Post Strike Cinema 24' - Twisters

Twisters is my latest visit to the cinema in 2024. Like the previous post, this is not a fresh idea, however a new take on an old hit.

Weather disaster films in this day and age, have a lot more weight than when the 1996 film Twister landed on the big screen.

On the weekly we see, floods, fires, cyclones depending on what season we are in.

Acting as standalone sequel to the 1996 film Twister, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, and Sasha Lane all star in the Oklahoma based sequel.

So far the film has received positive reviews from critics. Including me. Like A Quiet Place: Day One, I was pleasantly surprised.

Also you must see this on the big screen. The Twisters and effects are insane.

Haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado, Kate Cooper (Edgar-Jones) gets lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (the handsome Anthony Ramos), to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. She soon crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Anyone but You's Glen Powell), a charming but reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures.

As storm season intensifies, Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves in a fight for their lives as multiple systems converge over central Oklahoma.

Look on paper this sounds like a rip off of the 1996 original. Yes it borrows the name and environmental theme, however with bringing in YouTube channel/influencers, current climate/weather uncertainty, this was worthy of a remaking.

The two hours also flies by like a cow in the Twister like the OG film.

3.5 Stars.
