Summer Streamin' 25 - Bookie - Seasons One - Two

Bookie has just concluded its second season. I binged season one about the veteran bookie must fight to survive the legalisation of sports gambling, increasingly unstable clients, and fast-paced life in Los Angeles. Then watched season two week to week along with Max's (HBO) fellow comedy The Sex Lives of College Girls, which in turn concluded last week.

Created by Chuck Lorre & Nick Bakay, while starring Sebastian Maniscalco, Omar Dorsey, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito, Jorge Garcia, and Maxim Swinton. While Arnetia Walker as Grandma Marion is 100% the MVP in this sitcom/

The first season landed on Max back in November, 2023, which I slept on.

Last January, the series was renewed for a second season which premiered on late last year. After watching the two seasons back to back, I did tire a little towards the end.

Whilst Grandma Marion was a 100% highlight in the series, by the end of the very random (and short) season two finale, it felt like there was little left for this show to say.

That said, the easy breezy last few episodes barely even clocked in at 20 minutes.

So this was a total easy watch. Season one was better, so maybe just smashing all 16 episodes out back-to-back would have been better.

Bookie and The Sex Lives of College Girls have both not been renewed yet. So hopefully we will receive news on each soon. The later had a real series finale feel about it though. Three seasons in the current TV climate is a real achievement anyway.

Speaking of the ABC has gone HAM releasing all six episodes of their new sitcom (and last for 2025, scripted that is) Optics this week. And damn it's good! Also The Newsreader concludes its run this weekend!

ABC iView is 100% the place to be for free scripted Aussie content in 2025. With the release of Foxtel/Binge hit, Love Me also landing.
