@ the Movies 2012 - Battleship

Action films are BIG business but when you do them right it could be even bigger business with sequels, action figures, other merch to follow.  And Battleship although adopted from a board game really works and has a great cast.

Even Rhianna steps up to the plate as the only female Navy person.  Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård & Jesse Plemons all make it work as TV stars gone into film.  Alexander Skarsgård has made a much better choice here rather than his work on that art house train wreck Melancholia.

I am so excited to see Taylor Kitsch in more, he is smoking hot in this movie and has done well to gone from the box office flop but still enjoyable John Carter to this.  He is set to star in the upcoming "Savages" with some rather big names so keep a look out.

So the film is good honest fun, with big sounds, big action and not the long set up that the Avengers required.  This was nice as it cut straight to the action and got on with it.

Battleship is BIG, grand and as above has some great actors in it.  I feel as though this could be one of my action movies of 2012, cause I expected nothing but enjoyed the hell out of this!

Battleship rates a BIG, strong and Rhianna approved 4 stars.

The Highs and Lows of Auditions

Yesterday was one of the strangest days of my life, I put my life in the hands of god and stood up and tried to be counted as one of the upcoming housemates for the 2012 season of Big Brother.

After a long absence from the TV screens Big Brother will be back in 2012 at some stage and yes I did (well a part of me) wanted to be a part of it.

I have never auditioned or applied for anything like this and after 5 hours and not eating or drinking, I think this may be my first and last appearance in an audition line.

The line wasn't too long to start but then the real waiting started as the doors opened at 8am, by around 11am I went through to the first stage which was great and I did okay, but the good news was of my group of 12 I went through to round two.

Then another 30 minutes of sitting around with no talking or mobile phones.  Then round 2 with another group of 20 launched into effect and my boy this was loads harder and the BIG personalities in the room was intense.

So by now my Big Brother 2012 run had come to an end.  Yes I made it through one round, then missed the next.  The next round, stage 3 or round 3 would have been a one on one chat with a senior producer of the show, would have loved to get there, but who could compete with a Brazilian male stripper (20 years old), an under 20 refugee with loads of big ideas and opinions & a 30 year very left leaning male after school child care centre manager.

Oh boy, maybe next year or maybe not, all I know is I will be tuning in for the 2012 run!

TV Wrap, Random Stuff and bring on the weekend

In the week that the Voice continued to soar, Luke Nguyen's "Greater Mekong" wound up and Glee did a pretty great tribute to Whitney.  So Glee has gotten a lot better and with a fourth season in the works it is about time.

The Whitney episode featured some great performances like the below:

So good!

It will be interesting to see where Ryan Murphy goes as he will be very busy making the new season of American Horror Story as good as the first.  Well it started well but got a bit tired.

I will post a preview of the new season as soon as it's up, should be soon, well hopefully.

Speaking of sneak previews, here is a little and I mean a little more for True Blood Season 5:

The Big C in season 3 has seriously lifted the bar, I have loved it fully sick!  The series has been great and I am really hoping Showtime keep this awesome drama on board, they are still going with Nurse Jackie, the show where nothing ever happens and the laughs are few and far between.

I just finished watching the sexy and horrific Spartacus Season of Vengeance.  Wow the gore, the cocks, the boobs, it was all a bit much actually, good news is the boys will be back for another round in little clothes and some racy scenes, followed by people having their faces sliced off.  Nice.

And now to random stuff:

1.  Why do people from the suburbs yell and talk slowly to people of different ethnic appearances?  Half the time these people have more language skills than the entire population of the Shire.

2.  Why is Nicki Minaj still releasing music, I listened to her latest effort (and the effort is little) Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, it is truly awful. The album has received some woeful reviews and the track listing is just weird, it's all fuck you's and your a whore and a bitch in the first half and then the second half is gay ass pop that not even Perez Hilton would enjoy.  Truly horrible.

3.  The Last Dinosaurs from Brisbane released a solid debut album In a Million Years, with the tune "Andy" being my personal fav.

4.  Santigold's new disc is nowhere near as good as her first release.

5.  I can't wait to see Battleship this weekend, action movies are killing it this year with The Avengers currently smashing the box office.

6.  Sydney has also welcomed the use of the C bomb with the Comedy Festival rolling into town with plenty of comedians saying the naughty C word.

That is all till tomorrow.

Good Night and go the Bunnies against the cock sucking Cowboys tomorrow.

@ the Movies 2012 - The Lady

- Actual Film Released in 2011.

OMG, a film with a country in trouble due to an out of control army and generals being just plain evil on ANZAC Day oh boy.  And oh boy the Lady is one powerful film, Michelle Yeoh depicts Aung San Suu Kyi and the struggle in Burma (a country I knew very little about but will now do a whole load of reading up on) and her powerful tale and the heartbreak she and her country went through and continues to experience.

The Lady is one of those films you can just sit through and it ticks major boxes, the story is power and true, the acting is sublime from all involved, the visions on the screen are at times hard to take in (Aung San Suu Kyi father being shot at point blank range was very hard in the opening minutes of the film) and sometimes so beautiful too, I must say I almost cried a few times.

Her children and husband also play a great part in this historical tale, a Nobel Peace Prize winning tale.

The struggle of the Burmese people is so sad and I had a moment thinking, this is ANZAC day and this is why we have the day to reflect on the past, people have made great sacrifices in the past for us to get where we are today, however in listening to Bob Brown on Monday night I think we also need to stop and understand that acceptance is what is needed in 2012 and we all need to respect each other's differences and move forward together, together as one.  So Tony Abbott stop being a massive dick, leave scandals alone and do some good for the country and stop saying NO to everything Julia says, Julia keep doing what your doing but listen to everyone and make your mind up with sound evidence and research not what the Daily Telegraph is saying is the popular trend.

Sorry rant end, but after watching "The Lady" it made me think, Australia is great, Australia is grand and we are in a great position, compared to the Burmese who could get shot at anytime, we live a free, wealthy, happy life.  Yes shit happens but I believe in positive power and if you think good shit, good shit will come your way (unless your on the Voice, those five minutes of fame will come and go quicker than the next nude Zac Efron sighting).

The Lady, for leaving me with a lot to think about, a lot to enjoy and just over 2 hours of great cinema rates a glowing and enlightening 4.25 stars, why .25 because I want to.

Until tomorrow and I feel like a rant, Randy Andy OUT!

@ the Movies 2012 - The Avengers {PREVIEW}

With a star studded cast and a special effects budget that could keep the entire Africa feed and watered with clean drinking water for six months this movie packs a PUNCH!

And after having my smart phone checked in as the film is released in around 2 hours, it was high security at the NOVA 969 sounds similar screening.

Now to the movie, each of the films that have come before (Iron Man, Captain America & Thor) have all had good reviews and this will review well also.  Chris Evans, Downey Jnr, Chris Hemsworth & Scarlett Johansson all work well and an action film would not be an action film without Samuel L. Jackson.

So is it worth all the hype and having my phone stripped away from me for around 3 hours?  Yes n No, the action scenes and the final war are great, the start getting the group together is a little drawn out, a sequel will work well cause the back story is not much of a matter.

So how will this go when it opens @ midnight tonight?  I think it will do extremely well, and with a grand public holiday awaiting us in the morning, let's get our movie viewing 3D glasses on.

The Avengers is perfect escapism and a film that shows even with differences we can all work together to obtain a common goal, shame the NSW police force can't seem to take a leaf out of this comic book.

The Avengers rates a high flying 3 stars.

New Missy and some disturbia in Sydney

Finally Missy Higgins has come out with a new tune and a tour to boot.  Her new album is also set to drop real soon and hopefully this new single kills off some of the Voice performances running high up in the charts at present.

Missy Higgins has definitely been one to watch in the past and absence has been felt, I remember tuning into hear "I'm all for Believing" the first time and falling in  love with her story telling vocals and heartfelt words.

So here is the new tune in all it's glory:

Also in new music the two new tunes from my fresh twenty yesterday:

Yes the Black Keys are killing it and now doing arena shows, well done boys, let's get some gold on the ceiling huh?

And new solo Angus Stone, this is epic:

Now for something more serious, is anyone else slightly concerned about how the police behaved in Kings Cross on the weekend?  Firstly the gun shootings in Sydney is only on the rise, a famous pub near my house was burnt the other week and drug and bikie wars will soon have impact on regular citizens if the police don't kick people while they are down and do something about this current crime spree.

Sydney seems destined for riots again (Redfern style) or worse these shootings continue and Innocent people lose their lives.

C'mon NSW police, step up and don't forget everyone has video's and cameras on their phones now so police brutality is not something you can get away with that easy.

End of serious note, tomorrow is ANZAC day and I will have a special video countdown of the hottest Australian and NZ artists right now.  Look out world, Goyte is number one in the USA, it's gonna be an Aussie music revolution!

@ the Movies 2012 DOUBLE FEATURE

So I did a double film review a little while back and in this busy period of film seeing it was a must on this Sunday AM to MIX these two reviews together in all loving MASH UP!

I must warn you dear reader that I have currently had the blog place change the way I post shit and spell check is something I can't locate anymore so excuse my grade one spelling errors please!

So first up:

1. @ the Movies 2012 - This Must be the Place (ACTUAL FILM RELEASED @ FILM FESTIVALS IN 2011)

So Sean Penn and around 2 hours of a typical road movie.  However this movie has a lot of heart and soul and for an art house slightly odway film this movie had a great calming effect over me.

Sean Penn is a great actor, David Byrne is a great musician and with this two in tow this film works and works well.  With some deep themes and some big issues explored and fleshed out in this film it's slightly weird to say it's relaxing but when a film is made with such big names and done with such ease it is easy to watch and therefore I found Nirvana in watching this picture.

So different to the next film I am about to review and admittedly I did drift off to other things during this movie but in the end Sean Penn shines and rates a decent 3 stars.

2. @ the Movies 2012 - Streetdance 2 3D (Only $10 this week @ Hoyts - 3D even, BARGAIN!)

This movie is visually perfect and it's soundtrack is bass heavy and moves away from your Flo Rida's to make way for some new and upcoming amazing dance artists.  Not many bad things can be said about this latest dance picture, except for:

1.  The acting - at times it's wooden and dull, bring on some more dancing!
2.  The script - oh boy!
3.  The Start - Is drawn out and quiet frankly dull.

Other than these three points the film rocks my socks and I had so much fun!  And under 90 minutes is perfect for this visual sensation.  The 3D is not too necessary but still it adds to the formula for these pictures.

So is it worth seeing, HELL YES! Well this week anyway it's a bargain @ $10 a ticket @ Hoyts (No I don't work at Hoyts) but I appreciate a good deal and $10 for a 3D film is lush.

Anyway run out and see this there is more rain forecast so if you want 90 minutes of fun and good times, this is it!

3 and a half dancing shoes.

UPDATE - Found my spell check!  Thank goodness, now upcoming my FRESH ASS 20 tunes of the week and here are some AWESOME movies on now or about to be on @ a picture theatre near y'all:

PS Zac - seen the nude pics, what is WRONG with young people no pubes equals NASTY!

Data & Music 101

So yeah it was a full on data of me punching through some almighty fine data yesterday and this also meant me listening to a load of new and recent releases that I may have missed or got a little exicted by. So here goes: First up a dance set (not an album) to blow your mind by Anna Lunoe. Now you can download this little gem and listen to it in full for yourselves below: This is something quite special and will totally get you cutting a rug tonight pre disco days. Highlights include the wonderful Hermitude “HyperParadise" and a remix of a new Ladyhawke cut "Black, White & Blue". Overall an awesome mix and even better, it's totally legal and free for you to download above. Next up DEEP SEA ARCADE - OUTLANDS coming out last month this is a totally Beach Boys inspired fun journey through some Summer days and nights, highlights included "Lonely in Your Arms", "Stream" & "Girls". This is a nice debut from the Sydney 5 piece and a band to look forward to hearing more from in the future. An EP from the Glee Cast of their latest episode "Saturday Night Glee-ver", with my favourite definately being "You Should Be Dancing", however "Boogie Shoes" sang in full drag is awesome! Loves it! An older release from Holly Throsby but a good one her album "Team" was a gem and a mighty fine and chilled affair. With songs like "Here is my Co-Pilot", I am so happy she has experienced sold out shows and lot's of success with her Seeker Lover Kepper work. Holly Throsby is a true Australian gem and I look forward to hearing more work from her and possibly reviewing her "See" kids album in my next load of album reviews. Another bit of girl power from this fine brown land Kate Miller Heidke's new release which came out before even having a single to promote it. Nightflight is a nice release with a very haunting song early on called "Sarah", this song hjas to be heard to be believed. I enjoyed this album and enjoyed her first single from it a lot on Adam Hills show this week - "I'll Change Your Mind". "Humiliation" has had play on JJJ and is another nice tune. Overall a good and solid release. Ladyhawke next month will release Anxiety, the first three tracks are truly brillant pop fun and showing Ladyhawke still has a lot to offer. "Girl Like Me" the opener is grand and a real pop treasure. It's only 10 tunes but that works for this set and I must say I am happy she has the difficult second album out of her way. Macy Gray has released a rather weird covers album titled well Covered, it's strange and is littered with really bad filler skits, that show thus album was a rush and somewhat a quick put together or maybe a record Macy needed to make to complete a contract with a major record company. This is really sad that an artist at the top of the game now has to release this style of musical rubbish. Give this one a miss it's a real shocker. Interesting to hear through how she can ruin songs from artists as diverse as Radiohead to Matallica. Last up is Mat McHugh, his new album is called Love Come Save Me, and the good news is if you click here you get the album for free. Now many will now Mat as the front man for The Beautiful Girls, his solo work is equally as grand, I love it. Chilled, Sunday mornign music here you go if you download this treat. For people new to MAt, he is also quite the looker as below.
Yeah Jack Johnson beat yo heart out! That's it for now, it's been real y'all.

Mid week look at the iTunes Chart

So it looks like despite it being rubbish and Delta needing a good kick in the guts The Voice artists and songs (yes the Voice is already making money from merch plus all the advertising dollars Channel 9 is getting due to it's high ratings) are killing it mid week on the iTunes chart.

Delta's woeful new song (performed at this years lush Logie Awards) is number 2 and the blind chick with this years sob story is number 4.

Yes I have compassion, but a show supposed to judge on a voice, then we get the whole bleeding heart rubbish, come on Australia, there are blind, sick, near dying people everywhere, just cause they can't sing doesn't mean they deserve our worries and thoughts any less.

It shits me to no end when these shows pray on peoples emotions.

Thank god for Florence and the Machine's BIG new single "Never Let Me Go" and the high camp number by Carly Rae Jespen so there is no a complete Voice white wash.

With Nine now harbouring the Voice, The Block, Celebrity Apprentice, they are like the 24 hour reality network. Let's just hope the reality bubble doesn't burst anythime soon or it will be back to back repeats of the Big Bang Theory and Two and Half Men.

End of rant.....

RE: the where are they now files

So the Voice's first episode got 2 million viewers, will this continue and will the winner end up in this list of gems in a couple of years???

My Voice on the Logies 2012

Firstly how great was Adam Hills being honest about channel 10's desperate attempt to create interest in the failing station with the Shire? Who gives a fuck what people from God's Country are up too. Anyone remember the Cronulla riots?

I was nervous for Channel Nine sitting down to my first outing of free to air TV in ages. Thank god for the Internet.

The Voice started off with what I can only describe as a dull judging panel and some more singers hoping for a little bit more success than Natalie Gauci or poor old Wes Carr.

Does Australia really need anymore talent shows? Young Talent Time, X Factor & Australia's Got Talent surely have us covered? Were a country with a population of just under 23 million and with many series of Idol past, who could forget Popstars (Scandal'us Anyone?) and X Factor kicking back off plus Australia's Got Talent. I don't want to be a stick in the mud, but really another show? And really Delta.

My thoughts were, it lacks something, I recently watched three episodes of the English version and I was rather bored, so I am not sure about this Aussie version, it's a gamble, Seal hasn't been popular since Kiss from a Rose, Keith Urban has never had much of an audience here and Delta, OMG! The guy from Good Charlotte also seems very outta place.

Now to the Logies and Adam Hills was the highlight for sure! One Direction proved they are killing it! And Packed to the Rafters dominance shows Australians are happy to watch a boring family exist through boring story lines.

Good to see the ABC doing well as they seem to be the only station putting forward new and exciting Australian series such as the Slap.

After my night of being bombed by comercials for reality shows (the god awful Celebrity Apprentice - Patti Newton - go put your son out of his misery and drop him in a loony bin & 7 O Block - fuck me sideways, I would prefer to do an exchange with the Bali Nine than watch that), listening to painful cross promotion and seeing some awkward behavior.

Thank god for Kath & Kim.

Anyway The Logies and the Voice, what a night, glad it's Monday morning really.

G'Morning Sunshines

As the weather takes a dip, the TV seasons from the states are hotting up with Glee being renewed for a fourth season (by some form of a miracle after a patchy 3rd season) and Glee even giving some Goyte love.

The Big C & Nurse Jackie returned this week and the Big C is looking good for season number 3:

Another True Blood Season 5 trailer has landed:

Now I have been a harsh critic of Glee this season, it's been on then it's had a month between episodes, it's had BIG songs, horrid songs and then just had weird storylines (i.e. the new Quinn storyline), but they are turning a corner and airing the last 8 episodes back to back and the next one goes back to the era of disco:

Okay there is your TV fix for the next bit, don't forget the lovely Luke Nguyen greater Mekong tonight @ 7:30pm SBS One

@ the Movies 2012 - American Reunion (AKA - American Pie: Reunion)

90's world all over again, you hear me, back to the days when Blink 182 were cool, life was easy, iPhones weren't the phones everyone in Australia lived on 24/7. The 90's were ace and so was the American Pie trilogy, now in it's fourth movie and possible set up for future films.

These movies were great and had a great cast, now years on they are all back, some more hard up than others.

The story is simple, the humour vile, the characters so uneasy and amusing. Basically if your looking for an easy to watch fun film over Easter, than this is it. There is some damn awkward ass moments in this picture but I think that's why this franchise works so gosh darn well.

12-15 year olds will love this and then go on to discover the earlier pictures, 15-30 year olds will love the tits and ass jokes and me well I feel like I am 12 and discovering these movies all over again. I can't wait to go out and buy they now and relive all the amazing moments all over again. Oh 90's world, American Reunion rates four big large teenage boobies, hooray for boobies!

New Music ALERT!

Cut Copy are hard at work on the follow-up to Zonoscope, but while you are waiting for it, we wanted to let you know that bassist Ben Browning has just released his 1st solo EP, “Lover Motion,” on the band’s own Cutters Records.

Most of the basic tracks were home spun, and afterward, the talents of Gus Franklin and Haima Marriott (Architecture in Helsinki) were enlisted to add production and shimmer to the finished product. The pair re-effected and mixed the recordings, with Franklin and Lachlan Dickie (one half of film directing duo Krozm) also providing live-drums to some of the original tracks. Meanwhile, Cut Copy's own Dan Whitford reached into his collection of vintage synths to provide keyboard programming, producing some of the classic keyboard tones that lie herein.

American Pie REVIEW! - It's gonna be a good one!

XOXO

Mid Way through an EGG eating Long Weekender

Does anyone else find jumbo long weekend's confusing, like today what day is it, after two days off and into the third and with an empty street outside on Pine Street, Chippendale one could almost think it's the end of the world (Avenger and Battleships style - side point - why do all the major action blockbusters of 2012 have Earth exploding and having major cities being destroyed by random objects from here and outer space) or better the third day of the Easter JUMBO weekend.

With streets empty, Coles yesterday packed, people chilled out or in a chocolate trance, Easter is well and truly here.

So today it's Easter movie Number 2:

Full review coming soon, and the full EGG-CELENT 20 TUNES of the week!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now for something special and VERY exciting, last year I had the BLOG's album of the year taken out by Goyte and the year before Washington, this year it's on again and with some BIG albums already landing and coming very soon new albums from Kate Miller Heidke, Garbage, Gossip, Santigold and more it's time for this years first nomination and no it's NOT Lana Del Ray (However the album is growing on me).

So without further ado, what is the year's first album of the year nod:

Yes those boys from Adelaide are BACK and in a BIG way, first off with the massive single "I Love it" featuring the dreamy SIA and now with their new song tackling rednecks head on "Speaking in Tongues" the Hilltop Hoods are here to stay.

Their new album is an Aussie Hip Hop Masterpiece and a whole lot of hype and love is deserved for this mighty fine new release from the boys from Adelaide.

The Hilltop Hoods have kept up with the times and showed in 2012 they are still close to the top if not at the top of the Aussie hip hop scene. Which has continued to grow with newcomers like 360 killing it at present.

Anyway the first BLOG album of the year nomination goes to the Hilltop Hoods for their excellent 2012 release "Drinking From the Sun".

Now here is another taste of why this album is so tip top!

@ the Movies 2012 - Mirror Mirror

Fairy tales and fantasies are not my favourite genre of movies, but this film was fun and Julia Roberts was so much more watchable than in the last effort I saw her in "Eat Pray Love".

The young Prince Armie Hammer is pretty cute and they like getting him without his shirt.

Lily Collins was a cute Snow White with massive normal non plucked eyebrows.

This is the first of two Snow White movies in 2012 and I really can't wait to compare the two. This film seems to be doing well as it was almost sold out on a Good Friday.

Mirror Mirror is not perfect but it is a damn fine journey, the dwarfs are almost very enjoyable.

I would also recommend this movie to almost all ages, finally a decent family/teen film which is not lame lame lame.

Mirror Mirror rates 3 positive stars for the Easter School Holidays.

Yes Prime Minister Opening Night - The Review

Young, old, famous & industry types turned out for the opening night of Yes Prime Minister @ Sydney Theatre last night.

I was excited to have YTT host Rob Mills looking mighty dapper in my row and old Kerri Ann Kennel Dog the row in front.

The show itself was slightly dull, funny in parts and as the title suggest very political. The English Political system does seem to have paralels with ours and the storyline has some good twists and turns however I did find myself drifting a bit.

Caroline Craig from Blue Heelers and Underbelly narrating fame was good as the one female in the show.

Yes Prime Minister will appeal to the English out there and the political ones among us.

Happy Easter to one and all a fair 2 and a half stars for Yes Prime Minister now playing @ Sydney Theatre, Walsh Bay.

@ the Movies 2012 - Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

- Actual Film Released September 10, 2011 (2011-09-10) (Toronto)

This film is just delightful! Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor are just amazing leads and the scene stealer is Kristin Scott Thomas.

This is in the vein of "The Best Exotic Marigold", this is another drama that has it all and is done extremely well with a terrific cast!

I'm sure this film will do well but not be a MEGA blockbuster like a lot of the HUGE Hollywood films of late.

The story of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is one of hope and in 2012, that's what we all need is a little hope and faith that life is great and amazing things can happen.

All this said this film is sweet, inspiring and a lot of fun 4 stars.

And now a Vale Jimmy Little tribute, from Wiki:

James Oswald "Jimmy" Little AO (1 March 1937 – 2 April 2012[1]) was an Australian Aboriginal musician, singer, songwriter and guitarist, whose career spanned six decades. For many years he was the main Aboriginal star on the Australian music scene. His music was influenced by Nat King Cole and American country music artist Jim Reeves.

@ the Movies 2012 - The Hunger Games

You can't help but compare Twilight and The Hunger Games and if anyone remains the early teen hit Twilight's first film, the Hunger Games does not have much competition.

Now this movie has some big names in it too, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland & Lenny Kravitz (Does a great job for this genre).

I was really surprised at how much I got into this teen fantasty romance film. The acting was miles above and beyond a Twilight picture, the action scenes were great (a little scary for the younger viewers) and the sequel lead in is exciting to say the least!

Apparently there could be up to four more films in the pipeline, exciting, HELL YES!

I am really looking forward to seeing more in this series, so this film ticks a lot of blockbuster MEGA pictures:

1. Great looking cast - ten stars for old Lenny, looking good buster. - TICK!
2. Chemistry between the cast - TICK!
3. Love triangle - TICK!
4. Lot's of edge of the seat, clear the constuption stuff - TICK!
5. Long, but felt like an 80 minute film, TICK!

Look out this could be the BLOCKBUSTER 2012 was looking for! 4.95 STARS, LOVED IT!

And a tribute to the Lenny:
