Film Freak 2014 - Need for Speed {2D}

Wow! It's like a poor man's Fast & Furious but still kind of fun. I have to say I am going really easy on films in this non award season as I have found both Need for Speed and previously reviewed 300 both extremely engaging.

Need for Speed lives on the screen after becoming a gamers household name for it's various computer game instalments. Let's take a look at the film below:

The movie has a random as cast (including one of the most random striptease moments in my cinema going past) including Michael Keaton as some complete random computer car nerd.

So Need for Speed is it all car races and rev heads? Yes and no, at the heart of this film it actually had a bit of a heart and I kind of in a weird way connected with the cast. I really loved Imogen Poots who I recently fell in love with in that recent Zac Efron sex romp Are We Officially Dating.

Look this film will not be on my end of year best list but it sure was fun, a little long but fun.

Need for Speed rates a speedy and swift 3 Stars. I know I am marking easy at present, but just you wait when those Golden Globe nominated films hit the screen again.

Good Night one plus all.

Film Freak 2014 - 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE

Surely there will be a sequel, cause this film like totally just ended? No resolution, no nothing, random but I can't say I was disappointed because since Spartacus has left us off the TV screens nothing quite so blood thirsty has come to our screens in the ancient times since the new 300 film.

It's hard to believe it's been 7 long years since all the abs appeared in 300 the original film and now they are back with Sullivan Stapleton clearly waxed to the max and Callan Mulvey and David Wehham also getting the Aussie factor up.

Eva Green also plays a delicious villain, take a look below:

I had so much fun watching this film, it was just such a great ride, non stop action, non stop sexy men and a sex scene which just had it all, and I didn't even see it in 3D.

300: Rise of an Empire, it's not going to be every one's cup of tea but it is slaying at the box office.

3 solid gold, fully shaved and waxed Adonis Stars.

Film Freak 2014 - Pompeii

Oh dear BLOG how I have missed you, over on my other BLOG Flashing off the Record, I have finally taken the plunge and announced the first Album of The Year nominated album, go check it out now.

Oh yes I love music and I have also been missing the cinema so last night was just so relaxing to race off to the Entertainment Quarter after work and with 5 other folk enjoy Pompeii (in 2D only) and really put my feet up and fall oh so deeply in love with Kit Harington, what a babe.

So it's like Spartacus, it's a gladiator number with a natural disaster and a sweet love story featuring the amazing Kit and Aussie girl Emily Browning. So let's get down to it, there is a lot going on in this film but the action scenes and the BIG volcano scene, WOW!

So this weekend if like me you need a rest and some chill time, this is totally for you, it's fun it's not too long and just to see Kit a little naked goes a long way. Bring on Game of Thrones season 4 I say.

Pompeii it was a welcome return to the cinema for me and I had a blast (no pun intended), I have to give this a solid and banging 3.5 Stars. Great stuff.

I heart KRISSY CHULA

So true, even if you have 1,000,000 Twitter followers, 1,000 friends on Facebook, could you call any of these people and share an issue with them? Have a coffee on Glebe Point Road with them? If not maybe you should stop worrying about social media and how many likes you have or how many people comment on "I just took a shit that looks like animal", I am happy with my 0 Friends on Facebook and 0 followers on Twitter (mainly as I don't have either of them), I am happy for my real friends, my family and people I know through my working life.

People be happy with what you have and not what you don't or what doesn't matter. This is a great video and Krissy I hear you sister, social media is out of control and people friends are people you can see and talk through problems with, share your success, not like your dull posts on your first world problems.

Album of the Year - 2014

We are three months into 2014, all your favourite TV shows are back, Easter is on the way (take 3 days off - get 10 days off straight) and music is coming out thick and fast, so it's only natural (like the Crowded House classic) I announce my first album of the year nomination. It's coming very soon over at Flashing off the Record.

So stay tuned and I think if you know me, you may very well know what album I am loving right now. I will give you a clue they have worked with a heap of famous people and music isn't their only game. Who is it? Group or Solo act? Find out super soon.

And Sydney what a lame storm before, well it's mid way through the weekend, hope it's going ace....

Film Freak 2014 - The Wind Rises

- Film released in Japan in 2013 (July 2013 - wow what a delay Australia!)

Yes delayed by over 6 months we finally get to see this interesting and very cute Japanese animation from Hayao Miyazaki.

Take a look at the trailer below:

I missed the start of the film but really I had no idea what was going on even when I was in the cinema so like totally whatever.

Look this was cute and weird all at once. It was a cartoon where characters smoked for like 90% of the film and all behaved in a strange manner from time to time.

Look if you have a spare two hours and this is showing near you maybe give it a go but I know I really want to see "300" or give the Aussie flick "Tracks" a go. It's that random post award shows time when their is very limited "decent" new films on the way. And this year is the year of the musicals with "Jersey Boys", "Annie" and "Into the Woods" all coming to a cinema near year before December 31.

So back to this film I could;t think of much to write so I give it 3 stars, it was visually pretty nice to look at.

Oh Lorde! How not to Interview Pop Stars...

You may have the number one (equal) Breakfast show in Sydney Kyle, but this is not cool:

It's actually pretty fucking weird, much like the movie I saw tonight, tune in tomorrow for a full review.

Night night xo

My Reaction - Future Crowds {Sydney} 2014

So I attended Future Music Festival on the weekend, what a day, to say the crowd was loose would be a monstrous understatement. When drugs and alcohol are in the spotlight weekly in this town and we say how out of control the city has become it's easy to see why, the police, the new last drinks laws mean nothing, Sydney is out of control.

After 4 hours at Future Music Festival I felt like I was on the set of the Walking Dead, teens with eyes either wide open and very small pupils or teens looking like they were there in body but god help them where their minds were at.

It's kind of sad to see when their is so much potential out there but just so little being used in a positive manner. It's a music festival and the majority of the crowd seemed more interested in when they could score their next drink or pill.

I almost saw a fight break out and I am sure it wasn't the only one with testosterone on show in a big way. I mean to say steroids and the effects of mind altering drugs weren't on display for all to see (including countless police who clearly had come to late to the party as everyone had dropped their goods) shirtless boys. Girls are also getting a bit wider, a mean exercise and weights seems so in for boys and muffin tops in for the ladies, it's weird. It's like men are spending too much time at the gym (or too much money on roids) and the ladies are spending too much time at Macca's.

Not being sexist their was some damn fine ladies on display but I mean after today I knew more than ever that I loved the male form.

This is not to say there was not some serious EDM/Dance music lovers on the Randwick Racecourse. I mean there were some serious fun festival heads but I truly believe drugs and alcohol have completely overtaken this city.

The police were totally present but in my mind I think maybe it's time instead of all hanging out at music festivals the cops might be better resourced finding the source of all these festival drugs. I am sure some big king pins were making some serious cash across this fine brown land and that makes me sad.

Australia it's great to get Happy with Pharrell but I would love it if we didn't need the mind altering substances that seem to and I have first hand experience at seeing these cause great issues down the line both mentally and physically.

Film Freak 2014 - 3 Days to Kill

Kevin Costner you dirty old dog, look at you in a 2014 action film, who would have thought it? He also re creates that famous Bodyguard carry scene less the late great Whitney.

So what's this film all about?

There are some big action sequences, so fun cat and mouse and some serious family shit going down right here on this here film.

3 Days to Kill has largely been panned but hey it's the $10 film of the week and I ain't gonna hate on that. Actually I want to say going forward Pharrell and the negative tone of Australian media and that darling leader of this nation has made me only want to be HAPPY on this here BLOG. So I am only pointing out the good things about films and society in general.

So in saying that this isn't the worlds best action film or even the best action film of 2014 but it's damn fine and being a French/Canadian co pro it's a really (and I mean really) nice look at Paris. It makes even me want to do a long haul flight across the pond to see what all the wee wee and bonjour is all about.

So in not really talking about the film much, but liking it, I can give it a solid and Costner branded 3 stars. 3 Days to Kill is playing minimum sessions not so get in early to avoid disappointment.

Film Freak 2014 - Non-Stop

Oh Liam Neeson, smile for me, at least once? Non-Stop it's the non stop new action/thriller which I just couldn't see before travelling across the pond to Bali. But here now is a smart and fun cinema experience lead by Neeson and the divine Julianne Moore. Moore is just so wonderful and excels at being a woman who can be classy whilst being in a very generic picture like Non-Stop.

And generic is not a bad thing cause I actually really liked this film. So if you want a bit of background, check this out:

What was generic though was the 2 upcoming super hero films, really? More? I must admit though I do like me some Captain America action.

Anyway back to Non-Stop and look if you want a fun, no thoughts required ride at your local cinema, then give this one a go. It also features Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o. Yes even in a small role she is 12 years of FAB in my eyes.

So get behind this little screen gem, 4 NON STOP Stars.

OMG PHARRELL is in the house in like 2 hours, check my music blog Flashing off the Record for my detailed account of Pharrell and Sydney's Future Music Festival 2014 xo

Selamat Malam Bali/Morning Sydney

So at the super stylish Garuda Indonesia lounge at the new Bali airport with loads of Aussie bogans, oii is it right if I flick the cricket on the telly, I can do it meself? Oh dear, why are we the new Americans of travel? Shoes off, bad tattoo's and Bintang singlets, oh so many Bingtang singlets.

Australia we really need to pull our socks up (that's if we stop wearing thongs, on flights and anywhere where it's probably better if shoes are on and present.

Yes I am one of those ABC types Tony Abbott feels is not on Australia's side, that's because I respect other cultures, think living in the Shire could possibly be like a life sentence in prison and also don't believe in religion. Well Buddhism is cool but Christians? Good for you but what is it your marketing? Preying on people who feel they need something in their lives and that is an eftpos machine handed around a preaching session, no thanks honey boo boo.

So bogan rant and Australia, come on rant done and dusted (at least for tonight) and onto saying how much I loved Bali, the kind staff at the St Regis and L hotels. Just divine and happy people, the people I saw, the smiles, the passion for being, just sublime.

Thanks to all the people who gave me a hair cut, did my mannies and peddies, massaged me raw with green tea oil, candled out my ear wax and to all the food folk, you rock and make Bali so lovely.

So that's it from Bali, more film reviews, rants and general fun coming soon. Until then good night Bali, morning Sydney, I've sorted of missed you. x

Last post from Room 101

So it's come time (so soon, I know) for the final day to come on this my first trip for 2014.

Bali has been swell and yesterday we had an ace cruise including snorkelling, banana boat rides and village tours. Really nice and full on day. Have not missed Australia once, however I did have to laugh when the chief butler at this fine establishment I am camped out said: "I used to call Australia home but that mother fucker in charge right now has no idea or heart". Couldn't have put it better myself.

With all the drama in Russian the Russians are sure out in force here, speedos, leopard print bikinis and zero modesty around the poor Balinese, one man in speedos belly was such a work of art, in the pool he made a new island.

Why are older Russian men fat as fuck and think speedos = ok?

Alright so other than our PM being a tool, seeing too much Russian belly and seeing too much sun this little piggy is off to the final breakfast buffet. Sad face xoxo

Selamat Siang

Good Afternoon/Evening (depending on time zone) dear readers:

Yes live here in Bali after a massive buffet lunch and man has sugar free February now become a distant memory. Sugar free remainder of March is looking good.

So we are off to Nusa Dua in a wee bit and off to trial the St Regis after loving Seminyak and all it has to offer. Man it has been nice having a driver, I could so get used to that.

Well quiet post before we pack our shit and move on. Hope anyone who attended Mardi Gras last night enjoyed themselves and had a drink for Mr Nile and his Christian democrats.

Until tomorrow from Nusa Dua, bye bye xoxo

Bali x Night

So it's like only 7:30pm over here in beautiful Bali whereas at home maradi gras Sydney would be in full swing (and I'm sure Fred Nile is beside himself) and March 2 is round the corner. Yes Summer is over so I have departed Sydney for some last minute Bali summertime.

Yes so Waterbom got a look in today (second time there and I love it), had an amazing pedicure and just had a traditional Balinese massage (less a happy ending - sorry Fred Nile).

Day three tomorrow of the holiday and already it's onto hotel two and destination two. Today I am bound for Nusa Dua from sunny Seminyak.

We will leae behind the lovely L Hotel and make room in our hearts for the St Regis.

Oh the luxury as I wait till the morning to collect my washing from the local laundry lady, all for an outrageous $1.50 AUD.

So here we re Bali take two and the end of Summer is now here. My music blog does mot rest whilst I'm away, I'll have the hottest 20 songs of Summer 13/14 tomorrow and Monday am this weeks biggest 20 tunes. Google Flashing off the Record.

Until then, selamat malam from Bali x
