Okay so I believe this show is going to hit the comedy circuits in Adleaide, Brisbane and Melbourne (the BIG one)and it may even come to Sydney as you know we have our own Coemdy festival too.
So I saw Tom's last show "Since 1989" late last year and liked it but didn't love it. It was funny but not Judith Lucy standard funny. And same went for this show, I nearly cried and wet my panties during Judith's set last week, however this one was kinda tiresome in parts.
In "Doing Stuff" Tom talked about politics and major issues, however he kinda skipped over things and some of the jokes fell very flat. But that's all good it was a trial show and I think with a bit of work he can capitlise on the gay sex smut he puts in and calling people the C bombs and it could all come together.
Tom Ballard's "Doing Stuff" could do with a bit more stuff being done but overall I think this guy has promise, his radio show is okay and you know he loves to make digs at Aussie Hip Hop so I am giving this one 2.5 Stars.
And this below is a SUMMER sun screen warning people!
Okay so the gay films and the gay events are now totally going to roll in with the upcoming Mardi Gras Festival and the news of Miss Kylie performing at this year's party is just too much for some sisters. LOL
So to the movie and why do gay films always have so many cliches? Why is one character always a complete C#%^ and one is really sweet? Why do gay films always have gays addicted to drugs and partying till all hours? I am not sure why gays create movies that will make gays look unfit for marriage and unfit to parent children and then these same gays will rally for gay marriage and equal rights?
These films that have some tired romantic values in them and then a lot of things that make you think as a gay man why is this the way we always have to be portayed?
Anyway I am reading too much into this film, however it is very average and the characters are not so likable. I will have to be tough on this one and go 2 stars.
Happy Post Australia Day all and I wanted to take this time to say I knew it! Yes Goyte was clearly the biggest album and single this country produced in 2011.
The big one however was Matt Corby coming in so high at number 3, also well done to the Black Keys for coming up at number 2, it just shows release a big tune at the end of the year and you will go far.
My other thoughts on the top ten were Lana Del Ray, where will see be in 2014? Aussie Hip Hop (Solo act or group) will always do well espcally if they collaborate with a shit hot female co star and Boy & Bear had one hell of a good 2011.
Other than that a lot of random stuff was in this year's countdown and here is what I mean by random:
Active Child - Hanging On (the worlds perfect acid trip tune)
Luke Million - Arnold (one of the weirdest tunes that is not quiet a novelty song but not quite an adult tune)
Busby Marou - Biding My Time - just random
Cosmo Jarvis - Gay Pirates - Never heard this song till yesterday and I won't be unhappy if I never hear it again
Beirut - Santa Fe - Meeeeehhhhh
James Blake - The Wilhelm Scream - Man this guys sucks big time, music wankers stop wasting your loads on this tool he blows, literally.
The Like a Version songs making the countdown, just weird and too much Today Tonight style cross promotion, yes they are good covers, yes they are great artists but this is a little boring.
Also the Lunar new year celebrations continue tonight for me at Fairfield for some festival action!
More film reviews and random stuff coming soon....

It's almost here, the day we celebrate this fine great brown land of ours, a country filled with talent both on stage, on screen, on the airwaves and just a damn sexy bunch of human beings (and that's just the cast of the new Channel Nine series Excess Baggage, cause the weight is finally over for the most fucked up show of 2012) and also my sizzling 101 songs of the past decade or so that also happen to be Aussie.
So look back tomorrow AM and I will post my entire list of Aussie tunes that have shaped the past 12 or so years. Who will be number uno?
A big happy Lunar New Year or cung chúc tân xuân, Kung Hei Fat Choy and finally jeulgeoun seongtanjeol bonaesigo saehae bok manhi bateusaeyo in Korean.
Good grief how multicultural which is what this fine country is all about.
So now to five songs I like right now and five new songs to bring in 2012:
1. Wiley - Boom Blast
2. Beyonce - End of Time {Wideboys REMIX}
3. Ladyhawke - Black, White & Blue
4. Skrillex - Bangarang
5. The 2 Bears - Work
Hope you enjoyed and Happy Australia Day and if your driving somewhere tomorrow, don't be a fuckwit drive safely.
See you on the otherside of this weird working week.....
The Descendants is a movie getting a load of good raps for George Clooney ande the team behind it! The movie has already picked up a few awards and the buzz for more awards is getting louder and louder, so this should be a great film right?
Well it is and it isn't, it is very slllllooooooowwwww in parts and as much as you want to like some of the characters at times it's near impossible.
So Clooney is a great dad who has made some mistakes and trying to make up for lost time, his two daughters in the film Amara Miller & Shailene Woodley add a great deal of comedic relief in this sometimes down drama. There are some great lines in this film which really make it a genre bender being a bit comedy a bit drama.
But mainly it's a LONG drama based in the beautiful Hawaii. The scenery and the islands they hop are so lovely and the cast seems to gel so that is always good.
I recommend this movie but like me yesterday you need to be in the mood for a drama and a film that movies at a very slow pace.
The Descendants is a nice drama and rates 3.75 stars, I wanted to give it 4 but I am being critical to it's length and I gave a five star performance yesterday.
This review is going to be short and brief cause this show is flawless and simply wonderful. To say I am a fan of Ms Lucy's is an understatement and too say I think she is incredibly talented is an understatement!
This woman is great, direct and a story teller. I have seen a lot of comedy lately and I never at any point of the show wanted her "Nothing Fancy" show to finish. I was actually heartbroken when it concluded.
I strongly recommend seeing this performance when it rocks the Comedy Store as below:
Just coming out before the end of 2011 was the remake of the Swedish film and book "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Okay I'm going to be honest, the Swedish films were hard to follow and the subtitles did my head in! But I knew underneath it all was a really good story and one day I would truly love this movie.
And surprise that's what I did when I saw the American version directed by the wonderful David Fincher (behind the Social Network) and starring Daniel Craig & Rooney Mara.
So this was what I expect a great complex mystery with lot's of twists and turns and lot's of heavy themes.
It's long but simply enjoyable it's a film lovers film, with a simply awesome cast and a killer soundtrack from the one and only trent Reznor with mate Atticus Ross.
I can't flaw this movie so let's just say it was released in 2011 but it could be one of my favourite movies of 2012.
The Girl with the Dragon Tatto is heavy but damn awesome!
I'm going to give this 4.75 Dragon stars for the Lunar new year.
Finally a Glee episode to write home about, season 3 has been horrid to say the least, the constant breaks, the bad song choices, the storylines ehhhhhhhh
Now it is time for the show to stand up and boy did it this week with the "Yes/No" episode. Just great and this video is the stand out moment, loved it sick:
Thyestes is part of the Sydney Festival so I expected arty farty to the max and well did I get it!
Thyestes is a Greek tragedy played in the modern world with iPhones, Karadashian references and plenty of bad words and strap on penis's. If this does not sound like it's for you, it's probably not.
This is one of the most confronting pieces of theatre I have seen and I thought at times it was just being shocking for being shocking's sake.
The story is easy to follow as a small screen tells you what scene your in and what you are about to see.
Their is so much bad language, nudity, violence and naughty references this is totally not a school holidays friendly production.
Look I liked it at times but towards the end I just felt gross and nasty for sitting through this at times difficult to watch production.
Thyestes has just opened and I was two rows in front of the lovely Barry O Farrell, god knows what he thought of a man sucking another mans strap on.
One for many a discussion Thyestes rates two stars.

2000-2011, coming Australia Day morning, so get ready for the ultimate Australia Day BBQ playlist, it's gonna be well sweet, here is a sample of some of the magic tunes:
Only 10 days till I BLOG the full 101 list, stay tuned party people.
Thanks to all for making it to the Bank today, y'all were awesome for giving up your day at the Church or watching the most boring sport known to man, Cricket.
To everyone who didn't make it and was busy I still love youse and can't wait to see you all again soon, I have a feeling 2012 is gonna be fucking unreal.
I haven't seen a musical in donkeys years and when the opportunity came up to see Annie I just had to jump at the offer. So after sitting through countless sessions of Priscilla the Musical, Miss Saigon and seeing Spamalot, Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, Billy Elliot, High School the Musical etc, it was time to get my musical back on.
And after a long break from the theatre, I ended up really enjoying this besides the vile appearance of that racist and closet case Alan Jones. I don't know what it is about that man but he makes me want to vommit in a projectile manner.
So the songs were fun, the dog was adorable (I hear the first dog was fired for vommiting on stage, I blame Alan Jones, he even offends dogs) and the kids were really sweet and good at their parts.
So Annie is one to catch, the queens behind me keep making weird and wild comments on the side but you gotta expect that at the theatre.
Annie rates a big 3 and a half wig filled stars. Annie plays till early March 2012.

So I had high expectations on this as I had seen it around town and seen the Great Moscow Circus one million and ten times and it was time to see a different show.
I was firstly shocked at the prices, prices starting at $48 but rising as high as $109, it is a bit steep espically if you have a family.
Anyway now to the show, it held it's own for a little while but again with no animals and only 13 in the cast the tricks and fun were a little few and far between.
The cast seemed to be having fun but some more adult jokes and lame jokes made it a little amatuer.
Okay so I am going to be tough cause the Great Moscow Circus is a lot cheaper and has some much more enjoyable stunts and tricks. So I can only give Circus Oz 2 and a half passing stars.
This movie is the most BAT SHIT crazy film I have ever scene! No word of a lie and back to the puissy from the last review what is with Kirsten Dunst getting her hairy cheque book out and why did I have to know it was hairy?
OMG enough!
This film was weird, but wonderful, strange but intruiging and at the end I had no idea what I sat through and why I paid $11 on tight ass Tuesday to view this? But all the critics love it and it's as arthouse as they come.
Melancholia is all kind of fucked up and strange but a rollercoaster ride of a movie all the same, 2 and a half naked stars.
- Actual film released in 2011 Internationally however it came out here in 2012 me thinks.
So another Sherlock Holmes film and another film where I think fuck Jude Law, mate you ain't ageing very well. A bit more face cream and a little less pussy and ciggies would do you a treat.
Okay enough about pussy and onto the movie, so it's good it's entertaining and on of the final action scenes from the forest is just great. The chemistry between Downey Jnr and Law is good and I enjoy the story but it is a little confusing for an action film. Make it simple and easy like Mission Impossible and just go all out to town with the action scenes.
A Game of Shadows is good but not great so maybe one for DVD as there is a lot out at present. Meaning more movie reviews coming your way ASAP!
Anyway Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows rates 3 stars.
OMG so Tom Cruise is still kinda hot (in a weird way):
No this review is gonna be plain and simple, this is the best action film I've seen in ages. It can't be flawed. There is no cheesy dialogue, the action scenes are terrific, the countries and scenes in the movie are magic and very varied, from Russia to Dubai to India, just great.
A movie should be:
1. Entertaining - Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (TICK) 2. You leave your worries at the door - Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (BIG TICK) 3. A bit of Fantasy - Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (TICK) 4. Have heart - Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (TICK)
So look I ain't going to go on and also complain it was like a giant Apple promo video with IPAD's and iPhones everywhere, but hey.
A fifth film in the franchise is looking good and I for one will be in for that.
So check this out before it leaves the big screen!
PS it rates 4.75 stars, too early in 2012 for a five star film!

So last night was a great first for 2012 and live music, it was Aloe Blacc, who I didn't know this but his support act Maya Jupiter is his wife, random hey. And if you are thinking Maya Jupiter WTF????
So anyway useless and random fact out of the way, I was in a little early to catch the amazing support act Electri Empire, these guys were great and did a great cover of "Pumped Up Kicks" (which is currently Number One on iTunes - random it's been out forever and day!) so they were just great and I might even buy there album on the said iTunes:
That was the best Youtube moment I could grab sorry.
Then it was time for the almighty Aloe Blacc, and I'll be honest with you I only knew the main trakc "I Need a Dollar" and the title track of his disc "Good Things" but I just loved this, he was so inspiring and totally amazing. His voice, his stage presence, his charisma, just amazing.
He totally has a great recording voice and a great live voice.
This took me to a higher place and made me feel so happy and ready to start over in 2012 which let's face it is time to start over.
So the concert will be hard to beat even though I left early and missed the encore, LOL, I am too old for Encores anyway :)
Scissor Sisters are back at it again, after big sets at Summadayze and a headline slot at Pyramid Rock over New Year's that had a mixed reception.
After copping some flack from the crowd during their set, front man Jake Shears hopped off stage and tweeted, "Well, happy new year from Australia everybody! Thank god that gig is over. Jesus."
Later tweeting Canadian producer A-Trak, "I just rang in the new year on a stage getting bottled by a bunch of Aussie rednecks."
So my first film for 2012, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, what a way to start the year.
When your head is bumping and your not well rested from the night before, it can only mean seeing a film such as Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.
With great musical numbers, silly little things to giggle at like a 12 year old, this film was o so enjoyable on New Years Day and I felt like a kid again. I don't know what it is about mindless movies but sometimes they are just so refreshing.
The mash up concert part at the end of the movie really sums up the film, fun, camp and a good time to be had by all. Yes it's no masterpiece and award winning film, but still I laughed, smiled and enjoyed myself so an easy three chipmunk stars.
After getting a taxi across the way to Glebe Island (actual address Rozelle LOL), it was time to give another Sydney NYE event a crack, this time Sydney Resolution. After doing a couple of Shore Things and Luna Park's Harbour Party last year it was time to check out something new.
And Sydney Resolution sounded interesting, a strange line up but still intriguing non the less, Jamiroquai definately for me was a major draw card and with his albums in the late 90's early 2000's so wonderful I thought who else better to bring in the new year?
So best thing about this event for the punter (not the promoter) was it was fairly empty and you could move around freely and get food, drink without much of a wait at all.
So by the time we got there it was time to hearing the pouding beats of the Pet Shop Boys. Never been a huge fan but "West End Boy", "West End Girls" & "Go West" all a bit of fun.
After some dinner and the Family Fireworks which were really quiet nice, it was time to prepare for the almighty Jamiroquai. The wait was a little long (40 minutes between fireworks) and then to add to this he was around 15 minutes late and the crowd was started to get bored of the random music videos on screens, yes there were no DJ's or in between entertainers just music videos played at a low volume.
Anyway Jamiroquai finally got on stage and played a hot n cold set. There were moments when I went back into my childhood bedroom singing along and dancing to a catchy disco bit and there were moments were he looked bored and just wanted to get off the stage.
The highlights were definately "Cosmic Girl", "Little L", "You Give Me Something", "White Knuckle Ride" & "Canned Heat". What happened to this dance mega star, he was so grand and just seems to have fallen from the throne.
Overall Sydney Resolution has SO much potenial, great set up with an easy venue to get to and get home, but with a line up that can target one group, not just a mash up like this, from Western Sydney's finest to the gays, to the backpackers. Very random!
Overall a good viewing place for the fireworks too so I give this 4 stars.
