Public Holiday Fest Streaming 26' - SkyMed - Season Four

SkyMed gets a near complete facelift/reboot. The majority of the cast have moved on, leaving Chief Nurse Hayley & Chief Pilot Wheezer navigate new personalities and fresh drama as SkyMed auditions rookie medics and pilots to join the flight crew.

The fourth (and in my opinion final) season of SkyMed landed late last month on Paramount+. No longer airing on Canadian network, CBC, SkyMed has gone streaming only.

In the season opener, it took me a little bit to get my head around the new characters, whilst head nurse Hayley and Lead Pilot Wheezer deal with the different characters, along with emerging conflicts. This season, there is an episode in a deserted mine, along with a tornado too.

There is a lot going on this season, however the show (like real jet fuel around the globe) feels like it is running outta gas.

The limited familiar faces, the season finale, that felt like a series finale. Like RFDS in Australia, there is only limited storylines that can be covered in this environment. That said, Canada does look exceptionally beautiful in this season. Which is just as well they are one three host nations for the FIFA world cup this year.

In the finale, with SkyMed's future in jeopardy, Wheezer is forced to face his anxieties, Stef gets back to work, Lexi and Maya struggle with their past demons, and Crystal and Hayley must decide what comes next.

Will a fifth season be given the green light by Paramount+? I am guessing no. They need to pay for Warner Brothers somehow. Plus Dutton's Raunch just got another season, the Taylor Sheridan content train, keeps steam rolling in, probably taking a lot of the Paramount+ budget.

Paramount+ sadly relies very heavily on one content creator. Any other series outside the Yellowstone/Sheridan universe seem a little less of a priority for the streamer.

Time will tell, this has been a cute, Canadian comfort series to binge watch. I did find though I could only take this season in much smaller doses than previous ones.
