@ the Movies 2012 - Chronicle

Can a movie be so bad that it makes you appricate all the good films you usually see? Chronicle is not a bad film it's just strange. The whole shakey camera thing gets a bit old, FAST! The storyline has many holes in it and the action sequences are sometimes cut short with little or no explanation.

Like at the end of the day it's not terrible it just wasn't my cup of tea of what I was at all expecting.

The film has done well at the box office being made at a budget of $15 million, it has already taken in $95,884,963. So not bad for a small science fiction film.

But like my review for Gone what does one expect at the movies, it did take me far away (not as far away as some of there strange flying scenes, which if you have travel sickness BEWARE!) and the final scenes sort of tied the whole thing together.

With a lot of films on the horizon this film was lucky to come out before some of the below films:

So Chronicle rates a sci fi 2 and a half stars.

@ the Movies 2012 - Gone

So I am seeing some really bad reviews for this film and rightfully so, it is shit house but can a movie be so shit that it actually is highly entertaining? So a movie experience is meant to be a distraction from everyday lift and when attending a movie like this and you don't have to think if you have seen the preview as once you've seen this dreamy preview and watched the first five minutes you can basically put the pieces together of this trashy thriller.

Amanda Seyfried has done some crappy movies and Jennifer Carpenter is good in her minor role, when she was on the screen I kept thinking god I can't wait till Dexter is back.

So it's a crap movie, but I was really entertained, Amanda Seyfried is likable and with a paper thin plot and a story seen oh so many times before I could really relax and have nothing else on my mind and felt no need to think or use any part of my brain.

So I can score this a pass of 2 and a half stars.

A number of reviews in one live from the unemployment banana lounge

Yes so live from:

So last night I sat through Claire Hooper who performer the final of a series of trial comedy shows, the first being the amazing Judith Lucy, the second the sort of average Tom Ballard and then the new Mix 106.5 breakfast host. So now Mix 106.5 is Sydney's daggy station, not so crap as Triple M, but no Nova 969 and definitely not top rating Today FM. Not that I know why anyone would listen to any of the above stations.

Now I wanted to like Claire, she seems sweet and innocent and really naive, the sad thing is naive is not what a comedian should be. I felt like saying "oh love" when she dropped the F bomb, it just seemed wrong coming out of someone so sweet and innocent looking. Judith Lucy on the other had saying the C bomb is like her saying hello to the audience.

It is always sad too when a comedian gets very few if any laughs, at times the show was really lost and I know it was a trial but reading directing from a script is a little weird as was the intro to this show, which really didn't work. Claire I wanted to love you but you did indeed bore me and honey I'm on the unemployment couch and watching some bad TV which is where I am going now.

My Kitchen Rules, FUCK off outta my life, I watched it once with my parents and now I find myself looking for it on the TV schedule.

So from My Kitchen Rules, I am now sitting her watching the very funny Kitchen Cabinet from ABC2. Oh dear and the first guests were Amanda Vanstone and Christopher Pyne, gosh what a couple. I've always hated Amanda Vanstone and Christopher Pyne is he gay? He sometimes like to speak like he has a massive night of bum sex the night before. He is a strange man and Amanda Vanston well let the below do the talking:

Fuck me, U-G-L-Y you ain't got no alibi you UGLY. Good grief, the poor dog.

Anyway so trashy TV I love it. Let's just hope the Straits on ABC1 picks up tonight the past few episodes have been just dreadful. and I so love Aaron Fa'aoso & Firass Dirani, so now for some handsome photos:

Okay so rant over and if you think I've got me cranky pants on (well actually I am just wearing a singlet that needs a damn good wash) I don't I am super chilled, and super excited that this time next week it's the final countdown to my Bali Party :)

Better Later rather than never documented

Some mighty fine Youtube moments and random bits:

Oh Kevin, you cranky little man:

NEW! Santigold!

Dance your way into hump day with the 2 BEARS!

How good are the 2 Bears! Love it sick, such slick production.

So can't wait to see this film and what Dexter star pops there head into this one:

That's it for now, catch y'all soon, PS Bali next Friday, excitement!

@ the Movies 2012 - The Grey

Wow the movie reviews are coming thick and fast now I have a little time to myself :)

So today's feature film was "The Grey" starring the terrific Liam Neeson, I am so excited that he will be in the Dark Knight Rises. But of course as the lead he is the clear standout and just terrific in this mighty fine action film.

The terrors the 7 men in this movie go through is amazing and the tension is just terrific. The ending is a bit incomplete but it is also nice to leave you guessing a bit.

This is definately survival of the fittest and I am proud to say this film well and truly deserves it's 4 outta 5 snow filled stars. Go out and see The Grey today, it's one for the movie theatre.

@ the Movies 2012 - Safe House

Denzel Wahsington and Ryan Reynolds really serve it up in this not so normal action thriller. Instead of the usual USA based car chase run around run of the mill action film, this film is based in various parts of Cape Town and yes the different location really counts for something.

This film has a real action feel about it too, it's no Green Latern for Ryan Reynolds, with real action comes real punishment as seen in this film.

The plot is fine as is it's twits and subtle turns but the real winner is Ryan Reynolds for his return to form.

Safe House is really nothing new or original but it's a decent film and one I can honestly recommend in the crowded action genre. Let's face it, it looks a damn sight better than "This Means War".

Safe House is a safe bet but a good film underneath it all and rates 3 action packed stars.

@ the Movies 2012 - My Week with Marilyn

- Actual film released in 2011 (UK Only, Australian release 2012)

OMG this film is just lovely, Michelle Williams (not to be confused with the Destiny's Cild member) can do no wrong, she was in the disturbing Blue Valentine with Ryan Gossling a little while back and she simply shines in this film. She shines so much brighter than any other Dawson's peoples like James Van Der Beek and Mrs Tom Cruise Katie Holmes.

And not only does Michelle Williams shine so does Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Dougray Scott, Judi Dench and Emma Watson. This film is a class act and getting great reviews around the place. David & Magaret this week just loved it sick and so did I. It's a fantasy love story but then you rmemeber this actually happened.

It was a really well done film, not too long, and just so blissful to watch, I found myself smiling from ear to ear like some silly school boy!

I can't flaw this film and I have to say to you, you want romance go see it, you want a well done drama that doesn't drag on, go see this, you want fun and good times SEE THIS. So get it, go see it, it's just delicous.

4.25 star studded stars.

It's been a year & a day since this GEM came into our lives

Happy Friday one and all!

The Big Showtime Shows Start Soon

Here's a quick look at some TV highlights to come:

Gosh with good stuff like this coming soon, how will I keep up to date with Excess Baggage and My Kitchen Rules (side note - why do gays on reality shows always have to be such complete fuck knuckles?)

All I can say is why???

@ the Movies 2012 - A Few Best Men

- Australian Release date 2012

So I finally saw this home grown comedy and well I must say it had it's moments, Olivia Newton-John was FANTASTIC, not only can she take the piss out of herself but she played a coke fiend very, very well.

There is somethinh about Xavier Samuel that makes him watchable and interesting, Rebel Wilson is also entertaining as a fake lesbian.

The show moves along well however the laughs are a bit few and far between in parts. The sheep comedy gets a little tired but all the cast look like they had fun.

Overall this Aussie comedy does shine and it looks a hell of a lot more appealing than the over advertised "Any Questions for Ben?", I almost think they have more billboards for that movie than the Channel 9 belly flop "Excess Baggage". And on that heavy note the wait if over for this films star rating and it rates 3 stars.

Post Valentines Day & Going Coastal

Gosh it can be said that seeing flowers and as Kylie would sing "All the Lovers" in and around Sydney was lovely yesterday. It was also love to be able to chill and meet my boo for a sannie and then a nice meal at the truly packed Thai Potong last night!

Today was a day to go Coastal and the Central Coast never disappoints with the sights of 14 year olds with prams and the darling Cheryl's and Beryl's smoking out the front of Erina Fair, just divine.

Tomorrow it's movie time with my father and a light massage. So look out for plenty more film reviews and more random bits and bobs, like this great dancefloor smash from Beni:

@ the Movies 2012 - Man on a Ledge

Oh Sam Worthington what has happened to you being the next big thing in Hollywood. Well accepting the horrid role in "Clash of the Titans" was a big mistake and then starring in this B grade hiest film and to boot being in the Clash of Titans sequel "Wrath of the Titans" his career is not looking too bright.

However he does a good job in this sometimes lame film. Elizabeth Banks also tries hard at her role but some of the other supporting cast are just woeful and you sit there thinking, how did they get this gig?

Overall though coming out shortly after the star studded "Tower Heist" this film feels like the poor younger brother, but with some smart plot twists and Sam Worthington being oh so Aussie I can give this a pass mark on the ledge of 2.5 stars.

Grammy's and the Aussie's Top of the UK Pops

Here is a list of the major Grammy Award Winners yesterday:

Album of the year: Adele's 21
Record of the year: Adele's Rolling the Deep
Best rap performance: Otis, by Kanye West and Jay-Z
Best rock performance: Foo Fighters' Walk
Song of the year: Adele's Rolling in the Deep
Best new artist: Bon Iver
Hard rock/metal performance: Foo Fighters' White Limo
Rock song: Foo Fighters' Walk
Rock Album: Foo Fighters' Wasting Light
Recording package: Caroline Robert's Scenes from The Suburbs, for Arcade Fire
Rap performance: Jay-Z and Kanye West's Otis
Dance recording: Skrillex's Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
Dance/electronica album: Skrillex's Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
Alternative music album: Bon Iver's Bon Iver
Rap/sung collaboration: Kanye West, Rihanna, Kid Cudi and Fergie's All of the Lights
Rap song: Kanye West All of the Lights
Rap album: Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Reggae album: Stephen Marley's Revelatino Pt. 1: The Root of Life
Spoken world album: Betty White's If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won't)
Comedy album: Louis C.K.'s Hilarious

So there you go Adele, Kanye & Jay Z and the almighty Skrillex continues to kill it.

So also over in the UK Mr Goyte has now made the UK his taking out the number one spot. This is just after Sia's collabrattion with David Guetta has just dropped off the top spot, so the Aussie's are killing it in the UK.

I think 2012 will be the year for Goyte internationally, you go you good thing!

@ the Movies 2012 - Martha Marcy May Marlene

- Actual film released in 2011

A movie about an escapee from a cult sound like a fun idea for an outing at the cinema? You answered no, well the correct answer is yes as Martha Marcy May Marlene is fasciantating, at times terrorfying and for the entire film I was on the edge of my seat with tension building and building throughout the film.

Martha Marcy May Marlene is not for everyone but after eating at a kinda cult cafe yesterday in Katoomba this movie made me think, this could happen anywhere. The young lead Elizabeth Olsen was flawless as this terrified and slightly fucked up youth who disappeared from life and then out of nowhere has bounced back into her sister and her husbands perfect life.

The movie creates such great tension through it's flashbacks and it's present day story telling method with Martha just always ready to snap and about to completely lose it.

This movie is a small film but simply brillant, 4 stars.

A country weekend and R.I.P Whitney

So it comes to day one of my new life and I must say this is gonna be a brief entry as man I'm tried, I was raod trippin' the hell out of the fantastic weekend that saw me bring it in with some Sydney Kings action and then a monster drive out to Blayney (reference point - near Bathurst and Orange or for my dear friend Le Orange) for the wonderful Brooke Taylor's engagaement party @ the Royal Hotel. Which I hadn't been to in years.

The trip was so pleasent and the scenery is so amazing. The pub god love it, I remember miss Brooklyn's 21st there and that was a night! Brooke had a beautiful party and I saw loads of lovely people I hadn't seen in donkeys years so hello one and all :)

On the way back loving the country air and sweeping hills we flicked on the radio as we drove into Katoomba for some Common Grounds food (google this place, it's random and amazing) we heard the news that 48 year old Whitney Houston had in fact passed away. This news was intense as I remember being back in Orlando hearing the sad news about Amy Winehouse and now another struggling artist has passed.

I think people should forget her problems and remember her magical voice and moments that have shaped the way music is today, love her or loathe her she was a star. Her is my little tribute to Miss Whitney Houston:

RE: dalmanac's Feist Comment and Oh so much random goodness...

So thanks to all the comments lately, loves it, and to dalmanac, look admitedly I haven't listened to much of "Metals" and as for "1,2,3,4" I think if an artist has an international smash single it should really be played in a live setting. Feist, when I discovered her was young, fresh and fun, I love her on record, but live yes I must say a little disapointed. More to add to this was how FAB Hall & Oats were last night and I forgot to rate it, it was deifnatly a 4 star performance.

Also one last thing to you dear reader, one of your favourite shows of 2012, it's only early Feb dude.

You Make My Dreams Come True - Hall & Oates

Oh dear god 80's WORLD! and 90's world as I had the deliocus Mel B AKA Scary Spice like metres away from me! Pop Pop Doo Woop!

Okay so aside from my Spice Girls moment this concert was FAB and why can't more gigs be at the Entertainment Centre, you can get a good feed, walk home and watch the westie piss bolt for Central station to get home to such divine locations as Mt Druitt, Penrith and basically anywhere there has been a drive by in Sydney's south west in the last 6 months.

So back to the gig, and they started with the delightful "Maneater" and pumped through some classics and managed two encores including the dreamy "Private Eyes", "You Make My Dreams" & "Rich Girl" & "Kiss on my List". My only drama was I needed more than 14 golden pop classics but hey it was getting late and I'm old. Also a special mention much go to Icehouse, how FAB was "Electric Blue" and "Great Southern Land", oh the memories, oh how the Westies do moves that can usually only be seen after a 48 hour crystal meth ramapage.

Oh dear live music this week has been intense and I was spotted with a amother fucking LARGE bag and bubbly during the week, good grief!

Feist @ the Enmore Theatre - Tue 7 Feb

So it started out a nice set with latest disc's hit "2.How Come You Never Go There" being done early on with an interaction moment which was cute with the crowd and cameras.

The set kind of took a more rock approach with a more up tempo and rock feel to "Mushaboom" & "My Moon My Man", which didn't quite work, also for a "Feel it All" it was more of a guitar driven indie rock number not the usual album version.

A strange mood was in the room after this people were chilled at the back talking among themselves and I don't blame them the concert took a turn for the snooze button. After arriving on stage 25 minutes late it was time for me to get some rest for Hall & Oats which will be reviewed tomorrow AM.

So Feist a little disappointing and more so that apparently she left "1,2,3,4" off her set completely, come on girl it's your biggest hit to date?? For the fans c'mon?

Sydney now has a Cabaret Festival! @ Slide

So it was Slide's opening night of opening night's last night with a terrific serve of Cabaret and a BIG night of talent as Sydney is about to venture into yes another festival.

As we have just seen the Sydney Festival pass it's it's sometimes easy to access arts wank fest this is a festival that all can be proud an excited to attend. With exciting vocals, a slash of comedy and some good times had by all.

The night was terrific with Marney Mc Queen's Sunburnt Country show looking to be a highlight and the Miss Divine Bette just great. Just George looked exactly like Mr Michael I love to grind in a Sydney hotel room and the food and space was magic.

The Cabaret Festival looks stunning for it's first year and let's hope it's a good year in the lead up to Mardi Gras.

An opening night get a standing ovation of four stars and what about the performance Ms Madonna put on yesterday, if you missed it view it below:

Random Monday Morning Post

So it's time for the Madonna train to hit the stage and she is back with her first single from her upcoming album and her is the music video with none other than M.I.A and Nicki Minaj lending a hand:

What are your thoughts? This song leaked a while back without the two guests but they don't add much so I am still not 100% sold on this one.

Next up something I heard on the weekend and already can't get enough of it is:

So no word of a lie this is apparently how they met and created this dance tune of 2012:

Matt K Von And Jonny Castro are Parachute Youth, a super hot Australian duo originating from Sydney and Adelaide respectively, who met two years a go at a boring shindig, six or seven guys just bonging around the couch. After thirty minutes they left the less - than - party, went home, got arty and made their first track, titled "It Can't get better than this". By default the bong had created an incredible team

LOVE IT!

Also from the weekend I realised that show "Revenge" is actually quiet good, Excess Baggage was a massive waste of advertising $$$ for Channel 9 and Glee had two hits in a row and with Ricky Martin featured on the next episode will they make it three in a row? The Michale Jackson episode was epic and here is a highlight below:

Okay y'all all the best for a pumping week, so lot's of updates this week:

Slide Cabaret Festival Oepning night
Hall & Oates
Maybe even some Feist

And maybe even a little more, so stayed tuned......

The Great Moscow Circus is back in 2012

And heading to TAMWORTH!

But before it heads off to the country music capitol of this fine brown land I got to catch up with the new show featuring yes a human cannonball live and direct from the USA!

So I managed to catch the Moscow Circus on it's 2012 tour at the lovely and (muddy) grounds at Tumbi Umbi.

Now the show is great but with some new additions and some extra audience particaption the show has really stepped up a notch! The human cannonball was awesome, there was a great new trampoline act and a knife throwing episode which was massive.

I enjoyed all the acts and was of course selected to go up on stage and share my horrid dance moves to one Missy Elliot's "Lose Control", embrassing much!

Anyway to it's star rating, it's good fun for all ages as I was with the following age range 14-80, and everyone took different parts out of the show.

The Great Moscow Circus is great fun and rates 4.5 stars.

This Week's HOT Album releases

HERMITUDE - Hyperparadise

The guy in this video is CUUUUUUUTTTTTTEEE

Look forward to the Blue Mountains team to bring this live show!

LANA DEL REY - Born To Die

A mega hype or a star? You be the judge!

THE 2 BEARS - Be Strong

A bit of Hot Chip anyone?

And finally this album is just plain weird:

STEVE AOKI - Wonderland

I'm Your Man - Finishes this weekend!

Finally a Sydney Festival show that doesn't suck balls literally, well this was a co production so maybe that's what explains it. So this show is about boxing but for me it was about perving on the very dreamy former NIDA grad John Shrimpton, just delightful.

Aside from the perve fest this was a well acted (via listening to headphones and acting out various itnerviews - random but good) and the set as always at Belvoir Street was just simply wonderful, it felt, smelt and was exactly like a sweaty boxing room at any inner city gym.

I feel with a downstairs room if the set is this awesome and realistic then the show is going to work regardless of how good the story and or acting is.

A less than hour and a half production and a too the point finale this was great. It's been a while since I could rave about live theatre so well to the dreamy John Shrimpton and remainder of the ensemble and production team.

4 stars. (3.5 for John Shrimpton)
