Get Outta da House Cinema 2023 - The Exorcist: Believer

The Exorcist: Believer serves as a sequel to The Exorcist (1973), which I have only seen parts of. Not the entire spook fest. Yes it's Halloween season so the horror TV (Chucky, American Horror Story, Goosebumps and even American Horror Stories) and film are in hyperdrive.

That said horror has been a busy film genre over the last five years or so. Maybe it is reflecting our modern horror society.

See any Peter Dutton photo, you get the vibe!

This is the sixth installment in The Exorcist franchise, starring hottie Leslie Odom Jr., Lidya Jewett, Olivia O‘Neill, Jennifer Nettles, Norbert Leo Butz and Ann Dowd, with Ellen Burstyn & Linda Blair reprising their roles from the 1973 film.

The plot follows a photographer who must confront the nadir of evil when his daughter and her best friend are possessed.

Jason Blum is again involved while Ann Dowd drops the Aunt Lydia role for a helpful nurse.

There are now intentions of launching a new trilogy of The Exorcist films. With a sequel, entitled The Exorcist: Deceiver, is scheduled to be released mid April, 2025.

Could that be worth the wait? Is there need for another religious horror film?

The Exorcist: Believer has received negative reviews from critics, however I didn't mind it. It had some modern twists, some freaky moments, all perfect for pre-Halloween. Yes if you go to your local Coles, it's a thing in Australia now!

All in all, this wasn't bad. But not great. An October spook-fest pass, 2.5 Stars.
