Film Freak 2014 - The Maze Runner

The latest in the Twilight, Hunger Games, young adult adventure novel turned film series is here and it's actually.... good.

Yes here we go again with a film where it's sequel is green lit and ready with a 2015 release date it's The Maze Runner.  With the sequel around a year away it gives teens the perfect amount of time to pine over the leads and either read the book or read online what indeed they are in for with the second film.

I went in with super low expectations of this film in the almighty VMAX setting at Bondi Junction and was really pleasantly surprised. The acting was actually good, suspense was kept and the cast are actually likeable.

Doing way better box office business than the other young adult film on the block (The Giver) it's no wonder teens are flocking to see this action/sci-fi film. The Giver looks a bit shit but this is actually full of substance and mystery. It was like watching Lost from the start but you know this series has a lot more to reveal in coming films.

OK so it's not going to win any awards or be at the top of any end of year film lists but the Maze Runner is a decent School Holidays picture. Let's just say with Frozen back at the cinema and the lesbian inspired title of Box Trolls there ain't much else happening at the local cinema.

So if you think your kids can handle spooky noises, the idea of a real and more life threatening Big Brother experience this may give you two hours (1.5 hours film, 0.5 hours trailers/commercials) of free time without the children.

The Maze Runner its a cut average your average September/October filler film, 3 Stars.

A Sunday pre a Long Weekend...

So the AFL Grand Final is done and Sydney Swans came 2nd yesterday and my almighty Rabbits are finally in an NRL Grand Final.

Sports update done.

However I did have a truly lovely run around Centennial Park earlier this AM and almost forgot Listen Out Festival was there yesterday. To be honest other than a few empties around he perimeter the place was fairly clean.

Listen Out today moves to Perth and officially kicks off the 2014/2015 Festival season. For more Festival needs head along to my other BLOG Flashing off the Record. I have a Field Day Mixtape and on Monday I listed the biggest Festival acts to be heading our way for this very Festival season, check it out here.

So this week the Doctor on JJJ has been off his normal radio slot and the divine Ronny Chieng and Nazeem Hussain have taken over. What a great change this has been. The Doctor has been so passed his used by date for years. He is undoubtedly one of the stations (if not more so than Lewi McKirdy) most disliked announcers and also for me he was in his prime with Frenzal Rhomb but as a radio announcer, maybe stick to grave yard shifts.

In an era of comedians taking over breakfast and drive radio shifts, maybe it's time for JJJ to put the old Doctor to rest. He has done an average job, and let's be honest since Helen Razer (and either Judith Lucy or Adam Spencer) or Today Today with Chris & Craig JJJ has struggled to get a decent replacement.

So Ronny/Nazeem can't wait for a another week with you too. Ronny is also playing a few shows around the place too, for details why not go here.

Now to TV and the shame that is Channel 9 right now, primetime we get there poorly produced news at:

6pm
6:30pm - 8:00pm - WALL to WALL Bogans on the Block. Thank god apparently it's almost over.
8:00pm - 9:00pm - More war on terror, it must be either 60 Minutes of ACA
9:00pm - 10:30pm - Oh boy, more reality TV for an hour and a half. Big Brother continues to humiliate and draw negative attention to itself.

Weeks ago Nine was banging on how great it Big Brother was rating but now, it's all silent on the BB ratings front. Maybe cause half the audience has vanished without a trace. Funny how the Golden era of TV is filled with such shit in this country. And wait it's not even non ratings period yet. Fuck me.

Music wise well done to the return of the Veronica's their latest single has hit #1 on the ARIA charts. And speaking of ARIA's my predictions for all the categories in this year's awards is coming soon.

New Show Alert & a Saturday Update

How to Get Away with Murder is a new ABC (USA) drama series for the 2014-2015 season. What first attracted me was a 13 episode debut season, next 14.34 Americans tuned into the pilot and sometimes watching a new show and putting your faith in something you know little about turns out for the best.

Viola Davis is the lead in this truly fun and promising new mystery/legal drama. It's a promising start for a new ABC show as there current list of shows is a little on the lame side. Revenge Season 4 will hopefully be the last, Resurrection started strong but it seems like another Lost show (good for one season but any longer, this will become tiresome) and Greys Anatomy just feels a long way past it's used by date.

On other new shows, the show I was most excited about from the Fox network was Gotham. Getting a lot of good online reviews and having 8.21 million tuning in to the first episode this is also a promising start. Also like ABC Fox have a few good shows but need a good new hit. Glee wraps up for them this year with a shortened 13 episode final season and The Following surely will come to some kind of an end this season.

For those interested in Gotham here is a look at the upcoming second episode:

Wrapping up a Saturday post coming up next month I will load another two Album of the Year nominations over on my Music Blog - Flashing off the Record.

It's been a fairly slow year for full length albums but two have stood out over recent weeks and will join Chet Faker, Pharrell and Sia.

I also have a feeling I will go back and reboot my Super Producers series. Going all the way back to April last year my third Producer (and last) to be honoured was Diplo. For the previous fab producers see below:

Flume (Playing Listen Out - in Sydney - RIGHT NOW!)

Calvin Harris (a new Album should be out before 2014 comes to a close)

A Few Week's ago..

So since my last VERY public weigh in, I have weighed in again last night. Admittedly weighing in at the end of the day, also whilst feeling flu like symptoms kicking in not the best day to weigh but still in place of 84.6KG I weighed in at 84.5KG. A massive loss of 100 grams!

So has giving up sweets made me feel better at least? Well 100% yes! I must say I am not looking to lose weight (except for from my mid section) but more to feel better in some of my certain pairs of jeans and this has been 100% archived.

Giving up sweets has been god for my skin and my comfort in skinny leg jeans and work attire in general. I have to say chocolate and 2/3pm snack time at work when you sit all day at a computer/work station has a lot to answer for.

After September (aside from my US holiday) I am aiming to have sweet free week days and allow myself treats only on the weekends.

Sugar is addictive like caffeine and other drugs. So why not try for a month or a period to kick the habit and feel better in ones clothes.

Until tomorrow for another Spring tip, happy School Holidays x

Another Day Closer to G'day USA

As my holiday nears and my Spring Boot Camp winds down I take time to reflect on the fact that I will be living it up in the USA in a few weeks.

To say I am happy to leave Australia for a few weeks is an understatement. Don't get me wrong I am as much of a part of "Team Australia" as anyone I just don't understand why people can't just get along?

Why do we trust publications like the Daily Telegraph for our daily fix of the news? It's hardly news but just a paper now which would be better served for wrapping old school (not the fancy shit) Fish & Chips.

My one true belief is that if you are good to others and where possible can help someone else in need you do so. That is what it's like in any team, Team Australia or otherwise. I also have a personal aim to make at least one other person laugh (or if they are a tough nut (I almost dropped the C bomb but it's a little early for that language) ) at least crack a smile.

Today I did that before 6:30am by hitting on a straight man. He laughed/smirked and my mission for the day is almost achieved.

Daily I also like to source out the truth and read multiple publications and watch various TV content. Last night I was disgusted at Big Brother's elimination process (so where some online media sites this morning) and beyond impressed with the dreamy Veronica Milsom's Back Seat Drivers.

Veronica a talented ABC personality across the JJJ network and now bringing a show about real Australians talking about real issues. Like "Growing Up" and the result super funny. However it won't get the numbers Big Brother or the Block got last night and people will continue to walk around/channel surf aimlessly and not discover/unearth quality content.

As a nation I feel we are growing content with things being Average. The younger generation has grown up believing music is free or discovered on a reality show, movies are all about superheros or franchises and TV is wall to wall reality or illegally downloaded.

In a world of so much content and so much variety, various US channels giving us the Golden Age of TV with shows like Dexter, Six Feet Under, True Blood, The Walking Dead all achieving instant classic status.

Music has become "get your song on a TV ad or promo" and you are set. Moby going back years ago licensed nearly all his tracks from his breakthrough album "Play" to appear on a sea of ads. The album was played alongside Norah Jones debut in nearly every cafe and his album grew more and more popular.

Unfortunately with reality shows like the Voice, X Factor and Australia's Got No Talent left cause it's been cancelled Australian musicians have to get there music out their the best the can. Thank god for Sia, Iggy & 5 Seconds of Summer getting careers in the USA bringing the spotlight onto the world stage.

When acts like Minaj can use her tricks for only so long (we have seen what has happened to Gaga - cameos in Sin City and low, low album sales) before becoming the butt (no pun intended Minaj) of everyone's jokes.

So in-concluding today's essay a trip away from it all is just what the doctor ordered.

Australia please before shouting three world slogans ("Stop the Boats", "Axe the Tax") do some reading, any reading (other than the Daily Telegraph or the Australian) or if you have to restore the balance with some personal research or give the SMH or the Guardian site a look.

Australia we are smart and brimming with talent, let's not just settle for average amateurs. It's bad enough we have to settle for a clown as our leader but in the media demand to be challenged and explore what the world has to offer.

Film Freak 2014 - Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

OMG, tits and ass galore, that's what I thought for the majority of the new Sin City film staring the dreamy Joseph Gordon Levitt. Thank god for him as there was only lady candy in this film and god damn Lady Gaga getting to star opposite the dream boat.

So the new Sin City film, it's been getting average reviews, titled a sexist blood bath and a lot of other things. Yes the girls are always wearing something on the sexy side, yes it violent but man it's fun. The violence is in such a comic book fashion, it's hardly offensive and sometimes it's even just moving shadows.

The world Sin City creates is creepy as fuck but still not far from what Kings Cross or other seedy parts of Sydney are like. If you remove the traffic from Parramatta Road it's just brothels and run down shit businesses for as far as the eye can see.

Not really a great film for the School Holidays but hey us adults (and I use that term loosely about myself) need a good piece of escapism too.

Ok so a film with a great cast and Eva Green almost always naked is going to at least pass in my book. It's no perfect, it most certainly is not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed it for a bit of a cheap and cheerful Tuesday entertainment.

It's not gonna win any awards nor will it kill it at the box office against the likes of Maze Runner & Frozen returning to the cinema in time for the holidays, but it's a solid effort, rating 2.75 blood drenched well rehearsed death scenes by a sharp ass sword of doom.

Christie Whelan-Browne is... One of the most talented...

Person I have seen on stage! Let's just say this woman has way more talent & personality in her little toe than the entire cast of Big Brother 2014. This woman completely blew my mind yesterday afternoon at the dreamy Riverside Theatre in Sydney's Parramatta.

I always love a drive down Vicky Rd to Parramatta to see friends, catch a film or just see that multiculturalism does work. Sorry Piers Akerman a conservative Australia is a backwards and past Australia. Technology has happened, Global Warming IS happening and science is real. Sorry the Australian Liberal Party and the Right Wing animals at the Daily/Sunday Telegraph. Your wrong insulting and Tony Abbott not since John Howard has this country been on such a shocking path as it is now under your vile rule. Dude your one long running unfortunate joke.

Enough about that (I do apologies but the New Limited papers in Sydney are completely out of control - to my muslim and friends who are not christians - you fucking rock and I love you and what is going on the in the media is nothing short of disgusting. Bias is the news is terrible and News Limited you all should be ashamed of yourself) now to the fabulously talented Christie Whelan-Browne. Honey your one hell of a star.

Britney Spears: The Cabaret is just a wonderful 70 minutes of highs and lows of the troubled career of a once bright star Ms Britney Spears. It's hard to believe when Baby One More Time came out life was going to take such a shocking path for this young star.

Not only is she shit hot so is her dreamy husband who is currently on stage with Strictly Ballroom the Musical.

So that said this couple is a hot power couple, love it.

Now back to the show, it's funny, touching and Whelan-Browne's voice is to die for. When singing Womanizer she was BRILLIANT!

From "Stronger" to "I'm a Slave 4 U" and even "Everytime" this was just outstanding. I have not seen something so wonderful in a super long time. Unfortunately this is all done for Sydney now but this woman is a powerhouse, she looks amazing (and even in some light and angels - a dead ringer for Ms Spears), she sounds amazing and damn girl you have comic timing down pat.

You are outstanding Christie Whelan-Browne, only thing is I am slightly jealous you are with Rohan LOL

Now onto something that is making me super happy this week. The Doctor is on holidays at TRIPLE J, HOORAY! Better news, the super cute Ronny Chieng and Legally Brown dude Nazeem Hussain will be hosting each day next week 3pm - 5:30pm! How excitement, they do this great skit together the real Taxi Drivers of Melbourne:

That's it for today, until next time, laterssssssss

Film Freak 2014 - Step Up All In

So it's School Holidays time again and pimple faced infested teens are at the cinemas looking for a few hours to kill (whilst still checking into Social Media) so it's a perfect time to release the 5th instalment of Step Up.

Step Up All In is based in one of my favourite US cities Las Vegas and was one of my destinations last year. If you read my earlier post I will be in the US again in approximately 3 weeks.

This film has done remarkably well in the US and overall it's nearly done $100,000,000 at the box office. Not bad when it's against another couple of School Holiday/release date teen films: The Maze Runner & The Giver.

This film reunites a few different cast members from the former films. Look we are five films into this series and I think it still has legs for a 6th film. The last picture set in Miami was ace (despite the average story line) and this film is the same, the acting and storyline is dull but the choreography is on point.

It's really wonderful the way the music, the dancing and a smoking hot cast all work so well together.

Look it's never going to win awards nor get critical acclaim but this little online critic says this is OK by me, it's mind numbing easy on the eye fun. I hope a 6th film gets made as I am a strong believer their is more fuel in this dance tank.

Step Up All In, the city, the dancing, the divine dancers earn this baby 3.5 booty dropping stars.

Around Three Weeks to USA

Flights booked, accommodation on the way and car hire getting did. Yes soon it's time to have the second overseas experience for 2014. I can't wait. I have saved hard this year and worked hard (+ smashed it at Boot Camp) so the time has come.

That said it's the weekend and if you want to check out some damn hot new jams I have posted some killer new releases on my other BLOG.

On another note I am super stoked GOTHAM is about to start and here is hoping my one new TV show I am excited for starts soon. However as previously posted some amazing shows return to the screens soon and currently three of mine and my man's US Summer shows lives hang in the balance:

Devious Maids
Mistresses (US)
Dallas (2012 Remake)

If all of these vanish from our screens what will me and my boo watch? It seems the US is hell bent on superhero shows, sci fi shows and CSI style shows. What happened to all the simple drama shows?

Anyway I will keep you posted RE: my reaction to Gotham early next week. Also hopefully it's the weekend so it means Film time! So check in over the weekend or early next week.

Until then, Happy Saturday folks x

God Help Sydney Festival - Vivid has a Winner already

I will do my Real Sydney Festival list again for 2015 as I have found after many years of so so programming for the Sydney Festival, it's better if I just list some of the top notch shit happening around town during the premium Summer month of January.

In the meantime a fabulous compilation came out a few years back called Here Lies Love, now it's a stage show and if the below trailer is anything to go by it's going to be simply brilliant.

Vivid, I am overly impressed by this very early announcement and what more than a disco musical such as this during our cold Sydney Winter.

This is good programming and finally I am happy to say a Festival on the up taking risks and providing entertainment over a less crowded period could pay massive dividends. Well done Vivid, top marks. Sydney Festival I am waiting to see what obscure nonsense you program for 2015. Remember the general public in Sydney likes to be outdoors enjoying the magic Summer this city delivers and do not appreciate the dull, long and dreary dark plays indoors whilst one can enjoy warm sunlight until 8pm.

Stay tuned to Flashing off the Record as Laneway and Field Day are also set to get announced shortly.

New Shows incoming

Here is what I am looking forward to checking out:

GOTHAM - Season 1, this looks like the best of the new shows and with 8 million YouTube views for the trailer this should be big.

THE BLACKLIST - Season 2, will it be a smash hit the second time around?

HOMELAND - Season 4, can this show turn around and still be relevant?

THE WALKING DEAD - Season 5, will the body count (of living and dead) continue to rise at a rapid pace? Who will live? And apparently 12 seasons are planned for this show and a spin off set to begin in 2015.

Film Freak 2014 - Into the Storm

To say the start of this film was ultra dull would be an understatement. The first 20 minutes filled with bad acting and some very dull and dreary plot lines was an effort to get through. However once the storm special effects kicked in it was a much improved film.

To say this film would loose it's intensity at home and on a smaller screen loose a lot, I would be lying. To be honest I would have been second screening within five minutes and I would have been lost me.

To say I am sounding slightly grumpy with this film is mostly true. The effects were world class and fun but the rest of the movie surrounding the storm moments were just terrible. The YouTube cross references and filming angels from cast whilst about to be blown away was just a bit shit.

This is an average disaster movie at best.

None of the cast at all excited me and like Felony yesterday I did not care for a single person in tho film.

OK so it's another 2 Star film.

Film Freak 2014 - Felony

Released originally at the Toronto International Film Festival, Australian thriller Felony starring and written by the extremely talented Joel Edgerton is now screening at selected cinemas and selected screenings. Yes it's down to the dire screening times, i.e. 10am and 9pm.

I'm always banging on about Australian films getting the raw end of the stick for screenings but after a few weeks out this film has done OK in comparison to recent Aussie outings.

Now to the film, to be honest I left the cinema feeling like "What?", the characters were all largely unlikable (except at time Jai Courtney - who is not only handsome as fuck but tries his best to do right) but I also felt this film had a lot of potential it didn't use.

Joel Edgerton is one of the kings of Aussie cinema and I just felt like this film and it's ending where just missing something. Melissa George added little as her role as Edgerton's wife and after major international roles (and more to come) Jai Courtney was the most easy on eye and best in this film.

The ending like some of the film's plot points felt rushed (and nothing in this film was a rush - it was long) and a little incomplete.

I have to say it is not one of my favourite films of this year thus far and I won't do a David & Margaret by marking up this film, I can only manage a two star rating for this Aussie Feature.

Matt Okine is... Handsome

It was Friday night and it was Comedy time after my final wee bit of fun at Strictly Ballroom in Sydney with a cute dance class with the lovely Nadia AKA Tina Sparkle.

Now to my second stop of the evening the lovely Enmore Theatre just down from Sydney's iconic Newtown suburb.

The Enmore was bustling, and to be honest in Sydney last night we had:

Kanye West - Yeezus tour night one of two
Strictly Ballroom the Musical (as above)
The King & I

and god knows what else in the Entertainment world was going on last night. Yes Sydney has it's fair share of concerts, musicals and live entertainment on at present. Still to come:

Justin Timberlake
Robbie Williams
Miley Cyrus
Wicked - the Musical
Dirty Dancing - the Musical
Rupert - the play

And that's just a wee sample of what is to come in Sydney.

Now back to Matt. Current Breakfast co-host on Triple J with Alex Dyson and all round nice guy. I like this brand of nice guy comedians. You may remember my recent review of the super handsome Tommy Little.

Starting off the show tonight was Rhys Nicholson with a quick warm up and man he was great. He had the whole crowd warmed up for a fun night of comedy and a DVD recording of Matt Okine's recent show.

I would like to see more of Rhys and I must keep my eye out for his next upcoming show.

OK now to the main event and Matt was a good story teller and worked the room well. I love how comedians can make it seem like their lives have been to worst possible places and then have a great punchline. Matt's story about self love in the bath was fantastic if not a little awkward.

I enjoyed the show and Matt just has this great way with the crowd interacting at the right times, telling his stories and keeping the crowd in the palm of his hand for the entire. I find radio announcers/comedians have this weird, radio personality/on-stage personality. I guess cause you can;t say "pov cunts" on national radio.

That said make sure you get a chance to catch the handsome Matt Okine across this fine brown land or catch him on the occasional Legally Brown sketch, like the one below:

PS how cute is Ronny Chieng in this clip? Enjoy the weekend all x

How is it already almost the weekend again..

After another busy week life takes us head on into the weekend and this weekend I will be bringing the party in at Sydney's Enmore Theatre with one half of Triple J's breakfast Mr Matt Okine. Tickets are still available now for this show and he will take the stage at 8:45pm.

So here's a look at the week gone:

MONDAY

Conquered another boot camp and continued a run of a sweet and almost sugar free September. Caught up with a very underwhelming finale of new series The Leftovers.

The show had a good start and I was intrigued to start with but like the finale of True Blood, I was left a little let down.

TUESDAY

It was off to the Movies as reviewed below, I do love some childish fun. Why can't everything be solved by a poo or boob joke.

WEDNESDAY

Boot camp and 6am starts is starting to kill me and fuck could I kill for a wee piece of cake. I learnt that Back Seat Drivers on ABC TV is one of my new favourite shows and my lady crush on Veronica Milsom goes further than my love for her on the J's.

THURSDAY

Hump day tick, sushi train tick and one more boot camp in the morning and one day at work before some live Comedy, and here is hoping I can check out a film or two and drop some more random posts over the weekend.

Night folks..

Film Freak 2014 - Inbetweeners 2

What can one say, I say the first film (after never seeing the series on TV or DVD) and laughed out loud on a packed plane. And possibly this could be the best place to see a film of this nature.

Yes a packed public place is the best way to experience this pure filth. Yes it's been bagged by the critics, it appeals to 14 year old boys with lot's of used tissues on their bedroom floors (with no colds in sight) and also happens to appeal to me.

This is good old fashion, shit, piss and pussy comedy. I had a blast and so did the three others with me. Yes it was tight ass Tuesday but what a full session. This $10 film of the week really struck a chord with the audience.

It's hard to say what sells and what makes people buy a ticket to the movies these days and let's be honest gross out comedies always seem to pack em in.

So the Inbetweeners 2 how does it rate? Well the Water Park scenes were fun and it's always funny watching a country try and take the piss out of us Aussies. Look it's definitely not for everyone but I give it a laugh out loud, cringe a wee bit and maybe never look at wee the same 3 stars.

New Feature Album Tomorrow

On Flashing off the Record, last week we celebrated the great debut from Vance Joy, this week another solo act will be featured but who? A clue look at the wallpaper and try and make out the cover???

Also early this AM pre boot camp I loaded the first of my Spring Music Lists. Have a look each Monday when I give you (dear music lovers) a wee music list each Monday for the next few weeks.

This week I am hoping to:

Check out the Inbetweeners 2 film, see a bit of comedy and Kanye is in town. So here is hoping I get to check out the Yeezus!

I mentioned I am doing Sugar free/Sweet free September and to be as honest as I can with you dear readers I want to take you on my journey. I will weight myself throughout and at the end of the month and you will hopefully see some progress. Last night was my first weight in.

Well to be exact, 84.6KG, so let's see where I end up in a few weeks.

I also have to thank my lovely boot camp teachers who have all been fab this season again, Hilary, Pete, Hulia, Dylan & Mark....

Until next time folks, I just want to say how sad I was to hear about Simone Battle from the group G.R.L

You were a fab contestant on the US X Factor and part of an extremely successful group. May you rest in peace sweet girl. It's been a sad week for some lovely ladies from the entertainment industry this week.

My thoughts are with Battles and Rivers respective families xo

Film Freak 2014 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles {Advance Australian Screening}

So I was lucky enough to walk a Green Carpet today and have the real Royal treatment with free Pizza supplied by Pizza Hut, special 3D glasses, water and popcorn. Love youse at Paramount.

But now to the film, it has had terrible reviews but had 2 sequels already green lit and Megan Fox is on every Sydney breakfast radio show in the upcoming week. However at the premiere she seemed a little disinterested in the whole affair. Wait to see meets Fitzy and Wippa. FML those two make listing to Australian X Factor live performances seem enticing.

Look Michael Bay did make the truly terrible Transformers 4 (even poor old Marky Mark and his sexy swagger didn't stand a chance in this piece of scrap) so this is a vast improvement. I must say I was a total TMNT fan as a child. I loved the shit out of my TMNT toys.

I remember me and my primary school mate AJ playing for hours as ninja turtles and loving April.

I am hoping however the sequels get more into decent story lines rather than just a lot of back story. I know the darker new TMNT needs to set the story, but it felt (even a better running time than the overly long Transformer franchise) had not much of a plot happening.

The action sequences were wonderfully choreographed and the action film must have car chase/snow scene was well done and a lot of fun.

OK so look unfortunately it's not the action film of 2014 but its a cut above the Expendables 3, but a little less inspiring than The Guardians of the Galaxy. Whereas Galaxy looked shit in the trailer and I expected nothing, I was expecting something from this and I think it just didn't quite deliver.

I have to be honest beloved readers 2.75 troubled teens and hopefully some growing pains will bring a better sequel.

Film Freak 2014 - If I Stay

It's time for another "Fault of all Stars" teenage girl film for all the young girls get together to go see in the masses. Get their tissues together and discover the wonderful Smashing Pumpkins back catalogue. And maybe even get a wee bit moist over Jamie Blackley.

But how does this novel turned big screen flick work out?

Chloe Grace Moretz is fabulous as Mia the young lady in this "leave your brain at the door and stuff yourself full of popcorn type film". Nothing is wrong with this film, they use music quite a lot to create mood and show off the talents of the two young lovers.

I enjoyed the film (a little drawn out in parts) and went along with it all but like the teenage hookers in front of me the end ing was a little abrupt. It was just like BANG, roll credits.

Oh well it was a little lengthy and you did get an end result however I would have liked a little more closure. But hey this is set out for teenagers who if they go 15 minutes without sending a seflie, checking what boring shit their friends (or FB friends) are up to or sending a nude pic up to the cloud it is a real miracle.

This is one for the under 25's though, older folk may really get bored with it. However I throughly enjoyed it and totally enjoyed some Saturday escapism. 3.75 Stars.

R.I.P Joan Rivers

One of my greatest regrets is not seeing you when you toured as part of Mardi Gras a few years back. You always make me laugh and I think in 2014 laughter and not taking life TOO seriously is so important.

Joan you will be missed and all my thoughts are with your family x

From Alan Jones to Hawaii

Yes mid October all things going to plan I should be in Hawaii, potentially San Francisco & Portland in October. So excited. Yes that is next month. So I will take a break on complaining about the shock jocks in Sydney, the poor way Australia is being handled and move on out to America for a brief break. And also a wardrobe update cause basically who can afford Australian prices.

Sorry Aussie retailers, you have been fucking us five ways for years with mark ups so I choose to shop overseas.

So I will start a holiday countdown shortly and I am not sure what my topic will be but I should possibly leave Music to my other BLOG Flashing off the Record. Which this week I have a week long feature on our Album of the Week, Vance Joy's debut record.

The record is out online and in store on Friday.

A big thanks to the lovely Dylan and Hilary too for Boot Camp, so nice to be back and be sugar (ish) free.

Chat tomorrow, OK?

Alan Jones.

Musical Theatre is a funny place and when far right leaning Liberal bias 2GB shock jock (what rhymes with shock jock - MASSIVE COCK) Alan Jones gets cast in a musical (a second musical) life is a little weird.

Alan Jones is one of Sydney's most loved/hated radio announcers. He is largely loved by people who love to hate and hated by those who believe in fair and balanced broadcasting. On a few sites their has been much distaste to his casting in Anything Goes.

Renamed on Musical Theatre BLOG Anything Blows this could be the case. Jones is loathed in many circles and Opera Australia isolated gay fans this year by hiring and then firing a homophobe. But time will tell Alan Jones does have the power on the Upper North Shore, like Joe Hockey & others who live there they are rich enough to drive and own "cars". Possibly even rich and white enough to pay for the price of parking and a glass of cask wine at the House.

Now why I am writing this? Well I again feel that after working with actors and people who call the arts home it is extremely sad to see someone not short of a buck stealing an older actors dream role and run of dates in multiple cities.

It's not easy for actors (particularly in Australia) you either need to make it big Alan Jones style via being a powerful white man or work your ass off and have real talent Hugh Jackman style. Alan Jones has neither talent nor class, he provokes hatred and wants a frightening and conservative Australia much like our vile PM.

I hope people give this one a miss when it hits the stage in 2015, the creative Australians need a break and casting mates of high powered industry folk is helping no one, particularly other struggling musical theatre wannabes.

Reality TV and Australian names like Jones will mean more talented Australians head abroad and I wish they would take me with them.

It's Sweet n Sugar Free (not like a crazy person though) September (AGAIN)

FML, and fuck my neck for making me miss Lady Gaga last night. By all accounts though she was good, just the crowd size needed a little adding to.

Here we go again a month without treats, FML!
