Song O the Day #39 {SAN CISCO - Wild Things}

Oh these kids are just too cute, breaking through with awkward, they have gone on to finally release their big first album!

"Wild Things" was the lead single to grace the radio and online and people seem to be liking it.

San Cisco are super young, super cute and super fun, they sure do write a super fun little pop song and a perfect song for those long summer holiday drives to families to friends to wherever.

Have a listen below and get your Friday on.

See you on the weekend for more SUPER special songs!

So the ARIA's are on the Telly! - PART THREE!

13. Best Song:

As voted by the public and not predicted by me, Matt Corby's Brother beat a load of former reality TV stars.  Matt Corby and Lisa Mitchell are pretty much the only former Idol's who I think will ever take these style awards, even if it's voted by the public, poor Guy, poor sexy boys from Justice crew (sad face).

14.  Best Country Album:

Beccy Cole – Songs and Pictures
Catherine Britt – Always Never Enough
McAlister Kemp – Country Proud
The McClymonts – Two Worlds Collide - 5/10, good grief back to 50%, I seriously thought old Troy C-D would win this one.
Troy Cassar-Daley – Home

15.  Best Blues & Roots Album

Angus Stone – Broken Brights
Jeff Lang – Carried In Mind - 5/11 less than 50% now, I really thought with help from Jack White Lanie Lane had this one in the bag, oh dear, my predictions are woeful this year.
Lanie Lane – To The Horses
Mia Dyson – The Moment
Paul Green & The Other Colours – Behind The Stars

16. Best Female Artist:

Jessica Mauboy – Gotcha
Kimbra – Vows - 5/12, wow I really thought Missy would get another gong, so sad, NZ lady wins again!
Lanie Lane – To The Horse
Missy Higgins – The Ol' Razzle Dazzle
Washington – Insomnia

17. Best Male Artist:

360 – Falling & Flying
Angus Stone – Broken Brights
Gotye – Making Mirrors - 6/13, finally I picked another, who would have thought Keith old Urban would win and poor Guy never stood a chance, however he is the sexist nominee I think.
Guy Sebastian – Battle Scars
Keith Urban – For You
Matt Corby – Into The Flame

18. Album of the Year:

360 – Falling & Flying
Gotye – Making Mirrors - 7/14 - 50%, not bad and it was definitely The Temper Trap's and Goyte's night of night's well done and poor old 360 all those nominations and not many statues to go home with.
Missy Higgins – The Ol' Razzle Dazzle
The Jezabels – Prisoner
The Temper Trap – The Temper Trap

Well done too to Go/Channel Nine for a decent awards show on TV, good work, it does come after some terrible A Current Affairs reporting but that comes with the territory, Tracey Grimshaw really, words straight from Sonia K, it's time to go.....

So the ARIA's are on the Telly! - PART TWO!

PART TWO, here we go:

6. Best Pop Release:

Gotye – Making Mirrors - 3/5 correct guesses thus far and too bad so far for the former Idol stars, I guess the ARIA's are never going to be awarded to reality stars :(
Guy Sebastian – Battle Scars
Jessica Mauboy – Gotcha
Kimbra – Vows
San Cisco – Awkward

7. Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album:

Buried In Verona – Notorious
DZ Deathrays – Bloodstreams - 4/6 I love these guys they are so cool and deserved it!
Frenzal Rhomb – Smoko at the Pet Food Factory
House Vs Hurricane – Crooked Teeth
Sleepmakeswaves - …and so we destroyed everything

8. Best Children's Album:

Bananas In Pyjamas – Playtime
dirtgirlworld – dirtgirl rocks the planet
Hi-5 – Sing It Loud
Rhys Muldoon – I'm Not Singing
The Wiggles – Surfer Jeff - 5/7 - On a roll now, I have no idea about kids music, but everyone likes the Wiggles right?

9. Best Comedy Release:

Anthony Salame – Is This thing On?
Arj Barker – Joy Harvest
Buddy Goode – Unappropriate - 5/8, damn I went for the Beards, oh well I am no good with comedy releases, although I know good live comedy right?
Sammy J – Skinny Man, Modern World
The Beards – Having A Beard Is The New Not Having A Beard

10. Best Music Video:

I didn't pick this one back in October as it wasn't online however the divine highlight of my evening Missy Higgin's picked up this one for Everyone's Waiting. Good choice ARIA's :)

11. Best International Act:

Didn't pick this also so it was no surprise that One Erection took out the gong.

12.  Best Group:

Boy & Bear – Big Man

Cold Chisel – No Plans
Hilltop Hoods – Drinking From The Sun
The Jezabels – Prisoner
The Temper Trap – The Temper Trap - 5/9, damn you Temper Trap I really thought the Jezabels had this one also in the bag.  I am really just happy that Cold Chisel didn't get their bogan on and win this one.  Oh well even though their second album is nowhere near as good as Conditions the folks still like em.

Oh Ruby Rose put some clothes on before I head into PART THREE, god damn I have boot camp in the AM this thing needs to wind up!

So the ARIA's are on the Telly! - PART ONE

And a while back, I predicted the winners, let's see how I went:

1.  Best Independent Release:

Dappled Cities – Lake Air

Katie Noonan and Karin Schaupp – Songs of the Southern Skies
San Cisco – Awkward
The Bamboos – Medicine Man
The Jezabels - Prisoner - 1/1 picked it, go the Jezabels!   2.  Best Rock Album:   Children Collide – Monument
Cold Chisel – No Plans
Oh Mercy – Deep Heat
The Jezabels – Prisoner
The Temper Trap – The Temper Trap - 1/2 I thought the Jezabels did a better job and the industry folk would roll with the indie kids from Sydney.

3.  Breakthrough Artist - Release:

360 – Falling & Flying - 2/3, too easy, 360 has a large following and I think will continue to grow in 2013.

Alpine – A Is For Alpine
Lanie Lane – To The Horses
Matt Corby – Brother
San Cisco – Awkward

4.  Best Dance Release:

Havana Brown – When The Lights Go Out
Hermitude – Hyperparadise
Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl feat. Georgi Kay – In My Mind - 2/4 50% ain't bad so early on, right?  Apparently Sneaky Sound System were also nominated which I didn't make my list I was going off, they kinda deserve an award, at least they admitted they were a couple recently.  I really wish those lovely Blue Mountains folks Hermitude won, oh well let's get the next award on Go!
Knife Party – Rage Valley

5. Best Australian Live Act:

Never predicted this one, don't know why, hmmm weird, but hey Goyte won for Making Mirrors Album Tour.  Just one note Tom Ballard looked really terrible, WTF, random WTF.

> Yothu Yindi get inducted into the hall of fame after Mauboy, Kelly, Garrett & Dan Sultan join the group at the old Entertainment Centre for a massive version of the hit tune "Treaty".

Highlight so far for part one of this BLOG entry defo Missy Higgin's "Everyone's Waiting" performance which just showed she still has it and that the single is simply pure gold!

Let's get set for PART TWO of So the ARIA's are on the Telly!

Song O the Day #38 {DCUP - I'm Corrupt}

After making it BIG a few years back with “We No Speak No Americano” with fellow mates Yolanda be Cool. DCUP has been busy since that breakthrough release, he’s just launched his label, Chookie and now launched a new single “I’m Corrupt” inspired by Kid Creole’s 1982 track (of the same name).

This is so just in time for summer and the party season and it has a totally fun clip
below for y'all to check out:

Hope you had a dance to that little ditty!

See you tomorrow for maybe the youngest people on my Song O the day list!

Song O the Day #37 {CHIDDY BANG - Mind Your Manners}

Teaming up with Sweden's one and only Icona Pop it's the almighty Chiddy Bang back with another catchy hip pop gem, it's "Mind Your Manners". Chiddy Bang has had a couple of hits since they popped up on the scene we all remember "Opposite of Adults" & "Truth" both sampling famous indie hits.

Chiddy Bang's previous single "Ray Charles" was pure gold and "Mind Your Manners" has finally seem them hit their charts.

It's hard to believe they only have one album and a couple of EP's. So let's get ready to mind our manners and tune in below:

See you tomorrow for a corrupt dance number, yes that's right!

A Short n Simple Share @ the Seymour

The Share opened late last week to great reviews and it was time for this old duck to check out what all the fuss is about.  It's dark, gritty and a realistic look at some young down n out boys in a modern world.

There is a lot of bad language in this play and a lot of adult themes but hey one of my favourite songs of 2012 features the most filthy lyrics in it (Ms A Banks "212" if you re keen) so it's nothing new for me but you the reader have been warned.

The Share is a super speedy rough look @ the youth of today and the non glamorous side of some down n out kids.

The two leads are great and the support actor is not to shabby too.  Probably the pick for me of the 2012 Reginald Season @ the Seymour and definitely not one for the faint hearted.

The Share is short n not so sweet 3 stars.

Song O the Day #36 {BEN FOLDS FIVE - Draw A Crowd}

It's been ages & ages since I hear Ben Folds Five and I must say I was always a bit of a fan of their nerdy pop music. "One Angry Dwarf & 200 Solomon Faces" was a great slice of pop, "Army" was punchy and to the point pop and the rest of it in between was just plain fun.

So it's no surprise their return to the scene has produced to catchy killer singles "Do it Anyway" and today's song O the day "Draw a Crowd".

This is fun and a good old fashioned Piano sing a long, I dare you not to crack a smile during this song:

So check out their latest album today: The Sound of the Life of the Mind and rediscover fun 90's pop music all over again.

Song O the Day #35 {BALL PARK MUSIC - Surrender}

Released in August 2012 Brisbane's Ball Park Music released yet another catchy indie sing a long in "Surrender", taken from their second full length studio album "Museum" Surrender was to be the lead single for the album and a nice taste of where the Brisbane folk are headed.

If you listen to Triple J you would be well familiar with their sound, if not I
urge you to have a listen as below:

It's another Song o the day as we head very close to the end of 2012!

Song O the Day #34 {GRINSPOON - Passerby}

Originally unearthed by Triple J, like a million years ago, Grinspoon have been a favourite on radio and local tour circuits. They have played countless Big Day Out's, Homebakes and any festival in between.

They have released a best of and some of the best sing a longs of my high school years and then early 20's. I have grown up with Grinspoon and I was so proud to hear "Passerby" and realise they still have it.

So well done to Grinspoon and today the BLOG's budget stretches to visuals and we can share the video of this rockin' tune.

Enjoy and catch you for another tune tomoz:

Song O the Day #33 {BRITISH INDIA - I Can Make You Love Me}

Another Aussie hit and British India are now making a bit of a name for themselves. A few albums in and this single is moody, it's got a great chorus and it's a real love song or maybe an anti love song.

I have enjoyed watching British India develop over the years and this is definitely there most mature effort to date. "I Can Make You Love Me" is another tune I am hoping to see in the end of year Boxing Day mega list, so stay tuned & have a listen below:

Tomorrow we head to an old school favourite of mine, they originally hail from Lismore and over the years they have had some damn big hits, think "Chemical Heart", "DCX3" & "Ready 1", check by tomorrow to find out who!

Friday, November 23, 2012

Song O the Day #32 {GYPSY & THE CAT - Sorry}

After supporting Kylie where to for Gypsy & the Cat in 2012, well a new album was a start and the lead single "Sorry" really grew on me.

"The Late Blue" has had a bit of attention and there new single "Bloom" is all
over the radio now, but today let's shine the spotlight on "Sorry". The song is
fun and has summer written all over it.

If you like cruisey Aussie songs this one is for you, so take a Friday load off and have a listen below kids:

See you on the other side of the weekend for a fresh countdown including a possible new number one, shall we head to the Thrift Shop y'all?

Song O the Day #31 {ELLIE GOULDING - Anything Could Happen}

Oh Coca-Cola you pick a good tune to feature on your huge budget clips and this is a great example of that. Ellie Goulding (lady friend to Skrillex) is great, her vocals, the super polished produced, the whole package is just golden.

This has been a BIG single over the last month or so and I totally feel it will appear somewhere in my end of year list, her album Halcyon could be a big deal for Ellie and she also appears on the stellar new release from Calvin Harris, so let's take a listen below:

Song O the Day #30 {THE TEMPER TRAP - Trembling Hands}

Were staying in Melbourne today for not an Aussie Hip Hop song, not an emerging artist, it's the global success story of the Temper Trap. Their second album was not meet with as much excitement as their debut "Conditions" however this track has been a big smash for them, proving commercial stations are interested and bringing you a big stadium rock tune.

The single has sold gold in Australia (sales in excess of 35,000) and it continues to be a radio favourite.

The Temper Trap are today's BIG song of the day as the countdown nears for the BIG 100 list on Boxing Day!

Album of the Year Nomination #5 - CALVIN HARRIS - 18 Months

It's no surprise that it's been a BIG year for dance music, it's been a big year
for collaborations and when the two meet you get David Guetta's Nothing but the Beat 2.0. Jokes!

The fifth and possible final album of the year nomination for 2012 goes to Scottish super producer Calvin Harris. He has had a dream run in 2012 and late 2011. His album when I listened to it in full kinda sounded like a best of Calvin Harris of the last few years. It started with "Bounce" mid last year and it not only acted as a solid first single but a kick start to the amazing revamp of Kelis.

Then he hammered it home with "Feels so Close", a tune so awesome that it stuck around for months, both songs made my amazing end of year 101 last year @ 4 & 9. The third single proved that Ne-Yo can sing and sing the hell out of "Let's Go", it was a big house number with a crazy big chorus that brings the roof down. Example got in on the act for single number four and then the dream team made single number five a number one smash in 2012 with Florence Welch smashing "Sweet Nothing" out of the ball park.

Then after five monster smashes the album dropped and with this Ellie Goulding (BF to Skrillex) track "Need Your Love" surfaced (also featured on her disc), this and the Tinie Tempah track attracted chart attention too.
Ayah Marar, Dizzee Rascal, Nicky Romero & the Rihanna featured "We Found Love" all also feature on this awesome party mix CD.

There is no filler it is all serious dance floor filler. This is by far Calvin Harris's best album to date. This will really put him on the map and maybe knock David Guetta off the king of collab throne for a while.

Calvin Harris joins Frank Ocean, Missy Higgins, the Hilltop Hoods & The xx in the race for my album of the year. Who will win, find out on Boxing Day AM.

Peace Out!

Song O the Day #29 {ALLDAY x C1 - So Good}

Hailing from Melbourne, influenced by Frank Ocean (melts), TLC (Oh Lisa Left Eye) & Silverchair, yes diverse influences but one nice fresh sunny sound.  It's Allday teaming up with production star C1 for "So Good" and let's just say this song is totally so good!

Have a listen below and give Melbourne some Aussie Hip Hop Love:

Happy tight arse Tuesday BITCHES!

@ the Movies 2012 - Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2

Oh dear it's finally come to a close and in a way it all couldn't end quick enough.  The first movie was an abortion gone haywire, the second was a vast improvement, the third was a none event and the last movie spilt in two was almost as much of a cash grab as Taken 2.  So the whores of Hollywood combined to make this conclusion to one of the worst/best saga's of recent times.

The main thing to have watched during the length of this overly long saga was Jacob, the dreamy (in the later films) Taylor Lautner.  So let's look at a photo essay of his Twilight days:

1.  Twilight, long haired thug:

2. New Moon, Taylor got naked (well PG13 naked):

3. Eclipse, naked (PG13) in the cold, shrinkage much?

4. The slightly lame drawn out Breaking Dawn Part One:

5. In the final this shirtless scene made the entire cinema crack up, not sure if it was meant to get that reaction:

There we have it, a few girls would have just lost their shit, a few boys may have creamed their jeans and now for the rest of the cast:

Kristen Stewart - Still a sour young C*^T

Robert Pattinson - Still pale and fucking ugly as, next to Taylor he looks like a corpse that has been six feet under for years then chucked in a microwave had piles of foundation launched onto him and then put in front of a camera.  The light from the camera would be the most sun he has seen in 15 years.

Dakota Fanning - Why did you sign on for these films, your better than this?

Anyway it's done dusted and 4 & 1/2 films later the vampires are well rested and the whole story wraps up Hollywood style.  This is exactly why "End of Watch" was such a refreshing film, this movie was just average and I have decided 2013 I am the enemy of average and I'm gonna call average out wherever I can.

So that said, Twilight the finale rates a fair 2 stars, it does suck but it has it's moments (mainly when Taylor gets his guns out), it's the end of an era.

Bye Twilight, it's been real, NOT!

PS - Thank god for True Blood

Song O the Day #28 {OF MONSTERS & MEN - Little Talks}

Hailing from Iceland it's some Mumford & Sons inspired folk rock. Who ever thought this genre would have some chart toping numbers in the 2010's.

This song is a little Mumford a little Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's, it's filled with the big sing a longs and some damn good times.

Take a listen below and see if this band is going to be top of the pops on the Boxing Day 100 song extravaganza!

Yes it's not long now till I list the full 100 songs and reveal the album of the year, maybe during this week another nomination will be revealed stay tuned....

15 - Flume - Holdin On'
14 - Fun. - Some Nights

1 - Swedish House Mafia - Don't You Worry Child

Song O the Day #27 {SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA - Don't You Worry Child}

Another BIG club banger now for day 27 as we head ever so close to Song O the Day 30!  It's now defunct Swedish House Mafia and there massive anthem "Don't You Worry Child".

It's been a big number one song all over my countdown for a while, it's three massive DJ's on one track. They have had hits with "Save the World", "One" and others but this is there signature tune featuring John Martin out front on vocals.

This will be on a lot of end of year countdown's and I'm sure a lot of NYE playlists.

I hope this one brings your Sunday to a nice close.

Swedish House Mafia they did it, they called it a day before they turned into Muse releasing shit album after shit album.

Song O the Day #26 {KID CUDI - Just What I Am (Ft. King Chip)}

Not as big as Jay Z or Kanye, Kid Cudi is one of those Urban stars who is making a good name for himself with tunes like "Day n Nite" & "Pursuit of Happiness". Then Steve Aoki did a killer remix of "Pursuit of Happiness" and it became a party anthem much like the Crookers remix of "Day n Nite".

Kid Cudi I believe has another hit on his hands here with "Just What I am". It's chilled it's got a smooth beat, it features another new comer (I think don't know much of King Chip's work) and it just works, it feels like a smooth Sunday morning jam.

I think this is an ace Saturday morning weekend tune for you.

Hope you enjoy it and remember tomorrow is the a new sugar free fresh countdown.

THE BURLESQUE HOUR - Glory Box Edition

Sydney welcome to a world of nudity and loud tunes to start your weekend or get you all foxy mid week, yes the Glory Box Edition of the Burlesque Hour is here at Sydney's Seymour Centre.

My only experience with Burlesque was seeing the wonderful Christina and Cher film of the said genre name "Burlesque" and let's say this is a long shot away from that.

My favourite act in the first half was the balloons act which if you see it you will probably love this also.  The second act for me lost the steam the first act built as I could have done without the interval and maybe just enjoyed an hour or so straight through.

Intervals for me unless the show is overly long creates a time for you to drift and lose where you are at.

The show has a strange but fun if you wanna get up and dance finale and the venue itself was turned into some Spiegeltent type experience with Saigon lanterns, cabaret tables on the stage and at times lot's of wild water everywhere.

This was an enjoyable evening and a nice peek at Burlesque, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea and I really do think like film editing and keeping things tight are the key.

Overall 3,5 feather boas for the Burlesque Hour - Glory Box Edition

Song O the Day #25 {POLICA - Dark Star}

This Minneapolis based crew have delivered a truly delicious sounding well produced tune "Dark Star". I don't know much about this crew as they don't even have a Wiki page, sad face :(

But I do have two ears and I know a good tune (even if it does feature some fancy auto tune) when I hear one.

Polica's debut album just got a local release here and it's well worth checking out, in the mean time here is some "Dark Star" for you:

@ the Movies 2012 - End of Watch

Oh Jake Gyllenhaal, can I just say he is so amazing and so handsome in that weird way he is like totally marriage material.  This movie is seriously good stuff (and not seriously shit like Ten's Breakfast show with that Kiwi C%$t) the support cast of the amazing two mains (Gyllenhaal & Pena) mainly Anna Kendrick as Gyllenhaal's girlfriend is amazing, she is stripped back and shows real emotion.

The handheld camera can get annoying, the over use of the F bomb gets a bit much, but hey who I am to comment on swearing when I refer to Paul Henry as a see you next Tuesday and really wish Tracey Grimshaw was aborted at birth (side issue - ACA's Castle Hill Great Mall of China sorry, seriously Channel Nine it's a shame you didn't go broke so racist hatred can't go to air, and seriously who asks Pauline Hanson on any issues in 2013, fucktards) so I can't really comment on swearing but the number of F bombs in this movie is out of control.

So End of Watch, has great eye candy, a great story, great acting, a real cinema experience, I was seriously unhappy when this film ended it was just super.

I highly recommend this film and know it will be in my end of year best list.

End of Watch rates a BIG 4.75 stars.

Song O the Day #24 {RUDIMENTAL - Feel The Love (ft. John Newman)}

What can one say about Rudimental, it's a revolutionary dance tune that saw

the light in mid May 2012. And they proved this was not a fluke by giving us
"Not Giving In" recently.

Teaming up with John Newman who's debut big break was providing the vocals to this monster smash hit! It's been a global smash and no one can deny this will definitely end up in a load of end of year countdowns.

Clubs love it, radio loves it, my IPOD loved it, Rudimental FEEL THE LOVE, an epically big song O the day!

Song O the Day #23 {HUNGRY KIDS OF HUNGARY - Sharp Shooter}

Hitting you straight out of Bris-Vegas this is a damn fine slice of indie Aus Pop! Hungary Kids dropped and epic debut in 2010 and next year they will roll out album number 2!

If you like a good pop song you are going to love this track:

Tomorrow we are looking into one of the floor fillers of 2012. Watch out dance floor cause we are totally gonna feel the love y'all.

Happy Hump Day!

Song O the Day #22 {FULL TOTE ODDS - What's Going Down}

Hailing from the Adelaide Hills it's the almighty Full Tote Odds. Coming out of the same breeding ground as the Hilltop Hoods and the Funkoars they have big shoes to fill and with this track and "Southern Wind" they are filling those shoes quiet nicely.

If you like Aussie Hip Hop and you like a bit of fun, Full Tote Odds are your own Adelaide brewed cup of tea.

Their debut drops really soon and I am sure they will be hitting a stage near you for a summer festival.

So take a listen below and get your Aussie Hip Hop on!

@ the Movies DOUBLE FEATURE - Bachelorette/Alex Cross

Two different films, two films both have received dreadful reviews, but are they bad? Find out below on some Monday light reading.

Like last year's SMASH hit Bridesmaids this takes a ladies look at what can turn out to be a horror day, the Wedding Day.  Things all go terribly wrong on the eve prior to the Wedding and if the bride has friends like Kristen Dunst, Isla Fisher & Lizzy Caplan, she may as well juts have her mum present.  Bachelorette is definitely not as top notch as Bridesmaids, the laughs are few and far between and the three mentioned above are just horrible.

You wonder why the whole movie Rebel Wilson wants these ladies around her?

It is great to see two Aussie girls making there mark though on Hollywood in this kinda average comedy.

Nice to see ladies behaving badly again but the same old tricks being pulled out doesn't exactly amount to the best comedy doing the rounds @ present.  Bachelorette rates 3 stars.

Universally disliked and missing Morgan Freeman I was expecting the worst, however I ended up getting a decent action/thriller film.

It's strange how gritty "Kiss the Girls" and "Along Came the Spider" were and then this is such a polished Hollywood piece of work, not that that's a bad thing but also missing the main lead and turning former TV good guy Matthew Fox into a bad ass is hard.

But Matthew Fox is actually great as a villain and Tyler Perry does his best.  You feel ill every time he calls someone a maggot, maybe it's the M Rating but fuckwit, asshole or C%&T would have worked so much better for some of the situations this occurs in.

The action scenes are great and the mystery isn't so much a mystery as it's all laid out on the table (Dexter Morgan style) early on.

Alex Cross isn't a bad film it's just not at the same level the Alex Cross films were over 10 years ago.

Things change in 10 years, like we are not ruled by a man with short man syndrome.  Alex Cross it's a bit good, it's a bit bad (as in the script) but overall like in the movies good wins out.  3 Stars.

Tomorrow - An Aussie Hip Hop song of the Day..... Guy Sebastien "Battlescars" maybe???

Song O the Day #21 {St. LUCIA – September}

This song sounds so much like a track which should appear on the Presets "Pacifica" album (unfortunately not the amazing follow up I think they and there record company were wanting) yes it's very old school cool Presets sounding and electro at it's best.

This song is a weird choice for my Monday song of the day cause it will make you want to cut a serious rug.

St Lucia is an artist to keep an eye out for, this is well produced and builds nicely. Yes 2012 has produced some good dance tunes and some bad ones and even the odd novelty tune such as PSY's international smash "Gangnam Style".

The 2012 end of year dance list is gonna be BIG, take a listen to this ace number below:

Song O the Day #19 {AVICII - Silhouettes}

Released earlier on in the year (April to be exact) this song has made it's way onto my IPOD and proved a good running song/cycling song and in general just a good party song.

There has been some good dance songs in 2012 and this one really rates. I never rated "Levels" much but this one has a killer vocal and great build up!

This is your perfect Saturday pump up tune and hopefully your not getting pumped up to become a drunken bogan i.e. Melbourne Cup style!

Enjoy your weekend and don't forget a brand new shiny countdown tomorrow evening!

Song O the Day #18 {SASKWATCH - Your Love}

So much love for this tune coming out of Melbourne, Victoria. These guys really kill the whole 60's sound and just make me wanna smile. The whole tune is just pure gold and a real contender for my end of year big ass 100 list.

If you haven't heard of Saskwatch yet, check out there awesome sound below:

Here is more sounds from them below on your FRIDAY! TGIF!:

And keep with Victoria, do the bogans @ Melbourne Cup 2012 ever stop giving, it appears this event is the gift that keeps on giving, oh hail smart phones with recording devices (Right Alan Jones):

Till tomorrow....

Song O the Day #17 {BAT FOR LASHES - All Your Gold}

Okay I didn't love Laura, but this song just released as a single by Bat for Lashes from the album The Haunted Man.

This song has divine production and truly sublime vocals, Natasha Khan from Brighton is a sex bomb and a truly talented young vocalist. The previous album "Two Suns" was just ace and this album if it's anything like "All Your Gold" will be a gem.

I have posted the Original below:

and a handy little Remix:

Tomorrow we are off to Melbourne for another snazzy tune, stay tuned and hope you liked my bogan piece :) And no it's not that I am anti drinking it's just I find it very said that all "Australian" days, everyone links to getting shit faced:
Australia Day - Shit Faced
Anzac Day - Shit Faced
Melbourne Cup/Any Race Day - Well you saw the evidence yesterday.

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

I touched on this the other day and I don't wanna judge..... BUT

Are we as Australian's becoming complete bogans?  The recent series Dumb Drunk & Racist really made me think, well yes a lot of people I've encountered over the years are either on of those three words or all or a mixture of the three words that were echoed at yesterday's Melbourne Cup.  Well we can maybe dump Racist but Dumb & Drunk well let's let the pictures speak for themselves:

So we have all been there but as our lovely founders reported on the Daily Mail (thanks for the cool snaps Daily Mail too by the way) reported we even give the poms a run for there money on how much we can drink and behave badly.  Well a large chunk come from the motherland so what's to be expected.

I first laughed when I saw these images and then I thought of all the times I worked at Royal (hey there is nothing royal about this cesspool) Randwick and the times I saw girls with spew in their hair, guys dressed to the nines then later being evicted for pissing in public.

Yes the races, it claims to be classy but really it seems like a place for our bogans to play dress up and spend there hard earned cash at the bar and at a Tom Waterhouse stand.

Yes Melbourne Cup, it's done and dusted for another year, with many hang over today and many looking on news websites seeing images of themselves they may be proud of or may even post on Facebook but at the end of the day it just seems a waste.  A wasted youth who when it all boils down to would be better lending their afternoon to a volunteer cause or avoiding becoming parents, cause a second generation of these bogans is something I don't want to live through.

End of rant....

Song O the Day #16 {OH MERCY - My Man}

So much can be said for Oh Mercy's latest release "Deep Heat". One is "Drums" was a killer lead single and then came this saxophone infused hit "My Man".

It's a truly solid piece of music and one of my favourite cuts of 2012.

Oh Mercy have continued to create great music over the years, from slower numbers to bringing up the tempo in 2012 on "Deep Heat".

It's hump day and it's almost time for another glorious Spring weekend which
will also bring another rather large countdown.

See you all tomorrow.

Album of the Year Nomination #4 - FRANK OCEAN - CHANNEL ORANGE

After Missy Higgins, Hilltop Hoods & The xx being nominated it's time for another one as per the subject this is a big release.  It's the hip hop/r&b disc of 2012, the smooth vocals the sweet production, the killer tunes.

Channel Orange is a truly sublime masterpiece and a must listen.  For months I haven't been able to quit listening to his sweet as vocals and beautiful lyrics.  "Pyramids" has been a massive hit across the globe, "Lost" has also found it's feet and there are tracks like "Thinkin' bout You" & "Forrest Gump" that I have had on repeat over and over again.

Frank Ocean definitely deserves this nomination and like Goyte last year will a solo male act take out my BLOG's album of the year?

After you listen to this album you will be surprised and find yourself unable to listen to all the average RnB discs out there for the likes of Ne-Yo etc.

Here is another tune for your Melbourne Cup today and it's only a month away before the album of the year is revealed?  Is it Missy's year, the Hilltops time to shine and drink more from the sun, the xx or Mr Frank Ocean?

Song O the Day #15 {SETH SENTRY - Dear Science}

Seth Sentry oh boy from the Waitress Song, to My Scene and beyond, this beyond 2000 ode is great, it's fun it mentions hover boards, it's got some smart as lyrics.

Seth Sentry and Aussie Hip Hop, you either hate it or love it, there is nothing in between.

So without further ado on Melbourne Cup let's crank up the almighty Aussie Hip Hop!

May the best horse win and may your spew not get in your fascinator!

On a sexier note, how hot is the new "Paradise Edition" cover for Ms Lana Del Ray:

Till tomorrow X

Song O the Day #14 {ICONA POP - I Love It }

Hello Sweden and hello Icona Pop, this is the coolest pop song around, do you dig it?

I found these ladies a little while back and have thrashed it on my IPOD. What a discovery, what a year for Sweden.
Here is some killer mixes of the song too:

Looking forward to a bit of an Aussie Hip Hop tune tomorrow, it's fairly A grade and he is new Aussie Hip Hop A Grade. So not the Hilltop Hoods school or from Bliss N Eso.

Song O the Day #13 {KANYE WEST - Clique (Ft. Jay-Z & Big Sean) - {GOOD MUSIC}}

So yesterday was manic, why are Saturday's so busy in 2012, I'm tired + old as fuck.

So speaking of dropping the F bomb this is a double entry as yesterday I had no time to BLOG about "Thrift Shop", so amazing that little tune, did you like?  It's roaring up the charts and the USA are loving that killer production and X rated lyrics.

Now to today's GEM:

Staying with Hip Hop it's from the Good Music album, love it sick!  Kanye teams up with Jay Z & Big Sean for this killer tune.

Swearing, big beats and real smooth production all over this hot as tune that marks day thirteen in this song of the day tradition.

13 may be unlucky for some but Kanye continues to remain current, continue to smash out tunes and continue to top the charts and be a popular performer.

So to rap up (lol, bad English, wrap up, rap, y'all), yesterday it was the amazing Thrift Shop with some killer lines and some dope ass samples and today it's 2012 fresh from Kanye, he is still the original Gold Digger and definitely not a broke N*****

Okay until tomorrow when the Song O the Day travels to Sweden.  See you then.

My Private Parts (The Show Not Pee Pee Time)

So a show titled "My Private Parts" is sure to get some attention, maybe for all the wrong reasons or maybe for the right ones, who knows in 2012.  But this is a story I had no idea about and that my friends is IVF.

The show is part musical, part comedy and part play.  It has some laugh out loud moments and some moments where you feel sorry for the lead and anyone in the same shoes as here.

The songs were fun and well sung, the two leads are great and seem to really love being in the show.

It's an important story to be told and a fun ride, at 75 minutes it is a little long (I mainly say this as you can tell people's concentration sliding if you see Facebook lite up on someones phone screen), short and sharp is the way for a show in 2012 and beyond.

My Private Parts, 3 lady bits star approval rating.

Song O the Day #11 {CHANCE WATERS (ft. LILLIAN BLUE - Maybe Tomorrow}

Out of Sydney comes the renamed Chane Waters, Formerly known in the Oz Hip Hop world as Phatchance. Hailing out of Sydney and teaming up on this tune with Lilian Blue this is a dark but sunny sounding tune perfect for a Friday sing a long.

Give it a listen below and you'll find out why this is definitely deserving of my song of the day.

Best for the weekend and I will see you on the other side of Friday night, my Friday night you ask? Catching up on the amazing new series of American Horror Story and giving the ABC's new drama "Redfern Now" a look in on the amazing iView.

Think it's time for commercial TV to catch up with something like iView.

Alright, Randy Andy out.....

Song O the Day #10 {DJANGO DJANGO - Default}

With a crazy beat it can only create strange dance moves and weird movements, it's Django Django. The album was recorded in 2011 and then
released in January 2012 and it's been a hit ever since on the airwaves.

"Default" is a must have on a party set list and it has really grown on me over time.

Featured on the terrific House Party compilation (which is one of the
greatest compilations of 2012, shame the radio show isn't what it used to be) this song is going to be a big one me thinks on a lot of end of year lists.

So without further ado let's welcome November (or Movember as the lazy
males like to call it) and the last month of Spring with this off beat dance number:

Coming Up:

My review of My Private Parts (yes it's a show, I'm not getting my cock out y'all), my open letter to Julia Gillard re: the White Paper (Julia love, we need to chat) and a brand new countdown on Sunday.

Until then happy November!
