What Has Britain Done! Samantha Bee Knows (and it ain't pretty!)

Aussies going to England might be able to shop up a storm now! The Pound is dropping quicker than a whores drawers and the LEAVE folk seem to be ducking for cover. Who'd ever thought our Mother land was as racist as Australia? Guess were not that different from our Commonwealth friends across the sea.

Australia a vote for the Liberal party may as well be a vote in the way of Brexit part 2.

So Australia like Samantha says, make your vote count, PROGRESS and SOCIETY matters.

American Gothic Season 1

CBS delivers a family of privileged strange folk with one of them being a murderer. But is American Gothic any good? Well the pilot sucked and the ratings (according to Wikipedia) were SUPER average! Like 3.43 million in a country with a population of over 320,000,000 people! Scary!

So why did I give this a go, one reason Justin Chatwin (Shameless, Canadian and hot) & Anthony Starr (Banshee, Kiwi and hot). Well that's really two reasons but the cast is pretty damn good really.

I am hoping this murder mystery improves as it's got one more episode before it completely loses my attention.

When there is quality US Summer dramas like UNreal, Devious Maids, Animal Kingdom and Ray Donovan slaying it, there is not much room on my dance card for average nonsense.

Let's take a quick peek at the shows first season and let me know are you keen on this new soap?

That Movie Gay #2016

Does the world need Independence Day: Resurgence and a 2nd film in this series? HELL NO!

Do we need the third film promised at the end of the film, an even harder and louder HELL NO! This reminded me of the last Transformers film, unwanted, incoherent, over long and over use of CGI.

I cannot say much about this film, the first half was extremely slow moving and dull, the second half was action, action and more CGI than you could poke a stick at!

The memory of the original film is strong and nostalgia plays a huge part with paintings of Will Smith and photos of the "old days". Maybe the old days is code for people eating this shit up and literally it's shit stinks.

Has the world changed so much since 1996 that we want to see an action film with feeling and some sense of a storyline? Well yes. And with a long series of comic book heroes on the big screen maybe we have turned our back on sic-fi and semi "original" ideas.

After a long run of sequels this film is similar to Now You See Me and is extremely disappointing. Reviews around the world have not be flattering and I am wondering how this will actually go as far as box office. My session last night, admittedly a cold Monday night, 11 people. Shit!

This is a bit of a stinker, 1 Star.

Bloodline Season 2

Is a slow burning, family drama with a bite. Netflix continues to serve up delicious and addictive drama, one after another. From the recreation of Marvel Super Hero TV to House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, Bloodline adds to a long list of MUST-SEE drama.

I have banged on a bit about drama lately, Wentworth Season 5 is beyond brilliant, Secret City on Foxtel is heaven, Cleverman is smart but trying to hard to fit too many issues into the one series, Love Child and Offspring have returned for those who like there drama light and fluffy.

It's a cold Aussie Winter and thank god for this arrival. The Golden Age of TV appears to be only getting stronger and longer. With more great return series on the way to Netflix like Sense8 (the ground breaking series of last year), Narcos (September 2, remember this inspired Kanye West to make his WORST album on record), Jessica Jones will bring more female kick ass action to the small screen with big screen budgets and action sequences and Baz Luhrmann's the Get Down will finally see the light of day.

The ABC is also super excited about there hot new drama from the The Slap team Barracuda. This four part drama event series looks amazing, super production and super slick. The ABC also has half a season of Rake to go, renewed Cleverman for a second outing and more of The Code on the way.

As a lover of drama I am setting up a home gym in front of the idiot box this Winter, girl I want to be speedo ready come October/November!

That Movie Gay #2016

Spoiler Alert: Get your tissues ready for ME BEFORE YOU

From slaying it on Game of Thrones and carrying on with Dragons Emilia Clarke takes on a romantic lead and an extremely adorable one. Me Before You has been slated by the critics but when I sat down and got into this film I was completely drawn into the world of romance.

Look it's predictable there are some characters we have seen 100 times before but overall this movie is super sweet and Emilia Clarke is literally divine with her clothes on (and wacky as fuck clothes at that) and with brown hair in place of her wild blonde weave on Game of Thrones.

After this week's bloody Game of Thrones and seeing this in a packed cinema (largely women of all ages and all chatty, drinking multiple wines and smashing through the stale, cold popcorn) I entered the world of the movies. Leave reality at the door and fall in love with the story and these likeable (and not so likeable) characters.

Seeing an actor being as versatile as Clarke is refreshing in 2016. I love Melissa McCarthy but she is always the slightly larger zany bitch, I love Zac Efron's hairy chest but it's the same in every film. So well done Clarke. Also to Aussie Steve Peacocke your second cinema release in a few months. After a small role in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot this was a slightly larger role and more meaty role as a very handsome male nurse.

Sam Claflin as the male lead was also good, handsome in a white boy handsome way and yes the end is heartbreaking and he broke my heart too ladies.

I was expecting the worst entering this film, but ended up really liking it, 3 Stars.

Comedy:

Really no nominations for Ronny Chieng this year (I know he only did his ABC pilot but he is a star in the USA now!), Nazeem Hussain (doing a great job with the sexy as fuck Michael Hing on drive right now), Rhys Nicholson, speaking of Triple J drive Michael Hing (so cute) and finally Tommy Little, not cute hot as fuck!

So therefore I am not a huge Tom Ballard fan (despite loving JJJ) and the others bore me.

Contemporary Music:

Best Australian Contemporary Concert:

Predicted Winner - Flight Facilities with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

Best International Contemporary Concert:

Predicted Winner - Gotta be Prince really doesn't it? The Piano and the Microphone tour.

Best Contemporary Festival:

Predicted Winner - Gotta be Laneway festival right? Every year they are at the forefront of the best new and upcoming artists.

I barely saw any plays, have no interest in Opera or cabaret so that is it for me, a year when clearly Matilda is going to smash it and I am saying it now over a year out Aladdin will clear the floor with nominations and awards next year.

Poor old Georgy Girl, not one nomination, how embarrassing! Clearly new Australian work isn't that important.

And if the supporting actor (female) does not go to Wendy Mae Brown, the whole thing is a complete disaster in my books. That woman saved what was technically a great show but the rest? WTF.

Interesting to see box office flop Fiddler on the Roof also get a couple of nods whilst We Will Rock You also not doing crash hot at the box office was completely overlooked to.

Cleverman - Australian Drama Incoming

I watched the first episode of Cleverman when it first aired and then got caught up on my other US shows, Wentworth and Secret City sent the bar for Aussie drama to a new high on Australian subscription TV and Sunday night I finally revisited Cleverman episode 2.

It was a lot more engaging and Ryan Corr bless his socks is like the new Ben Mendelsohn where he always plays a character who is just so damn dirty and always feels seconds away from being self destructing.

Hunter Page-Lochard is brilliant as the lead, attractive, serious and alongside fellow Secret City stars Marcus Graham & Miranda Tapsell. I'm just surprise Dan Wyllie is not in Cleverman as he seems to be in everything else!

The show isn't reaching the millions here, but being on Sundance TV in the US is also getting an airing there. It's also already been renewed for a second series. The first episode almost drew half a million viewers (who knows how many more on iView) however the latest episode last week only drew 257,000 viewers (158,000 in the USA) this is directly following Rake in it's fourth season raking in 605,000 viewers for it's fourth episode.

Australians right now are spoiled for choice for Aussie drama with Channel 9 finally airing season three of Love Child, channel 7 having Home and Away on four nights a week and we are hanging out for series two of 800 Words. Well I am not but some are. Channel Nine will also have another season of House Husbands and after a long wait Channel Ten has resurrected Offspring with Asher Keddie.

The ABC across there platforms is holding the line share of Aussie dramas with Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries still up in the air, Doctor Black Mysteries, Rake (now airing), The Code (returning soon), Cleverman, Tomorrow When the War Begun (ABC3), Nowhere Boys (ABC3), Janet King and Jack Irish.

Not to mention Stan delivering an excellent film to TV series of Wolf Creek and I am sure they will have more titles on the way.

Australian drama is healthy right now, so let's support and it and support local stories. God knows it's better than another season of the Briefcase, am I right?

Wet Weekend V2.0 Ahoy!

Here comes the rain again.... EHHHHHHH as Sydney and some of Australia prepares for another downfall of rain, what does one do with themselves in a City that craves the outdoors, says farewell to Vivid (well until another wet, cold Winter) and judges more books by there cover daily than a well seasoned book reviewer.

Another wet Sunday has meant time to catch up on haircuts and sleep, crappy TV and seeing my second favourite NRL team the New Zealand Warriors win a non fixed NRL game.

I have never been as excited about Summer as I was again this weekend. The wet, the cold apparently disappears again tomorrow just in time for the working week, sad face.

I did however start Bloodline Season 2 from Netflix but found the slow pace and the wet a little too much, I needed some more fast paced and less time consuming, hello Poh & Co over on SBS. What a delightful little series that has been such a welcome return to SBS's food but not 100% food shows.

As we say farewell to another weekend it's almost tax time and election time so get early pre polling to avoid a fine if you forgot on July 2.

That Movie Gay #2016

The first Conjuring film scared the poo outta me, the Annabelle spin off film had a similar reaction and now it's time for my fourth sequel in a row, THE CONJURING 2.

Aussie James Wan does it again directing this latest horror picture. After years on the Saw franchise and then a couple of Insidious films, The Conjuring seems to be the next franchise set to make lung Wan a load more $$$

Starring the dreamy and beautiful Patrick Wilson and Bates Motel legend Vera Farmiga they lead this talented young and older cast into another true haunting tale. Apparently a third film in the series and yet another spin off is in the works. Another Annabelle film is also set to hit the screens next year.

However was this any good? Well yes, it held the scares and also moving to the UK helped the franchise along giving it a different setting.

One can say all these creeping in the night, paranormal films are getting tired but aren't superhero films?

The Conjuring 2 was compelling, edge of your seat, damn good thrilling fun. I had a good outing at the cinema for this 4 stars. Well done James Wan.

To Hair or NOT to Hair

So the last few weeks I have caught up with a few people I haven't seen since Summer, i.e. when I had much shorter hairs. But now as it's Winter and I am growing my weave out y'all seem to like it a lot more long!

What, what. I am suddenly feeling like short hair (almost shaved) must be one hell of a mistake, so why didn't they tell me until an alternative was offered?

I know the week of the Orlando shooting, a politician killed in cold blood in the UK and an election about to hit, its the little things that sometimes always make me think.

Orlando shooting I think gun control is a massive issue that is constantly overlooked in the USA in place of praying. WTF is praying going to do about 50 dead people due to guns in the hands of mad folks.

Jo Cox, a politician killed in cold blood in the UK, I put this down to a preview of what may happen if Donald Trump continues his run to the White House. How many enemies must this man have?

An election about to hit, who will win? It's no sure thing for the Liberal Party, but it's no sure thing for a Labor upset. Will the Independents and Greens get up? If anything I learnt this week that the media is barking mad and so are some of the people running to run this country, frightening stuff.

Andrew Bolt what a lunatic. I mean really, question, doesn't listen, talks over the top of guest, provides no facts, Boom! Rinse and Repeat. You don't like his way of thinking, you will look like a decent human being, you agree, maybe you should read more than the Courier Mail, The Herald Sun or the Daily Telegraph.

But back to hair, if one thought about all the shit happening on a large scale all day long one would go mad. So for me as I wonder, worry and have hope for my fellow gay friends in Orlando, wish for a better government in Australia and feel so sad for Jo Cox's family.

Why is the world so violent? Why is the world filled with hate? And why on Earth is the media becoming more and more horrific. That said thanks Netflix Orange is the New Black Season 4 returns today!

Orlando, Guns and sheer Madness

Thanks for playing into Trump's hands again America.

Well done AGAIN Samantha Bee tells it like it is, full of facts and no spin or bullshit.

Again however Miranda Devine your piece and cartoon today are in EXTREMELY poor taste. What a vile, bitter and twisted woman you are, the Daily Telegraph again shame on you and your vile columnists. Bring on the death of print media if it gets rid of your horrific rants.

That Movie Gay #2016

It was my third sequel in one week, what was I thinking seeing TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS at the end of a long weekend, well a free pass had a lot to do with it!

So three sequels, Now You See Me 2 average, Alice Through the Looking Glass below average and now this one of my favourite cartoons, toys as a child growing up in the 80's/90's.

So I returned home from a dreamy weekend in Noosa away from Sydney, away from reality to take myself back out of reality and man was my local shopping centre and this session of a just released film quiet.

Yes Broadway Shops and this session had little going for it late afternoon/early evening/dinner time. Maybe it was the session time of 5:50pm a time I usually never would attend the cinema.

Anyway onto sequel number three for the week. With some new characters introduced and a promised third feature film in the Ninja Turtles franchise from Bay this was actually an improvement on the original.

The original film spent too much time explaining the Turtles, Splinter and April O'Neil, we get it we all remember the cartoons and the over priced made in China action figures.

I also nearly fainted when Laura Linney joined the cast as the Police Chief. I wanted to mount Shredder and did not remember how handsome Brain Tee/Shredder was, well that's because Shedder was played by another actor in the first film, weird.

Stephen Amell (Arrow) as Casey Jones was a brilliant addition as was the addition of bad guys Bebop and Rocksteady.

Overall the action was well done and the film was fast paced, hard n fast. I enjoyed it a lot more than Alice and a little more than Now You See Me 2. Michael Bay did some of his best work after that questionable last Transformers film. I actually am looking forward to the third (and final?) Ninja Turtles Film. 3 Stars.

That Movie Gay #2016

Back in 2010 we saw Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, now years later we get the sequel no one was asking for ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS.

The 2010 was a massive hit at the Box Office but this one has just made budget and even a few weeks after release and some shocking reviews I have a feeling this movie will soon disappear from Australian screens.

At first this movie is a visual feast for the eye with eye popping special effects and CGI madness but the plot gets thinner than Janet Jackson pre an album release.

The cast is decent and Ed Speleers is rather easy on the eye as James Harcourt but Johnny Depp (as much as he has been in the news far too much of late) as the Mad Hatter wears thin fast. Local Aussie star Mia Wasikowska has had more engaging roles and Helena Bonham Carer & Anne Hathaway just waltz through there respective roles.

I was underwhelmed by this film, but in all honesty I had low expectations and these low expectations were meet. This is a sequel which was only made out of greed I believe, 2 Stars for some outstanding costumes and visuals, but very bleak character development and storyline. Hopefully not TMNT2 will not be this much of a snorefest up next.

Queensland Beautiful One Day, Not So Perfect the Next

Well it was warm enough for shorts yesterday and thongs but today, it's cold overcast and I may even take in a film at the local cinema. After enjoying a complimentary breakfast, doing some local markets and even checking out a very local shopping destination. Oh Noosa.

At least we checked out the local Noosa National Park, the one highlight the check in lassie at the hotel said we should check out. When asking about any other highlights there seemed to be no more to mention.

Oh well one highlight per holiday destination is fine by me.

Long weekends the heaven that we all look forward to, even as a consultant billing on hours served I can happily say I would prefer a free and uninterrupted day rather than a working day anyway these days.

After Noosa and I lovely flight on Virgin I have the travel bug again, I think another trip to South East Asia may be on the horizon, watch this space...

Noosa Here I Cum - The June Long Weekend Files

After making FINAL CALL at Sydney's airport following a today Uber ride to the airport I made it safe and sound to Noosa. $6.10 for a medium Soy Latte in Sydney at the airport and then another $6.00 even at Maroochydore Airport.

Noosa is laid back and slightly warmer than Sydney in the heart of Winter. Not only that people talk to you and seem generally interested in your well being. A nice change from Sydney.

I also was lucky enough to spot Sydney Morning Herald writer and creator of The Family Law Mr Benjamin Law. He seems like a nice gentleman.

Oh the Long Weekend, thank heavens you are here, so nice to have three days of rest before the long part of Winter is looking me down the barrel.

Now I watch the extremely handsome New Zealand Warriors (my second favourite NRL team) serve it up to Newcastle Knights, go you good thing Issac Luke and Shaun Johnson.

Secret City - the next winning Australian Drama

When I have blogged for months (maybe years) that Australian TV is in the toilet, Foxtel has listened. Wentworth has returned with an EPIC fourth season delivering more brilliant strong female roles than any previous Aussie drama I can remember and now Secret City is killing it on Foxtel.

This Foxtel drama had it's debut on the weekend with one third of it's six run airing. Anna Torv (multi award winning Aussie actresses for her work on Fringe) is the lead and has an impressive all star cast behind her.

Jackie Weaver, Alex Dimitriades, Alan Dale, Marcus Graham, Miranda Tapsell (soon to also appear on Love Child) and Damon Herriman as Kim Gordon.

It's brilliantly set in the nations capital and could be an answer to the House of Cards political drama obsession. Foxtel has really got the Australian drama market by the balls and no sign of Rebecca Gibney anywhere, heaven.

Apparently around 80,000 folks tuned in for the first instalment, a far cry from the Masterchefs or The Voice but still an impressive start for drama on a paid service.

Cleverman has a beautiful cast and story behind it too and I believe this is being well received with a second series already ordered.

Thank god for Foxtel and these brilliant dramas filling a void for anyone with a brain.

That Movie Gay #2016

I know the first film was originally a box office surprise story but did we really need NOW YOU SEE ME 2? Other than for me to wish Dave Franco was sitting on my face?

This sequel is slick, well cast and has some great pumping soundtrack moments which Tourism Macau must have had a wet dream over.

Honestly I did enjoy the original concept of the magical first film but did we really need film 2 and film 3 which is in the works? Well according to today's Daily Telegraph the film did out perform the much better Money Monster.

So saying that it will be the number one box office film from a weekend where it was movies or shopping malls there could still be a market for this franchise. That said a lot of people could also not leave there homes last week due to the weather. So one way or another it was stay in or stay in somewhere dry other than your house.

The session I say I was a group of three (me and two lady friends) and there were two others in the cinema, a big Xtremescreen cinema. 5 people Vs a small Newtown Money Monster session 10am on Sunday or around 30-40 engaged inner city left leaning Greens voters.

So to the movie, really it was average, good second half, slow first half, good tricks at times, a bit of fun along the way but nothing to change the way I feel about a pending third film.

If sequels and re-makes are the new Black and only 10% of films are edgy, interest and diverse Jodie Foster directed films, I will be heading to the cinema a lot less.

That said the next film I will review will most likely be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

Overall a VERY average 2.5 Stars for this sequel.

That Movie Gay #2016

It's only mid way through 2016 and I might have found my movie (or at least top 3) movie of the year, MONEY MONSTER is out now!

So Sydney's weather SUX BALLS this weekend and poor old Vivid, man thank god for all those sold out concerts right! Who in there right mind would want to be walking around Sydney (one of the most rain UNFRIENDLY cities in the world) to look at lights and "installations".

So there is Sydney right now in a paragraph and this film really should shot straight to number one of the Aussie box office next week. And with the East Coast suffering a F load of rain, Hoyts, Dendy, Greater Union or Event Cinemas should all be laughing all the way to the over priced popcorn money machines.

Money Monster is a rare Thriller in the 2016 films cape. We have superhero films, we have Disney films, we have action films, re have reboots, we have sequels, we have shit house dramas like Julia Roberts last outing, Mother's Day but a good thriller is hard to find. However FOUND ONE.

Money Monster has a ridiculous good cast, from TV heroes Dominic West (Showtime's best drama The Affair) to Caitriona Balfe (the epic Outlander) and then the queens and kings of Hollywood in Clooney and Roberts. Both who excel in this riveting, edge of your seat, borrow, steal or rush out to buy a ticket film of my weekend.

The Nice Guys was great, X-Men was average and this was plain Next Level shit. Such a solid and well told story which I will give you no spoilers, just Jodie Foster, get back in that Directors chair ASAP. I mean as a director Cameron Crowe couldn't direct piss into a bucket in his recent films (ALOHA worst film of a decade) but Foster just seems to do this with ease.

This film was outstanding, I'm doing it, 5 GOLDEN stars, just a great all round film.

That Movie Gay #2016

Where does one begin with the third X-Men film X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. The cast is a good start, it's brilliant, vast and a lot of talent in this one franchise film, but is a good cast and two good movies in the series all it takes to make a third solid film? No, not on your nelly.

X-Men: Apocalypse has had some shocking reviews and a totally different reception than the past couple of movies.

Look the action is sublime and the regular message of the X-Men series is there and even Hugh Jackman's hugely popular character has a very quick romp. But on a wet Sydney Saturday is this the best film to take in, this crowded movie week?

Maybe not I enjoyed The Nice Guys a little more last night and I have a funny feeling tomorrow I am going to have a ball at Money Monster so to me the third film in the rebooted series may not be the best in the superhero genre.

Deadpool (an X-Men spinoff) was so refreshing as it took the superhero genre, added sexy stuff, swear words and more graphic cartoon stylised violence. The problem with Marvel and DC releasing a superhero film a month you need a point and difference and this is void of one.

It lacks difference and just stays on the safe ground of a great ensemble and their individual strengths.

Look it's not all bad, it is funny and there is some references to the genre and the third film not being the best in a series. All in all it's not too be taken too seriously and I basically think in a week or so I'll delete this from my memory. 2.5 Stars.

That Movie Gay #2016

So it's not a guy who steals the show in THE NICE GUYS it's young Australian Angourie Rice, just fabulous!

Gosling on the other hand is only getting better looking with age, at 35 he finally gave me a semi in the movies and he didn't even get naked, that facial hair.

The Nice Guys has a great cast Gosling, Crowe and young Aussie Rice and the film has a lot of fun along the way. It looks fab and fresh for a 70's spy, thriller and honestly for it's second week on a Friday night had a tidy audience against X-Men, Now You See Me 2 and Money Monster.

It was a nice return as well for me to the cinema outside of a 10am Sunday session where you could be the only one in the session if your lucky.

Matt Bomer as well from Ryan Murphy shows like Glee and America Horror Story was equally entertaining as the bad gun for hire.

Overall I enjoyed this film a lot, 3.5 Stars, go out and see this NOW, it's gonna be wet this weekend in Sydney SO DO IT!

Winter isn't Coming, it's HERE

Another season comes through the doors and it's fucking cold, wet and miserable in Sydney and that's just the people. The weather is equally as drab and I am looking forward to three months in of catching up on Netflix series (Lady Dynamite & Bloodline Season 2) and trying to continue my gym classes.

May was not that month of Moving I was originally hoping for and now I just have to hope to shit that I Spring into September in coming months.

However Winter is the time to make a difference on your body and health. While those are sitting around stuffing there faces watching The Voice it's time to continue your normal routine and pump it up this Winter. I have done my three classes for the week and may even have a little after work gym session tomorrow night.

The weekend afternoons has been my normal gym time but for maximum eye candy and encouragement evenings are definitely golden opportunities.

So Winter is here, Vivid is drawing the masses in from the West and god forbid the Shire, the election is almost here and tax time is making accountants moist at the thought of GST and expenses.

This year is really powering along and has it been a good year? Fuck knows, I have meet some of the most interesting and varied people this year, I have had a few trips away and next week I am doing a domestic trip. Yes I am discovering Queensland, holy mother fucker.

Now if you do get a chance to watch one show this week make it the most recent episode of VEEP. I talk about it below, it's FAB!

Veep & Cuntgate

This week's episode of Veep cements the show in my mind as the funniest show on television in years. I not only almost wet my pants multiple times but found myself getting a complete abb workout from the sheer rapid fire of amazing one liners.

Next week also promises to continue to dish up the most brilliant 30 minute comedy on TV. Veep is evidence the Golden Age of TV lives on.
