Winter Watchlist Warmers - Run the World - Season Two

Run the World has just concluded its second season. Streaming on Stan in Australia while in the USA, it's on Starz. Which both this Friday will launch into Minx, the rescued second season.

Season two premiered on late May, concluding on Friday evening. It's a random day, time for new episodes to drop. However for this sassy 30 minute drama-comedy, set in Harlem, it kind of works.

Andrea Bordeaux, the highlight for me in season one, sadly chose to leave the series due to the mandate that the cast and crew be vaccinated against COVID-19. Bordeaux disputed those reports and stated that she was fired for refusing to comply with the vaccine mandate.

The role of Ella McFair would not be recast, however she was referenced a few times during the season. This left the group of friends (portrayed by Amber Stevens West, Bresha Webb, and Corbin Reid) to navigate relationships and their respective high powered jobs.

Additional cast members for season 2 included Tika Sumpter, Comedian CP, Isha Blaaker, Cree Summer and Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins. However none really replaced the large hole left by Bordeaux.

I really enjoyed season one, however season two did feel a little flat. Maybe it was just due to missing Bordeaux.

However it could have also done with the entire year the series was MIA from our streaming platforms between season one and two.

With the current Hollywood strike situation, for me sees this series a long-shot for a third season. If a third was to happen, it would be a while off, whilst also most likely being its last. Depending on Minx finding its feet on the new home, I think Starz does Power and hour dramas a little better than their half an hour offerings.
