Brilliant NEW Australian Drama

Secret City and The Heights have something in common, they both feature Marcus Graham. Yes true but they are both EXCELLENT.

The Heights and Secret City both offered viewers the option to binge all episodes on catch up platforms OR watch week to week. Unfortunately this gives a false indication when you look at overnight ratings to gauge the shows popularity but at least the platform reporting is maybe/well 100% more accurate than ratings.

Secret City started back in 2016 and had a long absence on our screens, however in 2019 it's back with another six episode season. The Heights on the other hand is a new series featured on the ABC and looks at Neighbours and Home and Away and says, you can have gay weddings and the occasional diverse character, but we are going to tick EVERY box.

A Vietnamese gay prac teacher, a tradie from Iran, a single mother with a child with a disability, a couple of main and semi regular aboriginal characters and that is just for starters.

However the show is real, raw and so well done. Having a half an hour well done Australian 30 minute drama (not comedy like Upper Middle Bogan, Rosehaven, Utopia etc) serves the ABC well.

Mystery Road was a huge hit last year, The Cry received a bit of attention this year and no doubt Glitch and Harrow will be popular upon their return later.

Foxtel on the other-hand houses the exceptional Wentworth and apparently has a load more drama on the way.

Picnic at Hanging Rock sort of did not live up to it's expectations but I have hope for it's next drama venture.

Wentworth I have high hopes for the next season after season six was a little disappointing.

So for some pre Winter viewing on the binge, The Heights on ABC iView and over on Foxtel Go/Now or whatever is streaming all six episodes of Secret City now.
