Summer Slack Streaming - Swarm - Season One

Swarm is the latest project from Donald Glover. Following Dre (Dominique Fishback), a young woman whose obsession with a pop star takes a dark turn. Kind of based (maybe) on the mass fan bases of say Beyonce (with BeyoncĂ©’s fan base also known as the "Bey Hive") or Taylor Swift. With fans going to extreme lengths if anyone wrongs their favourite artist/idol.

Swarm landed mid March Amazon Prime Video, I completed it late last week. It was a damn easy watch, whilst also being my final in the Summer Slack Streaming series.

Receiving positive reviews from critics, who praised the screenplay, direction, cinematography, soundtrack, and balance between its bright, vivid aesthetic and its elements of psychological horror.

Fishback's performance in the series has received widespread acclaim, while the guest performances of Chloe Bailey and Billie Eilish have also received popular praise. Eilish actually needs more roles now. She was truly awesome! That episode Running Scared was wild. One of the best of the seven roughly half an hour rollercoaster ride episodes.

The series tells the story of Dre, a young woman who is obsessed with a pop star (whose oeuvre and aesthetic are very similar to that of American singer Beyoncé), with a fanbase known as The Swarm".

The show is a deep dark dive into Dre's life, her fandom, and how it takes her to dark, unexpected places.

There is full frontal nudity, a wild sex scene, violence and more violence, Swarm is darker than Atlanta, but a damn good watch. For me probably more enjoyable than the last season (I ranked it fairly low on my Spring Rated) of Atlanta.

Speaking of Summer Slack Streaming Rated lands tomorrow (as long as I get some time) so for a new list of TV's best releases, come on back. Also enjoy a feature or two on Matt Corby's new album. The feature all this week. See you then x
