The Masked Cinema 2022 - Seriously Red

It's back to the cinema, the local cinema to be clear. Seriously Red is star studded, Dolly Parton loving romantic comedy film directed by Gracie Otto.

Red or Raelene is played by Krew Boylan, like most people of an age, she is at a crossroads in her life. A vivacious and hilarious redhaired woman grappling with high expectations and low self-esteem, she pours herself a cup of ambition and trades her 9-to-5 career in real estate for a life under the spotlight as a Dolly Parton impersonator.

After misreading her work party's dress code, Red tumbles outta bed into a new world of tribute artists and impersonators in her wild and messy journey that includes romancing a Kenny Rogers impersonator.

Red has to lose herself in order to find herself. There are some nice moments in this cute, fun filled film. The laughs are a little few and far between, however when they got it right, they got it so right.

Daniel Webber joins Boylan as Kenny/Kenny Rogers while Rose Byrne plays and Elvis while her husband is the impersonator manager Wilson. Bobby Cannavale does join a wild, large, diverse cast. Celeste Barber is the mix alongside handsome Todd Lasance, Jean Kittson is Red's mum, Viv with her later in life boyfriend played by Wayne Blair.

We also get some smaller roles by Dustin Clare as George Michael, Blair McDonough as Tom, Dannii Minogue as herself and I have a funny feeling Trevor Ashley also makes an appearance.

I wanted to really love this. Like Sissy. However it felt like something was missing. I enjoyed the high moments of the film, some of the cringe, however Jean Kittson was not just annoying as Red's mum but sometimes just plain mean.

Like Sissy, I will be kind, this is a 3 star film at best.

Next up I am desperate to see The Menu. Plus so much TV ending or heading to a break this week. Get ready for plenty of TV posts!
