Album of the Year Nomination #5 - CALVIN HARRIS - 18 Months

It's no surprise that it's been a BIG year for dance music, it's been a big year
for collaborations and when the two meet you get David Guetta's Nothing but the Beat 2.0. Jokes!

The fifth and possible final album of the year nomination for 2012 goes to Scottish super producer Calvin Harris. He has had a dream run in 2012 and late 2011. His album when I listened to it in full kinda sounded like a best of Calvin Harris of the last few years. It started with "Bounce" mid last year and it not only acted as a solid first single but a kick start to the amazing revamp of Kelis.

Then he hammered it home with "Feels so Close", a tune so awesome that it stuck around for months, both songs made my amazing end of year 101 last year @ 4 & 9. The third single proved that Ne-Yo can sing and sing the hell out of "Let's Go", it was a big house number with a crazy big chorus that brings the roof down. Example got in on the act for single number four and then the dream team made single number five a number one smash in 2012 with Florence Welch smashing "Sweet Nothing" out of the ball park.

Then after five monster smashes the album dropped and with this Ellie Goulding (BF to Skrillex) track "Need Your Love" surfaced (also featured on her disc), this and the Tinie Tempah track attracted chart attention too.
Ayah Marar, Dizzee Rascal, Nicky Romero & the Rihanna featured "We Found Love" all also feature on this awesome party mix CD.

There is no filler it is all serious dance floor filler. This is by far Calvin Harris's best album to date. This will really put him on the map and maybe knock David Guetta off the king of collab throne for a while.

Calvin Harris joins Frank Ocean, Missy Higgins, the Hilltop Hoods & The xx in the race for my album of the year. Who will win, find out on Boxing Day AM.

Peace Out!
