Scream (well maybe, Scream 5) has just landed at the cinema. Also marking my return to the cinema following a round of the Rona.
Though billed as a relaunch of the film series, the film is a direct sequel to Scream 4. Which believe it or not came out all the way back in 2011.
This is the first in the Scream film not to be directed by Wes Craven, following his passing.
The film is dedicated to Craven at the beginning of the closing credits.
Scream stars Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, and Jack Quaid, alongside Marley Shelton, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and of course, Neve Campbell.
Scream has received positive reviews from critics, grossing over $30 million, becoming the second-highest grossing film of 2022.
Critics praised the film as honoring Craven's legacy and remaining a meta commentary on horror films, with some calling it the best of the Scream sequels.
The storyline was wild, the finale was huge plus there were a few little surprises along the way.
I really enjoyed this edition of Scream (well the second half more). As Scream 4 was fresh in my head watching it on Stan the night before. Oh isolation, so much time to even rewatch subpar sequels.
No spoilers here. If you liked any of the previous Scream films, you will like this one. FOR SURE.
Maybe the horror film of 2022? Maybe, 3.5 Stars.
