La Soiree V Empire - Two Carnival Shows One City

So I thought I would do a double show review as I saw two carnival/circus type shows in the one week.  One being La Soiree @ Sydney's most iconic building the Opera House:

And the other being a replacement out at Fox Studios for Cirque it's the New York based Empire:

So how do these two shows stand up against each other and in a tough climate for selling tickets, one needs to have an edge above the other.

So La Soiree was my Wednesday entertainment and with the Studio @ the Opera House turned into a carnival experience it was a bit of a hoot having everything from roller skating to a full bath on stage right before your eyes.  They were amazing moments and cringe worthy double jointed moments (if you've seen it you'll know what I mean) but overall this was a lot more PG rated than Empire which with full frontal nudity and non stop sexual chat it is definitely the show for a more mature audience.

La Soiree featured artists from all over the world (much like their recent fab dance success Blaze) whereas Empire was all out of the States (where not to brag but I am off to next Wednesday @ 9pm), this added to La Soiree with different acts adding different worldly elements.

They are hard to compare really at the end of the day but the old hoola hoops get rolled out at each and some strength work between male and female or male and male (in time for Mardi Gras) is a feature at each.

Overall I have to say I did enjoy La Soiree slightly more as this to me felt more polished and seamless with Empire feeling a little flat in moments and not seamless with it's running.

So here are my final marks:

La Soiree - 3.5 Stars
Empire - 3 Stars

Tomorrow a super chart with a brand new Number One and Monday the last Summer music list, the hottest and most fun  songs of the last three months.

Oh and finally, this was a Friday work thing, oh boy:

Not as sexy as when the Cronulla Sharks had a crack LOLZ:

Beautiful Thing – Seymour Centre

Beautiful Thing – Seymour Centre   It’s Mardi Gras time in Sydney and with Mardi Gras brings some cultural excitement and events to help us gays get through the day to day grindr of listening to back to back Kylie medley’s, practising our Beyonce “Single Ladies” dances moves and basically living life on the edge. Well maybe that’s not me however I am currently enjoying Tegan and Sara’s ultra camp new album “Heartthrob”.

Okay to the task @ hand and last week/weekend I drowned myself in the wonderful world of Cinema and this week it’s been the live scene. Tomorrow I will review La Soiree which is currently playing @ the Opera House and was a little bit AWESOME!

Anyway so Beautiful thing, a play originally then a movie now a play again, as Shirley Bassey sang it’s all just a lit bit of History Repeating. First up the set was amazing as were the terrific young cast. I loved the detail for the fantastic set of units set in Britain our mother land.

The story is beautiful and the comic element of the play is just great with loads of laughs to be had and basically an all round fun night at the theatre. The relationship between the boys is beautiful but so is the mother son dynamics and the sub plots in this oh so 90’s world play.

I have seen a few things around Mardi Gras time in Sydney and this by far is the standout. I have seen shows with loads of nudity and no substance, shows with no substance and no nudity and this “Beautiful Thing” is full of substance and for some readers no nudity.

I rate this one highly, it’s a great story with laugh out loud moments and real heart, “Beautiful Thing” rates a solid 4 gay power stars. Tickets still up for grabs @

Happy Friday

What's On @ the Movies in Melbourne MUTHA FUKKA! (3 Film Super Review)

Silver Linings Playbook

So it's up for a million awards including our own Jackie Weaver up for an award or two. Bradley Cooper and the chick from the Hunger Games are also great. As is the rest of the supporting cast including De Niro.

Silver Linings Playbook is a rather long movie (which with trailers makes it longer) but a good little drama with a lot of heart including a great little dance sequence which nearly blew my mind.

Silver Linings Playbook could take out heaps of awards as it's an honest look at mental illness which really does need to be in the awareness of the general public.

I enjoyed this film and if you have a spare two hours this weekend for a well acted and sweet film, this one could be for you. 3.5 Silver Stars.

Django Unchained   Again also up for a lot of awards this revenge style film staring the super sexy and oh so fine Jamie Foxx is a great ride. I had so much fun with this (long - yes all three films I saw this weekend tested my weak ass bladder) film, although it seems like a few films in one.
Tarinto really turned the violence up to 11 and some of the scenes are just crazy. Leo was superb as well even though he is only in a small portion of this extreme film.

Jamie Foxx does this so well and not since Uma Thurman has revenge been seeked in such an extreme and relentless manner.

Jamie kicks ass and makes this film a mighty Unchained affair earning a Django Django inspired 4 stars.

Safe Haven
Valentines Day romantic film releases are fun and this has some little twists plus a cool Aussie dude to throw into the mix.

I had some time to kill and this was the only film on at my favourite 10am slot and I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

It was a little long for your rom com type film but still a lot of fun. It was predictable and slow to start with but once it built on it's random intro it really got going.

Safe Haven is one if you've seen everything else and feel like an easy to watch film where you leave check your brain at the cinema door. Safe Haven rates a safe 2.75 stars.

#Australia All Over done + dusted, next stop...

USA Today, yes my new segment for my new overseas travel will bring you the latest and greatest from the worlds number 14 power the USA.

So after four weeks, Canberra tick, Gold Coast total tick and now Melbourne hell yeah it's a tick and a photo diary is coming real soon proudly brought to you by those cuts at the all new Today Tonight "Racism and bad journalism never looked so shit".

So in the Qantas club I sit stuffing liquorice all sorts down my neck I reflect on what I learnt from this fine brown land.

1. Sydney is a mean city. People are cranky, rents are high and no one really gives a hoot.
2. Aussies love bad tattoos the badder the better, the tackier more terrific and the Southern Cross, bring it mate!
3. The food we eat and diet we have is turning a little bit into the USA!
4. Summer is different in each state and territory.
5. Immigration is a great thing, suburbs with cultural hubs make Australia look like we have more culture than just getting shit faced like the bogans next to me in the Qantas club.
6. Sydney people are hotter.
7. I think it's time we all learnt a second language.
8. States run by a state liberal party are no worse or better than a Labour Party run state.
9. Aussies like bad music, Bruno Mars is cute but they latest song is the most over played piece of poo of 2013 thus far.
10. Learnings over.

In conclusion, I have a big week for my lovely readers, film, photo and more in my lead up to USA Today, scream, ten days (like the Missy Higgins song) till holidays, do I love my life, hells yes xoxo

CBD 2Footscray bloggin on the iPhone Lolz

So with the weekend finally here and the Australia all over journey continuing its next stop Footscray in the search of Australia's most fantastic places to go.

After finishing my conference of yesterday and heading into the CBD for a light film (review to come) it was time to hit up the African and Vietnamese hub of Footscray.

It's all coming back to me now (no this is not a Celine Dijon reference) that in Viet class the book heavily referenced Footscray. And here I am.

So three stops into my #Australia all over rampage I look to the future and in 11 days I will be US bound! So need a holiday!

But yeah thanks for reading, happy belated valentines day and Sydney only one more sleep and I leave the cultural hub of Australia!

Good Morning and Andrew Out!

@Melbourne #Australia All Over

The last stop in my three state/territory visit of this very sunburnt nation. After a dreamy Qantas flight from Sydney and two dinners it was time to settle into the cultural heart of the nation, Melbourne.

After horrid tattoos and bad food what am I expecting from Melbourne? Clean sheets at my hotel, seeing good friends and basically enjoying a break from boot camp and busy Sydney.

Its also only a couple of weeks till the USA so watch this space!

From a Melbourne hotel, I'm out (literally)

Holy Roller it's life in the fast lane @ GoldCoast #Australia All Over

Oh boy so after a smooth JetStar flight and a check into to an apartment near the beach it's straight to Movie World and Sea World yesterday, what a hoot, however I was too over going upside down by the Green Lantern, yes I'm old!!!!

So after smashing two theme parks, a large Big Mac meal it was time for dinner. You really work up a hunger after queuing up all day and hanging upside down on a batman ride.

So it was off to Bazaar at QT, a buffet with a difference, instead of leaving really full, I could barely walk afterwards. Oh help me Lunar New Year, year o the Snake I am still at 6.30am Gold Coast time full as a wounded bull.

Anyways so that about wraps up the second of my Australia all over stops, tomorrow a bit more of a wrap up and even a new countdown for y'all. I head to Melbourne Wednesday so y'all lucky southerns watch out!

Stay tuned as I get ready at the end of the month for a per Easter spree in Hawaii, Vegas, San Diego & LA! Scary so many plane rides in such a small time period.

OK bye!

TV Tonight - Wed 6 Feb 2013

It's the eve after the new series of Smash launched it's 2nd series and The Following is already killing it (literally), Girls the 2nd series is just divine, funny and real and Revenge is feeling awfully stale.

I have been accused of being a complete TV nerd who is watching too much
and when I only have a few weeks before running off on another holiday night times are to be spent in to save cash for some bargain US shopping.

So back to TV and my personal current highlights and going local first Next Stop Hollywood is so divine with Aussie Hopefuls doing the pilot auditions in the land of TV, this is a little bit of fun and shows the ugly side of acting and trying to get that break after hearing, no, and no and another no time and time again.

American (mainly there slightly alternate channels HBO & Showtime) are
really killing it, the sixth season of Californication is just too much, it's a scream an episode, it's funny, wrong and makes the fuss about Movie 43 a complete waste of time and ink. Showtime favourite the US version of Shamesless is just awesome, it's no wonder a fourth season has already been
greenlit.

The laughs on Showtime continue on HBO with that dreamy show Girls, this has been so terrific this season and I hate to think next week we are already half way through. Sad Face.

Revenge and Glee have had very hit and miss seasons and Arrow is coming out
a lot stronger as a male version of Revenge and with a comic book behind it.
The CW has done well with Arrow and later on I will try and catch the Carrie
Diaries when I have a spare moment.

I am also over the moon that the male form is on show again in Spartacus which I just love, all that muscle, fake tan and waxing, man oh man.

So what are my dream picks on TV at present:

Locally:

ABC -
The Return of Q&A
NEXT STEP HOLLYWOOD

USA:

GIRLS - season 2
SHAMELESS - season 3
CALIFORNICATION - season 6
THE FOLLOWING - season 1

SPARTACUS - season 3 (? weird I think it's actually the fourth but they are in some weird ass order)
This weekend it will be blogging LIVE from the sunny Gold Coast so join me as I get my Wet n Wild on.
