Scorchin' Summer Streamin' 25 - The Rainmaker - Season One

The Rainmaker was one of those shows I had on in the background after playing catch up to this week-to-week legal drama on Stan.

Does the show name sound familiar? Getting Matt Damon vibes? Well that could be because, its based on John Grisham's 1995 novel of the same name. It was of course also a film.

Starring Milo Callaghan, John Slattery, Lana Parrilla. The ten episode first season follows a hotshot young lawyer is fired from his prestigious white-collar firm and signs on with a small-time ambulance chaser and her less-than-honest paralegal who work out of a converted former restaurant.

He soon finds himself facing off against his former employer in court when he takes on a wrongful death suit involving an African American man who died while undergoing hospital care.

In the US, this streams on the USA network which ceased airing dramas for a bit. Like the TNT network, it's starting to build up its drama catalogue again.

That said has this show earned any buzz or interest to warrant a second run? I think not.

The finale was blah after a fairly safe first season.

The characters weren't all that likeable, while legal drama on Disney+ (also currently streaming week-to-week) Reasonable Doubt does a lot better. Also has a banging soundtrack and interesting, flawed characters.

This felt lazy programming, trading on the Matt Damon/Claire Danes films success in the late 90's.

So if you have a lazy Sunday or need something to stream whilst you spring clean, maybe chuck this on in the background. It won't change your life, but the lead is sorta cute.
