Reaction: The 2012 Homebake Line Up

So there are many music festivals on the horizon and yesterday morning the excitement built for an all Australian music festival which has been an institute at the start of December each Summer and then the line up dropped.  We will get into that soon but let's look at some of it's competition so far, the Big Day Out has been on-sale for a while but not sold out could it be because of the line up:

Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Killers
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Vampire Weekend
Band of Horses
The Bloody Beetroots
Kaskade
Animal Collective
Sleigh Bells
Foals
Alabama Shakes
360
Crystal Castles
Grinspoon
Against Me!

Not bad but many of the acts have been here done that and the new Killers music is not exactly been received well.

Next we go to last year's most successful festival Stereosonic:

Tiesto

Avicii
Calvin Harris
Example
Carl Cox
Major Lazer
Laidback Luke
Martin Solveig
Diplo
Flux Pavilion
Mr Oizo
Tommy Trash
Van She
Beni

They have done well in getting all of dance music's royalty.  Calvin Harris has had a bumper year and Avicii is the new dance king.  I predict a sell out again.

Lastly we got a pretty lame line up from the Falls festival:

The Flaming Lips

Beach House
Best Coast
Boy & Bear
SBTRKT
Sampology Presents a Falls Anniversary AV Show
Coolio
The Vaccines
Bombay Bicycle Club
First Aid Kit
Hot Chip
Hilltop Hoods
Maximo Park
Millions
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

Let's just hope they have a massive third announcement.

Now to Homebake, so I was excited and then I heard it on the radio, first up an international act as the headliner, and a washed up one at that?  What is going on with festival line ups this year.  After a lot of them (excluding Stereosonic) selling poorly you would think you would put a little more time and effort into securing a strong line up and the below is hardly strong:

Blondie - Why?  They toured recently and last time I checked they weren't Australian.

Tim Minchin - Snore
Hilltop Hoods - Great Album, good choice however there seems to be some other big Aussie hip hop names from 2012 on the list (Illy, Seth Sentry, 360, Hermitude and more)
Kimbra - Saw her there last year, really bad sound, let's hope that is fixed this year.
Angus Stone - Love the album could imagine falling asleep to him if he gets a late slot
Julia Stone - Ditto like her brother, although the new album is patchy at best.
Birds Of Tokyo - Slightly tired of this group, do they even have new music?
Daniel Merriweather - New music please Mr Merriweather!
Sam Sparro - Not really your usual Homebake artist, 2nd album died in the ass
The Saints - Your average 18-25 year old is currently wondering who the fuck?
Something For Kate - New album in September, verdict will be out then.
Sonic Animation - Great late 90's dance into the naughties but are they still relevant?
Shape Shifter - Don't know this Kiwi group.
Six60  - Don't know this Kiwi group.
Jinja Safari - Like on the radio, no idea of the live show
The Bamboos- Like on the radio, no idea of the live show, at least most of the guest artists are on the line up too.
Tim Rogers - Yeah alright Aussie music royalty right here.
San Cisco - Interested in seeing this one.
Emma Louise  - Interested in seeing this one.
Pond - What about Tame Impala, that could have brought a few people into the Domain, Pond's album is one of those great lost albums that most people never hear.
Ball Park Music - Could take them or leave them.
Seekae - Could take them or leave them.
DZ Deathrays - Interested in seeing this one.
Diafrix - Could take them or leave them.
Husky - Could take them or leave them.
Full Tote Odds - Could these radio favourites deliver a sell out?

So there we have it a less than exciting line up, how will Homebake go, what is it's future?

Tomorrow on a lighter night I will be reviewing Magic Mike!  Yes Magic Mike!
