Film Freak - Traitor

This new Guy Pearce film is another look at the war on terror and terrorism across the globe.

It doesn't break any new ground but it is almost real and the acting is quiet good.

Guy Pearce appears to have come along way from his days in Priscilla and could be the next Rusty Crowe if he plays his cards right.

Traitor is more of a wait till DVD, but if like me you've seen anything else at the cinemas give it a viewing.

Traitor rates 3 stars.

Priscilla Take 101

Well again no Todd McKenny, this time I decided to try my luck on a Sunday arvo.

The crowds are getting smaller for this return season and it's no wonder it is closing earlier than expected.

The show whilst being great, seems still to be lacking some energy and inspiration. Collen Mann is no Genevieve Lemon and Bill Hunter is just way too funny! Let's not even go into his singing!

Priscilla is on it's last legs in Sydney before it ships off to London, it's been fun! See you in another ten years or so!

Priscilla still rates 4 big glossy stars!

Film Freak: Rock N Rolla

I am in love, with Gerard Butler, YUM!

This Guy Ritchie film is ace, he is a newly single man and has started a great set of films, the first one is simply titled Rock N Rolla. The film is fast paced, has a great variety of characters and a great plot.

The movie is a winner from the opening credits and the soundtrack is simply rocking!

Desperate to check out the next film (no doubt it will be even darker after the divorce) and see more Gerard Butler in action!

Rock N Rolla rates a big 4 rockin' stars!

Get your Saturday Dance on, it's BOOKA SHADE

Well the Enmore Theatre was rocking this last Saturday with the German beats and deep sounds of fine electronic music.

Booka Shade played to a almost full downstairs of dance music fans from across the globe, it almost looked like a backpackers in parts of the theatre.

The music was ace and I definitely got my dance on and enjoyed the great sounds of the two lads form Germany.

Booka Shade definitely a group to check out to get your Summer parties started.

A Night at the Theatre: A View of Concrete

All I can say is YUM Damian Walshe-Howling!

Hot, hot, hot! This play is okay but Damian is definitely the reason to have caught this piece of theatre!

Damian rates 10 stars!

It's back - The Gift Registry

This time Christmas style, check out what I want below:

1. Guy Ritchie and Madonna to patch things up, she makes better music when she is married.
2. Sally to go back to Home & Away and leave Nova 969, sounds similar
3. Britney's new album "Circus" on my IPOD ASAP or sooner!

No just kidding see the list below bitches:

Ministry of Sound 2009 Annual
Josh Pyke - Chimney's afire CD
Easybeats - Easy Fever Tribute disc
Terminator TV series season One
Chaser season two part two
Satisfaction TV Series Season One
90210 Season Five
Kate Miller Heidke - Curiouser CD

That's it for now, the list will grow bigger as Christmas (my fav time of the year approaches!)

Film Freak: Newcastle

All I can saw is perv fest! Hot men riding some of Newcastle's biggest waves, HOT!

An interesting story line was there, somewhere deep beneath the water, but it never rose to the surface. Bad acting, but a good hearted film with some important messages. Newcastle rates a beach bum 2 stars.

Top 5 @ 5 - Wednesday November 19 2008

1. Ben Lee - I Love Pop Music
2. Deadmau5 - Hi Friend
3. Howling Bells - Into the Chaos
4. Architecture in Helsinki - That Beep
5. The Ting Tings - We Walk

Film Freak: Bond - Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Solace

Well a few days before opening and a packed out cinema played the latest Bond installment with the sexy Daniel Craig.

The film itself was so polished and confusing in parts you almost felt like you were playing a video game. The plot was slightly strange and Daniel Craig only got his shirt off once (make note ladies, half way through the film!) and the opening song from Jack White and Alicia Keys was definitely a plus from the movie! Great song!

The film itself is great for Bond fans and also ladies who want to see a hot older man in action (not Sydney Hot Shots action ladies!) this film is for you, expect no surprises however.

Bond rates 2 and half stars, mainly for Daniel Craig's shirtless scene!

Sydney Hot Shots @ Home Nightclub

Well I love nothing more than a good male stripper & a room full of horny menopausal women, especially to a catchy tune and a well choreographed performance (wait are these strippers meant to be straight?)!

The Sydney Hot Shots shake their booties to numbers from Grinspoon to the Village People and made the crowd extremely excited! I think it will be the last set of abbs most straight women heading into the land of marriage, get used to beer bellies and back hair.

The Sydney Hot Shots was a hot night out and rates a sizzling 4 stars!

The Sam Simmons Experience

Oh dear it's a rainy, stormy night in Sydney and what better night to see Sam Simmons and his experience with 399 other people, wondering WTF! Sam Simmons is no doubt the best thing about Dools & Linda's weak Drive show on JJJ and also hosts weekend breaky on the J's. His humour is unusual and definitely a kind not for the weak hearted!

Sam Simmons got through the show event though he claimed to be ill and amused the majority of the audience, several people around me did however leave once the C word was aired!
Sam Simmons rates a weird yet wacky yet wonderful 4 stars!

Film Freak: Dying Breed

I so badly wanted this film to be a huge success, if not for anything than he fact I love Leigh Warnell (even though those Saw movies are just plain weird now!).

The movie filmed in Tasmania, will if nothing, keep the tourists away in their droves (if the economic crisis wasn't bad enough). The film was a Deliverance-esque, Wrong Turn part animal lover film. Odd in parts but Nathan Phillips is also nice to look at (particularly if those tattoo's are real!).

Dying Breed never really got there but tried really hard and did scare me in parts, this film rates an inbred 3 stars.

Little Women

I recently read a review that quoted "this was the best Kookaburra production yet", well it didn't have much competition as Floyd Collins never even went ahead last year, Company was a disaster and let's not even go there with Pippin!

I missed "Tell me on a Sunday" and will definitely not sit through next years show "I love you, your perfect now change" however back to Little Women, it was actually good, much to my surprise. David Harris is as also a dream boat to look at and the cast of mostly females held the show together really well. The first act however clocked in just over an hour and a half which was way too long, however the second act made up good time.

Little Women as the previous reviewer stated is Kookaburra's best work to date however there is still much improvement needed if they want to stick around in the competitive theatre market. Little Women rates 3 stars.

Light the Night 2008

Monday November 10th 2008

Well another year another terrific Light the Night.

This year raising awareness and funds for much needed research for arrow bone marrow transplants.

It is always a touch sad but some of the performances this year were just so terrific!

Lior sang his favourite hit "This Old Love" and his prayer in native tongue, no instruments just his amazing voice, he literally brought the house down.

Katie Noonan performance a track from her new disc "Across the Universe" yes it's a Lennon cover and a simply beautiful cover at that.

Amy Winehouse was replaced by the terrific Amy Housewine! So funny!

Tim Campbell and Anthony Callea also did a love song duet, they actually are in love, it really was adorable!

The whole evening rates a big 5 stars!

Out on da town.... Look out LADIES!

And the Bride of the Year goes to...

Young Erin Lindwell, check out her BLOG below (it's not as good as mine, but still okay):

HOT STUFF!

Film Freak: Towelhead

Well Alan Ball (creator of one of the best TV shows ever, Six Feet Under) is back with this feature film. Confronting, shocking and so funny you almost piss yourself, how can all this be in one film? Well get off you clacker and go see it.

It has a limited release but is definitely worth a look in.

How can one man portray American Suburbia in such an entertaining light time after time?

Towelhead revolves around a young Lebanese girl and her battles hitting puberty and leaving her mother to live with her extremely strict father. Their relationship is so intense you just want to hit him!

Toni Collette is also in the mix for good measure (love you Toni!) and the film definitely goes to places most films wouldn't touch with a ten meter tampon (see the film, you see a few tampons!).

Towelhead is one of my favourite films of 08, it rates 4 and three quarter stars.

The Great Moscow Circus

Well a Saturday night on the Central Coast and what better thing to do than check out a Circus, an all human circus!

The Great Moscow Circus played to an almost full tent and entertained toddlers to wheelchair bound geriatrics!

Some of the acts were simply amazing and it didn't hurt that the juggler was just simply Delicious!

The Great Moscow Circus rates a big GREAT 4 stars!

Top 5 @ 5 - Monday 10th November 2008

1. Rye Rye - Hardcore Girls (17 year old sensation from Baltimore!)
2. Ladyhawke - My Delirium
3. Girl Talk - Bounce That
4. Ting Tings - We Walk
5. Bjork - Nattura (Featuring Thom Yorke)

Priscilla Take 100

Priscilla
Star City - Lyric Theatre - NOW PLAYING!

Well my 1000th time to see this Australian masterpiece, was great, my three friends loved it, however the second act felt very tired!

Todd McKenney was missing in action! No surprise really, I was going to check Sydney's gay sex venues or beats, but you know I decided against facing a possible drug charge.

Bill Hunter was another new addition to this production and he was quiet enjoyable however I don't know whether he was pissed or not?

Overall this is a feel good show and definitely a nice way to bring in the weekend, Priscilla rates 3 and half stars.

Melbourne Cup 2008

Melbourne Cup 2008 @ the Taronga Centre

Well I usually don't like Melbourne Cup but I can handle having a nice feed of Salmon, dessert and great company and not to mention the view to die for from the Taronga Centre.

This has to be my best ever Melbourne Cup and one I will remember, however I can't even think which horse won!

Killer Joe

My first time at the terrific downstairs theatre at Belvoir St and what a great show!

This had all the ingredients for a terrific performance!

The idea of the show was a redneck family set in a Texas trailer park. The family members decide to kill the mother of the two kids, both are fantastic!

The story goes from bad to worse, as whenever people think they can murder people and get away with it.

The acting was great, the set was terrific and being so close you really thought you were another trailer park whore.

Killer Joe rates a killer 4 and a half stars.

Film Freak: Body of Lies

Could almost be renamed to much ado about nothing!

The plot was shaky at the best of times and Russel Crowe just looked like a beached whale (how does Danielle Spencer sleep with that every night!) and Leo was great just didn't know what he was going on about most of the time.

Basically "Body of Lies" is another war film (a long war film) and really has no point or message to get across.

Body of Lies rates a confusing and rather bizarre 2 stars.

The Importance of being Earnest

Now playing @ Belvoir Street

A two man play, loads of costume changes and highly intellectual jokes galore!

This was well staged and well received!

The Importance of being Earnest receives three important stars.

NIDA - Third Year Showcase

Boy geez does NIDA have some talent this year, one of the third year students is already the lead in Yibiyung (which has transferred from Sydney to Melbourne).

The showcase even featured two fellas doing their best at a piece from the Pillowman.

Watch this space some of these young actors may even be in the next Australia film!
