Nothing Fancy.... w/ Judith Lucy

I saw this show in it's preview/early stages and it was amazing.  Now after many months of touring it around the shop Judith decided to drop by the Concourse @ Chatswood.

I had never been to the Concert Hall @ the Concourse and it was a great experience.  The venue was super jumpin with middle aged, ABC watching ladies who enjoyed hearing a woman talk open about her very own lady garden.

Yes Judith Lucy does not shy about talking about her box or anyone elses for that matter and she embraces the fact that she is the way she is which is nice.

Her comedy style is great and she added a real large amount of audience participation into the show now it was complete.  This went on for a while and I don't know how she did it but she picked Chatswood's finest. Latecomers, teenagers, parents bring their teenagers, no one was safe.

So on the second last night of winter 2012, Judith really kept me warm with great tales and funny stories.

I must say comedy done well is a great night out and I can see Judith still being in this game for some time.  New comers come and go but Judith is simply blissful (note to the ABC please give her another series) and an extremely wise woman to boot.

That said, "Nothing Fancy" is pretty fancy in my books and so was the Concourse, Judith rates 4.25 STARS.

Happy Friday all and tune in this weekend it's a double countdown weekend with:

Saturday - Winters Coolest Twenty
Sunday - The Week's Bangin 20

Until then happy Friday and oh Angry Anderson did redeem himself a little on episode two of "Go Back to Where You Came From" but he still is a massive bogan.

C.U.N.T.S

What a week for them and Carrie Bickmore really put herself in it last night on Ten's flagship news and current affairs program:

I mean who doesn't think that Qantas is being run into the ground by this tool

And we were reminded how much of a charmer Angry was on Tuesday night (see you next Tuesday Angry)

And we always have this national treasure that I am sure Carrie Bickmore likes to C bomb all over the shop about!

So really I'll leave it to the true C bomb lover my home girl, my GUUUURRRLL Azealia Banks y'all rule my world

Oh Tony, Tony, Tony

Is Tony Abbott Julia G's biggest asset, he got served recently on 7:30 and then Channel 9's (usually lazy journalism) struck again.

GOLD, now watch little Lisa W go after learning her ABC from Leigh Sales

In other news the ground breaking series "Go Back to Where You Came From" returned for series two last night. God I love this show, you want to cry, I wanted to punch Angry Anderson and Peter Reith, you want this whole boat people rubbish to be cleared up.

I always knew Angry Anderson was a has been bogan pub rocker who hasn't had a hit for decades but I never knew he was a complete c%$t.  I am assuming his chance at getting gigs and work after this show will be restricted to the Shire and maybe Rooty Hill RSL.

You can catch more Go Back to Where You Came From tonight on SBS.  On the other end of the Australian TV scale was "I Will Survive".  Oh boy, it's getting bad, the ratings in week one where horrid, now week two I think the sliding will continue and we may have "Everybody Dance Now 2" on our hands.

Channel Ten just really can't catch a trick right now, thank god for Puberty Blues as it's the only performer out of all their "new" shows.

Coming soon to the BLOG more hate for Angry Anderson (maybe, maybe not), Judith Lucy live from Chatswood, the 20 coolest songs of Winter (yes Winter ends this weekend!) & this week's BIGGEST songs for the 2nd  day of Spring.

@ the Movies 2012 - The Expendables 2 {PREVIEW}

The Expendables 2 is the number One movie in America, oh boy!  This movie has some amazing lines "Rest in Pieces", "We all belong in a Museum", they poke fun at their age and their past movies, "Who's next Rambo?".  It's big it's violent and it's funny seeing these aging action stars try their hands @ the 2012 action market.

A third movie is already being planned and why not this is killing it (literally) in the States.

I saw the first movie in Thailand and this movie as a early preview before it opens this Thursday.  Can I recommend this film?  For action buffs it's great, big action sequences (all well filmed), a huge range of BIG stars, great stunts but the dialogue as above is juts horrid, it's best when there is no talk and more action.

Aussie Liam Hemsworth joins the mega huge cast including and not limited to (wait for it) Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Sylvester Stallone & Jason Statham.  So it's a big cast and Hemsworth is really doing extremely well for himself.  So I thought I would go retro and get some pictures of these men back in their prime:

Jean-Claude Van Damme

   Sylvester Stallone

So there you go, RETRO for yo Tuesday.

A big thanks also to a certain Marcus "Queen of the Night" for the tickets, very enjoyable film with a laughing audience.

So my rating, it's kinda so bad it's good, 3 stars for the retro stars.

The upcoming release schedule for Australian releases is simply insane over the next few months, Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson are back with another married couple release and it's set to be huge.

They are also touring so check it out y'all

Kinda Australian, kinda French, kinda cool, it's new and it's Adelaide gone Euro take two with David Guetta pairing with Aussie indie songbird SIA

TZU are back and this could be dubstep?

Grinspoon are coming back with new music real soon, the album is here late September and the first single Passerby is on the radio and out now, here is a look and a peak at the new album cover:

Something For Kate are also out with new music the same day as Grinners and there new disc will be call "Leave Your Soul To Science".  They are putting out there album not only the same day as Grinspoon (Lismore's finest export) but Cody Simpson as well good grief!

How can SFK and Grinners go up against Cody Simpson and the god awful new disc from Muse.

Tame Impala land a new disc in early October and oh boy do they have a hard act to follow, here is the titanic stomper, "Elephant"

Bertie Blackman is coming back with a new release so look out world

And speaking of ladies and Australian royalty in music we can look no further than Sarah Blasko coming out with a new album October 26th with "I Awake", I can hardly wait for this album to drop, just in time for Christmas, what a stocking stuffer.

@ the Movies 2012 - The Campaign

I have never liked Will Ferrell (yeah I know a lot of you out there love him, but blow me, this is my blog) and Zach Galifianakis like most of the acts on Everybody Dance Now is a bit of a one trick pony, so this is going to surprise you.

I really enjoyed this comedy, yes I was overdue to see a film (it's been well over a week since I caught up with the fab Sapphires) and I do love well done comedies and this movie falls into that category.  Zach Galifianakis is great with his beautiful pugs and the two wives are marvelous.

The whole star studded (Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd & John Goodman) are amazing, the movie really flows and really if your under 90 minutes your a good film maker.  You also have a neat editor cause 86 minute films are too rare in 2012.  Why go on and on for 240 minutes about nothing, why not make a 86 minute laugh a thon.  Well that was being generous, I hate to harp on but it's no Bridesmaids.

So The Campaign is a fun night @ the pictures and really a notch above the other Hollywood comedies lately.

The Campaign rates a smutty 3.5 laugh out loud stars.

NEW MUSIC - HELLS Yes it's Monday!

This was ripping it up while I was in the motherland country, so it's no surprise pre Parklife Wiley is bringing a massive SUMMER JAM!

They supported Kylie (yes the one who was popular on Neighbours) and now they are back with a big hit, it's called "Sorry", they are Gyspy & the Cat:

"Levels" was a HUGE hit for Avicii, he is back with a new number to set your dance floors ablaze!

These Guys can do no wrong at all, it's the amazing Rubens:

What can I say about this crazy South Africans; except if you are easily offended do NOT hit play or Else, your face will melt

"Feel the Love" is one of the BEST dance tunes of 2012, can Rudimental follow it up?

I also have a fetish right now for Swedish POP and this is DOPE!

Last but way not least, the XX are here to stay with this lovely number.

Dance the Way I Feel all the Way to the Weekend

One more sleep till my Sapphire fuelled countdown tomorrow PM but in the meantime it's time for the much talked about TV scoreboard and then the final holiday photo moments.

So it's been a HUGE week for TV this week in Australia and it has already found it's BIG first victim, Everybody Dance Now.  Which inspired me to check out an amateur dance event last night @ the Seymour Centre called NØCTURNE it was really fun to watch some young and up comers be inspired by dance and enjoy all sorts of movement.

So the Score card, SBS still continues to shit me with ad's in it's programs and hasn't really had much of interest on this year so they rate 5th on my TV radar just above the digital channels combined.

In fourth place we have the almighty ratings success of the Nine Network, yes they have rated highly with Big Brother and Underbelly is not half bad but after viewing some questionable content on ACA and the whole vibe of the station, I am rather unimpressed by Channel Nine and I believe this lucky strike of big shows is coming to an end and it is questionable that their debt will be paid off in time.

Third goes to Ten for trying so hard with Dance Now and also Puberty Blues.  This doesn't excuse their cancellation of the Circle and the horrid Breakfast show, not to mention the Project getting just more and more horrid.  Will be interesting to see how "I will Survive" goes next week, like Dance Now it's covering a lot of programming so figures crossed for Ten it's not as shit as the new Kate Ritchie show that also launches next week.  The Shire has also been shafted back to a later time slot, surprise, surprise.

Second goes to Channel Seven for one reason and one thing only, The Australian Amazing Race, great reality casting, great locations and a heap of fun.  The X Factor already looks tired despite Guy Sebastien getting better looking and doing a tune with Lupe! WTF!  I am more excited for the US X Factor featuring none other than Ms Shit Me Spears!  EXCITEMENT PLUS!

And number one for keeping it real, with no ad's no rubbish no hype, it's yes the ABC, at the Movies with David and Margaret is such a staple in my weekly TV viewing.  They have renewed Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries which was a surprise Friday night hit earlier in the year.  The Slap is still one of the best Aussie series in years and they are one station steering clear of reality bullshit coming out of Sydney's Shire.  So happy my taxes go towards keeping the ABC around.

Now to my own Amazing Race:

See y'all again tomorrow night, but in the meantime time COME ON SPRING!

End Your Week with the Best n Worst in New Music

First up some album reviews:

I thought Expatriate had split up and disbanded a long time ago, I thought they had vanished like so many classic indie Aussie acts who have that one killer track and then boom they are gone, but no Expatriate are back with a new disc which just dropped. There debut disc was released in 2007 so it's been a long time between drinks but are there fans still loyal and read to have a drink with Expatriate?

The opening three tunes "Miracle Mile", "By Design" & "Dangerous Stranger" are totally promising and enjoyable, they have all the indie cred and a great full guitar sound.

"Love Away" is a catchy little ditty that could just get stuck in your head and would totally make a wicked driving tune along a long Australian freeway, you can also hear evidence they worked with the same producer who has also lent a hand to PNAU and the Killers, yes Mr Andy Savours.

After reading multiple entries and other reviews about them I learnt they have spent a lot of time OS and with UK group Placebo so there band name kind of explains there absence from Australian radio/media.

"Easier" is a haunting, longer tune that feels like someone has been listening to a little bit too much Nick Cave, while "On The Inside" increases the tempo back up again and reminds me of their earlier material, there is also parts that make me feel like I'm listening to an old school Placebo tune.

"Skool" & "Kunstkopf" are great little pub Oz rock tunes you could imagine having a beer to at the old Annandale. "World To End With You" is a sweeping almost U2 sounding rock ballad, giving the Australian band a very international to their latest set. So the verdict, rock isn't my favourite genre but listening to this on a cold winters morning was exciting, the thoughts of live music festivals approaching, sweat, sun and fun, "Hyper/Hearts" breaks no new ground but it's nice to have the boys from Expatriate back. Well done solid set.

You can buy Expatriate Hyper/Hears online at Getmusic

2012 has seen many exciting new artists emerge, some Australian and some international acts have really turned it up in 2012. Unfortunately Darren Percival is not one of those. Now my music tastes sway a little more towards the dance/indie/pop scene and these rehashed unoriginal set of songs really failed to impress.

After listening to fellow contestants albums, De Bono and Leahcar this one was more listenable than Leahcars, slightly more consistent than De Bono's but I still wonder who will be interested in Darren Percival at the end of 2013. The thing about the Voice airing so early on in the year and not getting a Christmas album release meant the show is already at the back of most peoples minds come the biggest time of the year to buy music (yes people still buy music and don't only rely on the torrents) at Christmas.

By doing this these Voice "albums" (I use the term album loosely as they are 10 track, 30 minute cover albums really) will more than likely be $9.99 in a bargain bin at some far corner of the JB Hi Fi store. I know people may find this a negative view of the mass TV produced artists but it's reality, we only have to look at the Anthony Callea's, Casey Donovan's, Altiyan Childs & the Reece Mastin's of the world.

So back to Darren Percival, I really wish him the best he seems like a nice bloke but in 2012 is there room for Michael Buble number 407?

Buy Darren’s Percival’s Happy Home online at Getmusic .

Now TZU are back and going Dub-STEP, WTF?

Mumford and Sons are back with this killer folk jam:

Rudimental the "Feel the Love" guys have dropped "Spoons":

Muse are proving they are just becoming pure shit with this tune (if it can even be called a tune):

And finally to get your Friday started!

And last by not least I for one was offended Toni Collette did a CBA (their profit margin was insane this week!) so here is a nice parody:

But don't gamble those almost as soul destroying as advertising one of the big four wanks of Australia.

TV Wars Round Three + More Holiday Good Times

So the war has begun and the shit shows have started rolling back in like "Farmer Wants a Wife", I think "Farmer needs a Makeover & a Prostitute" would be a more exciting show.  Or after ACA the other night "Farmer wants a Mail Order Bride".  How fun, the bogans could learn about other cultures, languages and get away from other bogans on a reality show which I have no idea why is still doing the rounds.

Also I saw the tale end of the Shire last night, Fuck My Life, why are these people on TV?  There is a reason people from the Shire stay there and only come into the city to attempt to hold down a job or on Friday/Saturday nights if there local joints are at capacity to try and pick up some trade.

Now I have known folk from the Shire, nice enough but usually if they are out of there comfort zone (God's Country) for too long they go bat shit crazy.

Anyway enough of the shit, oh hang on, Why oh Why I am still watching Big Brother?  The gay, the Greek Miner, The Nerd, The Wannabe Vet/complete creep and the Male Model.  Oh did I forget the bogan who is anti bogans?  Seriously people these men are the most boring men I have ever seen, thank god for fact they are all in the house and my curiosity can now end.  I am officially saying it's time to go Big Brother.

Now to last nights debut and boy do Ten need this to be a hit, Everybody Dance Now is on life support and facing being shafted to Eleven or the axe before the end of the month.  Puberty Blues had an awesome cast and with some funny old school language this really is a gem that I am surprised Ten has produced.  After months of Masterchef and now Masterchef All Stars, their god awful Breakfast show and the declining Project.

Channel Ten in my mind has launched the best of the new shows however I am really unsure of how Dance Now will fare they are up against some big programs from the other networks and they just might have to replace it with the interesting "I Will Survive" which I now can't wait for.

Back to Nine and I got my teeth into the new Underbelly and I really enjoyed it, yes the formula is totally the same as the last four, it's all good times for the bad guys first, the police are baffled, but we will see, and with only 8 episodes this year I think this could totally hold my attention.

So with today's round I will be back with a scoreboard on Saturday for the networks but for now to some happy holiday times:

More Holiday Pics to come, hey is it Friday yet y'all?

Holiday Times 101 & a TV Scoreboard

So I have been back for a pretty long time now and it's time to share some photos with y'all.

Okay so more holiday pictures in a couple of BLOG entries, and as the massive amount of new TV continues to roll in, there are plenty more entries on the way and as of today the scoreboard is:

Channel Ten - One BIG point for Everybody Dance Now (even though the ratings are terrible this is the best talent show I have seen in months)

Channel Nine - For ACA's clear racist story last night and the lacklustre Big Brother revival they sit on zero, however the ratings for BB are unreal and the ratings for the new Underbelly titled Badness (like what?) went off.  I am currently half way through the first episode and it's not half bad (LOL).  So tomorrow Channel Nine may be on the Scoreboard.  Can't stomach the Kerry Packer show this week though.

Channel Seven - After watching one of three of the final Amazing Race episodes, this rates and I have really enjoyed their trip through Canada, so Channel Seven on the scoreboard with One too, it's a dead heat with Ten.

Coming Soon, an epic countdown plus the week's most amazing releases and some album review that will blow ya mind y'all!

Happy Hump Day!

TV Wars - Round Two (ACA = Australian Cultural Ambassadors)

So it was night two of the BIG new shows and let's face it after a forty five minute POWER SPIN class I was ready, I was excited for some Big Brother for some more Everybody Dance Now and some hard hitting current affairs (oh wait I'll come back to ACA) Q&A.

So I am keeping a tally of how the networks are performing and I will unveil this at the end of this post.

So first up the writer on the SMH site who wrote about Everybody Dance Now, yes it wasn't perfect, yes Murdoch is not a great host but lady, you can say something is shit in a couple of paragraphs not an essay and attacking the ad's scheduled? Lady let your fingers do the walking whilst reading 50 Shades of Gray.

So yes I am all for Everybody Dance Now even after night two, mainly because Big Brother (like Dance Now - terrible host), such an anti climax. I found this so lame and lacklustre, your ad's where so grand, the revival so exciting and then at 7pm after ACA, well I was thinking, this won't last the full three months unless it's on GEM or GO. So Channel Ten 1, Channel Nine 0, and Channel Seven, you'll get your chance when I catch up on The Amazing Race Australia (which has been great thus far) later this week.

But to the low light of the night, how can older Australia's ask for younger children to be accepting and non judgemental when I kid you not this was the promo for tomorrow night's dreamy episode of the Redneck Wonderland edition of ACA "Tomorrow night a woman tells of how her husband went shopping and returned with an Asian Mail Order Bride".

So on that note I am waiting with baited breathe to see how the ACA story goes down as I was struck down with laughter that this is a current affair when there is a serious issue of immigration, house prices, global warming, violent attacks after hours but mail order brides and racist attacks, that gets the good old fashioned racist Channel Nine viewers going.  Shame on you Channel Nine, I feel a prank call coming on.

TV Wars - Round One

So in the USA TV has been brutal this year with key shows been cancelled or finished up, Gossip Girl will finish in weeks after it's sixth series and the CW also cancelled intriguing Revenge style RINGER which I just finished and loved until the rather lacklustre conclusion.

I am currently watching another one season wonder The Secret Circle which is like the Craft but in TV format.  Watch this space for my strong opinion.

The River was also an interesting cross between Paranormal Activity and Anacondas which also got cancelled over at the ABC.

So last night the BIG new Aussie shows started and surprise surprise many of them fall into the reality genre.

A show with Kelly Rowland, should always shine as she is excellent in these talent show type shows. She was the saving grace for the UK X Factor last year and I think next to Jason deBoredom she will shine again.

So how is the show? With the first viewing, good, I enjoyed the acts and thought it was a much better idea than So You Think You can create a sob story.  This was it no blind singing divas, no bad childhoods, just dancing, GOOD!  No offence the Voice but your sob stories were completely boring as bat shit.  Good on K-Mart for heavily discounting De Bono, Percival and Leahcar's albums.

Now DeRulo?  He is smoking hot, well in these pictures

He did however come across as bore and slightly disinterested especially when Boylesque were on LOL

So can Everybody Dance Now succeed with a sea of talent shows just rounding up and X Factor around the corner?  Time will tell and time will tell for TV Wars Round Two, it's Big Brother tonight on Channel Nine, and The Amazing Race Australia rounds up this week after three BIG nights, Underbelly is back also tonight and of course Q&A heats up again on the ABC.

@ the Movies 2012 - the all Singing, all Dancing edition

Step Up 4: Miami Heat

So after 4 movies is the Step Up franchise ready to hang up it’s dancing shoes? HELL NO! I loved every sequence all the bad acting and the hot bodies gyrating around for under 2 hours and enough to make me want to take up dance lessons and make protest art.

Yes protest art and protest dance what a great new genre! LOVE it! Imagine an Azealia Banks tune going sick and doing some dope as dancing in protest of the Carbon Tax, Gay Marriage, The Circle Being Cancelled or even Why on earth did Rachel Leahcar feel the urge to release an album of serious nonsense.

Okay so the film, paper thin plot, hot dancing, big soundtrack, great remixes and some amazing sequences which really did blow my mind. They went for no major stars this year and that worked well, and you really did enjoy the great cast that was selected, mainly for their looks I’m thinkin’.

So is it great or is it one for the DVD machine, well I saw the 2D version as I am not a huge 3D fan, but the sequences, shots of Miami and the sexy bodies need to be seen on the big screen. I highly recommend this if you can check your brain @ the door and just sit back and enjoy this amazing dance fest!

Step Up 4, still as fresh as ever and definitely the best dance franchise around, I’m going go high this time 4 stars for movie number 4.

The Sapphires

Wow what a film, it's got it all, singing (go the Mauboy), dancing and a great story @ the heart of this film (created from a terrific play) and when I say heart it's got loads of heart.

This can be compared to Bran Nue Dae which was an all star Australian musical on the big screen but this is bigger than that, it's epic it takes on issues of racism, war (set in the Vietnam war) and love and loss.

The issues are there but really this could be the feel good/comedy of 2012.  So great to see an Australian movie shine and really be a general public film, everyone is going to love this the Australian Idol/X Factor/ the Voice fans for Mauboy, the Australians who love a good actor/actress in Mailman and O'Dowd and the Australians who like to laugh (and not only @ 12 year humour but good old fashioned comedy).

This movie had me smiling from ear to ear it was just divine.  A really fun, great looking and sounding film.  Mauboys vocals were exceptional, the soundtrack will be a must own once you come out of the film humming "I heard it through the Grapevine".

All I can say is this is just delicious.  4.75 All Australian stars, well done team!

NO Blog Tuesdays

Morning Australia and beyond,

I am super excited tonight that I finally get to see the 4th Step Up film which I will review for y'all tomorrow here in the AM.

Aside from that the Australian film to save the industry is released this Thursday which is mega exciting!  Yes the all singing, all dancing Sapphires is finally upon us, support local talent and check this baby out from tomorrow.

The other Australian film on every one's lips is the Kath & Kim feature which I am excited/nervous for (we all remember how bad the last series was on Channel Seven and don't even go near the US version!), so let's see the trailer for a quick sneak peak:

And finally for some TV news (cause other than my Channel Ten rants there has been very little of this) and some of my favourite new and old shows finish up soon.  It's the finale of the first rebooted season of Dallas this week which should be good, it's been a good drama, not great but good and renewed for a very exciting 15 episode season 2.  True Blood is on the countdown till another big season finale and you get the feeling the bodies are going to start piling high, yes the character count is outta control and Alan Ball is also heading towards the door, here is a sneak peak at episode 10 "Gone, Gone, Gone":

A lot of people have found True Blood has lost the plot a bit this year, I'm undecided I've enjoyed bits n pieces, it's left the books way behind but I am hoping they introduce were-tiger Quinn ASAP.

Until tomorrow happy Hump Day!

@ the Movies 2012 - Cosmopolis

When a film is truly awful I hardly feel the need to write a review on it, cause basically a large portion of the population understand Robert Pattinson is not a great actor and nor does he pick good films to show off his lack of acting skills he has picked up in his short (and hopefully if he keeps choosing films like this, his career will remain short and not so sweet) and trying career.

Cosmopolis is easily the worst film I have seen this year, it was dull, lifeless and depressing as all fuck, I mean I did a spin class and was pumped up before seeing this pile of utter shit.  Oh well I said I wouldn't go on about it, I should have known Robert Pattinson steer clear @ all costs.  A quick rating before I talk about more important news, Cosmopolis rates -1 stars, yes negative cause this film is a negative piece of shit.

From disgusting Robert Pattinson (what do the Twi-Hards see in him, he is as white as a ghost, he looks shit clean shaven, he looks like a 40 year homeless bum with stubble, he is A grade N-A-S-T-Y) to this wonder of the Olympics, two words MARCEL NGUYEN

Yes this 24 year old half German, half Vietnamese god is pure GOLD in my books.

Not so much pure gold was what I was thinking after tuning into the Preset's new song "Ghosts" for the first time, I hope it grows on me:

Finally onto a serious note, I am not a negative person and I do apologise for the review above but that was two gruelling hours of my life I'll never get back.  And to be serious violence for the sake of violence on a day when in America, another gun man goes crazy with legal weapons.  It is heartbreaking no one in that country has the balls to stand up to the gun fuckers cause basically the blood is on their hands.

It's 2012 America, mental illness is rife and allowing people to walk into their local Walmart and buy weapons over the counter is just something that I personally think is completely nuts.  Wake Up America before more people lose the most precious gift of all their lives and their gift to love.

Okay I'm off my soapbox so to recap, Cosmopolis is to be avoided @ all costs, Marcel Nguyen is someone I want to dip in chocolate, the Presets new song is kinda lame and America again has gun problems and no one is big enough to bring up the gun debate so close to an election.

Good Night Australia.

An Olympic Sized Countdown + a Special Tribute

His back and not singing about his waitress this time, from Melbourne it's Seth Sentry.

I love this album, it's out Friday and this song is just amazing, check it, it's gonna be HUGE:

From Perth, Tame Impala are with an Elephant sized tune:

This is super cute, I really dig it, it's Aussie and it's sing-a-long central:

From Brisbane Ball Park Music are doing it again with a treat called "Surrender":

And finally it was a drama filled week @ Channel 10, first they cancelled the Circle causing a HUGE out cry from the Australian housewives, then came the realisation that axing the Circle was probably not the smartest choice when their Breakfast show is a ratings disaster and the host is a complete C*%t.   Channel Ten when I was growing up had a line up including some killer programs, Melrose Place, Models Inc, 90210 & The Simpsons (when it was good).  Now we have Masterchef (wake me up when the Allstars edition is over), The Shire, Being Lara Bingle & the Bolt Report.  It's really coming down to dumb blonde's, fat chefs & boring Kiwi hosts.   The Circle made major news this week being cancelled and I think Channel Ten may lose even more viewers, I think the ABC will continue to be the Number 3 station and Ten might fall behind SBS soon.  Sorry Channel 10 you were cool 20 years ago now your just.. well lame, maybe you should have left Yasmin's Getting Married on????

Did I just get Brain Hacked???

Well did I, on Thursday evening I attended a brain hacking exercise, now it sounds weird but it was like a mix of magic/comedy, weird mix, fun night out.

So what is Keith Barry, well the news over the last week has been largely about the Olympics BORING, who gives a rats snatch, but also taking centre stage was the axing of one of my personal favourites, the Circle:

So now you've viewed this, it really was a load of fun checking something so different out.

I must say I went in with a vacant mind (as I have had a serious tummy problem this week) and I just sat back and thought nothing but amazement for this dude.  His Irish accent and fast speech is also engaging as if your not tuned in you'll miss it.

So Keith Barry, what are my final thoughts, amazing, awesome and mind blowing, I have never been so glued to a stage (well maybe @ the Roisin Murphy gig @ the Metro years ago, Roisin if your reading (and I know you are) new music please woman!) so I have to give this a super high rating, not five stars like Batman but 4.75.

Tomorrow a MASSIVE countdown plus a special tribute and some NU music for your ears.

TGI Friday's NU Music

Here are some CD's I reviewed whist/during/pre/post holidays and it's time to share them with you, tomorrow just a sneak peak I got totally brain hacked last night so I will let you know all about my new Irish friend Mr Keith Barry.

First up, let's get POP!

The Wanted

Self Titled   I was recently in the UK and these boys are big and this is kinda the boys "Best Of" after only two albums as this features material from their two albums "The Wanted" and "Battleground", kinda a good idea and a good way to make a way into international markets. The first two songs make me wanna love boy bands again (well actually I never did get the Backstreet Boys and NKOTB thing, was always more of a Peter Andre kinda guy) "Glad You Come" is a massive pop tune produced by Steve Mac who has produced so many over the years including Australian own Sophie Monk! "Chasing the Sun" is fun and makes me yearn for summer so hard after recently enjoying a bit of a Euro summer myself.

The high energy continues with "All Time Low" and you think I wish more bands would combine the best bits of two albums, saves hitting fast forward through all the fillers. The next tune "Satellite" builds nicely to yet another high exercise gym friendly number that cranks in around 3 minutes, the whole album hits you in just under 35 minutes.

"Lightning" is totally camp including the line "I know it's a little bit frightening we might as well be playing with lightning" love it LOL, also produced by Steve Mac whose production is featured heavily on this poptastic record.

"Heart Vacancy" is a bit of a lighters up in the air anthem, the tempo builds again on "Gold Forever" another perfect pop tune, "Lose My Mind" if you listen real close at the start totally steals a little bit of "Use Somebody" from the Kings of Leon and this comes back in and out of the tune, clever thinking boys.

"Warzone" is another slower jam that nearly winds up the ten track album, "Rocket" finishes off the release and shows sometimes pop albums really can work. This 90% killer "pop" succeeds with solid production and few "filler" songs. Well done to the Wanted.

The Wanted hit Australia next week for their promo tour. Buy their album The Wanted online now at Getmusic.

No to some of the ladies from the Voice:

Rachael Leahcar

Shooting Star   Oh boy, when listening to Rachael Leahcar's album you really wonder how does such a young girl like such daggy old songs. Unlike De Bono who choose fun/current tunes for her debut Leahcar has really chosen some songs that would help almost any sleep deprived individual into a complete coma. The opening four songs proved an old point of mine "I love local music a lot but this isn't local music this is local anaesthetic.

She does have a lovely voice though and you may dig this kinda thing, but I found the songs particularly the covers just horrible. You really just want to do an extreme make over for Rachael and tell her honey it's okay to sing songs for your age, Adele sings songs that appeal to everyone from 8 to 80 but they are age appropriate not has been songs like "Over the Rainbow" and "Hands".

It surprised me to read this album debuted at number 5 however the surprise was quickly taken back by reading the album has slumped back to number 108 on the iTunes chart. Unfortunately for many TV talent show contestants this is the grime reality of your literal five minutes of fame.

Let's just hope Rachael discovers a way to rediscover herself for disc number two.

Sarah De Bono

No Shame

To say when I looked over the ten tracks covered on this reality stars album I was really excited was an understatement, some of my favourite songs covered by this runner up from series one of the Voice. "Warwick Avenue" and "Heavy Cross" awesome tunes by Duffy and Gossip respectively but how did De Bono go with them? Well I must admit I was never a huge fan of this series, I found the judges a little too kind, the song choices a little off and everyone who knows me knows that Lisa Mitchell is definitely the best thing to come from reality TV or maybe Matt Corby if I need to choose one of each sex.

So the Gossip cover was a little flat, if you have seen Gossip live, Beth Ditto is one BIG personality and the voice matches, and De Bonos voice just didn't match it. The Duffy cover, it's better than the Gossip cover but only marginally. There are two originals on the disc the single and title tune "No Shame" & "Beautiful" which I originally thought she was taking on the big number from Xtina. The originals are okay and have slightly impacted the national singles charts but nowhere near as much success as the Winner.

The Usher cover also a favourite tune of mine (yes guilty pleasure and who can't imagine Usher singing this to you and you totally melting for that hot piece of man action) was really a low point of this album, I thought it was Rebecca Black making a guest appearance, scary.

I think overall De Bono has a great look and with the right marketing and time she could be a star, but right now this felt half baked and a little rushed. Looking forward to seeing what her second release is like and possibly her live experience.   Buy Sarah De Bono’s album online

More new music coming Sunday with a freshly brain hacked twenty big tunes.
