Bjork & Sweeny Todd Reviews

What a week, what a summer of music and movies!

Sydney Festival and this years Big Day Out brought out one of the most exciting and talented artists the world has ever seen, Bjork.

This show had the perfect location at Sydney's Opera House Forecourt. It was an amazing rather cool, totally clear evening with a beautiful full moon smiling down on the 6,000 people who gathered to see an amazing performance from the young Bjork.

She put on a sensational show with all the hits "Army of Me", "Hunter", "Earth Intruders" and the BIG finale with her new single "Declare Independence" including fire works! The simply best show I have ever seen, for costumes, energy levels, light show, fire works and sound. The Atmosphere was amazing and so was the show.

Sweeny Todd (Johnny Deep) - A Stephen Sondheim musical created into a film. I usually hate musical movies (remember "Dream On Girls) but this was actually very well done and Johnny Deep was great! The movie has an interesting support casting including Sacha Baron Cohen AKA Borat! Quiet a good film and visually thanks to Tim Burton it's just bliss.

Film Freak Summer Holidays edition:

Film Reviews:

American Gangster (Rusty & Denzel) - Amazing, great story, great acting (even old Rusty), simply a great 3 hour film and there ain't many of them!

Cloverfield (no one, that's one of the main problems!) - I have to look to Public Enemy for the famous line - DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! An absolute pile of shit. With the $12.50 or whatever a film costs these days I could have brought three copies of the Natalie Gucci or whatever that Idol chick from last year's name is, can anyone remember?

Juno (Ellen Page) - Already in my top ten of 2008 (with PS I Love You and American Gangster). Amazing script, great acting and some really funny bits. I love it, you nearly want to see it again! Ellen Page is definitely one to look out for in the future!

What's hot in 2008 Music:S

ia - Some People Have Real Problems CD particularly "The Girl You Lost to Cocaine".
Amazing third studio album from former Adelaide singer songwriter. Great return to form especially if you loved her first disc "Healing is difficult", this is also the same girl who brought us "Breathe Me" the beautiful final track used on the final Six Feet Under episode.

Shake Ur Limbs

G'Day G'day - Second installment for 2008 begins here:

Film Reviews:

I am Legend (Will Smith) - Alright film, with Will Smith getting more buff & more totally hot as he ages!

PS I Love U (Hilary Swank) - Such a beautiful film, event though the year is young, I will have to have this in my top 10 for 2008! Beautiful performances for Hilary Swank and great support from Kathy Bates and Lisa Kudrow.

Atonement (James McAvoy) - SHIT, SHIT and more SHIT! This had the most strange plot ever, I don't know anyone who could follow this shocking period drama, it basically gave me the rags after I watched it!

Theatre Review:Billy Elliot (New Years Day 7:30pm show) - New Years Day, what a recovery! And Billy Elliot was definitely not the way to do it. I had already seen this in it's previews and thought it was okay, now a second time around I know I was right the first time. With songs that are way too long, too much drab dialogue and not enough dancing this musical is definitely one for the easy pleased.

Kev Carmody Sydney Festival "Cannot Buy My Soul" - Well the Sydney festival is here and I'm not going to Bjork :(, however I did get tickets to the most amazing night of young Australian talent performing the songs of Kev Carmody at Sydney's delightful State Theatre. Dan Kelly was beautiful and showed he is an up and coming star with many talents under his belt, Sara Storer absolutely amazed me, she was wonderful her rendition of "Moonstruck" was simply stunning! Tex Perkins, Claire Bowditch, Dan Sultan, The Herd and The Drones also performed amazing tributes to Mr Carmody. The highlight however was a tie between the lovely Glenn Richards (Augie March), Paul Kelly & Missy Higgins number "Drowning Woman", I had goose bumps during the performance it was so amazing. The other highlight was the finale, the group "From Little Things Big Things Grow", I nearly had tears it was so wonderful. Definitely worth checking the CD "Cannot Buy My Soul" out!

What's hot in 2008 Music:
Kate Nash - Made of Bricks CD
Bjork's new remix of Earth Intruders
TRACKS from::
Mattafix - Shake my Limbs
Dannii/Jason Nevins - Touch me Like That
Urthboy - Over Before it Begun
Tegan & Sara - Hop a Plane

Happy 2008

Happy 2008!

Koniwichwa Bitches for 2008!

Well another year another shit load of amazing things coming our way including hotly anticipated CD releases from the likes of Mariah Carey!

Now there have not been a lot of events to report upon besides Groove Armada at Bondi Beach and a few films so without further ado here is my no bullshit take on these events:

Alien Vs Predator 2 FILM - No real main stars, average plot, good special effects. VERDICT - Wither wait till DVD or tight arse Tuesday when there is nothing else worth seeing.

Scenic World, Katoomba - A very fun trip to the old Blue Mountains was made over the summer break and Scenic World was part of this junket. I loved it well set, however busy due to school holiday, bloody kids!

Groove Armada/Sneaky Sound System Bondi Beach NYE 2007 - Well my second year at Bondi, what an event, it is so well set up and organised, there was never a queue for the piss hole for us boys and the bar, well I never visited it due to too much drink before hand. The music, the DJ's before Sneaky were great and had the crowd pumped up for the home town party band of the year. Sneaky Sound System sang over remixed versions of all their songs which actually worked, however without Connie Mitchell (my favourite female performer of 2007) they are nothing. She is amazing and demands the crowd to get the flip up and dance! Their hits were received very well once the crowd recognised them, "Goodbye", "UFO" and "Pictures" all highlights. Let's just hope their new stuff (due for releases this year!!!) is any good. DJ team Funktrust were on next till Midnight. Well I do like these boys, they do a great Friday night dance slot on JJJ and play amazing sets wherever I see them. Groove Aramada headed on after the fireworks and really were quiet flat. Now maybe I am getting old but an electronic band plays great on a CD player but when they try this live with a band not just laptops, it seems to go pear shaped (i.e Basement Jaxx last NYE). All the songs sounded the same and it was a nice way to say farewell to Bondi for another year.

A few quick CD reviews:MOS Annual 2008 - Terrible first disc by John Course, excellent second disc mixed by Goodwill.
