Joy Ride is the second "sex" comedy in as many weeks. However this is leaps and bounds above No Hard Feelings.
This is Adele Lim feature directorial debut, starring Emily in Paris queen Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu, Sabrina Wu, Ronny Chieng, Meredith Hagner, David Denman, Annie Mumolo, Timothy Simons, and Daniel Dae Kim.
Joy Ride has received positive reviews from critics, who praised the lead performances, humor, and heart.
Also a plus for this film is two Aussie hunks in the basketball bus scenes, Alexander Hodge & Chris Pang .
This film has real heart, while remaining fairly horny too.
Lori Tan Chinn also stars as Nai Nai, Lolo's grandmother. It's not been that long since we farewelled (most likely for good) her on Awkwafina's series Nora from Queens.
This is maybe not ideal for a school holidays film, however it is a damn lot funnier than the recent Jennifer Lawerence film.
While it packs a punch with the comedy lines, the Ashley Park as Audrey Sullivan searching for her birth mother was actually really sweet, while being handled in a sensitive manner. In between dildo and vagina jokes this is an art.
Ronny Chieng has really done well from his stand up days. Good on you!
No spoilers here.Just expect to laugh, smile and see some damn fine men on the big screen.
4.5 Stars. A return to good cinema, praise be!
