Hamlet - Last Night @ The Seymour Centre

I have never been a mega Shakespeare fan but I really enjoyed some Friday night old School Shakespeare done by a relatively new company - Sport for Jove.

The 100 minute straight through version of Hamlet was a real hit with the crowd, filled with Shakespeare fans, school students and theatre buffs alike.  The near full venue made for a nice evening of fine theatre.

The sets were minimal, the cast were great and the version (according to people I heard talking) was a great version of the Shakespeare classic.  I believe this is the first version of Hamlet I have seen I am sure I saw Macbeth as a school student but that was many moons ago.

Being a BIG week of theatre this week I actually enjoyed this more than the long "Death of a Saleman" and next week I am excited to say I will be seeing "The Mousetrap" which should be ready for review late next week.  Hamlet was a fun night out and a good time was had by the crowd which the leads interacted well with.

Hamlet rates an old school 3.5 stars for an enjoyable evening at the Theatre.

10 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

We are almost down to single digits and the last double digit tune is a collabration of epic Aussie proportions!

Yes it's the new one by Urthboy "Naive Bravado", it features the lovely Daniel Merriweather (who has been teaming with Aussie's a lot lately including The Bamboos) and this song is dope!  I like it, Daniel's vocals work really well with this tune.

And good news on this Saturday there is a video to boot too!  I will get to that soon!

Also it's time for this for the last double digit time:

10 DAYS TILL I GET MY SHORT SHORTS ON FOR THE STREETS OF BANGKOK!

Now for the video for your Saturday!  Happy Saturday all and let's celebrate Urthboy back on the solo scene and making great new music.

Also the last two days saw TWO mega releases, what do you think of new music from the Presets and Muse?  I love the Presets, but have thought Muse have been on the downward spiral for a while now and this song is just wrong town.  Let's check them both out below, happy NEW music Saturday!

That's all kids....

@ the Movies 2012 - Ted

Oh Mark Wahlberg, you have dones some seriously awesome films over the years and of course who could forget his fab music career, but Ted is not one of those perfect movies.

Ted is a random film which really lacks direction and good comedy.  The fart jokes and smut are a bit average, if your going to be gross take a leaf out of That's my Boy with Adam Sandler.  If your going to do a sex comedy make sure it's dirty, cause I am not here for a hair cut.

The good things about Ted, there isn't much but Mark Wahlberg continues to keep his sexy on.  At 41 he sure still is a tight stud.

The movie is way too long and the story lines are a little average at best.  Mila Kunis is also good in her part and Ryan Reynolds has a cute gay cameo.

Other than that I can't really say run out and see the advance screenings this weekend or when it opens next week.  I think the new Spiderman will smash this half baked adult comedy.

2 stars.

11 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

Hot Chip have released their 5th album earlier thi month and the lead single "Night & Day" was a real banger! I like to cut a rug to this tune as it is fun, so easy to push the coffee table across the floor and make a shit hot dance floor so you can lose yo shit to this ditty.

"Night & Day" and ""In our Heads" from Hot Chip proves these kids are here to stay and continue to kill it in the indie dance scene.

To be truthfully honest with you I can't think of a better tune to bring in the weekend and this brings in the weekend with an almighty BANG!

11 DAYS TILL I KEEP MY GAY UNDERCOVER AS IT"S DUBAI TIME!

Now y'all get ready for the fun video:

Skip the ad on the video, fuck I hate ad's on youtube, if I wanted ads I would watch the Block for an hour and get 15 minutes of a dodgy piece of reality rubbish and 45 minutes of really bad ads.

Enjoy your weekends and read the BLOG it's gonna have a heap of reviews n shit.

I'm out!

A Night @ the Theatre with theatre stars and industry types

Yes another Belvoir Street opening night rolls around this time and this time it's time for Death of a Salesman. There is a lot of hype for this play and some saying this is the play to save their awful season thus far. They pull out the big guns with Colin Friels and Genevieve Lemon as the leads and they do a great job. Colin is great but by the end you really hate his character (well I did, I mean he is just so desperate and so useless) but I mean some people may like him. Maybe it's a hetro male thing with his pride and the way he carries on, however Colin carries the character well and makes this watchable despite it being long.

The rest of the cast are also watchable and make for an enjoyable evening of theatre, I did however drift off a bit making me think a Saturday matinee would be more enjoyable.

This play is super famous and I think done well in direction by Simon Stone. The car on the stage is a little dull for the only piece of set so someone listed as a set designer is a bit rich, I want that job. Yes I'll have a car on stage and that is my set, look how fucking rad I am.

Oh it's art, it's theatre and it's enjoyable, Death of a Saleman rates 3 stars.

12 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

So it’s now the exact two week mark and my bags are starting to fill and it is getting harder to pick the last few songs in my mixed bag of goodies for the 2012 tunes that ROCK! So today is a new one from Sydney, NSW it's the Rubens.  Last year they blew our minds with "Lay it Down" and now they have the terrific "Don't Ever Want To Be Found".

This tune has a big sound from a new group and it's so good to see fresh new Australian music.

The guys have also been good enough to get a video together!

What a song, what a day and with less than two weeks until my final boarding call it's getting a tad exciting in downtown Chippendale.

12 DAYS TILL I PLAY WITH MY NEW iPAD OVERSEAS AND HOPEFULLY LEARN TO SKYPE!

NU MUSIC - Cheryl - A Million Lights

Cheryl opens up her third full length release with a stomping break up sing along in "Under the Sun" with massive production from Alex da Kid, this will also be the second single from the release. Cheryl's last album first up she was called Cheryl Cole but after a messy divorce she has dumped the Cole and is now just Cheryl, like Madonna, like Kylie, like Dannii, it's now just Cheryl. Her last album "Messy Little Raindrops" was actually just a mess, random collaborations, no real stand out tracks, but Cheryl has already fixed this by coming out with the banger, "Call my Name".

Produced & writtern by Calvin Harris, "Call my Name" has hit number one in the UK, been on my IPOD since it's release and Cheryl has done some epic live performances of this tune. "Call my Name" is a guilty pop pleasure that is pure bliss. Her vocals are sharp and killer, the production is full of big brash beats it's just epic and it sounds like some summertime good times on a dance floor somewhere near you.

After the epic explosion of "Call my Name" and the more I hear the more I like "Under the Sun" comes a collection of songs that I can't really say much about. Cheryl has worked with everyone from Lana Del Ray to her favourite Will.i.am and newcomer Wretch 32, she has great producers but the album just doesn't gel. The two singles from the album particularly "Call my Name" are strong but it pretty much ends there. Her Girls Aloud days are long gone and her solo persona needs to be explored, she could totally be the next dance diva but then she retreats and does this random pop ballads. The Will.i.am tune is unfortunately the most disappointing "Craziest Things", the silliest title of the album is "Sexy Den a Mutha".

I was looking forward to this album on the back of "Call my Name", the live performances of the said tune were awesome particularly The Voice UK. Cheryl is a great personality, she has been a great judge on the US and the UK X Factor, she just needs this to shine through on her albums.

On the basis of "Call My Name" this is still a good but not great pop album, I am looking forward to her next record because I think Cheryl is definitely getting better with age and dropping her past life with losing that surname.  You want A Million Lights there is it :)

13 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

So we have hit the under two week mark and things are heating up!  Yes I can wear shorts again real soon!  Let's get into today's hump day tune selection.

How is it that an artist can keep churning out albums but not hit the big time when he has had some big tunes, i.e. “Wearing my Rolex”, “Cash in My Pocket”, “Boom Blast” and “Numbers in Action”. However I am here today to celebrate in the less than 2 week countdown till the BIG holiday Wiley’s “I’m Skankin’, amazing title and this is the 2 Bears remix. I have long loved Wiley, saw him along with around 15 others at an empty Metro Theatre years back and now he is getting somewhere and will be here for Parklife later this year when it’s warmer and more enjoyable.

As I close down on this countdown let’s embrace some dance-pop-hip hop mix. This is totally fun and a great way to get closer to the big take off date.

13 DAYS TILL I AM DIVIDING EVERYTHING BY 30 TO MAKE SURE I AM GETTING A BARGIN T-SHIRT!

Let’s also take in some more Wiley fun with the great Boom Blast video and some old school fun times from his previous releases, WILEY!

@ the Movies 2012 - Rock of Ages

Musicals into films, cancelled musicals into films, do they work and can they work on the big screen? Dreamgirls didn’t, Hairspray (less Zac Efron bored me to death) & The Sapphires just looks simply brilliant (fingers and toes crossed this is the film that will sort out the Aussie film world!).

Tom Cruise is great in this and so is the remainder of the cast, Catherine Zeta Jones is a real stand out in her scenes and Mary J Blige, well it’s great to see her at it again, what a voice!

Now to the film, okay I love cock rock and I love a bit of male singlet and rocking out to eleven action and when the songs kick in it is a cross between Glee and a bogan rock gig (i.e. Bon Jovi). The songs really work and the acting in between is fine, the good looking cast really helps. Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin have a nice relationship and the two leads excel around all the Hollywood royalty.

Will Rock of Ages be one of the top films of 2012, hell no, but will it be one of those film experiences you look back at and think, gosh that was fun. Rock of Ages was cancelled in Sydney as a musical but as a film I think this is just ace (to quote Aussie rockers Grinspoon) and rates a Tom Cruise worthy 4 stars. Rock out y’all!

Now here is some tight ass Tuesday eye candy :)

14 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

So it’s now the exact two week mark and my bags are starting to fill and it is getting harder to pick the last few songs in my mixed bag of goodies for the 2012 tunes that ROCK! So today is a new one from Lupe Fiasco and it is just great. It’s new but makes a mark the first time you hear it. It is climbing up the Australian iTunes chart currently and is gaining lot’s of radio attention and rightfully so!

Fiasco is a tour bandit and does release a good tune every now and then and this is up there with “Kick Push”. I really want his next album to smash it as he is so worth it, great beats, lyrically a cut above your Chris Brown’s, Pitbulls and Willow Smith’s.

Lupe is here to stay and I’m not, the holiday countdown gets MEGA real now so look out, final gift registries etc and the full FAT 50 list coming soon. Also coming more film reviews that you can poke a stick at and a little bit more educated high brow theatre as Sydney is in a MEGA theatre flood.

PS there is a totally naughty language warning on this one.

14 DAYS TILL I HOPEFULLY CHECK OUT EDINBURGH CASTLE, EDINBURGH ZOO & THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF SCOTLAND

Till next time, peace out......

15 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

Released only mid last month this is my one and only trashy pop guilty pleasure of this countdown or more like a list of songs that have given 2012 an identity and it comes from Ms Cheryl Cole, or is it just Cheryl these days?

I recently ran a super producer piece on the wonderful and super talented Calvin Harris. Calvin has now four big singles for his next album and he has also helped Cheryl out with this banger, CALL MY NAME. Yes it's summer pop at it's best with a big chorus a great beat and some really awesome pop lyrics. I am interested in Cheryl Cole as she has a major working relationship with Will.iam, she is divorced to a sexy footballer, she has judged on both the US and UK X Factor shows and been in girl group Girls Aloud. So let's just say bitch has been around the block.

Now this song is heaps of hella good fun so tune in below:

15 DAYS TILL I BARTER WITH THAI BAHT FOR A CHEAP T-SHIRT

Also one last thing for today's guilty pleasure, check out Cheryl live on the Voice UK, AMAZING PERFORMANCE, Go Cheryl!

@ the Movies 2012 - Take This Waltz

What a film, what drama and what an interesting look into relationships in 2012, Sarah Polley nails this film and makes Toronto look so beautiful.  The film is filmed so nicely and acted so well this film really is going to go on my end of year list as being a supreme drama.

Michelle Williams has definitely done the best out of her former Dawson's Creek crowd and Seth Rogan is really good in this drama.  Luke Kirby is also very watchable as the man who comes between Rogan and Williams.

If your in a relationship this is not a date night film, if your in a relationship this might be an eye opener and one of those, fuck me moments.

I am going to be honest when saying this film is long but it kept me in the moment the whole 116 minute running time.  Michelle Williams was so great in this role and Seth Rogan to go from a dodgy comedy like the Green Hornet to this deep drama is a great jump.

I think this film has so much to it and I'm not telling you the story lines etc you can all get along and see this one in it's unfortunate limited release.

Take this Waltz is a waltz a lot of us have been on, 4.75 drama filled stars.

16 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

So this song was released December 30, 2011, 2 days outside my 2012 date range, but hey a song that turns the drama up to 11, it's Elizabeth Woolridge Grant or better known as Lana Del Ray. The song is the title track to her breakthrough release "Born to Die".

Lana Del Ray was a HUGE hype when tune "Video Games" hit, then has actually all gone a little down hill since that live performance on SNL.

I didn't love her until I listened to the whole album a few times over, there is such good and strong production on this album. "Blue Jeans" is also a brilliant
tune, I loved "Carmen" another tune where Lana bangs on with such drama and I almost think I'm at a Shakespeare production or a Greek tragedy.

I have actually placed a bit of a remix of this tune below so ENJOY:

16 DAYS TILL I GET SOME EURO BARGAINS!

That's it, the HOLIDAY is so soon so stay tuned for a load more updates, can't wait!

A night @ the Theatre - Old Man - Belvoir Street!

Described online as:

Old Man is Matt Whittet’s extraordinary play about fathers and sons, love and loss, kindness and Newtown. It is a beautiful and shockingly simple tale in two parts, which asks if it is possible to wake up one day and make good-enough better.

It is also stated as being 72 minutes, now when I see 72 minutes I think, easy just over 1 hour and no interval so this will be an easy show, sounds interesting enough, I liked Alison Bell on ABC TV's "Laid".  Well I feel like I am winding up, cause this felt like a three hour theatre marathon.

It starts in an order manner and it finally kicks in around 30 minutes in and by then I am already thinking about what washing up I have to do at home, where I will have lunch tomorrow or why on Earth is Nurse Jackie renewed for a fifth season, the fourth season was as boring as..... well this play.

I feel now I need to be kept amused, you have a small window really, if you don't grab me, I am off with the fairies (and I'm not talking Sookie Stackhouse!) and have completely left the building.  I was so far away from the Surry Hills bunker of Belvoir Street last night it was not funny.

This is one of those nice Belvoir shows, which is nice though, no deaths, no guns, not too much language either (not that this old girl doesn't mind a good C bomb).

So I have to give Old Man which season has been extended now until my birthday hooray! a lonely 2 stars, as I just didn't connect even though I though there was nice performances and it was nice, but nice always finish last.  For more info on Old Man....

17 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

It's just over two weeks until I launch into another International excursion that will hopefully blow my mind and I will come back a mature (hell no) 30 year old individual.

So today I take in some more local hip hop, I love this tune, it's got great production, it's BIG, it's got purpose, it's real, it's Yung Warriors tune "Standing Strong".

On their website they describe themselves as The Yung Warriors are Australia’s rising Indigenous and hip hop music ambassadors.  These guys are dope and I just love this song.

17 DAYS TILL I UNTIL I ATTEMPT SOME SPANISH IN BARCELONA "HOLA GURL"

Here's the video y'all enjoy and get ya Saturday on bitches!

I'm GAGA for Lady Gaga, could I be a little Monster too?

Lady Gaga the artist who is shaping music in 2012 and beyond.  Her first album bored me shit less, her first album plus some leftover songs interested me (namely "Telephone" those who have seen my strip tease to this, know that when this tune is on, the bitch looses her shit!), then her second empowering album got me interested.

"Born this Way" the title track and lead single was gay pride 100%, it was one for all us who hated school, were bullied, are different, and "Judas" had a wicked all sorts of fucked up beat that was ace.  Then "Edge of Glory" kind of bored me but live another story.  The remainder of the album then seemed to vanish a bit.  But then came the Born this Way Ball.

And ball it was, it was almost like a fully fledged theatre show and a successful one unlike the poor Officer + a Gentleman (even that title bores me, I think I lose interest at Officer), this is full of insane sets, crazy outfits and dancers galore!

The start was epic, on a fake horse maned by her buff dancers (all of different ethnic origins) she did "Highway Unicorn" which I had never heard but enjoyed none the less.  I did cheat and look at the set list in advance.

Up next another tune I was not familiar with but still enjoyable "Government Hooker", then it happened Gaga was reborn and came out of herself (so to speak), for "Born this Way" the worlds best gay anthem ever, well maybe ever we will see what her third album brings, but unless it's called "gay gay gay I love gays", I can't see it getting much more camp.

"Born this Way" got me and most of the sold out crowd up on our feet.

By "Bad Romance" and "Judas" Gaga had the crowd eating out of her palms, by this stage I realised she is a performer, her songs not perfect, her voice not amazing, her looks (fucking weird) but her package is GOLD, she is a promoters dream, this bitch can perform and perform amazingly well, her dancers are perfect, the set flawless and the acting on stage by Gaga great.

When she did my favourite "Telephone" mid set I thought the show could not get any better but I was wrong, the night had a certain amount of magic to it, it was a very fine evening of pop music.

"Bad Kids" was a real favourite of mine, not familiar to me but so 80's fused it was FAB!  "Poker Face" and the last numbers including the encore were gold.  Her first album was so plastic pop but now she is free to release her quirky tunes which is good.

Gaga is here to stay I think, well at least for a while, she plays Allphones Arena for two nights over the weekend and is well worth seeing, if your not a fan (like me) this could be a game changer for you.  Gaga is a FIVE star pop effort, well done and thanks for a memorable night @ the theatre.

18 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

Under 20 days now till take off and my oh my! After seeing the Amazing Race in Dubai, I am excited! So here is a song to pump up the volume! It's Major Lazer moving in a very different direction to their previous work, this is a slow burner but still a BANGER!

Major Lazer's Get Free (feat. Amber of Dirty Projectors) is ACE, it's the perfect Friday tune to get your weekend started and ready to rumble in the winter madness!

19 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

The homeward stretch is here and we have only 20 more songs together, it's been a long and fun ride, with 2012 being a pretty good year for music, despite only one

nomination for the BLOG's album of 2012 there has been some hits (and misses if you count the Voice covers) and today is a BIG one.

Everyone has been Waiting and finally 5 years on Missy Higgins has released her most recent disc The Ol' Razzle Dazzle, a great album and a great live show (scroll through for my recent review). The song I am choosing from the release is "Everyone's Waiting", it's just perfect Missy with some songs from The Ol' Razzle Dazzle being a bit of a departure from her old stuff.

This album is already gold selling and did a couple of weeks at the top spot, nice!

Missy is definitely an album artist and I think her days of high selling singles are over but this album really is killer.

Check out the audio below for this amazing release:

19 DAYS TILL I RUN AROUND DUBAI LIKE THE CAST OF THE AUSTALIAN AMAZING RACE!

And from the ACE folk @ the ABC here is Missy doing the song live for y'all:

Tomorrow, another day closer to my holiday another top notch tune.....

NU MUSIC - Justin Bieber | Believe

Okay so I have always been nervous about Justin Bieber but with hot producers like Diplo on board could this be as bad as most would imagine. Well yes and no, the album is so over produced and in parts my Nana could be the vocalist and it wouldn't matter as auto tune is in hyper driver. But really in 2012 do we want pop stars with great vocals (clearly not if anyone watched One Direction on the UK X Factor, these boys were never much chop) or a pop star who will put on a show. Lady Gaga, Madonna, Johnny Ruffo or Timomatic do they have great vocals and songs, well not really and Madonna's latest album has been a commercial disaster, but these performers all have one thing in common they put on a show. They are no Missy Higgins or Lisa Mitchell with meaningful songs and captivating in a small live setting, you need to see these performers on the big stage with a bigger production.

In saying this the album will please the 12 year olds out there with Justin already on their wall and Nicki Minaj on their IPOD's. Speaking of, Nicki does her rap for rent on track "Beauty and a Beat", which is an okay track with a cast of thousands writing the tune. Big Sean, the mighty Ludacris and Drake all add some hip hop swagger to the album. The big production and easy lyrics make this album listenable and almost make you feel like you are in a warm plastic place. By the final two slower tracks though you must feel these are definitely for the die hard fans as Bieber has left all the tricks of the first set of songs behind.

I am really interested to see where Justin will be in 10 years, Kylie, Prince, Madonna, Mariah and many others have had multiple decade careers, will Justin follow in their footsteps and will "Believe" be a career defining album, only time will tell and that is something at his age Justin Bieber has a lot of.

Want a piece of this, head to Justin Bieber Store and Getmusic peace!

20 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

The homeward stretch is here and we have only 20 more songs together, it's been a long and fun ride, with 2012 being a pretty good year for music, despite only one

nomination for the BLOG's album of 2012 there has been some hits (and misses if you count the Voice covers) and today is a BIG one.

Today as a duo with her brother she soars and now as a solo artist she releases her second album and the lovely "Let's Forget All The Things We Say". Yes it's Ms Julia Stone.

2012 has been a big year for the Stone brother and sister, they are both releasing solo albums, they have been embraced by many new fans. "Let's Forget All The Things We Say" is a sweet as tune with an equally classy sweet video below.

What a nice relaxing way to get through hump day.

NU MUSIC - Muscles - Manhood

After the MASSIVE singles "Ice Cream" and "Sweaty" where was Muscles to go but develop into his Manhood by putting Melbourne's electro scene back on the map, he does so opening up with the catchy "Kiss Hello" & just as this finishes a bangin' solid as beat kicks in with "Boys Become Men". I often think would Muscles be better off with some guest vocalists, Simian Mobile Disco style style, I sometimes drift off when I hear his vocals kick in and wish for maybe a Sarah McLeod or female vocal to step up to the mic, he has some diva moments in the music he makes and for an artist to stick around you need to diversify.

The single release "Ready for a Fight" is nice enough with another BIG beat with his vocals layered over the top while "Heatwave" is a possible single option for Muscles, it has a very commercial sound that could be sandwiched between a David Guetta/Nicki Minaj number and a Calvin Harris floor filler. "Brainfreeze" does exactly that it hits your head hard like you had drunk too much slurpie too quick at the latest Step Up movie.

It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since his last effort, back in 2007 music was so different the top selling albums of that year came from the likes of Avril Lavigne, Amy Winehouse, The Eagles (WTF) and Alicia Keys. Justin Timberlake was one of the biggest selling solo artists and Kanye West got stronger and a whole lot more commercially accepted. 2012 has seen the explosion of next big things, One Direction (bringing boy bands back), Dance gets a new king with Avicii and indie cool kids are all over Lana Del Ray. Where will we be for Muscles next release and where will music be at.

The very early single release of "Girl Crazy Go" gives you a midway "I Know this banger" and it has aged well and fits well next to tunes like "The Night", which at track seven if you think an album has an identity or a personality this album would be an 18 year old boy or girl wearing fluoro and getting pumped about this years Parklife line up. /Muscles gets his Australiana on with some homage to our most lovely cuddly animal the Koala on the later part of the album. "Koala" has some massive "let's get those disco sticks out" moments and builds well, I have a feeling the tail end of the album is were all the gems are hidden as "Just Breathe" is also a great little tune.

Tracks 10-12 round out the album and show this album has been worth the wait, how long will Muscles appeal last, maybe at least until the new Presets record drops.

Muscles shows us his Manhood, a solid collection of dancefloor fillers, will you cut a rug to this?

Buy Muscles’ album Manhood from Getmusic – out now.

21 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

It's less than a month, it's getting time to pack my bags, I am starting to make lists of what I want to do and buy and I am into the homeward stretch of bringing you some killer new sounds that are shaping the year that is 2012. I have gone from Skrillex to Xavier Rudd, Gossling to Bleeding Knees Club and beyond.

A Sydney lady MC has killed it in 2012 and she is my choice for today, yes Ms Sky'High AKA Skhai Gerrey, has released a BIG album "Forever Sky'High". Her tune "Let's Just" is catchy fun, a bit of a flirt and a whole lot of good times!

I dig this tune a lot and think Ms Sky'High has got the goods with more dope tunes to drop. Check it out below and get DOPE with me.

21 DAYS TILL I GET SOME THAI CULTURE ON!

Happy to say finally we have some video action for my countdown! Enjoy it on this Tight Arse Tuesday!

22 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

How great is Kate Miller Heidke? That is not a rhetorical question, she just blows my mind, from first listen to her track "Space They Cannot Touch" from her debut EP all the way back in 2004. I love this woman and her voice, now THIS IS THE VOICE.

Kate Miller Heidke has released 3 full albums and multiple EP's now, she is established in the industry and featured in musicals (well if Jerry Springer the Musical can be considered a serious musical, featured on Q&A multiple times (much to Anthony Callea's disliking) and been featured on the end of year charts several times over.

The song I choose from her most recent release "Nightflight" is "Sarah", an album cut and a spooky tune. I love the haunting vocals, I love the way the track makes you feel like you know what Kate is feeling in the song.

I have placed the audio below for y'all to lap up on this Monday of a full working week!

A Night @ the Theatre - Truck Stop

What a solid cast of four great women (well some just girls or young ladies!), Kristy Best, Elena Carapetis, Eryn Jean Norvill & Jessica Tovey all outstanding.  Particularly Eryn Jean Norvill the blond "bitch" in this show.

I attended on a night my father pointed out a number of Home and Away kids were in the crew, an added bonus for a) my father and b) the group of schoolies in front of me.  Good grief how can my father really be addicted to Home and Away and make my poor mother record Masterchef and watch it when it suits him, the injustice.

Okay I'm here to review a play so let's hit it.  Rihanna and Ke$ha fans unite, this play is a total homage to how listening to this music, viewing the music videos it does play on young girls minds.  Ke$ha is a five star harlot really at the end of the day and is it any surprise her fans start blowing truckies for some cash to spend in the city after the long train ride from the West.

I went to the Ke$ha concert last year and it was one of the biggest eye openers in my life, one word SCARY!

Okay so the four make this play so watchable, you relate to them (we all had our slutty years), you feel for them and this play covers so much of how hard as a teen it must be to grow up.  I mean I finished high school at the end/early 2000's and it was hard them, particularly as a gay.  But as an Indian student, a young girl from the West or a counsellor out in Sydney's seedy Western Suburbs.

Life is hard in 2012, their is global money issues, jobs are hard to get and harder to keep, people are stressed and life in general is just hard. And this play perfectly captures this and beyond.  Lachlan Philpott has done a simply wonderful job here, I can't flaw it at all.  No interval worked amazingly well as this would have just broken tension and I feel lost the audience.

Truck Stop does not have much of a run left so catch it before it closes here

Parents need to see this (mine did), students should see this as acceptance and tolerance is something very much needed in 2012 & this should open a lot of discussions.

Truck Stop is a great journey and rates 4 we are the Youth shining and pointy stars.

23 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

Today we take a step into some new Aussie house music from Romy! Romy Hoffman used to be known as Macromantics and former member of Ben Lee’s 1990s teenage rock band Noise Addict. She lived in Sydney until a recent move to Melbourne and name change back to her first name and this is how HOME came about.

This song is perfect for the gym, exercise in the park and dancing up a storm and maybe even cutting a rug. I hope you enjoy today's pick Romy's Home is sick as.

@ the Movies 2012 - That's My Boy

Oh Adam Sandler you re a card!

With a great little cast and I mean GREAT, the highly handsome Andy Samberg, Susan Sarandon, Leighton Meester & Vanilla Ice.  What a diverse cast.

The movie as you can imagine is nothing high brow and really is set up for teenage boys who think hand job jokes are funny, but seriously who doesn't.

The movie features so much foul language and so much sex talk it's almost liking being in a Rugby League dressing room.

Did I like this movie, hell yes, the grandma was a scene stealer, Andy Samberg is great, the story just works and the bucks night is simply FAB!

So can I recommend this to everyone, NO!  And for the husband and wife in front of me who brought their new born and under 10 year old, it really made me feel Lesbians do make better parents, the poor girl kept telling her mum when is this over and covering her eyes with a pillow.  Good grief.  Some parents need a wake up call.

Anyway back to the movie, I laughed out loud, had a lot of fun and enjoyed watching my friends reaction to some of the scenes.

That's My Boy was a lot of fun, 3 horny teenage stars.

24 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

So we are under the 30 mark now and with less than a month to go I have shared some killer music with you, you have danced to Skrillex, got all indie with Best Coast, heard some damn fine local releases and today it is time to get your Aussie Hip Hop back on with Illy & "Heard It All", two BIG days of Aussie hip hop, who will take out the Urban gong @ the ARIA's in 2012!

So this will get you ready for a rude boy Saturday night. I'm off to the theatre but if your off to the club this will get you there! Illy had some massive success last year and it looks like it is set to continue with this very OZ hip hop number less the bad words. WHAT! An Aussie hip hop tune without 50 F bombs and a C bomb for good measure. Bliss N Eso hurry up and drop another dope joint.

Unfortunately there is no video for you today so just check out the cool as audio below:

25 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

So we are under the 30 mark now and with less than a month to go I have shared some killer music with you, you have danced to Skrillex, got all indie with Best Coast, heard some damn fine local releases and today it is time to get your Aussie Hip Hop back on with an Aussie producer I have already featured, it's Chasm. I featured him with Amali Ward under his dance alias as Dr Don Don.

This guy is busy releasing a new Chasm disc and also producing some top grade Dr Don Don material. Solider and a Thinker by Chasm is today's ace pick and it is mighty fine, I am really digging it and hope the rest of the album is as killer. This Sydney producer is just killing it with releases and going gang busters right now.

Unfortunately there is no video for you today so just check out the cool as audio below.

25 DAYS TILL I HIT THE WORLD FAMOUS BEACHES IN BARCELONA

26 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

This is great, Santigold's new album is a little disappointing but the tune "Pirate In The Water" is just swell. It's got great production by Diplo, the sound is great and Santigold's vocals are wicked on all sorts of levels.

Unfortunately as this is an album cut there is no video for you today so just check out the cool as audio below.

26 DAYS TILL I VISIT BARCELONA (16th-most-visited city in the world and the fourth most visited in Europe)

This is a little similar to Jack Johnson but oh so smooth and nice, Mat McHugh the front man of Beautiful Girls has released a dreamy solo album and this is one of my favourite cuts.  "Go Don't Stop" and the album in general is just an ace slice of weekend chill time, you can put this record on and just bliss the F out.

NU MUSIC - Lex Hives | The Hives Review‏

Come On chants the one minute opener on the Hives 5th studio album live and direct from Sweden. I remember discovering the Hives as I finished High School and enjoyed singing the tune "Hate to Say I Told You So", to people who I never wished to seeing again. Now the year 2012 and the Hives have delivered an album with a similar stomping nature, the first single "Go Right Ahead" on this tune, is a pub sing a long with balls. Over the years the Hives have worked with a number of producers and even stepped a little bit into the world of hip hop appearing on the Timbaland LP "Shock Value" and also the Neptunes have stepped into produce a couple of tracks along the ride.

After six minutes of listening to this you are already half way through the third tune and you know this album is not going to let up on the pace it set off from the get go. "1,000 Answers" is a perfect song it's 2:07 (almost the timing of a Bleeding Knees Club tune) and it's got a rough edge but with such polished production.

"Wait a Minute" again is another pop rock sing a long which I could so see being the next single, "Patrolling Days" felt like an extended club mix of a Hives tune as this baby clocks in over 4 minutes. In my experience with the album so far it's the short, sharp, punchy songs that work the best.

"These Spectacles Reveal the Nostalgics" is one of my highlights from the album as it standouts, with rock not being my favourite genre listening to an album in full, I find some songs just stand out and demand a bit of attention and on this disc this tune and "Go Right Ahead" are the real ball breakers and tunes that command your attention and I could totally imagine doing a spin class at the gym to this rock friendly gems. "Midnight Shifter" was in my way the perfect way to close of the album and at around 30 minutes of rock n roll, I think the Hives do not over stay there welcome. I reckon if this album packed some fillers it would become a bit dull, but with all mostly killer 2/3 minute rock jams this album works and with their long stay in the industry thus far I predict some more Swedish rock coming our way.

Want the album grab it here.

NU MUSIC - We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart | Jonathan Boulet Review

I love an album with a massive overlong title "We Keep the Beat Found the Sound see the Need Start the Heart", is the title to the second album by Jonathan Boutlet, it's not as long as a Fiona Apple album but it's getting there. The first tune the familiar "You're an Animal" builds for the first 50 seconds and then launches into this big sound, track two (also a familiar tune if you listen to Triple J and recently heard this album as a feature release) This Song Is Called Raggard, is a really fun bouncy tune that will have you smiling and thinking wow two great tunes back to back, this album is a bit of a winner.

Track three "FM AM CB TV" continues it's assault and produces some really sweet colourful sounds, "Hallowed Hag" & "Dread Is This Place" keeps the pace of this album feeling like a warm sunny Autumn day.

By the mid point of this album Boutlet jumps into "Mangle Trang" and the same tempo continues, with rich uses of different layers of instruments and big vocals. Track 8 is the final big single already released which is a (close to) two minute stomp, "Trounce". It is slightly different sounding tune from the previous ones on the album, it's fast and packs a big punch. "Black Smokehat" is definitely a darker track with an almost scary vibe to it, the warmth of the first half of the album has now turned into a cold Autumn night. The next tune my favourite titled track on the album "Keep Away You Feral Son Of A Bitch", brings back the joy and the vast layers of sound back leading into the tail end of what started out a solid release and really holds you the listener right through to the end.

I have to say my favourite tracks are the opening two cuts and "Trounce", there is something about a short sharp tune. Boutlet's second release is a ray of sunshine and is anything but a difficult second record, my only criticism would be the last two tunes in comparison to the remainder of the disc are a little lengthy and could have possibly been "bonus tracks" (you know the ones only the die hard fans listen to), I wish him all the best in what could be a very bright future.

We Keep the Beat, Found the Sound, See the Need, Start the Heart is available now from the Jonathan Boulet Store and Getmusic.

@ the Movies 2012 - What to Expect When You're Expecting

2012 and rom coms, are they still relevant, yes, if they have a large ensemble cast with cameos galore!  This film is fun, but can not be taken too seriously.  The cameos are great and the cast are really all amazing, even young Australian Rebel Wilson does well.

I can't say a bad thing about this movie as it really beats all the stereotypes of this style of film as it's just such a good looking film.  The hunk factor is in overdrive with Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison & Joe Manganiello.

It really is all star and all the way to the delivery room.  The ending is nice and ties the film up really well.  So over the wet long weekend I think this was an ace film choice.

What to Expect When You're Expecting does not break any new ground or requires too much thinking so maybe good if you have baby brain.

Each character also really added more to this full on cast.

You can expect a 3 Star Baby Bonus with this film and it's spunky male cast.

28 Days till holidays and another song that will make the records book from 2012

So we are under the 30 mark now and with less than a month to go I have shared some killer music with you, you have danced to Skrillex, got all indie with Best Coast, heard some damn fine local releases and today it is time to shake it up a bit with DZ Deathrays!

What better why to start off a four day (or for me three day) working week, it's NO SLEEP!

Now this song is a stomper, these kids from Brisbane just know how to rock n roll! I love it, this song is big, brash and look let's face it there is plenty of bad words to scream out after a few beers, a night out or just when you feel like singing "Mother Fuckers Say I Don't Wanna!" Loves it.

It's a bit Bleeding Knees Club, it's a bit cool, I love it.

28 DAYS TILL I ENJOY A SECOND INTERNATIONAL HOLIDAY FOR 2012

So they have enlisted a celeb for this video, so get down and love it all sorts of sick. PS I got thrown up on twice by a dog on the long weekend.

DZ Deathrays "No Sleep", what a MEGA epic slice of garage rock n roll.

What else is coming up in this mega epic list????

What better why to finish up the long weekend with a local dance floor smash!
2012 has seen some good dance music come our way and this is straight done the line house pop. Teaming up with Idol reject from many years back Dr Don Don has enlisted local Amali Ward to bring some BIG vocals to "Good Thing"

29 DAYS TILL I HIT THAT MILESTONE, 30 WHILST BEING IN EDINBURUGH

Some have criticised this song when played on Triple J, but lighten up people this is great for the gym, great for a house party, great for a dance floor and Sydney producer Dr Don Don has dropped some ace tunes. He is also back at it under his hip hop name as Chasm too.

So there is unfortunately no video on this tune, so back to work tomorrow people and stay tuned for another handful of ace picks for 2012 on my road to Barcelona!

Missy Higgins - Returns LIVE

Yes 2012 a year of interesting music and comebacks, I have been sharing with you some of the biggest tunes of 2012 so far and I will continue to do so right up till my BIG holiday.  Missy Higgins hasn't featured yet cause to be honest I hadn't given The Ol' Razzle Dazzle much of a listen and I didn't really enjoy "Unashamed Desire" until tonight.

So it was a cold night and Missy Higgins has chosen the Seymour Centre to kick off her first tour in years.  Last time I saw Mistress Higgins was at the Sydney Entertainment Centre years ago and I mean I was front row, but that was a big space for a solo act to fill and choosing this venue and her set list was perfect!

So without anymore rubbish let's review the concert.  So if artists have a good collection of songs people know and love, you have to include these in your live show and Missy did this so well kicking off with "Secret" from "on a Clear Night", a personal favourite and then it begun, a night of remembering the old Missy and introducing the new Missy.

What I liked most about how this show unfolded was her delivery.  The old songs just kicked in and I instant got goosebumps and the new songs had a bit of an explanation about them and which family member liked them.  It as Missy said was kinda like being in her lounge room hearing her belt out the numbers, one after the other after the other.

Missy pumped through the old favourites, "Ten Days", "This Is How It Goes", "Where I Stood", "The Special Two" and more.  Listening to all these amazing songs reminded me that "The Sound of White" is one of the best Australian albums of all time.

Her new tunes came in and "Everyone's Waiting" will have to be the second single it's a clear winner, "Hello Hello" turned it up a bit for young Missy and "Cooling Of The Embers" about her deceased grandma almost brought tears to the audience and Missy.

I can't say anything bad about this event, no encore and closing with her smash "Scar" the evening was perfect, her live version of "Unashamed Desire" won me over and I will be adding it to my IPOD shuffle.

Missy Higgins, I wish you all the success you are one of this countries most talented singer songwriters and it's so great to have you back on the radio and live stage.

Missy does one more night @ the Seymour tonight before touring this great brown land.  Missy Higgin's this night was so special to me and could be my live music moment of 2012, 5 razzle dazzle stars won't do it, so I am going above and beyond for this one 5 and a half RAZZLE Mc DAZZLE stars.

So we are under the 40 mark and I'm on the homeward stretch to my holiday times in South East Asia and then Europe and Dubai. I can't wait and I am sharing with you another BIG song that is making 2012 wonderful. I love a band described as Lo-Fi, what does that even mean? Well apparently that plus surf pop and garage pop describes Best Coast from LA, California. Now I loved their last disc, their debut "Crazy for You" featuring the smash hits "Boyfriend" & "Crazy for You".

This year brings their difficult second album, which doesn't sound difficult, it sounds fun with a touch of LA sun in there for good measure. The album titled the "The Only Place" is great and today I feature the title track.

So happy FRIDAY it's time I get all LA on yo ASS!

33 Days till holidays, 33 songs that will shape 2012

So we are under the 40 mark and I'm on the homeward stretch to my holiday times in South East Asia and then Europe and Dubai. I can't wait and I am sharing with you another BIG song that is making 2012 wonderful. Today comes one of the only good things to come out of Australian Idol. She was always a winner in my book and she has proved she has staying power. Lisa Mitchell also puts on a mean live show and will be travelling around the Seeker Lover Keeper church tour run soon.

Spiritus is a fantastic tune and shows she has no problem getting over the difficult second album. Lisa Mitchell is here to stay and she rules.

33 DAYS TILL I HIT THE SIAM PARAGON IN BANGKOK

And now for the super AWESOME video, this is sweet, sunny and takes me away from the horrible Sydney winter, BRING ON SUMMER!

What will I pick tomorrow? Only 24 hours to find out, could be a real winner though so make sure you check it.

What I learnt From the Diamond Jubilee Concert

Two nights, two nights of Channel 9 programming, I am about to eat my own toe nails, the Voice again showed us that like my below entry it is rare to find great staying power talent in these talent shows.  From Australian Idol Guy Sebastien has done well, Shannon Noll in the early days did as did Anthony Callea (well till he came out), but it's been Matt Corby and Lisa Mitchell who have built a following and moved forward to build a dedicated fan base.

Now to the Diamond Jubilee Concert, oh boy what a night of viewing only on the old Olympics network could you catch, Tom Jones, Kylie, Robbie Williams and more smash out a tune or two or event a melody.

So here's what I learnt:

1.  Robbie Williams had a nice haircut
2.  Will.i.Am intrigues me, Jessie J bores the tracksuit pant off me
3.  Some of JLS can dance and some can't
4.  Cheryl Cole needs to stick to her new dance numbers, that cover, well it bombed.
5.  Grace Jones looked wet, all over
6.  Ed Sheeran has nice blue eyes and a nice voice to boot
7.  Annie Lennox seemed to struggle through her tune
8.  Tom Jones, oh boy
9.  Kylie had amazing boy back up dancers, the ladies looked bored, her song choices for her medley were awesome and she actually did a good job.  All the Lovers is actually a good song now I have seen it live and seen it again on this dreamy night of television.

I then went to bed, the storm, the vision it was all a bit much.  I'm too old to stay up past 10pm and when you have a warm bed and a True Blood novel to smash, you know.

Anyway stay safe in the storm today Sydney siders, everyone else happy hump day and happy birthday jellybean Janine.  XXX

34 Days till holidays, 34 songs that will shape 2012

So we are under the 40 mark and I'm on the homeward stretch to my holiday times in South East Asia and then Europe and Dubai. This song is one of my favourite gym numbers, I love how dirty this song is, I love the beat, I love her attitude, I love how this song shits all over the faker now known as Nicki Minaj. Azealia Banks is awesome and this features some really BAD ASS words, so if you hate swearing don't press play on the below, but if you want your mind blown hit play NOW!

So we are under the 40 mark and I'm on the homeward stretch to my holiday times in South East Asia and then Europe and Dubai. I can't wait and I am sharing with you another BIG song that is making 2012 wonderful. From the only nomination so far for my BLOG's album of the year it is the almighty Hilltop Hoods from Adelaide. Their tune Speaking In Tongues to me is almost a national anthem for no racism and love between races and cultures, love it sick and love their latest album "Drinking From The Sun".

35 DAYS TILL I GET MY FIRST RYAN AIR FLIGHT

Got to LOVE Aussie Hip Hip!

More top shelf tunes on the way as the road in gold paved to Dubai just gets that little bit closer!

Super Producers Part One - Calvin Harris

It has caught my attention that Mr Calvin Harris is popping up everywhere right now and maybe found his new talent of turning some tired old pop stars back into superstars or rescuing some from dodgy previous records.

He has recently turned his hand for his third forthcoming album (Due in September according to Wiki) to producing hits for Kelis after he failed dance record of 2010 and getting Ne-Yo back into the spotlight with his latest track "Let's Go".

Rihanna's career has been a strange one for someone who can't sing live she has done well, however some of her songs fall flat as, with Calvin's magic production on "We Found Love" she has released a perfect pop and club smash covered by Glee and loved by many.

Now he has moved onto fellow Brit Miss Cheryl Cole and after a fairly horrid second album he has worked wonders on her lead single "Call My Name", it's Euro Trash Club Pop but in a grand style.

Calvin Harris has built on his career and going into this third album with four tracks already all over the radio and the clubs it's set to be big making Calvin Harris my first Super Producer.

Happy Saturday.
