COVID-Cinema 2020 - Antebellum

Antebellum is the latest in my COVID-Cinema 2020 series.

Starring Janelle Monáe, Eric Lange, Jena Malone, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, and Gabourey Sidibe, the movie takes a strange plot twist. It follows a modern-day African-American woman who must escape from a 19th-century Southern slave plantation.

Antebellum was never released in US cinemas, opting to go down the Premium video on demand route mid September.

The film landed here in Australia this week. In time for school holidays and the long weekend in NSW.

OK this will not be everyone's cup of tea, its very political in a time when almost everything is political. Even Donald Trump going to hospital appears to be political.

Janelle Monáe is fabulous as Veronica Henley / Eden and Gabourey Sidibe as Dawn adds some sass and comedy to a dark film.

Like Get Out and Us before Antebellum this is a wild ride with a BIG plot twist. Once the plot twist is revealed its a wild ride.

I enjoyed this and was sadly the only one in my large cinema when I saw it. 4 Stars for Antebellum, screening now.
