Film Freak 2011 - Horrible Bosses

After the week that was last week Horrible Bosses was the obvious choice for a Sunday night movie, but was it any good? Well yes and no. Nice to see such a star studded cast and actually nice to see Jennifer Aniston being a dirty mole (I always thought she was).

So Horrible Bosses and the Hangover, they are almost the same idea with crazy situations and seeing how the boys get out of these crazy situations.

The supporting cast is good with old gems like Donald Sutherland and Kevin Spacey.

Okay so I had some laughs, I do like a gross out comedy and in news today a free screening for old farts upsets many and sent them grabbing there walkers and heading for the door.

So with Jennifer Aniston saying pussy and being nasty this movie can get a tidy 3.5 stars

Film Freak 2011 - Friends With Benefits

I am so in love with JT right now he is just the bees knees although this movie didn't live up to all the hype and good recommendations I had heard.

Look it's basically just a ROM COM trying not to be a ROM COM and then it ends up being a ROM COM with a ROM COM ending, oh how many times can I say ROM COM???

So in all it's good, there is some dance sequences tick for my approval, there are some funny lines and some interesting characters but you feel like characters like Woody Harrelson's gay co-worker & Mila Kunis mother Patricia Clarkson are not given enough screen time.

Anyway all and all this film is killing it at the box office and if I didn't hear so much good stuff before I saw it I would have enjoyed it more.

Friends with Benefits, rates a friendly but not overly friendly 3 stars.

Neighbourhood Watch - the REVIEW

So Belvoir has had a HUGE year in 2011 kicking off with Geoffrey Rush's "Diary of a Madman" speaking of Mr Rush, he was lucky enough to sit next to me and my entourage at this very production.

Robyn Nevin as the lead in this play was simply flawless, she played a wonderful old wise, witty and woman of the world.

This play was one of my favourites of 2011, it had humour, raw emotions and great acting. I can't recommend this enough however to bad so sad, the season is completely sold out and winds up this Sunday the 28th of August. However if you want to see Robyn Nevin in something else she will star in Summer of the Seventeenth Doll alongside Luke Ford, Steve Le Marquand, Susie Porter, Yael Stone, Helen Thomson and Dan Wyllie.

This one begins 24 September through to 13 November.

Film Freak 2011 - the Guard

Starring Brendan Gleeson as Sergeant Gerry Boyle this film, The Guard will be released here shortly and after a packed out preview screening last night, it is true everyone loves a free movie and it was nice to be in a packed cinema after a lot of sessions I have been attending lately have been super empty.

Anyway back to the film, it's an Irish comedy, mystery, drama, crime film, with some funny one liners and a dirty old police officer in Gleeson and also stars American FBI agent Don Cheadle. The America's won't like this film as it largely makes fun of American culture and people.

This film has a nice and simple approcach and does deliver and it's only just over a hour and a half mark but it still lacked something for me. The main character was too similar to the grumpy old man character in the Gran Tarino film and also Up (yes the kids film).

Okay so the Guard was rude, crude and funny in parts but I can't see it being everyone's cup of tea (and they drink a lot of tea in this film). I will be nice today and give the Guard 3 stars for some good one liners.

Film Freak 2011 - Captain America (not the 3D version)

After seeing a heap of action and comic book movies already in the last bit Captain America was a little bit familar and a little bit overdone and not to mention long. However Chris Evans had a way of keeping your interest and as did Hugo Weaving.

I really also liked the supporting cast Tommy Lee Jones (god he is looking clapped out though), Hayley Atwell & Neal McDonough.

The action scenes are amazing however the long times between action and long drawn out conversations can be a bit much.

A sequel is already in the works and the main thing I think they need to work on is running times, action movies really do only have a screen life of around 90 minutes, maybe 100 but over 2 hours is a bit extreme, mainly as we all know there are now 20 minutes or more of previews, ad's, promos etc.

Overall it sounds like a negative review but Captain America is good, just not great and when there are so many action films and so many superhero films it takes a lot to stand out and say look at me!

Captain America, it's not a bad film, just not a great film, 3 stars.

Film Freak 2011 - Glee: The 3D Concert Movie

Seeing all your favourite Glee characters on stage and in a theatre was fun I must say and the set list was 5 star! However what got me was the parts of the movie in between the sets of songs. There was this raw group of different people telling their stories and this almost made the film/concert experience as it connected with you and brought two people I was with to tears on multiple times.

Glee is now multi media, it's on iTunes, it's at the local cinemna, it's on DVD, it's almost everywhere and with season 3 startign next month this is the perfect time to release this. With their recent concert series getting 99% attendance it was a smart movie bringing this to the big screen.

The songs as I said make this also with "I'm a Slave 4 U" a monster highlight with some bad ass amazing dancing, "PYT" my fav Artie song, "Born this Way", "Teenage Dream" and many more sing a long favourites.

This was fun and pure and simple good fun. Don't go if you want something deep (see Bridesmaids), I can honestly say this was a surprise favorutie for 2011 for me, season 2 reached new heights and new lows for the series but this worked and worked well on multiple levels.

4.75 Glee-Tastic stars.

Windball Baby not Plug in Baby...

Downstairs Theatre
28 July - 21 August

Play for another week and lucky to come around when Muse are set to release a new album hence my Plug in Baby title.

Anyway who cares about Muse not me...

Windmill Baby is a truly remarkable one woman play and a simply amazing and inspiring piece by David Milroy. You laugh, you hold back tears and can't help smiling at Roxanne McDonald as she is a truly terrific actoress or is it actor, eeehhhhhh

Windmill Baby is a 75 minutes of pure joy in the red dust at Sydney's Belvoir Street Downstairs Theatre.

I have to rate this 3 and a half stars.

Funny ha ha it's Josh Thomas @ STC

Finishing his run of his latest show "Everything Ever" tonight as we BLOG away and I watch the ABC news he has grown and now has quite a large following! The following comes in all shapes and sizes, gays, young girls, Ruby Rose lovers...

So back to the show, one hour plus a Q&A style session at the end means a tight set and a great show. I watched highlights of his "Surprise" show on the plane recently and I enjoyed this way more as it went into all aspects of his young and interesting life, from twitter fueds to family dramas and boyfriend jokes.

Josh Thomas has a very bright future and with a growing fan base and a steady TV job I think he will be around for a long time to come. His ability to laugh at himself and everyday life is amazing and a real talent.

He is geniune, funny and most of all real. Josh Thomas "Everything Ever" is everything a comedy show should be at Cate B's house is totally the place for it. 4 stars.

Film Freak 2011 - Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Go I love James Franco, he is so amazing and well totally hot! But to the film at hand Rise of the Planet of the Apes, this film is..... AMAZING!

I found this movie just so simply mind blowing with awesome special effects and the glory of James Franco and the amazing John Lithgow (after his scary perfromance in Dexter).

This is going to be hard to beat for the blockbuster of 2011. The action scenes are amazing and the build up is just terrific. The scenes at the end are just amazing and so well done.

I must say it is long but is just such an enjoyable film to watch you almost don't notice. I really hope for a sequel as it totally leaves it open for it.

James Franco is easily 2011's sexiest man alive.

True Blood Episode 8 preview - Hell Yeah MMMMMHHHMMM

Film Freak 2011 - Montevideo: Taste of a Dream

THE STORY: “Montevideo, Taste of A Dream” is a story about the extraordinary feat accomplished by young Serbian football players who will turn into genuine stars. They will be idols of their nation and true legends. The story follows their journey from the cobblestone streets of impoverished Belgrade neighbourhoods, their local football matches and an array of challenges they face, up until their departure to the first FIFA World Cup in Uruguay,1930. Inspired by faith, hope and vision, they become a team prepared for great deeds; the initial doubt that surrounds their personal and professional lives is transformed into great friendships, promising love affairs and most importantly a united decision to prove themselves in Montevideo. The film is designed as a long-owed homage, a testimony about a time in which, among all other things, a small Serbia became great thanks to football and its football players.

The Review - a cute feel good and enjoyable film which I really loved being treated to the yummy food and free shit before the film. It always makes a film if there is free shit invovled. So there fore movie + free shit = 3 stars.

“MONTEVIDEO: Taste of A Dream” screening at Cinema Paris from August 18

Hot New Aussie Music - Flight Facilities - Foreign Language feat. Jess

Flight Facilities - Foreign Language feat. Jess is great and the video does the song total justice featuring roller skating disco goodness!

Can't wait to hear more new music from Flight Facilities in coming months as this guys have alreay impressed with "Crave You" last year.

Saltimbanco - Cirque du Soleil - ACER Arena

Now Playing until - August 14, 2011

So I saw my first Cirque show years ago under a tent how a circus should be, so does a circus type show work at a large venue which feels like your in an aircraft hanger? Well simply and easily, no.

ACER Arena does at the best of time lack atmosphere and after sitting front row for my last Cirque show Drallion in a great tent, sitting on a second elevation direct to the stage felt a little distant from all the action.

The show itself also felt a little old hat after seeing a show before and also seeing (what I believe a much better show) the Moscow Circus countless times. There seemed to be a lot of filler and not much killer content. Their was a bike rider who was great, but most of the acts we have seen it all before and it didn't feel like as an audience you were experiencing anything new.

It didn't help that the venue was almost at only 40% capacity.

I would have to mark this one down as I think in a tent and it's usual Cirque set up it would have been a lot more engaging and not so lost in a massive almost empty space.

Saltimbanco rates 2 stars.

Film Freak 2011 - Hanna

A film from the UK, USA and Germany starring two Aussies as the main characters HUH?

Okay so Hanna has a bit of Kick Ass in it from the get go and with a 16 year old girl as a killing machine how is trained by her father Eric Bana. Cate Blanchett was also a great addition to this film as the "bad guy" and really wore her wig with total respect.

This film was filmed wonderfully and the pumping soundtrack provided by the amazing Chemical Brothers just made the film, when a film has it's visuals and music going for gold it is so much easier to like a film. Only Tron Legacy recently tried their hand at using a major dance act to do an exclusive soundtrack which sort of blew much like the dodgy movie. I think more movies should take on this approach of using a particular artist to do an entire soundtrack.

I know it has been done in the past but I think this is a great idea for today's recording artists to link in with the film world. At least people are still seeing films and this will get music to live on and reach a much larger audience.

Back to Hanna the movie...... The movie has a confusing storyline but again with it's visuals and the Jersey Shore style fist pumping soundtrack you just have to enjoy this movie.

It's action sequences rock, so for that and the talented young Saoirse Ronan this film rates 3.5 kick ass style stars.

MASSIVE NEWS

On July 28, 2011, True Blood was renewed for a fifth season to air in summer 2012

Today is the best day EVER!

Film Freak 2011 - Bad Teacher

Okay so after a female gross out movie like Bridesmaids, Bad Teacher with the dreamy Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz has a lot to live up to.

And missing my favourite line from the trailer as below:

I love the first line in this clip, LOL I am so 12.

Okay so to the movie, Cameron Diaz and Justin are great, the other star is Phyllis Smith she is fantastic and her delivery in the film is perfect. Also ace is Lucy Punch is someone you actually would punch if you worked with!

Some of the lines fall flat but a lot is funny and rude, I love a rude film. This movie has been a monster smash and made only for around 20 million it has already pulled in $178,375,000.

Jason Segel is the only annoying and rather lame character in Bad Teacher but other than that I was happy with this film and this may be a film I buy on DVD once released.

Bad Teacher rates 3 and a half rotten apples.

The Holiday is over - Sad Face

So the 2011 road to Texas is now over and I am sad and happy all at once. Being back in the world's greatest country is lush, the attitude at shops (no sucking up like in North America), kids swearing on the streets out loud, catching up with the final two Angry Boy episodes, oh Australia.

In coming days photos galore coming....

In the meantime how good is it to have new music from Rebecca Black

Loving this song sick!
