Album of the year - UPDATE!

In 2010 I am searching through my BLOG for this years hottest album and finally we have at the halfway point a third candidate.

After the John Butler Trio (April Uprising) and Angus & Julia Stone (Down the Way) have led the way so far we now have another Aussie to join the ranks. She is a lovely young lady originally city of churches Adelaide but now finds herself mingling, dating and writing music for some of the biggest personalities in Music. It’s non other than SIA. Her latest album “We are Born” has already spawned the hits “You’ve Changed” & “Clap Your Hands” now comes the album in full.

The album is her most poppy album to date and it is a total feel good and dance around album.

I personally rate this really highly but I will let you judge for yourself, go but it now! It did in Australia debut @ #2 on the ARIA charts just one bit around from the number #1 album from Eminem.

Stay tuned more nominations but let’s welcome SIA to my list of 2010 album of the year nominations:

• John Butler Trio – April Uprising
• Angus & Julia Stone – Down the Way
• SIA – We are Born

Wicked - It's only on till Mid September

So I thought it would be high time to check out the replacement for Rob Mills, young Tim Campbell. The show is flawless besides Bert Newton, and a change in the main characters is always a welcome arrival as this has been playing in Sydney and before that Melbourne for quite some time now.

The set and costumes are simply terrific, the songs are great and catchy and the main role of Lucy Durrack is always a thrill to watch. I missed who played Elphaba on the Saturday Matinee I attended but the wonderful Amanda Harrison has now left this role.

Tim Campbell was also a breathe of fresh air after how horrid Rob Mills (besides to look at) was.

So overall an enjoyable matinee and a fun day out at the theatre again, now being my fifth time seeing this one :)

I will give Wicked a welcome 3.5 stars for this fifth perfromance I have sat through.

BANG downstairs @ Belvoir

You have to get in quick as this is only on until this Sunday so quick sticks!

This play was very similar to "Beyond the Neck" in last years Downstairs season.

I did enjoy it but the first act was a little hard to follow but as it settled into the second act it really took off. The actors played great roles in this difficult to tackle matter.

I think the only flaws with this film could be the different actors all playing multiple roles which at times you struggled to know who was who.

I do recoomend this play and as I stated at the top it's only around till this weekend so get amongst it NOW!

Film Freak - Get him to the Greek

Oh dear, I have never got the whole Russell Brand thing, he is (you guessed it) ugly as fuck and also not very entertaining. The film is basically just his life in reverse. He was with a character played by the overly talented Rose Byrne where he was sober and a one woman man, then he becomes a man whore!

Now in his own life he was a man whore and now is marrying the equally untalented Katy Perry.

Both just really have amazign marketing people behind them.

Back to the movie and you an tell by my review it wasn't very interesting hence have a stab at his bleak career and even bleaker wife to be.

The story is predicatble, long and at times very boring.

I think I would struggle to give this anymore than 2 stars (mainly for the FAB Rose Byrne).

Get him to the Greek, is definately one for DVD only.

Breaking News - We have a ranga chick prime minister!

Film Freak - Wog Boys 2

Oh dear!

Okay I bagged this film a little while back when saying there wasn't much going on with Australian cinemena and now I know why I knocked it.

It was okay but WAY too long!

The jokes were really obvious and the cast at times even looked bored.

Alex D is always hot and seems to only be getting hotter with age! He is one fine speciman and basically just for him and his sexy chest I can give this Aussie film a glowing 2 and a half stars.

Club Shows - Gotta Love Them

Well Saturday night I headed off to the show that has been around for a while which I have never quiet got around to seeing, Pupperty of the old Penis. Well just penis but hey.

Now I never travel over the bridge so it was a massive effort to get me from Chippendale to North Sydney Leagues.

Now don't get me wrong I love nudity but over half an hour of staring at a two mens penis's I got a little weird. I thought do I maybe like the fanny? Cause looking a pee pees for so long has made me want to see something different?

Anyway the show was funny in parts and the famel comedian who wamred up the room was pretty wrong which is always good.

Overall seeing limp penis for a long period of time is slightly weird cause usually when I watch penis for thirty minutes it's porno and it's all on for young and old.

3 limp stars.

There is justice in the world of sports

Well done to QLD for defeating NSW 5 series in a row. As the old song goes NOBODY LIKES A RACIST. NSW get with the times it is 2010!

The world is Dizzee Mad!

Can Dizzee Rascal get any bigger in 2010! Well I guess so he has just reached the number one spot in the UK again with another new release “Shout (for England)”. On this single released for the over hyped Soccer World Cup he teams up with James Corden from the fab Gavin & Stacey UK sitcom. The song is built around the 1984 Tears for Fears song "Shout" and also samples "Grandma's Hands" by Bill Withers.

Previous to this Dizzee has been no stranger to the top of the UK charts hitting it with Dirtee Disco, Holiday, Bonkers and Dance Wiv Me. The mash up with Florence’s You’ve Got the Dirtee Love also made an impressive effort of #2.

Can anyone stop this chart topping machine, his most recent album has now gone platinum in the UK and he looks like he will continue to dominate the very competitive UK charts for months to come now.

Dizzee Rascal earns a nomination for one of the hardest and best performing male artists of 2010 thus far!

Finally back to the Theatre for a stage GEM!

Yes it has been a little while between drinks for me and a theatre review so here goes:

The Sapphires - Now Showing @ the Seymour Centre

Okay this is FAB! Hands down the most fun I have had at the Theatre since I would have to say Priscilla. I loved this true tale of four Aboriginal women who travelled to Vietnam to sing to the soldiers.

The story, the music and the acting were all top notch. Casey Donovan was simply blissful as one of the four sisters, Christine Anu was excellent and looked at home on the stage and young Hollie Andrews voice was a killer! This was sensational, think Bran Nue Dae but in Vietnam!

Amazing story, acting and great use of well known and popular songs.

I would have to say this was my favourite piece of theatre for the last financial year, it is tremendous and I don't have a single criticism.

The Sapphires, glows, sparkles and charms the pants off you, 4.5 stars.

Film Freak - Harry Brown

OMG this film is bleak and darker than the original Batman movie with Michael Keaton. Michale Caine plays this out a lot like Gran Tarino before and also to an extent Up (I know it was a kids movie but their were deep themes in that film).

It is easy to compare this to Gran Tarino because an elderly man takes on the youth of the horrible kids on the Estate in England.

This film is always dark even when it is shoot in the day, it is as scary as Animal Kingdom with the music always building the scenes up.

There is one scene in this movie that was so disturbing and graphic even I was scared!

Don't get me wrong this is a good movie set in a horrible place with a horrible story to tell. Ben Drew (AKA Plan B - great musician currently with tracks like She Said, Stay Too Long & My Love Goes Down) is freaky as one of the main bad kids!

Please don't see this if you hate drug use, the C word and extreme violence, it's not for everyone but well worth a look in 3 stars.

SIA here, SIA there, SIA is everywhere

When listening to my IPOD on the weekend on the bus I noticed SIA has with nearly every bastard under the sun in recent times, she is here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeBumP_1VYI

With David Byrne and Slim on a song about non other than Imelda Marcos (this concept album rocks)

She helped Lior out with this beautiful gem:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4Ufb1D-vyY

She is helping our on her latest CD!

And she also has done an amazing job on this Flight of the Concords track:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cGoDns8wTA

And finally with the awesome Bird and the Bee on this Bee Gees hit:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opJtIYBgLDg

AWESOME! Enjoy :)

Film Freak - Nightmare on Elm Street (2010 Edition)

Well this was viewed kinda illegally as a mate downloaded so technically it's not a film freak experience at the cinema with the big sounds, popcorn, peoples mobiles going off and the general chit chat in the back rows.

However I am padding this out as this was LAME! The children were hideous and you wanted them to die (well not children but actors claiming to be high school children).

This movie really didn't hold my attention well at all. I only recently saw the original with a young Johnny Depp. This was scarier and even had better acting. Freddy was just too digitally worked on and therefore bored the pants off me (literally).

Nightmare on Elm Street won't give you nightmares about Freddy but about the terrible acting and lame (why bother) remake aspects. half a star

Film Freak - the Losers

I love action movies in 2010, there are so many good ones!

And the Losers is one of those good ones, it doesn't take itself to seriously, it has some hot man candy, great action sequences and some funny but cute dialogue.

Clearly set itself up for a possible sequel this less big name action film (after big ones like Robin Hood & Iron Man 2) packs just as big a punch with some lesser known faces but still strong performances.

Chris Evans not as hot as he was back in the Fantastic Four but still sexy :)

The Losers, is definitely not a losing film it rates a solid 3 action packed stars.

Top 5 @ 5 - Fri 4 Jun 2010

1. M.I.A - XXXo
2. Plan B - The Recluse/Free/My Love Goes Down/Stay Too Long (Great Album *****)
3. David Byrne/Fatboy Slim & Sia - Never So Big
4. Kelis - 4th of July(fireworks)
5. The Ashton Shuffle - I Wanna See You

Farewell to wee Adelaide, hello to Sydney

As I farewell the city of Churches, I am back in old Sin City for another round of rubbish filled streets, people smashing past you and extremely rude individuals.

No Sydney isn't all bad it is a beautiful city, not as nice and flat as Adelaide, not a hill or incline in sight, it's perfect for the oldies of the nation.

As we ramp up for a massive June Long Weekend and the beginnings of winter 2010 it's time to wrap and go for my beautiful little Bunnies. Next Monday they played the cocksucking Cowboys and without JT (Jonathan Thurston) who swore at the ref, they are looking hot to trot.

Coming soon a million more film reviews, the Sapphires cops a review and maybe even a concert or two will go under my spotlight.

Film Freak – New York I Love You

Well I do love a bit of romance and I do love New York so this movie along with it’s mega cast of Bradley Cooper, Christina Ricci (Where has she been?), Andy Garcia, Shia LaBeouf, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Orlando Bloom, Ethan Hawke & a monster load more, it’s kinda like the who’s who of TV and film, love it!

This follows the previous film Paris, je t'aime of a massive number of short stories based on romance in a particular city.

If you like good character development and a strong plot, this is not for you as it cuts into one story and then moves into another one quicker than you can hate any characters or story lines.

I enjoyed it and found some of the stories just great, but some not so great, however all and all it rates 3 warm and fuzzy loving stars.

Film Freak – Animal Kingdome

OMG have we finally got the Aussie feature film of 2010, after a slow (and I mean slow) 5 or so months so far, this film has blown me away completely! You just need to check out the cast, Joel Edgerton, Jackie (she is a DIVA) Weaver, Sullivan Stapleton (From TV’s FAB Satisfaction), Ben Mendelssohn, Luke Ford, Guy Pearce & Dan Wylie WOW!

Now this movie completely shows Underbelly series 3 is one massive heap of cow turd. This inspired by true crime in Melbourne story is awesome, the family dynamics is terrific, the tension created by the music and Jackie Weaver is just sensational. I sat through this film thinking, shit, this is so amazing and after what Wog Boys 2 and I can’t even name other Aussie films this year there has been that few, the AFI’s are all heading to Animal Kingdome.

I rate this film extremely high getting yes 4.75 stars.
