The Corby Case

Sunday night also proved an interesting night on Channel 9 with the Hidden Truth part two doco.

I have never for one minute thought Schapelle was guilty (everyone is allowed their opinion) and this was a question on many peoples list, at work coffee machines, in the playground and waiting around for late public transport.

This doco is definitely not the world's best made documentary but it re-opens one of the most interesting overseas court cases in a long time.

I not only feel sorry for Schapelle but for her family in this horrible time, you only had to look at the prison cells she has lived in over the last few years to feel sick and feel lucky to be here in Australia and not some third world countries jail.

Now I am not knocking Indonesia, however this is one country I would personally never visit (Bali belly and pirated DVD's not exactly my cup of tea) nor would I recommend others to visit.

I am looking forward to part two and also hearing what everyone else thinks, drop a comment send me an email:

I would love to know what everyone else thinks about this interesting and long running case.

Nobbi leaves the House

In this years Big Brother, we have witnessed some of the most run of the mill characters ever however one young man made the show bearable, Nobbi.

With stupid blonde's (Jackie O included), future Zoo models and racist nana's, this year has really gone to a new level.

Nobbi's eviction has now proved an instant death to the failing reality show, the ratings are lower than ever and the failing Kyle & Jackie O are struggling on a weak Sunday night show.

Unfortunately Big Brother sucked me in however now the Nob's has left the house I think BB loses one of it's last viewers.

It's lucky for the strong upcoming DVD releases with crap like this on the idiot box, my suggestion for Sunday night (DVD release wise):

One Tree Hill series 4
Dexter Series 1
90210 series 4

Film Freak: You Don't Mess With the Zohan

Cheese, cheese and more cheese!

This movie delivers exactly what you expect, nearly two hours of fairly cut and dry gags that Adam Sandler has perfected over his highly successful careers. This movie features the three C's:

1. Cameos - Everyone from Chris Rock to Mariah Carey
2. Comedy - Adam Sandler and the excellent supporting cast really deliver a very funny generic American comedy
3. Camp music - I loved the soundtrack, high camp and fun!

This movie really delivers for me, in a time of depression over fuel prices, high interest rates and extreme teenage binge drinking (visit King Street, Newtown on a Friday/Saturday night for evidence, it's Goon Bag city!) this movie is a bright light in a bleak 2008.

Adam Sandler is incredibly talented and definitely deserves this film to succeed in the sea of blockbusters currently at your local cinema.

This film is nowhere near ground breaking, nor will it win any awards, however this film is perfect comedy for little old me, it rates a BIG four stars!

Billy Elliot Take 3

Well the musical closes in a few months opening the doors for High School the Musical, and I thought I had to give this show another chance.

I actually could only last the first half with young Genvieve Lemon out of action for the Saturday matinee I just couldn't bare her understudy.

The three main points about this musical I can't bear are:

1. Not all movies can translate into a wonderful musical
2. Elton John is definitely not the world's best songwriter
3. Children in shows rarely works (except Tam in Miss Saigon)

The show does however impress with a slick set, great costumes and a fairly good cast, however the show just never really draws me in.

Overall the first half of Billy Elliot: The Musical rates a low 1 star.

Film Freak: The Orphanage

Spanish title - El orfanato

Well this film has been dubbed the scariest film of 2008, and yes I may have to agree.

This film not only has a creepy setting in an old orphanage in a rural part of somewhere exotic in the world, creepy children and creepy sound effects every five minutes.

Now I want the creators of franchises such as Saw & Hostel to tune in NOW: tip you don't need endless amounts of gore and blood to scare the viewers, it's all about suspense. And let me tell you The Orphanage or the much sexier Spanish title: El orfanato, has so much suspense I nearly needed a pace maker after sitting through this film.

I must see this has been the most terrified I have been at the movies for a long time. The story takes the final sequences to make sense and the subtitles are hard work to keep up with when you have the eye sight of an eighty year old, however in summary this film is a terrific success.

The Spanish deliver a tasty horror treat, this makes Chucky look like child's play, The Orphanage (El orfanato) rates a BIG 4 and a half stars.

Film Freak: Unfinished Sky

The Peter Duncan film starring ex Blue Heeler William Mc Innes is a romantic, dramatic tale. The story takes place sin rural Queensland and for the most part of the film (unless you have done your research) you hardly know what's going on.

The film however does develop into a touching and sometimes horrific tale. The leads are both pretty decent and the interaction between an Aussie bogan and an timid Afghani woman is quite an interesting story in itself.

This won't be every one's cup of tea and it is definitely a different Aussie film, however it kicked a few goals for me and I give it three Aussie stars!

Saturday afternoon funny one

Strailya Mate

An Australian, a Kiwi and South African are in a bar one night having abeer.

All of a sudden the South African drinks his beer, throws his glass inthe air, pulls out a gun and shoots the glass to pieces.

"In Seth Efrikaour glasses are so cheap that we don't need to drink from the same onetwice," he says.

The Kiwi, obviously impressed by this, drinks his beer, throws his glassinto the air, pulls out his gun and shoots the glass to pieces.

"Wull mate, in Noo Zulland we have so much sand to make the glasses thatwe don't need to drink out the same glass either," he says.

The Australian, cool as a Koala, picks up his beer and drinks it,throwsHis glass in the air, pulls out his gun and shoots the South African andthe Kiwi.

He turns to the astonished barman and says,"In Strailya mate, we have somany bloody South Africans and Kiwis that we don't need to drink with the same ones twice!

Film Freak: Prince Caspian

The sequel to "The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe" is both visually spectacular (thanks to the lead "Prince Caspian") and a perfect fantasy film.

The story moves fast, however develops the characters and continues to explain the plot well.

The highlights are the battle scenes and basically any scene Prince Caspian is in.

I am definitely looking forward to the future Narina films.

Prince Caspian rates a fantasy 4 stars

Joke O Da Day

Two women friends had gone for a girl's night out; both were very faithful and loving wives. However, they had gotten over-enthusiastic on The Bacardi Breeze.Incredibly drunk & walking home, they needed to pee. So they stopped in the cemetery.

One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she would take off her panties and use them. Her friend, however, was wearing a rather expensive pair of panties and did not want to ruin them, but was lucky enough to squat down next to a grave that had a wreath with a ribbon on it, so she proceeded to wipe with it.After the girls did their business, they proceeded to go home.

The next day, one woman's husband was concerned that his normally sweet and innocent wife was still in bed hung over, so he phoned the other husband and said, 'These damn girls' night outs have got to stop. I'm starting to suspect the worst. My wife came home with no panties.' 'You think that's bad' said the other husband, 'Mine is lying in bed with a card stuck in her ass that says: 'Go in Peace, From all of us at the Fire Station.

We'll Never forget you. '

Mass time with the Altarboyz

Sunday matinee (Nana time) 15th June 2008

Well another show that has moved into the very popular little venue the See-More Save-More Centre.

This musical has been huge oversees and has received mainly positive feedback so far after opening last week.

The show clocks up an hour and half without an interval, with all singing, all dancing fun from five very different but like able leads.

Altarboyz hits all the right chords with the dancing, however some of the songs are lost in Catholic transaction. The boyz all look the part and work the stage and audience.

Some parts of the show are a little slow and other parts you feel like you are at a Backdoor Boyz concert or maybe even a Human Nature cover show.

Overall the show occurs comic relief and the timing could not be better, with the wonderful WYD 2008 on the horizon.

Altarboyz rates a very holy 3 stars

Friday the 13th: Apocalypso

The Presets, Friday 13th June 2008: Enmore Theatre

What better way to begin the weekend and kick on the party that is a Black Friday!

The Presets definitely kicked it at the first of two sold out Sydney shows.

The band (well Julian and Kim) are simply fantastic, they owned the crowd, they owned the dance floor and their set was simply perfect. All the old faves "Girl & the Sea", "Down Down" & "Are You the One?" were huge crowd faves.

The new tracks "My People", opener "Talk Like That" and "This Boy's in Love" made the crowd go into a frenzy, all these hot sweaty bodies moving to Australia's new kings of the Electro House music!

The Presets have a VERY bright future with at least three or four more big singles that could be lifted from the album.

I think The Presets will do incredibly well at this years ARIA Awards and continue to push units whilst this massive tour is on the road!

The Presets amazing live show gets a huge 5 electro stars!

That's it for now, this will be updated weekly leading up to my 18th birthday.

An Audience with the cast of Wicked

Well the next big musical to fly into Melbourne is Wicked and I was lucky enough (thanks DAME!) to be in this audience.

Anthony Callea and Rob Mills were definitely the weakest links next to old pro's like Rob Guest and Maggie Kirkpatrick. The two witches Lucy Durrack and Amanda Harrison were also present. Amanda is a fav after her work on Miss Saigon, I hated her character but she was very talented.

The show is going to be monster and I can't wait to see it next month, stay tuned for a full review!

Film Freak: Sex & The City

Well the years biggest and most anticipated film (well maybe behind The Dark Knight) is definitely one for the fans. The women lined up in droves to see this film is one frightening thought for most straight men, especially when the groups of girlfriends combines with a group of sisters for the night out.

This maybe every straight man's thought of hell is every woman's dream. The clothes, the shoes but definitely not the el-lamo soundtrack featuring Fergie and the weakest link of the film Jennifer Hudson.

The film is like a series of the show in around 2 and a half hours.

The films length is it's major downfall however the film is hard not to like. Samantha is FAB and the clothes and sexy men definitely make this film watchable.

The film rates 3 from the small screen to the large screen stars.

4. Drapht - Jimmy Recard
5. Jamie Liddell - Figured me Out

Check em out, cause their hot!

Mum's the Word 2: Teenages

Now playing at the Theatre Royal

Well I saw Grumpy Old Women and Menopause last year so I was ready for another female (mid aged) theatre show. Grumpy Old Women lacked something and Menopause really worked well (I think the no interval thing worked a treat!) and left you laughing after the final curtain call.

Mum's the Word may have also worked a lot before if it was one simple hour and a half act. The dancing to "Don't Cha" and "Soulja Boy" were funny, that bloody Soulja Boy really is a joke in it's self.

Over the trains going underneath the Theatre Royal always proving challenging for long monologues and the material is a little two familiar after two similar shows. The cast works well together and also in their solo performances, this is one for the old girls and definitely for anyone who thinks having children is going to be an easy task.

Mum's the Word 2: Teenagers rates 3 familiar stars.

Film Freak: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Well another large franchise revisited and I think this one actually works.

Harrison Ford does look old however he really plays the part quite well and Cate Blanchett is simply fantastic, it also helps that newcomer Shia LaBeouf is quite the cute side kick.

The action scenes in this movie are fantastic and the car chase scene is terrific.

This film really ticks all the boxes of a fun filled action film.

Overall this film is polished, fun and overall a great adventure, the new Indy rates four shiny stars!
