Wentworth Season 8.

Wentworth is back! Tuesday night's are Teal Tuesdays once more!

Titled Wentworth: Redemption, a lot of your old favourite cast are out, with a few new ones joining the prison in Victoria.

Blockbuster casting continues with Ann Reynolds (Jane Hall), Lou Kelly (Kate Box), Judy Bryant (Vivienne Awosoga), Reb Keane (Zoe Terakes), and Sheila Bausch (Marta Dusseldorp) joining the show.

With a few spoilers, yes the Freak aka Joan Ferguson (now living under the pseudonym Kath Maxwell) so who was in the coffin?

Out of Marie or Ruby who will die?

Will Allie be the top dog for the season or will returning top dog Lou Kelly (Kate Box) return to the crown?

With Vera returning to the prison following the birth of Grace, can she keep Will employed with new boss Ann Reynolds (Jane Hall) wanting him out? Please keep Will he only gets hotter with age.

The season will be ten episodes set to conclude on 29 September 2020. Usually late September all the big USA shows would return.... Not this year though at this stage. Wentworth is also paused on filming season nine too.

Season nine will be the end game too, so expect one hell of a cliffhanger late September followed by a massive wrap up final season (fingers crossed) in 2021.

The show has a huge following and I for one was in love with episode one of season eight. The robbery/chase Lou Kelly (Kate Box)/Reb Keane (Zoe Terakes) introduction was an opening start to the season. It also felt like a bit of a reboot with a pile of new characters to get to know.

We do however need to find out how the Freak did it. Please let us know early in the season so the show remains believable and not too quick to jump the shark.

This could be the Australian drama of 2020! Mark my words, Tuesday nights put the phone on silent, stop working from home and get into some top notch drama!

Best Movies of 2020 - Whys is there 2 Parts in 2020?

2019 I saw loads of films, I could easily complete my annual list. 2020 however with the cinemas closed from late March until recently, studios also removing a large number of films from release it's a tough break in 2020 to be in the movie business.

Hence why yesterday after my rather lame return to the cinema for FOLLOW ME and my sad final experience before the cinemas closed their doors with BLOODSHOT, I decided to spilt 2020 up into two parts, BC (Before COVID) and later an AC (After COVID or 2nd long half of 2020).

I have to say though I am excited to make my way back to the cinema this weekend to take in the latest Russell Crowe film. Yes I am excited for a Russell Crowe film, how 2020 has changed me. Unhinged is the name of the film, it's out Thursday and it clocks it at just 90 minutes.

Stay tuned for more film reviews as the cinema slowly returns to some form of normal. Will we ever get Mulan or Black Widow at the cinemas? What about Tenet? Only time will tell.

I would love to give you a run down of other films I was excited for, however release dates are a forever moving best in 2020.

Also look out for my review of new Wentworth. YASS Teal Tuesday's are back crew!

(Mini) Monday Spotlight: Alfie Templeman

This week the (Mini) Monday Spotlight shines the spotlight on 17 year old, Alfie Templeman. Maybe the youngest (Mini) Monday Spotlight yet!

Alfie Templeman released his latest EP Titled Happiness In Liquid Form on Friday with the title tune becoming an instant hit on Triple J.

Following on from a trio of very well reviewed EPs in 2018’s Like An Animal, and 2019’s Sunday Morning Cereal and Don’t Go Wasting Time. Alfie Templeman is so fresh he doesn't even have a Wikipedia page yet!

Templeman has amassed millions of streams thanks to his endearing, pop-leaning indie tracks like Happiness In Liquid Form.

Fans of Benee, Rex Orange County are going to be right at home with young Templemann. He looks a million bucks and sounds two million bucks, so get amongst it and discover your favourite new talent right here, right now.

Apparently he also has loads more new music ready to go, so keep your ears out folks!

Box Office Flop or Blockbuster 2020? - Follow Me

So after a serious break from the cinema, Box Office Flop or Blockbuster 2020? is back! Let's resume with Follow Me.

I am thinking of renaming the second half of the year from Box Office Flop or Blockbuster 2020? to COVID-Cinema 2020. As so many movies are being withdrawn from release, it's going to be an interesting rest fo 2020 at the cinema.

So in Australia StudioCanal has released Follow Me, a gore porn-thriller from Escape Room (2017) director Will Wernick.

Ronen Rubinstein (who plays sexy as Tyler Kennedy "TK" Strand in 9-1-1: Lone Star) is the best part of this rather predictable and lame return to the cinema for little old me.

Here is the basic storyline -

Keegan Allen (Pretty Little Liars) plays social media star Cole, who travels with buddies to Moscow to film new content for his hit VLOG. He and his friends are convinced to join a game that’s promising mystery and thrills, but it’s far more deadly than any of them could have imagined. As the line between real life and social media is blurred, the group must fight to escape, and survive.

I was fairly disappointed for my return to the cinema and have to rate this as a flop. Like my last film I saw before the movies went to sleep for a number of months, this is at best a two star film.

P Valley

Two episodes in and Stan's latest drama (from US cable crew STARZ) is P Valley. Originally titled Pussy Valley based on the play by Katori Hall. Revolving around the lives of strip club dancers working down in the Mississippi Delta, aka Dirty Delta.

It's raunchy, it's raw and the music is dope!

Take a look below.

Honestly with limited new content coming our way with months since anything was filmed, P Valley is a breath of fresh air. Well done to Stan for getting this on Australian TV.

With a fairly large cast and rave reviews this thus, P Valley can be your new winter favourite.

I 100% say give this one a go.

More TV reviews coming soon...

MUST watch VIEWING

Avoid sound bites, opinions, watch this whole interview in full. The man is clearly insane whilst Chris Wallace does an extraordinary job holding this "world leader" to account.

His answers are terrifying, delusional not to mention quotes like "two beautiful world wars" fuck me.

He like Kanye has completely lost the plot. America in 2020 is all sorts of fucked up. Will the once "great" power ever be "great" again?

Without universal health care, liveable minimum wages and gun control, who in the wide world of fuck would want to live in Trumps America?

(Mini) Monday Spotlight: Love Fame Tragedy

Matthew Murphy is Love Fame Tragedy. Murph as he is known by some is also the lead singer of The Wombats. Whilst The Wombats have given us four big pop rock albums, this is the debut for his side project of Love Fame Tragedy.

(Mini) Monday Spotlight is all about giving you a look at the newest acts, so whilst The Wombats are not new, Love Fame Tragedy 100% is.

Teaming up on the album with Aussie Jack River on one of the early singles, Wherever I Go, I Want To Leave was released earlier this month.

So let's stream the new record whilst also taking a look at a Wombats classic.

So many more new acts to get your ears around on upcoming (Mini) Monday Spotlights so make sure each and every Monday you pop back.

Bye for now.

Australia, Not so All Over: Goulburn x Canberra

Oh border closures, travel restrictions and COVID-19. I was meant to be in the Maldives for my 38th birthday, instead I drove to Canberra. LOL

If only LOL could make all this random life on hold stuff fun.

2020 has been a year right? Everyone says that right but has it?

For me 2020 has been weird, I am still working full time, I am still volunteering one Friday a month whilst financially I'm actually good. Not to mention my tax return for 2019-2020 is done and dusted, submitted ready for me to receive my sweet, sweet refund.

So other than not being able to travel is my 2020 (moving forward) that bad? Well no. The gyms are reopened (bookings are annoying but I get it), food places are allowing us to eat in again and the movies is sort of back.

Why sort of? Well the content isn't really there. Yes there are piles of films done and dusted and ready for you to see, however the studios are holding them back to get more bums on seats when all this is over. But will it be over?

Will people ever return to the cinema for every release? Has nothing been learnt since March, 2020? Streaming platforms are growing daily, with new subscribers (paid and free trial folks) each day. With commercial TV in ruins even they have had to step up their game with their streaming services. Whilst poor old Ten All Access (in the USA CBS All Access) has now got some of its only exclusive content going to SBS On Demand. Why Women Kill the amazing Marc Cherry series for a little while back.

So with gyms, cinemas and cafes back to normal, my wages and working life the same, what is different? Well the physical distancing and peoples paranoia has gone through the roof, whilst some people are actually realising yes you do need to wash your hands.

Unlucky for Trump his election is around 100 days away and of course the USA with its horrid health system are FUCKED. Like literally fucked. The man is not only an orange clown, but his country is more divided than ever, race relations are on a knife edge and his own party are starting to question what have they done?

So Canberra is a nice destination to visit when people from NSW and Victoria are hardly welcome anywhere. Even New Zealand said you can fuck off with your Trans Tasman travel bubble. Well that takes NZ off the list for easy getaways.

Oh 2020, a lot can be said, not a lot done. At least this year I look to the positives.

1. I have spent so much extra time with my beautiful 85 year old father
2. I work with really amazing people and got into an industry which is truly an essential service
3. I have great friends and people around me
4. My local suburb in Sydney may be close to the CBD, but the people in Chippendale and surrounds have really bonded.

Tomorrow on a lighter more musical note, the (Mini) Monday Spotlight returns with Love Fame Tragedy. It's a side project for Wombats frontman Matthew Murphy. So come back then.

Cheers.

Little Voice Apple TV+ Series

I have watched a couple of Apple TV+ shows now, The Morning Show with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, the Defending Jacob mini series and Servant. All three have been decent, The Morning Show was the obvious highlight, so I am interest to see how Little Voice turns out.

Starring former Star lead, Brittany O'Grady as Bess Alice King in yet another musical lead role. Star was sadly cut short by FOX in the US leaving the show with a massive cliffhanger unanswered. So it's good seeing Brittany O'Grady on the small screen again.

Producers include J. J. Abrams and singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, so we are definitely in good hands.

Three episodes landed last Friday, now for the next seven weeks another episode will land on Apple TV+. Episode one I Don't Know was an easy thirty minute watch with a fair amount of promise.

Looking forward to catching episode two maybe over the weekend.

Countdown: Wentworth (Season 8)

In less than 2 weeks Australia's best drama on Foxtel returns, Wentworth for Season 8. Also known as Wentworth: Redemption this year. The ten episode 8th season commences on Tuesday 28 July.

Now with a content void to fill the series filmed late last year, is a great winter filler. Whilst the three commercial networks gear up for the next round of reality shit, Foxtel is flexin' hard with its most popular original drama to date.

Not to mention the Freak aka Joan Ferguson rejoins the fold, whilst other newcomers include Ann Reynolds (Jane Hall), Lou Kelly (Kate Box), Judy Bryant (Vivienne Awosoga), Reb Keane (Zoe Terakes), and Sheila Bausch (Marta Dusseldorp).

This season promises big things and with only two weeks to wait, I am beside myself. Foxtel have been teasing a number of promos recently, so take a look for yourself.

I can't wait for this. With Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story concluding today/tonight (USA times), Blindspot approaching its final ever episode and The 100 + Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also about to wrap their respective swan songs.

2020 will have an interesting rest of the year for TV. With little production happening right now, there is going to be a shortage soon.

Thank god I have two seasons of Hanna to catch up on. Not to mention I am already hooked on new STAN title P Valley.

Oh well that's it for today, back again real soon...

#COVID-19-BINGE-FEST - Ozark (Season 3)

What a wild ride Ozark season 3 was! And man was it easy viewing. Following an 18 month hiatus from our Netflix viewing carousel,  Ozark season 3 returned late March 2020.

Before COVID production shutdowns etc, I was knee deep in all my USA seasons which I farewelled months ago now. For how long who knows.

So Ozark was always on the back burner. Recently I have smashed so many series and been distracted by Netflix own hype around shows like Tiger King, Money Heist, 13 Reasons Why and more.

So it was great to finally catch up with the third series of the hit Laura Linney series. It was good timing actually as a fourth season has now been announced, which will in fact be it's final. However in true Netflix style it will be spilt over two parts.

So Netflix have used COVID to clean house, with Ozark ending in the near distant future, 13 Reasons Why already ending, Sabrina set to close with its fourth part later this year and who knows what announcements lie around the corner.

So Ozark is the third season any good? OK it is amazing, I think amongst all my other shows (week to week) I smashed this out in a week. I have never loved Jason Bateman but Laura Linney, AMAZING!

And Julia Garner as Ruth Langmore, steals every scene she is in!

Joining season three and Ruth is the fantastic Tom Pelphrey as Ben Davis. Like Ruth he also steals a lot of the scenes he is featured in.

The show is outstanding, it gets more and more crazy as every episode passes whilst Ruth's swearing is off the rails this season.

A definite must watch during the recent spike of drama in the news. Maybe I should keep the #COVID-19-BINGE-FEST feature open a little longer. That list is growing more and more each day!

To break it up though, the (Mini) Monday Spotlight returns tomorrow with Kiwi indie darlings, The Beths. Last week I feature the amazing 박혜진 Park Hye Jin, check it out NOW!

Until then, ciao.

#COVID-19-BINGE-FEST - Toy Boy

#COVID-19-BINGE-FEST continues to grow with Toy Boy.

My latest Spanish drama is Toy Boy, on Wikipedia the opening line of the plot really sets the show up for you. Hugo Beltrán (Jesús Mosquera) is a young, handsome and carefree stripper.

However this carefree (100% handsome) stripper seems to be surrounded by murder and lies. María Pedraza (Elite, Money Heist) also stars as Triana Marín, his second love interest after Cristina Castaño as Macarena Medina de Solís.

The show is at times bat shit crazy but the handsome cast make it a lot of fun.

All the strippers are good looking in their own way, it reminded me a bit of Magic Mike if old mate Channing Tatum was Spanish. Unfortunately for Toy boy, Channing is a much better dancer.

Some of the worst parts of Toy Boy are the choreography.

The plot is bat shit crazy and the weird relationship between Jairo and Andrea is just damn weird and long winded.

Toy Boy could have done better by some fancy editing with episodes all clocking in at over one hour! So yeah it's over 13 (maybe 15) hours of stripping, murder and deception.

Despite this Toy Boy is fun and mostly easy (on the eye) viewing.

It's on Netflix now.

DC's Stargirl Renewed...

DC's Stargirl Renewed for Season 2, Which Will Be Exclusive to The CW. Let's hope the production values don't go out the window like another female super hero series. I'm looking at you Supergirl. Season one, CBS, season two onwards, The CW, production, writing went to hell in a hand basket.

Unlike poor Katy Keene which got the flick (which was no surprise) Stargirl has been a runaway success.

The CW has a super stacked 2020-2021 line up with most favourite shows returning in January (maybe) 2021. Here are just the shows I watch...

All American
Batwoman (Less Ruby Rose)
Black Lightning
DC's Stargirl
Dynasty (switching to Summer 2021 AKA June/July)
The Flash
Legends of Tomorrow (switching to Summer 2021 AKA June/July)
Riverdale
Supergirl (switching to Summer 2021 AKA June/July - Supergirl is having a baby!)

With a number of the shows coming back June/July it leaves a rather bare Oct-Dec lineup and a fairly different Jan-May lineup.

Dynasty has always struggled but been a hit on Netflix (internationally) whilst Legends of Tomorrow was never as popular as other DC shows and Supergirl has been on a downward spiral for a while now.

I recently caught both seasons as a binge of All American which joining Dynasty is the only non comic book show I watch on The CW. Another new comic book/DC story is on the way with Superman & Lois coming in 2021.

In a few short weeks The CW will also farewell The 100 which is tipped to have a prequel season coming.... one day. Also an Arrow spin off was on the cards, however as The CW is fairly stacked these may have to wait till COVID passes.

Let's hope filming starts again soon or it will be a very dull 2020-2021 TV season.

#COVID-19-BINGE-FEST - The Last Dance (miniseries)

Wow the #COVID-19-BINGE-FEST list is getting SO long!

The Last Dance (miniseries) is my latest binge. Like I say often, this is an easy watch, back to a much simpler time, the late 90's.

In the 90's I was lucky to go to a couple of NBA games myself. An Orlando Magic game with Shaq and my favourite team the Seattle Supersonics with the legendary Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton.

There is nothing like an NBA game, the atmosphere, the high level skill factor, the fans, it's insane. I have done a few NBL games in Australia and it has nothing on those two NBA games I attended.

I like most school kids in the 90's loved basketball cards, was interested in the mainly USA dominated sport and even played at my local Terrigal courts.

The Last Dance is a compelling look at one of the greatest sports clubs ever. The Chicago Bulls had way better leads than most 2020 network dramas. Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Denis Rodman. Rodman alone is intriguing enough to watch this series.

I found this to be the easiest watch of all time. The show when it aired on ESPN in America, it tied with hit NBC series This is Us for the fifth most watched show the past USA TV season.

This is a must watch for sports fans. Ditch the dodgy NRL, this is what real champions look like.

(Mini) Monday Spotlight: 박혜진 Park Hye Jin

The (Mini) Monday Spotlight is back for another week in July. Like last week's Cassian profile, it's time to dance again with 박혜진 Park Hye Jin.

박혜진 Park Hye Jin has dropped off her latest EP, How can I. Featuring the killer single Like This with an awesome iso visual below, 박혜진 Park Hye Jin delivers another solid electronic release.

I discovered 박혜진 Park Hye Jin with her slow builder I Don't Care. I was instantly in love with her style. It builds and builds and then the drop!

It's impossible not to lose yourself in her hypnotic state of electronica. Ditching the usual K-Pop scene, the South Korean DJ’s latest release takes inspiration from her first travels across Europe, North America and Australia.

박혜진 Park Hye Jin played shows at venues such as Berlin’s Panorama Bar, Ibiza’s DC-10, along with festival appearances for Primavera, Dour and 88rising‘s Head in the Clouds.

Recently interviewed 박혜진 Park Hye Jin noted about the EP’s release and time it took to release “[W]ho knows if I might die tomorrow, but at least if that happens, I’ll die really happy,”

So discover your next favourite artist today, it's the (Mini) Monday Spotlight. Come back next Monday as the stacked July lineup continues.

Katy Keene Cancelled...

Also my wish list of shows still pending decision to see if they are cancelled or NOT.

Love, Victor (Hulu) - come on guys this was such a sweet, beautiful series. Hulu have just renewed The Great, so hopefully they are going through their titles one by one now.

Billions (Showtime, STAN in Australia) - STAN needs this, it's like its biggest title. Not to mention this could be Showtime's biggest title right now with Homeland done and dusted.

Black Monday (Showtime, STAN in Australia) - With amazing one liners, this needs a third season. Short, sharp, witty 30 minute comedies are in need right about now.

The Chi  (Showtime, N/A in Australia) - The third season has started strong. With great characters and the beautiful Jacob Latimore. We need more Chicago on our screens.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (Showtime, STAN in Australia) - Not sure if this was a mini-series or not, but I feel we need more/never got answers to everything in season's one's bloodbath.

High Fidelity (Hulu/ABC iView in Australia) - Zoe Kravitz is on fire. Big Little Lies was a monster smash, so it's no surprise Kravitz has a cult following with her new series High Fidelity. Fans of the original movie may also want this back for a second run.

Toy Boy (Netflix) - Do I need a reason? Watch the trailer. Magic Mike x hot Spanish dudes.

Stargirl (DC) - This is BY FAR the best DC series airing in the USA on THE CW. Leaps and bounds production wise ahead of The Flash, Supergirl, etc etc... Stargirl is actually a refreshing superhero series.

And lastly speaking of The CW, one of it's only cancellations is Katy Keene. Read all about the cancellation and see a video from lead Lucy Hale, HERE.

Happy mid winter weekend y'all.

May/June La Première - Yellowstone (Season Three)

The Paramount hit series Yellowstone is back for season three.

Launching late June to a very healthy crowd. Almost two million (live) more viewers than the season two opener.

Kevin Costner and his three kids are back. Yes it's all in the family at Yellowstone. Following a dramatic second season, the third season is shaping up to have more drama and deception than ever.

Already renewed for a fourth season (to hopefully air in 2021) the show has room to move with the security of a fourth season already in the bag.

The writing room would be home to have time to plan the Montana families next moves. Joining season three's cast Josh Holloway as Roarke Carter and Q'orianka Kilcher as Angela Blue Thunder.

Following Neal McDonough as Malcolm Beck and Michaela Conlin as Sarah Nguyen departures (no spoilers) there was some space on the roster.

I heard rumours the show was resting its third episode for a USA holiday weekend however some sites say it's on this weekend. Either way you can find it weekly Monday evenings on Stan. A good little win for Stan now that Penny Dreadful is finished and they didn't seem interested in screening the brilliant Showtime series The Chi.

#COVID-19-BINGE-FEST - Yellowstone (Season 1 + 2)

With season three commencing late last month, I decided to dive into the deep end and binge both seasons 1 + 2 of Yellowstone. So now I am ready for the current third season.

The Kevin Costner lead drama airs in Australia on local streaming service Stan. Already renewed for a fourth season the Western based in Montana, filmed in Utah (as well as parts of Montana) revolves around the Dutton family.

John, Kayce, Beth and Jamie are all very different, but damn interesting to watch. The series is gritty and an easy watch. I am now already up to date with the two episodes of the third season.

It is great to have another weekly show on my roster with Hightown, Black Monday both ending soon, whilst Billions is on a longer break.

The show is a ratings blockbuster for the Paramount Network. This seasons opener along with encore plays gained close to five million viewers.

If you want something different along with some beautiful mountains and foul language this could be for you. The Dutton family drama is going to be on our screens for a while to come I think.
