Winter be Bingeing 26' - Furious - Season One

Furious is loosely inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow by Ronald Bass. 

The series sees the return of Shameless lady boss, Emmy Rossum as FBI agent Alice Black, alongside Lola Petticrew, Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, plus Jake Lacy. 

Streaming on Hulu/Disney+, this series only started streaming late July, concluding earlier this week. I originally thought this was a miniseries, however the other day Furious was renewed for a second season.

Furious follows FBI agent Alice Black on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer. Both walk their own paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur.

This was addictive viewing. With three episodes landing first, then five weeks of week-to-week episodes.

This was also extremely high quality, crime drama. Hulu has been doing well of late. With The Testaments, easily one of my shows of 2026, All's Fair, an instant camp classic, with Reasonable Doubt + Chad Powers returning soon for new seasons, Hulu's content on Disney+ makes for premium viewing.

This was dark, brutal and original. The storyline felt original. Rossum really did shine in this role as a flawed FBI agent.

The tension across the eight episodes was insane.

In the opening episode, of the three episode premiere, on Halloween in New York City, the mysterious Catherine murders wealthy Caleb Easton in his apartment, staging his death as a fentanyl overdose. 

Robbing Jinny Allen, Catherine assumes her identity to stay at a women's shelter. She manipulates shelter employee Becky to acquire a new ID, enabling Jinny to be hired by a catering company and seduce her next target, high-powered lawyer Oliver Charles. 

Meanwhile, low-level FBI agent Alice Black is called to Caleb's apartment by homicide detective Danny, her former NYPD partner. Deducing that Caleb was murdered, Alice arranges her own violent sexual encounter with a stranger. She links Caleb's murder to the similar death of sex trafficker Adrian Murado, and enlists the reluctant help of Nora, head of the FBI sex crimes unit. 

Caleb's neighbour remembers Catherine's tattoo, which Alice later spots in surveillance footage of a trafficked girl, Catherine, trying to escape Adrian fourteen years earlier, confirming her suspicion that the two men were victims of the same killer.

This was a great little series. If you need something to watch as Spring hits more like summer, fire up Disney+ and hit Furious.
