Scorchin' Summer Streamin' 25 - RFDS - Season Three

Back in October 2023, RFDS was announced that the series would be renewed for a third season, which concluded with a double episode last Wednesday.

Now this show has been a ratings winners for the Seven Network. Drama at 7:30pm Wednesday nights worked.

Who would have thought?

Also with a lead in of popular soap, Home & Away, Seven brought drama TV back to primetime on Wednesdays.

Production commenced last August, with filming starting in South Australia, in Adelaide Studios as well as on location in the Flinders Ranges town of Quorn, the Port Augusta RFDS Base and regional surrounds, which will double for Broken Hill, as the real Broken Hill airport and RFDS base were being upgraded.

The third season finally premiered at the start of October. This followed on from season two wrapping October 2023. So it's generally a long time between drinks for this series.

Seven also left off RFDS at their upfront presentation for 2026. Sadly the only confirmed local drama for 2026, will be Home & Away.

This leaves Seven far behind Channels 9 & 10. Who though their respective streaming platforms Stan and Paramount+ are kicking Seven's ass in the output of local drama.

As Seven don't have a streaming platform (other than the ad heavy 7plus) there drama output is left to the primary and secondary channels.

Anyway aside from the poor station of local dramas on network TV, let's chat season three of RFDS below.

If you haven't watched the finale. you may not know the cliffhanger revolves around Emma Hamilton as Dr. Eliza Harrod, in Stephen Peacocke's as Nurse Pete Emerson arms.

Their on again off again, will they get back together is a key plot line in season three.

Rob Collins as Dr. Wayne Yates continues to shine, although he questions his upcoming wedding too to,Ash Ricardo as Mira Ortez.

While the gay character on the series, Jack Scott as Nurse Matty Harris has a love triangle with a bisexual cop, which Emma Harvie as Chaya Batra has also been shagging. Chaya also has many plot points, including a connection to the early on bus crash at the start of the season.

The bus crash and multiple incidents across the season begun to feel like an Aussie version of 9-1-1.

The third season also starred, Rodney Afif as Graham Morley, Sofia Nolan as Taylor Emerson, Thomas Weatherall as Darren Yates & Justine Clarke as Leonie Smith.

With the series getting from 707K to 849K viewers per episode, surely we will see this back in a few years.

With limited drama on free to air drama, it has to be acknowledged that SBS and ABC punch way above their weight with local content. Only last week delivering Reckless on SBS and Return to Paradise's second season last week.

Speaking of, I should have some reviews on those two series soon. Seeya!
