Cinema Slut #2019 - Aladdin (2019 film)

I have had reservations about these Disney live remakes, I missed Dumbo on purpose and now 4 out of 5 of the top grossing films of 2019 are Disney films.

Aladdin starts off with Will Smith telling a tale and almost from that moment I knew I was not going to love this remake.

I saw the wonderful musical of Aladdin a few years back in Melbourne and enjoyed it, it was magical while having more special shiny effects than the much bigger Disney musical, The Lion King, but on film, I think I prefer the cartoon.



Robin Williams would always be tough to out Genie and in the musical the Genie makes the entire show, in the movie Will Smith kind of just looks outta place.

Some scenes are bright and beautiful while Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott as Aladdin and Jasmine respectively are fine, however in a well known tale, the chemistry is not really there.

The big and well known songs pop whilst DJ Khaled teams up with Smith for a remix of a Friend Like Me. Zayn Malik featuring Zhavia Ward also released a cover of a Whole New World.

Look I remember playing the Aladdin game on my Sega Mega Drive so I most likely enjoyed the film, but this was a bit forgettable.

It's a little sad people are now growing up with carbon copies of movies from the 90's, I really hope we do get some more original stories soon.

I will pass this but will likely no give The Lion King a miss. 2.5 Stars.

Lambs of God | Foxtel Does it AGAIN!

Lead by an all star cast Foxtel's latest Australian drama Lambs of God, continues to show the pay TV network along with the ABC is the leader in Australian drama.

Former ABC megastar Essie Davis stars as Sister Iphigenia, Handmaid's Tale pivotal Aunt Lydia Ann Dowd stars as the bitter and rather twisted Sister Margarita and Jessica Barden as Sister Carla.

Joining the three mad nuns is Sam Reid as Father Ignatius, Kate Mulvany as Frankie, Daniel Henshall as Barnaby and John Bell stars in this little gem.

Filming showcasing the beautiful Blue Mountains and Tasmania.

This is an exceptional mini series, which focuses on the secluded three nuns, a visitor and the events after the visitor (a man, a first for the ladies in a while!) enters there forgotten church property.

It's an interesting little series, has a sexy side, reminds me a little of Kathy Bates in Misery whilst showcasing Australia.

It is great having Ann Dowd in Australia for this, what a win! Check it out now, it's streaming on Foxtel Now or Play or whatever the fuck their marketing team is calling it, at this point in time.

Wentworth, Episode Nine

WOW! So we now have to wait till next Tuesday at 8:30pm to see what is in order for Vera aka Vinegar Tits.

What a huge episode Under Siege, Part 1 was, I am so desperate for Under Siege, Part 2. So other than Vera and her unborn child who's lives are in danger or characters are at the end of their run?

Rita aka Rita the beater - maybe, she is trapped next door to all the drama

Liz - her meds are on the blink and we need to know the deal about Dr. Greg Miller ASAP!

Boomer and her mum - nah I reckon they are both safe AF

Will Jackson - Are Marie's affair with Will how on Earth can he remain as Governor?

Allie - I reckon they will keep her around despite her story being mostly told....

Jake - Could he actually end up being the next Governor?

Ruby - Her health has been an issue all season, will it all come to an end? Will Rita actually get the gig as Top Dog? Marie is surely either going to die or escape or be shipped off somewhere else!

Marie - Everything has been leading up to her actions, did she actually kill Kaz? Will she live? If she lives will she remain Top Dog and at Wentworth?

Linda aka Smiles - I reckon her time is up, this season she has gone to some low places, it could all be the end for her...

Dr. Greg Miller - Is he good or evil? I don't actually know.

As lives hang in the balance and we have very few original cast members left what does season eight have in order for us Wentworth fans?

Cinema Slut #2019 - Spider-Man: Far From Home

Marvel/Sony is back! For the latest Marvel movie news, click HERE. Yes Phase Four plans have been announced at Comic Con. So much news in regards to Comic Con all weekend!

Spider-Man: Far From Home is honestly the most PG Marvel movie I have seen in ages, the cast however is outstanding!

Joining Tom Holland is Zendaya as the love interest MJ which is a little hard to take after her new role in Euphoria now screening on HBO.

Samuel L Jackson also brings back to the big screen his character as Nick Fury.



Jake Gyllenhaal as Quentin Beck / Mysterio is as handsome as ever, man will he ever not be super handsome.

So the movie, the first half is a little dull as it's like Marvel does Euro Trip, then the action and the plot finally kicks in. The action scenes are fun, with the conclusion being a bit of a CGI London mess.

Look it's enjoyable, it's just a plot/film we have all most likely seen before. Whilst being fun, I am hoping Phase Four has a few more surprises up it's sleeve, this is super safe fun for your kids. 3 Stars, mainly for Jake...

Sunday Spotlight: SZA

Solána Imani Rowe AKA SZA has been in town as part of Splendour in the Grass 2019, over on my other BLOG I will recap some of the highlights as well as feature a pile of artists who played the massive event this weekend.

Splendour is clearly the biggest music festival now on the Australian festival circuit and one exciting things abut festivals is massive sideshows. I was lucky enough to catch SZA at Sydney's fabulous Hordern Pavilion.

The set list largely included songs from her fantastic debut album Ctrl, however SZA also threw in a few fancy covers like Kiss Me and Teenage Dirtbag. Born in the 1990's SZA clearly has a soft spot for 90's pop!

I enjoyed this concert so much, from the opening track Supermodel (same opener as the album) to the encore of Prom.

SZA is a class act, so if you haven't already, discover her now! Stream Ctrl in full as well as some fancy videos for good measure...

Cinema Slut #2019 - Crawl

Alexandre Aja has directed a brilliant survival film that coming up against the Lion King will be gone within a flash!

Yes Disney has taken over the cinemas once again with the Lion King, following on from Aladdin, before that Dumbo, soon to come The Little Mermaid and Mulan. Fuck me, remake, remake, remake.

So it's refreshing for a film like Crawl to get a limited release, and right now I mean limited.



Crawl is terrifying, alligators are terrifying, leads Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper are exceptional as father/daughter alligator slaying duo.

I loved every minute of this edge of your seat thriller. I loved most, not a minute to waste 87 minutes of pure action and adrenaline.

Crawl on paper sounds silly, alligators entering people's homes and terrorising them, but with the fucked out state of our weather and the number of sightings of gators in Florida, it's actually kinda scary.

Don't crawl to the cinema, run or swim fast to see this film, on the big screen and epic sound system you hear every bone crunch and feel ever tense moment stuck in this Florida home.

4 Stars, a great thrill ride.

TV in (Q4) 2019

Quarter 4 in 2019 is when all your US favourite shows return, day by day on the five big networks let's look at what I'll be watching....

Sundays -
The CW is where it is at on Sundays in 2019-2020 with a double blast of lady super heroes Supergirl and Batwoman (NEW). Batwoman is one of few new titles joining The CW stable as most of their shows are back from the 2018-2019 season

Mondays -
On a manic Monday you can relax by dialling 9-1-1 for a third outing, whilst agin on The CW it's more super heroes from the DC stable, this time Black Lightning will also return for a third outing.

Tuesdays -
FOX has not much to offer this season and long term Wednesday series Empire moves to Tuesdays for it's swan song. Show partner and one or two time crossover show Star will hopefully see a finale TV movie at some stage before it vanishes for good. And what a surprise on The CW The Flash returns, will this be it's final season now we will say goodbye to Arrow this year?

Wednesdays -
Riverdale returns to The CW and Netflix internationally, the show will also see a midseason spin off Katy Keene kick off. Wednesday nights on The CW will also see another new series to youth network, Nancy Drew. I am undecided if I will watch it, but I am hoping it will be a refreshing new series for the station.

Thursdays -
The ABC says goodbye to another Shonda hit. Yes it's shed viewers over the past few seasons, but HTGAWM was once great. At least from the get go we know this is the end for Viola Davis and her gang of misfits. Station 19 on ABC will also return on Thursdays. I believe midseason so we will see when that is.

Fridays -
The Blacklist returns as one of my final shows on NBC I watch. Alongside midseason final season of Blindspot. NBC however is a powerhouse right now, however I am not really a This is Us kinda guy. Dynasty is one of the few shows on The CW that is not originally from the DC warehouse.

Midseason shows coming to a TV near you or a streaming service of your choice -

Blindspot, as above returns for a shorter fifth and final outing, what will happen to the crew after that "explosive" season four finale. Legends Of Tomorrow is the poor cousin of The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl and will fit in where required on The CW's packed schedule.

FOX is launching two new series, one is a spin off 9-1-1: Lone Star of surprise, surprise 9-1-1. Whilst a Sex and The City lady fronts, Filthy Rich. I am not 100% sure if I will give this one a go, but it looks camp and fun.

As as Station 19 returns on Thursdays midseason whilst Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D seventh season is parked for Summer. Speaking of summer and seventh seasons The 100 returns in the Summer of 2020.

Riverdale spin off Katy Keene is yet to share it's premiere date, however I think it'll be big since it's another Archie series.
