A Night @ the Opera House

I haven't been to the Opera House for a gig for a while and let me tell you this is definitely one of the best venues in the country to see an artist like this.

I have been a long term fan of Ms Spektor and she definitely didn't disappoint with a lot of favourites from her "Begin to Hope" releases and her most recent disc "Far".

Her wit, her cute voice and her amazing vocal talents in such an amazing building just made for the total concert experience.

This show will definitely rank in my end of year best of specials and I have so much more love for her after see her live in the flesh.

Regina rates a monster 4.75 stars!

Anzac Day long weekender and Justin Beaver concert canned

Well as we awake to another day off in this long weekend bonanza called April we hear the shocking news that Justin Beaver's Sydney concert brought to you by Channel 7's Bumrise is cancelled due to girls without the good sense to listen to Courtney Love's new disc rather than some bratty child's auto tune recordings has been cancelled due to the crowd LOL!

It is also the home stretch now for this year's Logies, who will win, actually who gives a rat's clacker is a better question.

After working at the AJC - Sydney's Autumn Canrnival at Randwick on the weekend I have now noticed that society itself is on a complete downward spiral. I also attended yesterday's race meet at Gosford in New South Wales Central Coast and found that alcohol plus scrags equals = "You always yell at me for drinking too much, your fucked" (a girl to some guy hoping to get an easy root).

I have found racing is the new hot spot for teen binge drinking and social disasters, the cotton under pressure mini skirts and the bogans wearing $10 suits with runners, it's a classy look.

I also wanted to comment on the rant for the month how much this Melbourne Storm drama has drawn some much needed attention back to the NRL. There have been no drug, alcohol or sex scandals this year so something had to give. The games this week (besides the Melbourne Storm game) have been close and have showcased some great comebacks (go the Bunnies!) and great battles of the West (Peno V West Tigers). I think NRL needs scandals and it needs as much media attention as it can get.

Also this week it's a big week for new music with new albums dropping from Gold Coast's favourite kids "Operator Please" - Gloves. Courtney Love's group Hole is back with "Nobody's Daughter", Kate Nash releases her second disc and Dizzee Rascal continues to bring the new disco music with a new tune from the soon to be re-released album "Tongue N Cheek" "Dirtee Disco".

Coming soon on the BLOG some more film reviews, my road to Sadelaide starts any minute and my continued effort for this year's City to Surf starts soon.

I'll see you soon BYE!

Film Freak - Kick-Ass

Are you ready for me to Kick your ass!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVhaxx60QDw&feature=related

Check out the link above to my new favourite character in this film "Hit Girl", I love her an 11 year old girl who swears like a trooper and kills anyone who gets in her way. AWESOME

I had heard so much about this film I just had to get in their and see it!

The movie is almost like no other superhero film because the characters are real with no real super powers.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone so just go see it now!

4 stars, one of my films of 2010!

Put your hands up for Sydney hip Hop w/ Horrorshow

Two albums in and Horrorshow are now a force to reckon with. They are not at the level of Aussie hip hop like the Hilltop Hoods or Bliss N Eso but they are well on there way, with brilliant song writing and terrific beats.

Spit Syndicate were an awesome support and they also joined the Show on stage for a few numbers.

They played through all their hits “No Rides Left” (from Grey Space) and the hits from the Inside Story “Thoughtcrime”, “The Show” & “The Rain”.

The crowd really ate this up and loved every hit.

Looking forward to see where these guys go with their third record and also predict they may be a contender for the Urban ARIA nod this year.

3 and a half Aussie Hip to the hop stars.

A Suicidal night @ the Theatre

I love a downstairs play at Sydney’s Belvoir Street especially when there is a difficult topic like suicide being explored in an interesting and different matter, in this play a comedy.

The actors were all from last years disturbing drama “the Only Child” with a couple of boys (one particularly sexual) added for the ride. All actors were terrific especially the males and females swapping between numerous roles.

I loved this play and I loved the outcome, a tight group of actors who definitely gel well together 4 stars.

WTF TV Review - The Matty Johns Show

Oh dear if there wasn't enough NRL on TV with the weekly Footy Show on Channel 9, Channel 7 has jumped on the band wagon with a terrible copy cat show, with copy cat Chaser bits and even more diabolical hetro action than you can shot a ping pong ball from a loose pussy at.

I was excited to check this out but it was squashed around about 30 seconds into the show when I noticed Matty Johns had unsightly sweat marks on his shirt, this is TV not bush week mate!

To make matters worse the Eric Grothe, Jr./Fuifui Moimoi music video sketch was just plain embarrassing.

I am surprised this show is in week three as I thought it could have been axed in the opening credits of the first show.

In a nutshell this is terrible television and I think my grand dad would make a much better and far more amusing television show. 1 star.

My Album of the year search starts here

This year I will be awarding an album of the year on my BLOG, so far I have only managed to find two OUTSTANDING releases.

My first nomination for this highly prestigious award is Angus & Julia Stone from the Northern Beaches in Sydney's second release "Down the Way", featuring the three perfect singles "And the Boys", "Black Crow" & "Big Jet Plane". The second release is heartfelt, emotional and simply sublime Sunday morning listening. I think a big year will be had from this brother/sister team at this year's ARIA Awards.

Down the Way is sublime and simply sexy it is my first pick for the Album of 2010.

My second is also Australian, it comes from WA from a former American Mr John Butler and his new trio.

With a line up change and a monster lead single in "One Way Road" the John Butler trio have released the simply most amazing 5th studio release.

"April Uprising" is a terrific effort with amazing musicianship and great songwriting (something lacking in the years overseas releases to date).

The album features great catchy tunes like the latest smash "Lose to You". With a lot of 3 to 4 minute catchy tunes John Butler has earned a nomination for my favourite album of 2010.

How good are four day weekends!

My training for this year's City to Surf has begun and I am super excited to go in this year's City to Surf for the first time EVER!

Super excited and watch this space as I will update my progress!

Reviews to come in the coming weeks:

The Suicide (now playing at Belvoir St downstairs)
Lisa Mitchell @ the Enmore
Horrorshow @ the Factory (tickets on sale now - show this Saturday for Sydney's most promising new hip hop act!)

Theatre Alert - Love Me Tender

I must say I didn't enjoy my last Belvoir St show "Bent" downstairs but I went back for a look at the upstairs theatre's new show "Love Me Tender" featuring a live lamb, yes a live lamb!

This play was written by the same play write as "Beyond the Neck" from the downstairs theatre which I loved about the Port Arthur Massacre. This play on the other hand dealt with some fairly major issues and one in particular that if I am not mistaken was explored in their last production "That Face".

The play complete with yes a live lamb and full on MLIF dance to Britney's smash hit "Gimme More" is deep and sometimes hard to follow with the chorus doing most of the work on the plot development, however the more I thought about it the more I enjoyed it.

Love Me Tender rates 3 tender stars.

Top Hits @ Easter 2010
