Summer Streamin' 25 - Extraordinary - Seasons One - Two/Series Finale

Extraordinary is a British superhero comedy television series created by Emma Moran. This was recommended to me by a friend at the gym, so I actually jumped in fairly quickly to get on this.

Sadly I stumbled on this series got a little sluggish in the second season. By then, I put this aside for fellow English series Big Boys, then Aussie series Optics.

However the first season (which I am totally late to the party for) originally started streaming in January 2023.

Both seasons stream on Disney+, as part of their Star programming banner.

Extraordinary received generally positive reviews, and was renewed for a second season on 23 January 2023, ahead of the series premiere. Season 2 landed in March 2024.

So I am only a year behind the series concluding. Extraordinary ended up being cancelled after the second season. Which only kinda felt fair. Superhero shows (look up The Franchise) have struggled a little more with superhero/Marvel/DC fatigue. Following years of Avengers, Batmans and then the Marvel TV invasion.

So what is Extraordinary all about? Well different to other superhero affairs, it leans largely into the comedy side, whilst everyone in the world develops a superpower at the age of 18, and the show follows Jen, who, six years after turning 18, still hasn't discovered her superpower.

So if you missed this, like me, watch out spoilers ahead.

The series ends with an episode titled, Well, Goodbye Forever, which really sounds like they knew the end was there and then with two season.

Kash premieres his musical, "The Vigilante". Jen's therapist tells her that to acquire her special power, she'll have to stop talking to her Dad.

A tearful Jen has one last conversation with him and bids him goodbye. At the wrap party, Jen tries to discover her new power, but fails.

Later, her mother asks Jen to drop off a microwave into the Void. She is about to do that, but Kash mistakenly knocks Jen into the Void with the microwave door, and is unable to summon her back.

Jen ends up in a seemingly normal place which she seems to recognise, but is a cliffhanger for the audience.

Yes it does end with a cliffhanger. But does anyone care? This wasn't bad. It just could have been a one and done. Sadly after Big Boys and Optics, this just wasn't the funniest thing out there. Maybe if we were so over done with superhero's this might not have been such a slog. Well the second season, the first has some fun one liners. And again it streams now on, Disney+.
