Winter's Cumin' Streaming 24' - Station 19 - Season Seven/Series Finale

Wow, after a delay of a few weeks from the USA screening of Station 19 (spin off of Grey's Anatomy) finally Australia gets to see how the seventh and final season ends.

The strike shortened ten episode season, commenced mid-March. With only ten episodes this season, the entire main cast from the previous season returned except for Pat Healy.

Airing in the USA on ABC, this was only one of two series I watch on the network. I recently discovered Abbott Elementary, which I am hooked on. Once season three lands in Australia, June 26, I will publish my post on seasons one to three.

This is Shondaland's second last series on the alphabet network in the USA. As Shonda moves more to Netflix, with little series like Bridgerton.

Station 19 has always centred around the professional and personal lives of the firefighters of the fictional Station 19 of the Seattle Fire Department. We have had crossover stories/dramas/romances with parent series Grey's Anatomy, while tackling so many social issues. Particularly this final season, there were so many social issues covered off.

Not limited to drag queens (including Symone was cast as Mary Mint), LGBTIQ+ community members  who is in a parade celebrating same-sex marriage in Washington which was protested by a toxic far right male group. This included lead Maya DeLuca-Bishop's brother.

Former ABC star of Mistresses, Yunjin Kim joined the cast as Jeonghee "Jinny" Lee, the full-Korean sister of Natasha Ross, who knows what people should do with their lives.

While during the series finale, former series regular Okieriete Onaodowan made a cameo as Dean Miller, whilst Miguel Sandoval was asked to make an appearance, but he declined. SAVAGE!

Other social issues tackled in the final run were firefighting funding, affordable and accessible healthcare and migrants crossing the border.

Climate change is also explored via wildfires in the final two episodes. This has been most likely inspired by recent fires in the USA and Canada.

So what happens in the swan song, One Last Time. And no they did not play the Ariana Grande track throughout this episode!

At Grey Sloan, Ruiz is about to go into surgery. Warren returns to duty, and Carina follows him because the victim is pregnant. Carina delivers a baby in the field while Warren performs a controlled burn.

Meanwhile, a helicopter performs a water drop, and Maya is rescued. A fire tornado appears and kills Kate.

The firefighters are surrounded and deploy their fire shelters for safety. When they are safe, they notice that Andy is missing. They go for help and find that Andy had gone and returned with another crew to fight the fire. Once the fire is under control, Andy collapses.

At Grey Sloan, they learn she was dehydrated and had severe burns. Andy tells them she abandoned her shelter to find help so she could protect them.

Carina finds Maya and tells her that she is pregnant. Three months later, Warren tells Andy he is returning to surgical residency. Ruiz is undergoing rehab. Hughes leaves for D.C., and Travis joins her at the airport.

In the future, Maya is captain of Station 19 with Pru Miller-Warren as one of the firefighters. Chief Andy Herrera addresses them and tells them what it means to be part of this station.

It goes full circle. With Andy's dad the OG captain in the series, her promotion sees her look to her father's tribute in the last few minutes of the episode.

This has never been the most amazing series. Jay Hayden as Travis Montgomery was a lovely gay character on TV. Not only was he super good looking, but a layered gay character on TV. Not just a party boy or a twink.

The series always aimed to tackle social injustice. Sometimes it came off well, sometimes it felt like entertainment trying to preach too much. Overall though this has been a solid series for ABC. I am happy Disney+ have all episodes streaming now. Now just bring us the ABC acquired 9-1-1 please! I need to see this ASAP! It finished in the USA last month! Come on!

Only a few more weeks of Winter's Cumin' Streaming 24', what will the top RATED series be this quarter?

See you next time!
