Maybe She's Born With It - Courtney Act

So a drag show on Oxford Street, what a coincidence? Well this was actually a show which has travelled abroad apparently and hit the US of A!

I did love the songs in this show and the story telling from Courtney was quiet good, she did drift away a bit from the stories from time to time but this made it feel less scripted and more of a personal approach. By telling stories with drifting moments you actually believed the stories and enjoyed them more.

Finishing up with the latest Lady Gaga song which I hadn't heard until this show was a good move since apparently it's all about being a dirty homo and being a drag queen.

Okay so Courtney Act - Maybe She's Born With It is on for two more nights before Mardi Gras this weekend and you can get tickets here so happy Mardi Gras readers and if your up for a drag of a good time heck out old Courney Act - 3 stars

Film Freak 2011 - Catfish

I heard a few whispers about thsi film but not too much which was good because the twist in this film is a killer.

You all know I hate the Facebook and this makes Facebook look like it is super easy to steal people's identities and create a world of lies and deception.

I don't know if this was a doco or whether someone though this up, but I loved it either way, it is simple and a great story.

Modern technology is getting way too much and now all I hear is did you see this on Facebook do you do this on Facebook? What ever happened to having a picnic in a park, catching a movie with a friend (where your friend did not check Facebook on there Smart Phone) or meet someone at a pub who you wanted to shag?

Is Facebook killing communication skills and communication in general, in short yes.

Catfish though is FAB, see you or else, get left behind like me and technology, 4 stars!

Film Freak 2011 - 127 Hours

Wow, how much do I love James Franco, enough to watch him cut his own arm off, well yeah.

The new film and much talked about over a cup of Jarrah by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting etc etc) is a beauty, it's short to the point and very graphic.

James Franco is adventurer Aron Ralston, he is maverlous and a real actor. He seems to only choose films that will challenge him and this film would have been a challenge, but it appears to be paying off with all the award nominations etc.

The lead up to that scene is great and by the end I was feeling that I could do anything. This man is an inspiration and being a true story this is just terrific.

I really loved 127 hours and James it is so well filmed and well acted this film is one of the summer films of 2010/2011.

127 Hours rates a full set of limbs and 4 stars.

Film Freak 2011 - Sanctum 3D

So a film starring former Home & Away star (and slightly androgynous)Rhys Wakefield who did great things in Black Balloon and the hugely successful Richard Roxburgh (who is killing in Rake - apparently I may wait for DVD) should be good right? Well right and wrong.

They also throw Dan Wyllie and Chaser funny boy Andrew Hansen into the mix which is weird and wonderful all at once.

Don't get me wrong I liked this film but there is a few issues here and there. And it was actually very tense and a little gross in parts.

I'm not sure whether this film like most 3D movies actually needs to be in 3D, the diving scenes are good in 3D, but the rest.

Okay so Sanctum 3D was entertaining, a bit drawn out in parts but when it got good it was so 3 stars cause it's mainly an Aussie affair.

Good Vibes 2011 & the best Good Vibes EVER!

So it was okay weather in the morning but as I watched in amazement at Erykah Badu's terrific set, the rain begun falling! And falling and falling all day. This however beat the heat in the past when I went to this interesting festival that is changing shape every year.

So first up on my day of Good Vibes was the divine Erykah Badu, she was simply amazing. The crowd loved her and the beats and rhymes were amazing. She played my favourite "Love of My Life" (less Common) and also the dreamy "Window Seat".

Then it was onto the very wet but bloody fun main stage with the Ting Tings. They played all their big hits from their debut opening with "Great DJ" and spinning "Fruit Machine", "Shut Up & Let Me Go" and closing with the extremely fun "That's not my Name". The new hit "Hands" was great too, overall they did the best possible with a small back catalogue and played to some die hard fans in the moist weather.

Then it was onto the MOST AMAZING Kelis! Great! The new album went off live (shame the sales are woeful) and she threw in some amazing old tracks including a mash up of Holiday and "Milkshake". Her performance, her performance was simply delightful! I loved every minute of her performance and also think this woman is one of the most under valued solo female performers of all time, thank you Good Vibes for providing this truly awesome performer!

Then was a touch of Damian Marley and Nas followed by some Ludacris. Overall Erykah and Kelis, what a day, it was awesome, it was wet, it was loose. Good Vibes you put on a winner this year despite no shows from Janelle Monae and Cee-Lo Green.

5 stars for the Good Vibes in 2011

The future of music is Tim & Jean

So after a night at Home and the Universal Music 2011 showcase I have found out that Tim & Jean are the brightest stars on the musical planet at present and they really are putting Mandurah (WA) on the map.

They played four songs including the fab "Come Around" and "Veronica", they also spun two new tunes which I loved. The boys were so happy to be on stage and played such a nice fun set. Loved it!

Dash & Will meanwhile kicked off the night and boy o boy have they changed their image since I saw them a few years back as an acoustic style duo. They are still talented young chicks but one could not have been too wrong thinking they were a lot like the old Veronicas!

Marvin Priest was next and he was to be kind a little interesting, his back up dancers (the male too) were awesome, but the females were terrible.

Neon Trees finished the night and they were my least favourite, the lead singer seemed bored to be there and really was an interesting indivdual to say the least!

Overall Tim & Jean are one of my favourite new bands, I love them!

Can't wait for their debut in April

First Theatre for 2011 - Diary of a Madman

Seeing the final performance of the wonderful Diary of a Madman was a real Sunday treat. Geoffrey Rush is one of the most amazing actors of all time and his potrayl of this clearly demented man is fantastic.

I loved every minute of this play including the fake fire alarm at interval LOL

Both acts were quick and too the point, Geoffrey was amazing and as was his off sider Yael Stone was simply terrific, love, love, loved her!

I think this was a perfect night at the theatre, the live music too also needs a major mention Musicians Paul Cutlan & Erkki Veltheim were simply perfect!

This was mad, fun and well wicked 5 stars!

Film Freak 2011 - Faster

Wow two action films in a row and this one starring the Rock aka Dwayne Johnson, and the red hot mess that is Billy Bob Thornton and a great support cast was an eye opener.

The plot was basically Kill Bill but take Uma away and add a Rok, I mean Dwayne Johnson.

He did a good job and the action scenes in this film were second to none. There was also a great level of suspense too, you just didn't know what this cold blooded but calculated killer in Dwayne Johnson would do, and was capable of doing.

Billy Bob was also terrific and as I said the support cast made this film standout. People will judge this and say it sucked but it didn't, take a look for yourself and make your own mind up, don't belive every two bit critic.

Faster, rates a fast 4 stars.

Film Freak 2011 - The Next Three Days

The Next Three Days, well another action/thriller movie for 2011 with the delighful Russell Crowe. I don't know whether I liked it or hated it. It had good points and really bad like it was way too long and drawn out, nothing happened quickly and even with this slow pace character development was at times horrid to say the least.

Looking at the good points once the action and suspense started it was good but it took a while to get there.

Russell Crowe was fine but it wasn't his best perfromance by a long shot.

This is an average film but in Sydney's heat wave it is okay so 3 (and only just 3) stars.

From MIA to SIA @ Sydney's iconic Enmore Theatre

I have been down with SIA's music for years now and this concert just made me love her more and more, she was simply amazing.

After a rather shaky MIA set as part of the Big Day Out sideshows, I was so much happier with a fun, happening and extremely funny set by SIA at the Enmore.

She performed heaps of her ARIA award and my BLOG's album of the year disc "We are Born" and various other hits.

She brought the house down in her fake encore with "Clap Your Hands" complete with a bubble machine and a pumping crowd.

"Breathe Me", "You've Changed", "Soon We'll be Found" & "The Girl You Lost to Cocaine" were favourites.

I almost wish I went to one of Sydney's Big Day Outs just to see her twice, not that there was anything else really exciting on this years Big Day Out lineup.

SIA was completely amazing as well behind the mic, her stories, her random gifts that she accepted on stage and her interaction with the band just made you embrace the SIA madness. LOVED IT

This concert will go close to my favourite for 2011, it's early in the year but this show flipping rocked, 5 massive bright and sparkling stars for SIA.
