@ the Movies 2012 - Paranormal Activity 4

Yes today is Halloween so it only made sense I scared myself stupid with some Paranormal Activity last night.  This film is a sequel to the 2nd film and is super edge of the seat type stuff.

Again this franchise drops the gore and adds a shit load of suspense and big frights.

The new family are lovely and the technology used in this film is a far cry from the old school setting in the third film (which acted as a prequel and a "where it all begun" type film) this adds to the ever building tension and piss or shit your pants factor.

A sequel and a possible sixth film are already in the works so prepare yourself for another fright night in 2013.  Good grief, the suspense and tension seriously made me almost ill.  To add to that I barely slept a wink last night.  Yes this film stayed with me long after the credits (which you need to stay to the very end for) and good grief as my man departs town tonight I am home alone now for the rest of the week.

So is it worth the price of admission to the movies, well if you like real horror and not gore porn, YES, if you want something more horrific NO.  This franchise is great and I do in a weird way look forward to seeing the 5th film.

The last ten minutes of this film were super messed up, warning don't take small children to this.  Paranormal Activity 4 rates a scary as 4 stars.

Song O the Day #9 {LOON LAKE - CHERRY LIPS}

Coming to you out of Melbourne, it’s an indie group who have had a fair bit of success over the years with indie hits popping up on the radio and I am almost certain they have had songs used on TV shows or commercials.

I am talking about the marvellous Loon Lake and a catchy as pop tune for a sing a long @ your next BBQ, it’s “Cherry Lips”.

Take a listen below and I hope this is a mid week hump day slide of heaven to keep you going throughout the week.

Okay so until tomorrow, have yourselves a tidy sing along to Cherry Lips :)

Song O the Day #8 {DISCLOUSRE ft. SAM SMITH - LATCH}

TODAY is huge, it’s literally one of my biggest songs of the last couple of months, it’s two boys outta the UK who are fully rad, it’s Disclosure teaming up with Sam Smith for some “Latch” action!

Really this song is HUGE, it’s soulful, its banging, it’s just BIG and awesome!  I can’t say enough good things about the sharp production, the stellar vocals and the smooth fresh sounds all over this record.  Dance music should be smart (sometimes we all love to Gangnam from time to time) and should make you wanna learn the lyrics and sing at the top of your lungs while running around Sydney Uni, or hey is that just me.

This song is huge in the UK and fairly big here, it’s been a Triple J smash and I am sure Nova and Today FM may play this within the next 6-8 months.

I heart Disclosure, so if you want the most fresh dance sound in the planet right now, click play below:

Till tomorrow, good bye y'all.

Song O the Day #7 {TAME IMPALA - Elephant}

It feels like a good while since Tame Impala first came on the scene and now they are back with a real stomper (and truthfully when you hit play below and turn up your speakers you can almost sense elephants stomping, yes it's a total head fuck) and a back to form return from these young lads.

After global success there second (difficult) LP is here and it's titled Lonerism.

Here is "Elephant" for your Monday struggle, EHHHHH MONDAYS:

Hope you're enjoying my Song's of the Day, another BIG one tomorrow, a little preview, it's a Tuesday dance off of EPIC size, tune in tomorrow for the big reveal. Oh and well done to the Independents in Sydney, could you believe the Christians were trying to win the Sydney seat? Really?

Have y'all been around Sydney lately, it's a far cry from Adelaide and the city of churchs.

@ the Movies 2012 - Dredd

Oh action movies, oh 2012 you love an action film and the more graphic and realistic the better this year.  Yes 2012 has showed us real comic book movies with realistic deaths, big fight scenes and big action.

Dredd is another comic book strip coming to life on the big screen and it actually isn't dreadful.  It's a big budget (around $45 million) flick with big action sequences, lots of special effects and a BIG make up department.

I choose this film for a chilled way to spend my Sunday, chilled?  Maybe not but fun yes, I felt as though I was back in my childhood playing my Sega Mega Drive but no I was at the local cinema lapping up a futuristic sci fi action picture.

2012 has continued to bring us bucket loads of action films so is this worth your hard earned cash for the price of a cinema ticket?  Yes and no, if you don't like gore, steer clear, if you like well shot and good looking films, this is for you.  In this over crowded genre you need to stand out and make your mark and I think this film does exactly that.

Dredd rates a pass mark of 3 stars in America's less than bright future.

Song O the Day #6 {CALVIN HARRIS - Sweet Nothing (Ft. Florence Welch)}

We have all loved the Spectrum remix Calvin Harris did for Florence and the Machine, well now comes Florence's turn to repay Calvin for one of her and the Machine's biggest worldwide smashes.

"Sweet Nothing" to me is a strong contender for one of the year's biggest anthems, big production, big vocals and a huge chorus.

I love Calvin and Florence and together they can conquer the globe, Calvin Harris "Sweet Nothing" (Ft. Florence Welch) is a powerhouse club anthem for 2012:

With an album that already sounds like a best of, Calvin Harris's album drops really soon so get ready to check it out.
In the meantime enjoy Calvin Harris and today's song o the day! Will it be number one again tonight???

@ the Movies 2012 - DOUBLE WEEKEND FEATURE

Well hello weekend and hello movie cinema, yes the sun is shining, yes us Sydney siders have to vote AGAIN (thanks Barry O Farrell) and yes it's time to catch up on two very different films, one in Bonjour talk and one in Oliver Stone talk.

Let's go to France first for a touching real life story which will win the softies at heart and the old folks who love a film @ the Dendy, its:

This movie is so sweet and Omar Sy is a bit of a babe in a rough trade gone good kinda way.

I really enjoyed the Intouchables and so have the French it's been a huge film over in the frog territories.  And it's easy to see why, it's watchable, well acted and oh so cute.

You can't help but have a truly moronic grin on your face similar to the below:

Yes I don't want to imagine my readers looking like the above unless your wearing Speedo's and making more awkward remarks, oh Tony.

So the film gets a really nice star rating of 4 stars and if you need something light hearted and sweet this is for you, on the other hand this isn't:

Savages by Oliver Stone with an all star BIG budget Hollywood cast is a BIG film.  It's slightly homo erotic with the two dreamy male leads, and yes Blake
Lively is right this is a film where the men get naked.

It's rough it's tough but I enjoyed the ride that I went on with Savages.  It doesn't show you anything you haven't already seen on the big screen but with a great cast and some great lines and a wig to die for worn by Salma Hayek, you need to check out this film.  On the Saturday screening I just sat through I was joined by 5 others.  So yeah it's not going to be on at the movies for much longer.

Savages is a good film John Travolta looks dreadful, you can always tell some one's age by the neck and his neck looked 500 compared to the heavily worked on face.

Savages, it is savage but it's also a lot of fun, 3 stars for an all star (pretty hot bar John T) cast.

That's it for the movies, well for now.

Chat soon lovely readers XOXO

Song O the Day #5 {THELMA PLUM - Father Said}

The first time I heard this under 2 minute slide of heaven I was in love. Thelma Plum is one extremely talented young lady with an amazing voice and great song writing.

Take a listen to hear gem of a tune "Father Said":

It's the perfect way to chill on the weekend with some Thelma Plum.

What will tomorrow's song of the day bring? It will also bring another new countdown with three BIG new tunes for y'all.

Friday, October 26, 2012

Song O the Day #4 {PLAN B - Ill Manors}

Released on March 23 2012 Plan B's "Ill Manors" is the title track to the soundtrack to the film of the same name, yes that's a mouthful.

This is seriously the perfect Friday tune to get you pumped for the weekend ahead! Below features the original and some pretty beefy remixes:

Plan B and this particular tune was a highlight from the slightly lacklustre
Parklife 2012.

I am happy to announce Plan B's "Ill Manors" is today's Song O the Day on the lead up to the BIG 100 @ the end of the year, what number will "Ill Manors" come in at? Time will tell ladies & ladies.

Cheers to the weekend y'all, Randy Andy OUT!

Song O the Day #3 {ALPINE - Gasoline}

For Thursday we look to Melbourne to a great group by the name of Alpine. I saw them live last week and they are truly amazing, the two lead vocals are just wonderful.

The tune "Gasoline" is the most amazing cut from their debut "A is for Alpine". The album is magic but this cut is so hot it can't be ignored:

It's today's song o the day and for LA BOG here is some Rylan for y'all:

Not the best version but hey, how fun LOL TGIF for tomorrow and a new countdown is coming Sunday.

Song O the Day #2 {FLUME - Holdin On}

Today we go from yesterday's smooth as Frank Ocean to some amazing electro, it's Flume outta Sydney.

The new tune "Holdin' On" is pure and simple gold, I can't say much about this tune other than it's catchy from the first time you hear it, so grab a listen below and get addicted to the almighty talent that is Flume.

Until tomorrow, this is today's Song O the Day #2.

Light the Night PLUS Song O the Day - Part ONE

So Light the Night is a great benefit and they have now raised over $300,000 for research.  You can go online and check out the full line up that performed last night and donate some cash to this great cause here, a BIG thanks to the biggest witch in Sydney Marcus for a little ticket to the show in my preferred row of seating, 5 rows from the front and in the centre.

I must say my highlight and the vocally strong performer was Tom Sharah, what a voice and his efforts on "I Will Survive" will conclude tonight in front of what I can only imagine is going to be a rather small audience.

Okay so in the search for the year's best 101 songs which I will publish on Boxing Day, I have found well I have a HUGE list to go through so to help me I am going to each day until Boxing Day BLOG about one epic song of the year which may make my list.

Seth Sentry - Float Away

So some of those songs might not make my 101 BEST of 2012 but here is one I think will, his album Channel Orange is oh so sublime, it's Frank Ocean and for Day One, let's head to the Pyramids:

It's an EPIC 9 minute wonder from the album "Channel Orange", this tune was released on the 7th of June 2012 and has since rocked my world BIG time.

I love Frank's album and there is no doubt he might get another tune on the list pre my BIG ass countdown on Boxing Day.  So please give the song a listen and let me know what you think of this epic rnb masterpiece.

Bless this Mess it's Lisa Mitchell + Alpine

Australian music is really healthy @ present is along the lines of what Lisa Mitchell announced to a near full Metro Theatre last night.  And she was right with an ace double header of her fine self and Alpine straight outta Melbourne.

So I got to see both sets in full and I must say Alpine's album, A is for Alpine has been one of my favourite indie Aussie debuts this year.

The album features lot's of great sing a longs and it looked like the majority of the fans that night were there to see both awesome up and coming Aussies.

The two lead females works oh so well in Alpine's case with some killer tunes including "Hands", "Seeing Red" & my favourite "Gasoline", such a killer tune!

So Alpine were ace and next was Ms Lisa Mitchell who I loved Wonder and I really want to love Bless this Mess.

I haven't heard much from the album as I have been a little busy and listening to new albums has kinda gone out the window lately.  However the two singles are awesome, I loved "Spiritus" and "Bless this Mess" is classic Lisa Mitchell at her best.

The set played out well, with old songs in there, new songs in there and an encore featuring "Coin Laundry" and "Neapolitan Dreams", two of her most famous tunes.

It was with "Clean White Love" & "Oh Hark!" I was most excited, her album Wonder was so terrific, for a debut it had so much heart and so much promise.

Lisa is proving to be an Aussie force to reckon with.  Australian music is in a good little spot right now and to showcase this to you here is the current (right now) top 10 Aussie tunes (that are acceptable to the ears) on iTunes right this second:

10 - Missy Higgins - Everyone's Waiting
9 - Flume - Sleepless
8 - Sans Cisco - Wild Things
7 - Grinspoon - Passerby
6 - The Temper Trap - Trembling Hands
5 - Chance Waters - Young n Dumb (Feat. Bertie Blackman)
4 - Hermitude - Hyperparadise (Flume Remix)
3 - 360 - Run Alone
2 - Flume - Holdin On
1 - The Rubens - My Gun

What a diverse 10, dance, singer/songwriter, rock, indie & hip hop!  Awesome, for a full 20 countdown, tomorrow evening I will post a new chart for y'all.

In  the meantime Lisa Mitchell & Alpine rates 4 glossy all lead lady Aussie stars.

RE: Insight Trolls

So I watched Insight last night on the wonderfully multicultural SBS (we all know how much I love SBS PopAsia) and I found I still had no real idea of what a troll was, I always thought of a troll as a 90's fad:

But hey who I am, I just blog and review the shit out of some very average to very amazing films, gigs and theatre shows.  Now if you see as much theatre, film & live music as me your going to see some shit which needs to be brought back down a peg or two.

Unfortunately this whole trolling forums, R.I.P Facebook pages, Twitter is just not my thing so maybe I am not a troll and more just a possibly left leaning greenie from Sydney who enjoys good music and is not sure why Gangnam Style is not the Australia nor playing Homebake this year.  C'mon how much more fun would the whole Domain doing a flash mob to Gangnam Style be than watching Blondie (excuse me before I go back to sleep for another 8 hours).

Yes it's true I am no closer to understanding what trolls are and that means I have no idea what Charlotte Dawson's episode was all about.  But if you harass people online under a fake name well chances are your a loser who can't get their dick sucked.

Okay next up I will review the week's premium new music releases, so on this hump day be nice to one another don't be a loser and deface people's R.I.P Facebook pages cause that's just Alan Jones low and no one wants to be compared to that low life senior citizen.

@ the Movies 2012 - Mental

I wanted to like this movie so much, I heard great things about the movie and then I went online and read some reviews after viewing it and I have to agree with the other reviews. Mental on paper sounds good, but with too many plot lines and Toni Collette playing one or more of her United States of Tara characters I felt this movie was a little half baked.
The dream team behind the hit "Muriel's Wedding" had tried a bit of if it worked years ago it will work again in 2012. I really love supporting local music, local movies and TV but lately the latter two have been so disappointing. Kath & Kim's film debut was easily one of the WORST movies of 2012, House Husbands, Packed to the Rafters and Puberty Blues have all bee SAFE & lame viewing in 2012.
I think this movie aimed high but just failed to deliver, with multiple guests, multiple plots, multiple sagas all in one film, it had to be one hell of a film, unfortunately it wasn't.

2012 for me in Australian cinema has been the year of the Sapphires, Mental might just be one of those forgotten Australian films.

Okay so now it's time for the rating and you can't deny there is some strong actors in this film but the movie just doesn't gel, 2 stars for Toni Collette and the gang trying hard @ a mission impossible.

FUTURE MUSIC FRIDAYZ

It's Friday and what better way to bring on the weekend than by having a Future Friday Music meltdown. Look I've done a load of festivals and after Parklife recently festivals seem a little in the toilet.

But the Future Music Festival line up may even be bigger than the less than local Soundwave 2013 line up.

Yes this is BIG, fist up PSY, who you mean GANGNAM STYLE!

So I started off BIG, but hey what about THE PRODIGY, OMG:

REMIX style to a dude who can remix the shit outta stuff, it's A-TRAK

Oh how I miss Robyn, never fear AZEALIA BANKS has some sweet lyrics

Could this line up get any hotter, ummm seen DIZZEE RASCAL shirtless

Can we all get excited and make some noise for STEVE AOKI

Are you already dancing up a storm to these tunes?

RUDIMENTAL are ready to feel the love with you Australia!

And last from the line up it's an Aussie group I love GYPSY & THE CAT

Have a great safe weekend y'all, see you all again real soon.

The Great Gadsby

Nah not the Baz Luhrmann film coming soon which has the fully sick Jay Z & Kanye West in the trailer, but Hannah Gadsby!

Hannah has a new show called "Hannah Wants a Wife", which is playing until this Sunday @ the Comedy Store. And hello the lovely Craig @ the Comedy Store.

Anyway onto the show, my second intake of comedy this week at this fine venue.  The Entertainment Quarter is a strange place it's kinda like unless Cirque is out there or there is an event @ the Hordern or Hi-Fi the place is a ghost town.  I like it for that very reason, no trouble getting a trouble @ one of the most likely struggling restaurants, no line for a take away coffee pre show. It's pretty chilled and the perfect place to check out some mid week humour.

Direct from the set of Adam Hills most recent show, Hannah comes on stage and shines.  It started a little slow but I realised after seeing a super pro like Wil on Sunday or earlier on the inform and seasoned Judith Lucy, it does take a while to warm up and once Hannah did, well.

After seeing a blah movie the night before this was just what I needed and no via the name of the show this had nothing to do with that damn dreadful Channel 9 show.  What is with bogans and reality television, thinking A) they will have a successful recording career (hello Altiyan Childs) B) a husband or wife or C) just prove to the nation and abroad you are a complete twat.

Anyway Hannah was kind of like wise art smart chick in your office who has a sharp tongue and is actually well educated something that I am pretty sure after this serve, you found Tony Abbott lacks.

This image is so wonderful, you can just see Tony going, great my wife now needs to hit up Sunrise and maybe have a highly influential chat with Kyle and Jackie O,  Chris Pyne on the other hand, pretty sure he is thinking about updating his grindr pic and profile.

So yeah Hannah is smart, well spoken, like Wil does some great impersonations, speaks the truth, speaks honestly about truly awkward experiences and really to me that is a talent, if you can make fun of the most awkward times in your life, your a top chick or a good bloke.

I have been to comedy where I forced myself to laugh as part of the whole, "I'm @ a comedy gig I think I'm meant to laugh", there was none of that tonight, Hannah was top shelf and you know with time may have her own ABC so, cause you know looking around her audience was pretty diverse, from the lesbian mafia to the gays (all coupled by the way) and the ladies who just liked to laugh and think I wonder what it would be like to go downtown.

Great fun night, 60 minutes in and out and I laughed and enjoyed Hannah's wicked slides.

Hannah Wants a Wife, well if I was a lady with short hair, I might well put my hand up, cause in a relationship and the hard times you need to laugh, and this lady who can lift 250KG with her legs, simply delightful.

I have hit the 5 star rating a bit lately and I need to keep good levels, so Hannah is still super solid with 4.5 lady killer stars.

@ the Movies 2012 - Taken 2

Oh boy Liam Neeson is back for what could be the worst sequel of 2012.  Yes the money grab sequel, the movie that doesn't need making, the sequel that leaves original movie fans sitting in there seats saying "WHY!".

I sat in my seat @ the end of this film saying Why! and also Famke Janssen is looking a lot more clapped out than her 2010 Nip/Tuck days when she played a tranny, yes a man who turned into a woman who in real life was a woman, oh Ryan Murphy you're a card.

From clever (Nip/Tuck) to just plain stupid Taken 2, the reviews have been ordinary for this film and there is a reason.  The movie is completely stupid and really any clever individual could imagine how the lives of the characters from Taken (the original film) would have lived long after the first film.

So one of the men from the first movie had an angry dad, the angry dad takes on Neeson's family, who you find out a lot of boring back story before they head OS.

Americans never travel well but this movie has Americans just chucking grenades into open spaces and stealing taxi's and just plain being crazy outside of there own crazy land.

Now this movie was clearly made cause the first film was such a success, why that movie was a success is basically because it had a gritty nature, real action scenes and no formula, the sequel was like watching another formula driven season of Underbelly.

Taken 2 a very average action film and not a great sequel, 2 stars for Hollywood greed.

A Shower Journal from here to HELL

So my shower was apparently (i.e. the fuckers downstairs had a wee bit of water leak into their apartment - therefore my whole shower gets guttered) broken and leaking.  So here is how I have gotten around keeping clean and a big apology to anyone I work with as I am pretty sure I stink right now.

So first up it was showers at the gym and you know if all gym showers looked like the below I would have been at this years ago.

However that is not really the reality, the other reality is going barefoot in random showers equals months of athletes foot.

Now don't get me wrong but showering with peoples old discarded water bottles is not my idea of paradise, nor was showering at a lovely local Sydney pool.

This was more due to the amount of cock and balls on offer, it was insane.  I am a gay but there is only so much cock n ass you can see in one 10 minute wet patch.

Why is showering so weird in front of others?  Why is getting naked so weird in the world of easy access porn and Chatroulette?

Oh how I miss my shower so I wrote a wee poem for y'all at home with your fancy, clean and personal showers:

Sweaty balls
Hot men with small or weird shaped cocks
Obesity has nowhere to hide
Wet, damp, weird shit
Everyone get naked now!
Resist the urge to stare
Soap, make sure you don't drop the soap!

On that note, I'm off to Spin class and then another really public shower FML

The Comedy Store IS Wilarious

Wilarious is the new show by comedian, ABC host and former radio announcer Wil Anderson.  So some background first, I never really enjoyed Wil Anderson's partnership when he joined Adam Spencer on JJJ breakfast.  I haven't ever watched the Glass House nor the Gruen programs, so basically I wasn't a huge Wil lover.

However after seeing the new show, I can now say I am a 100% Wil Anderson fan and I will definitely be looking forward to his next show.  He worked the room extremely well, he over shared about his own life and he viewed society much in the same way I did and you know in this day and age I do feel a little too soft to live in Sydney when I share the same foot paths with the below low lives.

I feel in the last week it has shown Australia and the greater human race does not support vile characters and therefore I should have more room on the foot path if the above and below could and should be removed from society.

Ok so end of rant, in brief if you continue to listen to 2GB & 2GAYFM your probably supporting the end of the world as we know it.

So back to Wil, his show run so well, his storytelling was amazing and the whole crowd was right behind him.  Wil is a big fan of trying to be a better person by small acts of kindness (or as he said something young people have no idea of, MANNERS) that are free and take anywhere from 2 seconds to 10 seconds.

Now after Parklife last weekend (the future of the world is bleak if these young people have anything to do with it) I learnt manners, self respect and dignity all have left the Generation Y building.  Don't get me wrong I am so for Girl power, but wearing demin underwear in public and in front of 20,000 not a real good look ladies.  Men, we have all needed to wee, but pissing in front of 20,000 in a central location, not behind a tree or in a dark spot, really?

So without further ranting (yes the world currently needs work) Wil Anderson is on at the Comedy Store for another couple of weeks, get along this show might just change your life, really!

I am sorry to have doubted you in the past Wil, but this show gets the the BIG 5 stars for the big man. WELL DONE WIL, you are Wilarious

@ the Movies 2012 - On the Road

What homo erotic nonsense!  No On the Road is not just one big gay fantasy although with the below cast it almost feels like it:

Okay warning to all film goers for this film, it's one long road, not s short trip up the road it's epic and long.  The road seems to be endless but does it resolve what it sets out to do?  Not really is the answer in two words, I started confused, I left less than satisfied and I felt it was just one big romp with Kristen Stewart getting her boobs out way too much for my Twilight eyes.

So "On the Road", don't do what I did and see a 9pm session as you will be welcoming in the new day and walk out thinking, gosh I feel like I have seen a heap of America in one sitting.

Road movies can be awesome and this has moments of being awesome, but it is also really drawn out to in parts.  The characters are mostly self destructing but enjoyable at the same time.  Speaking of the cast it has a pretty stellar line up, it just for me was a big effort and a big time investment which without all the gay references and near homo erotic moments I would have drifted into a deep slumber.

On the Road, big efforts and good looking men but not much else 2.5 hairy chested stars.

Why is there so much good TV out right now??

So the new American TV season has started and boy has it started!  New Dexter, new Revenge and a flood of new seasons to excite a couch potato like me.

And Glee has really stepped it up this season, with great numbers, a huge number of guest stars and some interesting story lines.  Usually I would get cranky that they are about to have four weeks off but I need a break to catch up on his other show American Horror Story which second season starts this month.

Ryan Murphy from Glee also has a new sitcom which looks quite good, it's called the New Normal and so far seems to be finding a bit of an audience.

Over in the UK the X Factor is about to get into the live shows and so far there is some very varied fun talent so look out here for some clips from the show.

Now my thoughts on Dexter, EXCELLENT start to season 7 (the second last ever season) and Revenge, it could shape up to be great but I really would have liked only one season of this soap, there was a lot to catch up on in episode one and I don't know if it did the first season justice.

Keep an eye out for my television reviews coming soon and on Sunday my BIG ass countdown.  Until then, happy hump day, gotta love long weekends!

Tu-Plang + Unit in FULL {Regurgitator live @ the Hi-Fi}

Oh dear the long weekend is now a long distant memory and boy did I get my share of live music.

Last night I invested two hours into seeing Regurgitator spin out their first two records in full. Tu-Plang I was less familiar with but Unit has always been one of my favourite Australian albums of all time.

The gig was filled with a totally different crowd to the disgraceful sight that was Parklife.  It was an older more chilled crowd who showed in the Gurge's louder moments they still liked to ROCK!

They opened with "I Sucked a Lot of Cock to get Where I am" which was amazing, the highlights of Tu-Plang were "Blubber Boy" & "Ku Foo Sing".

They had a short break before coming back in silver jumpsuits to do Unit in full.  The album was flawless and was filled with hits.  The gurge played them all and had a great time doing so.

Quan was also looking a little to sexy to be almost 40.

The show was a great slice of 90's nostalgia and I really enjoyed myself, I think gigs win over festivals in 2012, the long run of festivals being popular I think is now over.

The live show last night @ Sydney's new Hi-Fi (looks amazing by the way) rates a classic 4 stars, well done Regurgitator

Long Weekend Bloggin' - PART SIX {Sydney One, Melbourne One and album of the year nomination Number Three}

Melbourne beat the Bulldogs, by the same margin as the AFL 10?  WTF, someone would have won a lot of money in the 2012 sports gambling obsession.

Yes the scores, Melbourne (14) V Canterbury-Bankstown (4), Sydney (91) V Hawthorn (81), wow strange or just a fluke???

Okay so well done Melbourne, I have always had a soft spot for them (or a hard spot if your talking Cooper Cronk) and out of the two teams very happy for Melbourne to beat Sydney in a Sydney sport and Sydney to beat Melbourne in a Melbourne sport.

Now to my main love (no it's not Cooper Cronk) music, after my delayed Sunday chart, my Parklife views and now in the 10th month of 2012 it's time for another BIG album of the year nomination.  Yes it's a big one.

It comes after two Australian albums that have really killed it this year, the Hilltop Hoods for "Drinking from the Sun"

Say what you will about Aussie Hip Hop, but the Hilltop Hoods have achieved many great things in 2012:

- 4 great singles, the lead single teaming up with SIA for a double Adelaide love fest.
-  6th studio album and has now been certified platinum (sales in excess of 70,000 units) and reached number one.

Next the lovely Missy Higgins who is selling out shows left, right and centre.

Again say what you want about Missy but she has great stats:

- Massive live show sales and as a witness to this show she is in amazing form!
- 3rd studio album and has now been certified platinum (sales in excess of 70,000 units) and reached number one, all three albums have done so.

She is hard to fault our Missy and now an album has come out that is so perfect it deserves an album of the year nomination, it comes all the way from the UK it is the dreamy XX with "Coexist".

Yes it's a mega basic album cover by the lyrics, the production, the vocals are simply sublime.  Listening to the album "Coexist" you can transport yourself from a busy street to an island holiday destination.

I loved "Islands" from their debut album and this album featured the dreamy "Angels" which instantly broke my heart and showed the XX are simply amazing.  Jamie XX has remixed everyone from Adele to Florence & the Machine and Radiohead.

This album is going to be a musical memory I will cherish from 2012.  So the XX my third album of the year nomination, the album of the year will be published on Boxing Day 2012 (Dec 26).

It's going to be hard to find the winner and with the final three months ahead there could even be more nominations.

Until tomorrow enjoy your Monday off NSW readers.

Long Weekend Bloggin' - PART FOUR {PARKLIFE}

It's been sometime since my last music festival, maybe December last year when I was less than impressed by Homebake.  Parklife was a different kettle of fish, the crowd was very different to a Homebake crowd, the artists mainly dance/pop & the venue the sunny but cool in the shade Centennial Park.

I ended up seeing one of my new favourite acts Charli XCX sing her two hits "Nuclear Seasons" & "You're the One" before the weather started to cool right down.

Next on my viewing/listening radar was Wiley who I saw back when "Wearing my Rolex" landed on Australian radio and he played the Metro Theatre to no joke 25 people. He seemed slightly more popular yesterday in the fading sun however I found him only playing 6 songs a little poor.  The highlights were "Wearing my Rolex" and the new hit "Heatwave".  Oh well Wiley you at least played to more than 25 people this time around in Sydney.

Oh I almost I took in a bit more UK Hip Hop/Rap before Wiley it was Plan B and between the covers etc he performed I heard live a song that gives a bit of a kick on the radio but live, WELL "Ill Manors" great work Plan B.

Then it was time for some NERO also from the UK (wow I was really giving home grown talent a go yesterday) and they did for the large part disappoint.  It was only until the four singles kicked in at the end that it was worth sitting in the now freezing Centennial Park, can I hear a FUCK OFF Winter!

"Promises", "Crush on You", "Must be the Feeling" and "Me and You" were all ace, it kinda made up for the dull start to their set, however I did leave thinking gosh all there songs sound the same.

Then we took in some Justice DJ set and by this time it was really like hurry up Robyn, with four layers on this festival is killing me.  Mind you most of the younger (than me) crowd were in another realm it didn't seem to faze them.  Gosh I had never seen so many sniffer dogs before.

As it was also time for Robyn to grace the stage we took in the last Passion Pit number "Little Secrets" before another 30 minute for Robyn, by 9pm I expected snow, Sydney put on a freezing cold night when it could have easily been the middle of July.

By now Robyn came out and oh boy she actually made it worth the while!  She started with a mash up of two tunes, "We Dance to the Beat" / "Don't Fucking Tell Me What to Do", then a wee sing along with "Fembot", an oldie "Cobrastyle" and then the moment of the day "Dancing on My Own", the crowd was singing and dancing like freaks to this mini Swedish pop princess.

The sing a longs continued with "Indestructible" and then the cold became too much and as we left the park lands "Be Mine!" was in full swing.  Robyn was clearly the highlight of a day of ups and downs and a strange vibe at a festival.  Maybe if it was in November and warmer and all the girls didn't wear the same shorts where butt cheeks, tampon strings and pubic hair where visible it might have been a more amazing day.

As we made the pilgrimage out of the park we heard Robyn doing a stellar cut "Call Your Girlfriend" and the Presets from a far doing an old tune medley (as there new album is clearly not that great) "If I know You" & "Are You the One?"

So for Robyn and for all the music lovers out there Parklife, was it a sign music festivals really are on the way out or should all festivals just be in the warmer months either way the people selling the Parklife hoodies would have definitely made a rather big pay day yesterday.

Robyn (yes she is a queen) and Parklife rate 4 stars (3.75 of these stars belong to Ms Robyn).
