Cinema Slut #2019 - Captain Marvel

Following IWD yesterday, Captain Marvel could not choose a better date for release. Brie Larson is an outstanding actress, this was clear after the 2015 film Room, so how does she go as the first female lead in a Marvel film?

Well Wonder Woman broke the glass ceiling a few years back and did an amazing job, Wonder Woman was hella good, Captain Marvel starts slow and weird but with a 90's throwback and sensational cast it gets better and better as the film goes on.

I really enjoyed this film, Brie Larson as the Captain, Samuel L Jackson as Fury, Jude Law, Annette Bening, Lashana Lynch and Aussie Ben Mendelsohn round off a near perfect cast.

The 90's music and pop culture references, the NIN t-shirt won for a large chunk of the film by Larson and again the music, TLC, Hole, No Doubt, Garbage and more.

The action sequences are fierce, the film once it gets past it's erratic start goes into hyperdrive.

I was completely engrossed in this Marvel picture, much like Black Panther it felt like they were going somewhere new. Long gone are the simple Thor, Iron Man films, there is depth, there is real life political issues explored and the moral Marvel compass is in full swing.

What better day to wrap up IWD with a film like this. If anyone thought this would fail, think again Captain Marvel was a super fun ride that celebrated a great decade, the 90's.

No spoiler alerts about the plot but this did excite me for the upcoming season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Fun stuff, 4 Stars.
