Rowing x Plank Workout - Return to a Four Day Working Week....

After the long weekend wrapped I felt good I actually looked after my body by starting my 2 minutes on, 30 seconds off on the rower. I did three attempts at this (not great I known but I have been ill on and off for around 1 month) and then did 5KM's on the bike.

I mixed it up and wrapped things up with some planks and did a good 30 minute cxworks class.

Cxworks is a stellar core class where you work from you're shoulders down to your knees and man do you feel great afterwards. And besides my Boost Juice obsession I have been eating really well and since my partner is going vegetarian that is also being adopted into my diet.

Eating well really is all about getting into a routine and sticking to it. Like me ditching snacking, those cravings after a while just vanished after training the body and maybe by not being bored at work helps.

As we MOVE into May I will continue to post body/fitness tips so keep an eye HERE.

Until then, it's HUMP day!

That Movie Gay #2016

The Hunger Games poor cousin returns for the third and almost final film in the series, The Divergent Series: Allegiant.

Like it's rich cousin the second last film in the series felt hall baked due to the fact that it's only half of one book. I hate the way these series cash in on the final book and really draw out what could be a swift and clear conclusion.

This film reminds me of Australia's past with a stolen generation storyline, that and all the political undertones, it's almost setting up kids for the upcoming elections here an in the USA.

After Mother's Day it was great however to see a film which engaged me and interested me for the entire run time.

The cast is very good looking particularly the male cast which also helps, however the lack of action and battle scenes leaves you a little cold at the end and craving more action in this sci-fi action series.

Music is also a little absent on this release and Jeff Daniels plays a good bad dude after he has wrapped up on the Newsroom.

Theo James is extremely handsome and Miles Teller is getting more handsome as time goes on.

This is not a must see but fun on the big screen, I will pass this at 2.5 mrs action, less political undertones please.

That Movie Gay #2016 {Advance Screening of possibly the worst film of 2016}

For months I have been negative about the rapid release of superhero film after superhero film, now after seeing MOTHER'S DAY I realise superhero films are the shit, cause if this is the alternative, kill me now.

This takes me back to Aloha, it is that bad and of you watched all of the trailer you will realise that sitting through all 118 minutes you will wish you stayed at home and trimmed your pubes with a hedge trimmer.

Jennifer Aniston is actually getting worse as an actress, Julia Robert's wig needs to be burned ASAP and Kate Hudson where the fuck you been.

This movie is going to rival Batman V Superman as the critics have so much material one could really go to town, but I'm not, I saw this for free and really it should have been a direct to 7flix film.

Bad does not cut it, awful almost covers it and in the running for nearly every Razzy humanly possible, yep I'd pay that. Downright low grade, cliche filled garbage. Shame on you Open Road films, you gave us good movies in the past (Spotlight for example), this is not one of them.

Poor on every level, 0.5 Stars cause it's a long weekend, it's actually a nil rating film. Just Terrible!

SunYAY - One more day of the weekend!

The Sunday Afternoon Blues are not a thing this weekend, yes it's a time to remember for some but for many this long weekend could not come soon enough:

1. A League Semi Finals
2. More regular sporting rounds than you can poke a stick at
3. Beyonce's HBO Lemonade "thing"
4. More HBO: New seasons of Veep, Silicon Valley and the HBO giant Game of Thrones commence
5. New music galore from Flume (Wall Fuck, Say it {Feat. Tove Lo and the AlunaGeorge track "I Remember")
6. The world remembers Prince
7. USA election campaign continues, Australian election campaign continues to excite... NO ONE
8. News sites around the world struggle to mix Prince tributes, actual news and sports updates.

All this going on and I saw my first musical since the interval departure (along with former QLD premier Anna Bligh) at Anything Goes. Yes I sat through Ghost - the Musical yesterday and aside from Rob Mills understudy issues I enjoyed the musical in parts.

Some of the songs are forgettable and the choreography is down right horrid but all in all, it's the best thing I have seen at the Theatre Royal in a decade. That said the venue has been said to be "the venue where shows go to die a slow and painful death".

I caught up with a friend from boot camp who is equally one of the smartest and most interesting people I know. Not only this she writes a killer email.

I am almost up to date on all my shows and I have to say the Blacklist is easily the most improved returning show this season. Out doing The 100, The Flash, The Americans, American Horror Story by a long shot, the Blacklist was a hard series to watch throughout season 2. The show became predictable, way too formulaic and at times so violent for US network TV the envelope got pushed almost as much as the gory Hannibal.

I have never understood American TV, violence for days but sex, nudity and swearing - HELL NO

Weird.

Next I got a fitness program with my new lady at the gym, I like it and hope my MOVE THIS MAY campaign sees me complete it and I get down to 14% body fat. That is a publicly set goal.

I have completed two fitness goals this year already and in the coming weeks I will share some new ones with you lovely readers and help you may set/achieve a wee fitness goal.

Anyway how blissful it is to be Noon(ish) on Sunday and have another whole half the long weekend to come.

Lest we Forget but lest we forget to plan for the future, get out and lose contact with our devices for a moment this weekend.

A new film review coming tomorrow BTW

RIP - the artist who introduced me to live music

Yes back in the 90's or maybe 80's my neighbour took me as a child to see Prince @ the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

It was my first live gig (many to come) and one of the most memorable moments as a true music lover.

Prince at only 57 has done what few performers achieve and that is remain relevant. Stunts, gimmicks and surprise releases can come and go, but Prince, he had it, he actually had the X Factor.

The Guardian did a stunning piece on the artist who help shaped music today = HERE

Prince a true legend may you RIP.

The Long Weekend Awaits Bitches!

Coffee dates, a workout plan, a screening of the new movie Mother's Day and maybe a weekend Musical Matinee bit of Madness. Yes the long weekend is here and my posts will be more frequent and even more healthily.

As April starts off a two month special of looking after your body and you're self.

Happy pre long weekend folks and fuck off NSW school holidays. Out, mic drop....

Cheap Tuesday - Cheeky Health Tip

For my eating better month, trying to get back into the swing of things month, I have this month trained my body to eat only when required. No sneaky mid morning or afternoon snacks and less pre dinner eating.

It's three meals a day or bust. And for me this was just a case of training. Getting used to meal times and sticking to my guns, eat a big breakfast:

1 x banana
with a bowl of Coles Muesli
soy milk
two spoons of Passionfruit yoghurt

with one coffee with my breakfast and then a second mid morning in place of cookies or naughty snacks.

Lunch - whatever is served, yesterday sushi with a mix of afternoon water and herbal tea.

Dinner - last night sausages with cous cous and roasted vegetables.

If you repeat this a few days running you're body will soon adjust and boy oh boy do you feel better for it, no more bloating and no more feeling full all day long.

Girls - Season 5

The Best Series Yet.

Yes I said it, Season 5 and Hannah's madness was a compelling red hot mess and honest look into today's very busy and manic society.

Looking at imperfect relationships and friendships really is refreshing. I know the drama and breakdowns on MKR can be swift editing but Jessa and Adam's scene in episode 10, was EPIC. Nothing short of brilliant writing and acting.

I am deeply in love with this show and next year when we say goodbye to Hannah and the gang HBO will have a big hole to fill. They have also just lost Togetherness another show about serious adult relationships and Vinyl (although not rating great) is a bit of a new gem in the HBO drama crown.

Veep is also an outstanding show that HBO has to offer and on the more nerdy side Silicon Valley does have it's moments.

HBO has taken a great gamble on the raw honesty expressed in Girls and at times it's sometimes hard to watch and difficult to watch with say a partner but man, what an EPIC season. Five seasons in the show is definitely one of those shows to add to the growing list of The Golden Era of TV.

HBO has made a real name for itself with outstanding dramas and comedies over the years, lets honour some now:

Getting On
The Newsroom
Enlightened
True Blood
Big Love
Six Feet Under
Sex & The City

HBO, again you are brilliant and Lena Dunham what a visionary to create some a modern and amazing classic, loves it. Can't wait for Season Six...

16% Body Fat

On a month where I have endeavoured to be healthy and try to get back in the swing of things after almost a month in Asia and a March filled with Holidays and Easter I had a fitness test and physical this morning.

I was mostly excited by results and happy with how I faired considering I haven't been as physically active as I had been in previous months.

I weighed in still around the 78.4KG mark and had a rough estimate of 16% body fat. Which wasn't bad but I would ideally like to get somewhere around the 12% body fat.

As I said previously May is going to continue this theme across this blog of being a month of, MOVE THIS MAY.

Yeah get off your fanny and lets move together, run, walk or even prancercise down the strew. Example in the friendly video below.

Alright bitches let's do this, for a new workout and a return to the cinema plus my take on TV keep flicking across this page and I will endeavour to do multiple updates/posts this week.

My favourite thing this week is despite the popularity of MKR, Manu live on Stage is cancelled across the nation, poor Manu, advertisers it's time to wake up = reality TV viewers aren't worth targeting unless you are Coles, comfortable shoes, similar reality shows serving up more crying white people about white people problems or a subscription to the Daily Terrorgraph.

So instead of sitting on your ass four nights a week watching some Paleo lover and some unpopular French dude, Prancercise Australia, Prancercise!

That Movie Gay #2016

What happens when you get way too excited about a film, hope for another Bridesmaids or Spy and end up getting THE BOSS? Well disappointment sets in. Well at least it does for the first half of the film and parts of the conclusion.

The Boss is yet another Melissa McCarthy machine, a character from her past amateur theatre days and now a School Holidays hit?

Look comedies in this day and age are always welcome. Comic book to movie films dominate the screens as does sequels, prequels, spin offs and everything in between so I am always going to enjoy original comedies more than one of the above unless it's brilliant.

Now the Boss has many flaws, one Kristen Bell is beautiful, she is made out to be a complete plain Jane, wrong. One major flaw, second is the fact that it feels long due to the almost extremely dull start. Kathy Bates was also under used and I am beginning to wonder whether she even wants to appear on the screen anymore. Her recent performances in American Horror Story have been most underwhelming.

This all said the movie has some extremely great moments (a few you would have seen in the recent Red Band trailers) and moments when you wish the start was better so all in all it was another great comedy to McCarthy's growing list of gems.

The Boss is not great but it's a cut above the Huntsman, Superman V Batman and some of the other sheer crap currently at the cinemas. 3 Stars.

It's a new Week..

As a new week commences it's a new week of goals and aims. And now we are mid way through this week it's clearly been a busy week. Finally I have reset my gym membership (late last week) and now I am back in the swing of things.

Monday I hit the old treadmill again, 5km in around 25 minutes, a little slower than my old best but steady as she goes.

Last night the return to the tough and rewarding cxworks.

It feels great being back at the gym and once you get that first visit out of the way, it does get easier. I will blog a little more frequently as the week winds down but man this week has been tough and busy.

Eating wise I am continuing to give shit food the flick. I have not completely gone overboard but I weighed myself around the same time last month and I have since lost 2.4KG. Not that weight lose was my main aim but god a mix of eating better and inner health plus, what a difference.

Until next time, I can't wait to MOVE THIS MAY. Yeah that is next month and I will continue to bring you a few more workouts and fun before April wraps up.

Weekend Fitness Routine

So I think fitness and trying to do better by you're body should not make you feel guilty. So basically I had a super Sunday last week with a work out in the stunning Central Park followed by a bit of a run around sunny Sydney Uni in the afternoon.

Since then I have been fairly non active, however other than a mini diet coke can I have been extremely good at sticking to a no sweet April. I had horrible cravings Friday night but thankfully Broadway Shops currently has nowhere to eat nor drink after-hours so I was saved! The cravings have been less frequent for sweet food this April than other months I have tried to avoid cakes, chocolate and other treats.

However Fridays cravings were intense and made up for the frequency.

So I have finally rejoined up for the gym so I am hoping when my Fitness and movable May with bring many posts about success with my new membership.

Hold tight as well I have a fitness planning session next Saturday AM too so I will be sure to let y'all know about that.

But my main point is if you don't get to the gym, have that run, or have a treat on a non treat day it's not the end of the world. Just compensate for it, so if you have a treat on a non treat day, have a run, walk or something to balance out the treat.

If you don't hit the gym, don't beat yourself up, I am eating healthy and feel better already and the whole 70% diet, 30% exercise thing is so true.

So here is a little workout if you're feeling it:

1. find a park with a decent incline, it doesn't have to be sand hills or anything major.
2. start off planning to do ten hill sprints (or at least increase speed on the way up)
3. do one hill sprint, then plank it for 30 seconds.
4. second hill sprint and jog back, second time plank for 45 seconds.
5. Next time again sprint up, jog down, hold the plank for one minute.

And continue on building you're plank time and go as higher as you like, ten is just a guide, go for 15, but just go until you're comfortable, no vomiting please.

During April, I will continue to give you fitness ideas in a non judgemental and non fitspo or thinspo style, it's all about feeling good and not being an annoying show pony. Well that's my motto.

Until next time xo

That Movie Gay #2016

How does one go about making a sequel/prequel to a movie that was a bit shit in the first place? That is the question and the week one (NSW) school holidays teen movie THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR faces...

Back in 2012 Snow White & The Huntsman opened to average reviews however at the time was far superior to Mirror, Mirror also released in 2012.

There was a scandal with Kristen Stewart with the first film so she is replaced in a way by Emily Blunt who really doesn't do bad girl very well. Charlize Theron returns but only briefly. Thor I mean Chris Hemsworth returns ahead of the Ghostbusters reboot and Jessica Chastain joins the cast as Hemsworth love interest.

Yes love is a big them in this prequel/sequel whatever the fuck it's meant to be thing.

Aimed squared at the female of the species in the later years of high school for the school holidays but my session (almost full to it's credit, it was a Friday night, not my normal movie going time) was filled with gay men and women around my age (30+).

Ok so my tone sounds negative but special effects wise and costumes this film looks a million bucks, this however does not make up for the film being a bit of a red hot mess. Not as bad as Batman V Superman but still not great.

Look School Holidays is bringing out all the teen favourites with another Divergent film landing next week and Zootopia doing great business for the younger of the holiday makers. This isn't a bad film, but it's not great either. Fairytales like comic book films are a bit overdone lately and maybe it's time to rest poor old Snow White and the characters surrounding her.

The latest Huntsman film despite the young Hemsworth boy being easy on the eye is all looks and no content. I'll pass this on it's wonderful visuals, 2.5 fairytale stars.

That Movie Gay #2016 {Screening}

Where does one start with EDDIE THE EAGLE? (released in Australia April 21, US release date 26 February, UK 28 March)

At a screening this was introduced and numerous times presented as a feel good, smile ear to ear film, were they right? Hell yes.

Look I don't usually buy into all these terms:

heartwarming
smile from ear to ear
leave the cinema with a smile on you're dial

However all of those statements were true and not just from me, as I like to ears drop in public this is the only way to describe Hugh Jackman's latest film which doesn't suck.

And yes there is a little bit too much action, action, action these days so it's nice and refreshing to see a new drama that makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

That said it's not perfect but really what film is? It ran a fairly tight runtime which is always good and I found myself loving the ending and loving the entire story.

Taron Egerton was excellent in Kingsman: The Secret Service and I look forward to him returning in the sequel. And again in this he was adorable, loveable and a little more chubby, also it looks like he has scored a gig on the upcoming Robin Hood origins film.

So Eddie the Eagle it's a feel good sports film based on true events, cute and it rates a solid 3.5 Stars.

Moving with YOU in May (another month of FITSPO)

April has been a fairly average month for me to attempt a Fitness fuelled frenzy so I am titling May, Moving May or Movement May, all about getting moving and doing stuff.

Food wise though April has been a load better than previous months, I had a guilty moment with a tiny Diet Coke can last night, but other than this, in the clear!

I will post another workout soon and of course there are more film reviews coming and Australian Music Month V2.0 continues over on Flashing off the Record, this week with a feature on PNAU.

That Movie Gay #2016

Oh dear did I really return to the cinema to see this BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE? Previous review found HERE.

Trailer now:

Ok it's OFFICIAL I love Wonder Woman and I am on the countdown till the film is released in 2017.

So this film was one of those rare films that was better a second time, believe it or not, Batman V Superman can get better.

There has been a whole heap of talk about how shit this film and in my first review I gave it a pretty low scoring about 1.5 Stars, was this because I was influenced by all the poor scores?, was it all the shaking around the 4D experience gave me on a Bangkok Belly? Or was I juts in the mood for a free film on Saturday night in LUX class experience. Thanks Hoyts BTW.

So in my second experience I knew what to expect, I knew the scene between Batman and Superman,  you know the big fight was a bit shit and over the top and also the fact the plots are a red hot mess and hardly anything is resolved with more questions than answers, but it was really just time to sit back and enjoy the action.

The action comes thick and fast and what about Lex Luther? Could he be the most annoying villain of all time?

Oh but Wonder Woman, just bring on that film, not sure about the Flash and Aquaman but Wonder Woman yes please!

So after thinking a lot more of this the second time but also knowing it's not the worlds best superhero film (not even this years best superhero film) but look I'm going to pass it, 2.5 Stars. Maybe don't get caught up in the anti Batman V Superman hype.

Return to the Workout World - Round One - 10x Set

So Sunday I finally got my mojo back and I hit the 10 x 10 sets, well I did around 5 but for the first time back I was happy with that, I also added a run in between sets.

I also had a double whammy I went back to back with a run late afternoon around Sydney Uni with a few planks to wrap up.

I wanted to add a welcome back to the week workout so here goes:

CORE 101:

Plank - general plank, no variation elbows to ground and hold on for at least one minute.

NEXT Hip raisers, do 15, hold the last one at the top and drop slowly.

Plank again - this time on each side, tap your toes out to each side. Do 10 taps each side. This will strength you're sides and make your sides feel totally sexy.

NEXT Hip raisers again, do 15, hold the last one at the top and drop slowly.

This time side planks, at least 30 seconds each side.

NOW for some old school bicycle sit ups, so on your back legs up and twist and shout to each side, do 15 each side, this will fucking burn like a mother.

NEXT on your back, sit up position, tap you're toes to the ground, legs at 90 degrees, change legs over 15 times each side. So leg at 90 degrees and then tap you're toe, up and swap legs.

Plank again - this time on each side, tap your toes out to each side. Do 10 taps each side. This will strength you're sides and make your sides feel totally sexy.

NEXT Hip raisers again, do 15, hold the last one at the top and drop slowly.

FINISH with Bicycle Sit Ups, 15 each side again, total of 30 and then rest up, you're gonna be sore and that's your core. Wow that rhymes.

Suggest core workout music below for your motivation:

Tomorrow I re-visit Batman V Superman, man Superman is FIT, perfect review for a Fitness focused April.

That Movie Gay #2016

A film in based in Italy, with some Italian, a wee wee bit of French and English = A BIGGER SPLASH.

The film starts with a random nude scene between the two left characters, Tilda Swinton and Matthias Schoenarts. Both are fairly unconvincing in a relationship and deeply flawed.

Ralph Fiennes spends a great deal of the film fully naked and Dakota Fanning again gets her kit off after the success of 50 Shades of her being naked.

The film is a bit slow to start with but after seeing a few blockbusters in the past few weeks and having an absence from the cinema this was quite nice. It reminded me of the Brad and Angelina film By the Sea a lot. Not just cause it was foreigners behaving badly in Europe, but the whole tone of the film.

The wealthy Americans with too much time and money on their hands and the excessive world of the rich and famous.

A Bigger Splash is nothing new nor as beautiful as By the Sea, but still overall an enjoyable piece. A little long so it will lose marks there, 3 "show us ya wang Matthias" Stars.

Fitness Friday - Fitness Goals for My Fitness Fuelled April 2016

Oh shit I have been dreading the day I get back into Fitness, yes I was team Boot Camp for years but when one gets out of step, oh shit!

I avoided an April Fools Day post yesterday as I was a little busy and in all honesty it was not the best day to start a Fitness month.

I ate a hot dog for lunch/dinner and had Fro Yo plus Toppings for dessert/remainder of dinner, so it wasn't a brilliant eating start to the month, but that's why I wanted to do this month, to see what works and what doesn't and yesterday didn't.

So what I hope to achieve and tick off my list this month? Well:

1. Eat less sweets (yesterday - major fail)
2. Get back into my exercises and maybe rejoin the gym
3. Commence walking my 10,000 steps again, yes on holidays I would have easily doubled this but now it's back to reality
4. Do my own little workouts on the weekend. Yes I am sorry trainers out there, after years of doing boot camps there are many workout routines I have memorised

So here is one for Sat 2 April 2016:

It's called 10's

10 x regular sit up's
10 x squats
10 x push ups
10 x regular sit up's
10 x lunges
10 x star jumps

Rest, repeat

Basically rest, repeat until you have done 10 sets of the 6 exercises above. This will give you:

200 regular sit up's
100 x squats
100 x push ups
100 x lunges
100 x star jumps

This is a good start and where (pending feeling alright in the morning, I did sleep sound through until 9am this morning) will start again tomorrow. With the squats it's good to have something for your butt to touch as a guide so give that a go.

I will also review the nude film I saw last night - A Bigger Splash, star Matthias Schoenaerts inspired me HARD. Here he is in all his glory, hot!

Tomorrow (or I hope to if I am not sore after the above workout) you can catch a full review of this highly sexual, almost all star nude affair.

Happy Fitness Month.
