43 days till I go Bonkers in Honkers

Number 43 in things that make me BONKERS:

Last season was so hit & miss and this season is just a miss, three songs in the last episode and all of them show tunes? really Ryan Murphy? This season hasn't started well and boy and I hope it improves or there will be no series 4 and the ratings right now are not happening!

OMG 43 days till Honkers and Bangers, SHIT!

Goldie Cheung has left UK X Factor

My world is over, you hear me OVER!

I want you back on TV Goldie!

44 days till I go Bonkers in Honkers

Number 44 in things that make me BONKERS:

Last night in my new Nike trainers in the wet and cold I almost slipped over 3 no make that 4 times and broke my neck, slippery wet ground in Sydney is a death trap! And I'm too old too be slipping all over the shop.

So today's BONKERS item is slippery surfaces!

Want to Indulge in 10,000 Beers

Playing @ Darlinghurst Theatre Until October 9th

When the opening scene features 4 naked bodies you don't know what to expect! You definately don't know where to look and you don't know why the show starts like this. Oh well it was a nice start in a way :)

To start off if you are easily offended this play is definately not for you, it features a bag load of strong language, full frontal nudity, crude humour and strong ass adult themes.

Okay now the warning is out of the way this was funny, yet sad, confronting yet light and so appropriate at this time of the year when I can almost see the Bulldogs off on a team bender trying to consume 10,000 beers.

I highly recommend this for guys who think drinking on the weekend is cool and drinking to the point of spewing, punching another dude (or worse hitting a woman) and having random unprotected sex.

This show has four stars in the cast and has a really bright future, I totally think this play could tour, it would be great to hit regional Austyralia and not just the soy decaf half strength double lattes in the city.

10,000 Beers rates a alcohol induced 4 stars.

45 days till I go Bonkers in Honkers

Number 45 in things that make me BONKERS:

Why do I have issues with Facebook? What ever happened to meeting someone for coffee? Who pokes people in public? How much time does one waste liking other people's comments or photos? And why do businesses think that letting everyone have a free shot at your products, your company line online and let the world slip about maybe bad service, bad experiences, dodgy movies, bad TV etc

I think Facebook is a fail of a fad and I can't wait till people move on. Facebook definitely drives me BONKERS!

I'm totally counting down things that send me BONKERS over the next month or so, so keep looking back.

Film Freak 2011 - Abduction

Abduction has been getting the worst reviews around and yes Taylor Launter is not the best actor but he is cute and will grow into a handsome man once he is bigger and older, way too much like jail bait right now.

Okay so back to the film and the best bits are in the trailer unfortunately and the action scenes aren't that ground breaking however at the Edge on it's massive screen and for my discount card offer of $12.50 it was a bargain basement.

I like the cinema complex more than the movie which is a little disturbing.

Anyway I feel sorry for Sigourney Weaver she seems hard up now and appearing in this B grade feature will not help her Hollywood Longevity.

Abduction isn't bad it just isn't anything new, the plot, the action sequences, the handsome young lead, it's all been done before and the soundtrack also was lame oh so lame.

Abduction will pass for Taylor's shirtless scenes 2.5 hunky stars.

The fog never stops in the wet Blue Moutains

Well after a great weekend away in the lovely Blue Mountains I start the very quick countdown to going Bonkers in Honkers! Yes I believe it's only 46 days! I can't hardly wait and I will blog away as I did in the states so look out!

Okay so the Blue Mountains, highlights:

Katoomba - Loved old Scenic World it made Disney World in Orlando look amateur hour, LOL and not, no it was fun, shame for all the mist and bad weather. Food wise loved the Twelve Tribes run, Common Ground Cafe, also the art deco restaurant Avalon.

Leura - The Indian restaurant Tamarind was just lovely in the mall, the shops left a bit to be desired, so expensive for such old fashioned home wares in the Mall.

The Edge cinema I think it falls into Katoomba, very good cinema and cheap prices before the $2 hike next week, what a rip off! Film review up next too by the way.

Also the hotel/studio apartment we stayed in The Falls at Wentworth Falls thanks Rash for the heads up on this place!

Overall the Blue Mountains was lovely despite the fog and the rain, why is it every time I decide to venture out on the M4 it pisses down with rain, I think it's a sign that I need to stay out of the West.

The Book of Everything - Opening Night

York Theatre Seymour Centre
20 September - 1 October

After seeing this a year or so again I was delighted to be asked to attend the opening night of the return to Sydney of this wonderful semi childrens, semi adult play.

Now at the larger Seymour Centre the Book of Everything is a fun, sometimes dark but mostly playful and fun play which is just so nice to watch and enjoy. Also the crowd interaction part is really nice too.

The cast is excellent and it really works in the Seymour Centre. This play is a great play for all ages and it was great to hear so many kids laughing at the parts I didn't think were funny but they obviously did. So great seeing what appeals to different ages in live theatre.

The Book of Everything runs until the October Long Weekend, thank god that is close PS. And I give this the second tiem around 4 stars.

Glee Season 3 - My Reaction

So far not overly excited, interesting way to writting Sam out of the series, boring that Blaine is now at Kurt's school and why does Mercedes never get a solo anymore?

Must give props to them for getting Matthew Morrison's shirt off but other than that not an overly exciting opening to the third and in my mind maybe the last season.

If your interested next week's preview can be found below:

Tomorrow Night - The Book of Everything Opening Night

How excitement, wait for my review soon....

May not have the Internet on the weekend as it's off to the Blue Mountains to hang out with the Three Sisters.

Also coming soon, I must see Abduction, can't wait!

Best Second series EVER!

OMG the Big C this year has just been terrific and I totally can't wait till next week's finale, however I think I'll need the tissues ready as last seasons was one of the most amazing pieces of TV I have ever seen.

Please see a trailer below for next week's finale, I just can't tell you lovely people out there how much I have enjoyed this series and so excited for the ten episode season 3 next year:

Get your tissues ready, you've been warned.

Film Freak 2011 - Footloose - 2011 Remake {Preview}

Okay I have never seen the original and I don't have the whole attitude of you can't touch that film! So I got in early and saw a preview screening and one of my personal pet hates is not seeing the start to a film and I did miss the start of this so I was off to a rocky start....

However the film's dance scenes and camp music really sucked me in. It was a great relief to see a movie in 2011 which really made me smile and laugh, note to self re: some good one liners.

The lead Kenny Wormald is great and he shines on the screen, however the female lead really blows, literally.

Can I say overall this film is not going to win awards, a lot of the original fans are gonna hate and let's face it MTV are behind it so you know.

Okay I can't mark this down at all except missing the start which wasn't the movies fault.

Instant Dance Classic!

5. Little Dragon - Ritual Union

What a base line!

Film Freak 2011 - Fright Night (3D)

Dear Reader,

Have you ever been to the movies expecting a real masterpiece and you leave thinking, WTF? Well I thought with Colin Farrell & Toni Collette starring in a horror type film could be pretty good, well let me tell you it was nothing more than a massive disappointment.

3D again and why? The 3D effect was so under used it was amazing. Can I also say the film was released yesterday in Australia and when I went last night(opening night) there were 4 people in the cinema (okay I was at Fox Studios where no one in their right mind attends unless they want to see an X Factor filming).

So why did this suck (no reference to Vampires!), mainly because one it wasn't scary, two Colin Farrell keep his clothes on when he was looking mighty fit, three Toni Collette did nothing, in the end I just sat their stunned mainly caused they decided to do a cover version of Jay Z's classic 99 Problems in Mumford & Son's folk style, WHAT???

Interesting fact though the lovely James Franco, well his brohter, who will be super hot in 3-5 years time is in this film, google him Dave Franco, what a clever family.

Okay this film isn't clever, funny or scary, I still don't know if it's meant to be a piss take or a piss weak vampire cash in film, unfortunately it can only get 2 stars.

Cuming Soon...

Tonight - Fright Night 3D REVIEW
Friday - And They Called Him Mr Glamour
Monday next week - Footloose - Remake preview screening
Thursday next week - The Book of Everything - Opening Night

So heaps of reviews coming soon, sorry for my slack September, busy month and the countdown to Christmas is on!! Can you believe it.

TV in 2011 - a wrap for True Blood

This year True Blood jumped into the realm of witches and did it well, the book for the fourth series was great and the series turned out to be one hell of a wild ride and the series finale, WOW! I can't believe the amount of characters who meant their end and also the number of characters who are on their way back in series 5 possibly.

There has been criticism for this series of the popular cult hit but it's already back for 2012 and I think it is going to be massive.

The Big C has also continued to raise the bar but their showtime partner Weeds really seems to have lost it's way (again!).

Back to Aussie TV I will definitely be giving Wild Boys a miss from now on, Underbelly - Razor is already starting to lose me and others I speak to, I hate to be anti Aussie but X Factor (although rating well) is again another poor man's version of the UK version of the show and with the USA's first series starting next week the Aussie version just looks like a cheap and nasty pirate version of our motherlands massive hit.

Also are we ready, Glee series three and Desperate Housewives before return very soon and Dexter is at the start of October, so keen for Dexter!

Stick around more TV reviews soon.......

Sydney Fringe Festival hits Sydney for a take two

Mongrel - The Newtown Theatre

Okay so I never attended anything at the Fringe festival last year except the launch which had no shows to be announced at the time of the launch just an occasion for a complimentary drink. So I was keen to see what the Festival was all about and also go with a friend to support a friend in a two person play she starred in at the very interesting Newtown Theatre.

Okay so if you have read my blog you would know I go to a lot of theatre and going to a theatre 15 minutes before the show and being told to be quiet because there is another show going on over the curtain from the foyer was outrageous. And the running times and late start was a little amateur.

So after a poor start I wasn't expecting much and after reading the synopsis online after I saw it, it pretty much sums up all that happens:

David is sick of being alone. David has a plan. And it’s a doozy.

Well it was a doozy it seemed like an unbelievable and incomplete piece. I found the whole play and evening slightly weird but I guess that's fringe, slightly weird and maybe even a little slightly odd way.

I can only give Mongrel 2 stars as I knew people invovled with it.

Reviews, for Wed 7 Sep 2011

Okay the free OOVIE today for me was Battle: Los Angeles, and I can honestly say it was a lame as hell action film with decent action scenes but very little enjoyable about it.

Then the new ABC Wednesday prime time comedy "At Home with Julia", well with a low preferred prime minister rating right now this might not be the best time for a comedy making fun of her.

In the end I never laughed but thought how weird this was to be on the ABC funded by the government and making a complete koje of our PM. Also why was Julia made out to be a horny middle aged woman, to me I don't see her and think sex, I think how hard it would be to be so disliked.

Overall I found this a little bit lacking after the decent Wednesday night viewing in months pasted and also before the glourious Movie Show with the lovely David & Margaret.

Okay so Battle: Los Angeles was crap and I hate to say so was At Home with Julia.

Bring on some good TV I say, coming soon like early October is Dexter - season Six, Glee series 3 launches in September as does the 8th and final Desperate Housewives season. Also renewed recently the Big C, season three coming next year, hooray!

Currently watching Underbelly - NZ

LOL Choice Bro

I don't like periods and I think period pieces on the telly bore me

Another look at TV in 2011 and we find some of the same, True Blood this year is killing it in the ratings in the USA and with the season finale coming next week it's gonna go off like a frog in a sock. Who ever thought witches would make such great viewing!

Now onto the new Aussie shows, Wild Boys on Seven and the fourth installment of Underbelly on Nine. Both period pieces and both on Sunday nights. First up Wild Boys and don't get me wrong Daniel MacPherson is sex on toast and I loved Chances with Jeremy Sims but this show totally blew. A 7:30pm action/drama show just doesn't have the same bang as what can go on in an 8:30pm prime time show. Like in Underbelly - Razor.

Based in Sydney and surrounds Underbelly Razor started with a BIG bang but has since failed to hit the same levels, the leads are a little dull and I don't know whether it will hold an audience thoughout the 13 episodes.

Underbelly is classy and sharp however Wild Boys seemed very amateur and random, it's kinda like Seven thought we are done with boring dramas like Packed to the Rafters and Winner & Losers were nothing happens so let's try our hand at action.

Nine on the other hand this year alone have lost Sea Patrol and Rescue Special Ops leaving them mainly just with Underbelly for Aussie drama, it is a sad time at the once great station.

So my reviews:

True Blood Season 4 - 5 flawless and engaging stars
Wild Boys - 1 star for Daniel MacPherson
Underbelly - Razor - 2 and a half stars I'll give it a bit more of a go

Film Freak 2011 - Final Destination 5 (3D)

Five films in and this franchise feels more dated the dead and buried Saw franchise.

The acting at times in the fifth leg of this part supernatural, part gore fest thriller was horrid and with no real stars there is no major drawcard for your $21 on a cheap Tuesday for a gosh damn 3D movie.

So it sounds pretty bad so far... well it is kinda fun in a way but the gore level is a little bit too much at times, but when it is so fake and so silly it is not that offence nor scary like the said Saw and Hostel films.

The bridge scene is good, film on a bridge I had crossed in Vancouver the Lions Gate bridge from Vancouver to North Vancouver, so that was rad.

Anyway overall can't say this was too grand with the acting and the gore bringing it down for me.

Final Destination 6 & 7 if green lit by the studios needs to recreate and reboot these if they want to be successful, I give this two deathly stars.

Album of the year nomination number 3

So joining Adele's 21, The Wombats this Modern Glitch is an album which will shape 2011 and 2012 accordingly, it's a massive collaboration effort and then some with guests a plenty.

2011 has been a BIG year in music Adele is all over the charts, David Guetta's collaborations continue to move units, Australia's X Factor is still rubbish, new Aussie bands are comign out of nowhere and selling out decent venues and Australia's love affair with music festivals seems to be all but over.

2011 a year in music, could not be complete without Kanye West and Jay Z's album "Watch the Throne", it's epic, it's big and it's my third nomination in my Blog's second annual album of the year.

It's definately the hip hop CD of 2011 and an album to watch with songs like "H.A.M", "Otis" and "Lift off w/ Beyonce" all doing well already. Keep an eye on "That's my Bitch" my personal favourite teaming up with La Roux and production by Q Tip.

This is an epic album and a favourite of mine to date so with this in mind, well done to Kanye West and Jay Z.

Film Freak 2011 - the Help

Get your tissues ready and your bladders empty this is gonna be a long tear jerker of a film.

Oh boy this film is a chick flick but even the toughest men would be moved in this emotional and endearing tale of the 1960's in Jackson, USA.

Okay so it's long and David and Margaret didn't really like it, but after a couple of work drinks and a c*** of a week I really got into and loved the characters and there motives.

The white upper class women were totally vile while Emma Stone as Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan was the most delightful character in film in 2011. The supporting cast and cast of this largely female ensemble were just great. I had tears, I laughed and I just enjoyed this at times sad but also feel good drama.

It again has been a big success at the box office showing hard times in 2011 definately are not affecting the number of people seeing good quality films.

There haven't been many good dramas for 2011 so let's enjoy this, the Help it rates a helpful 4 stars after a rough week.

Classy New Aussie/NZ ANZAC maybe new music

Kimbra's Vow's album dropped yesterday and here is a great new taste from it, the classy looking clip and great sounding tune "Good Intent":
