Cinema Slut #2019 - Joker
We are knee deep in School Holidays, two music festivals happened in NSW yesterday (one continuing today, Yours & Owls, go the Gong!) whilst this week at the cinema it was all about one film, Joker.
The School Holiday line up this time around is missing one thing, a comic book film. This however is not a School Holiday affair.
From Angry Birds to Dora, Ride Like a Girl for a local story or Abominable (which looks average AF) it's a fairly bleak showing.
Joker however is outstanding! Maybe only suitable for year 11 and 12 kids, this film tackles the biggest issues I have seen in a comic book film.
A huge line up of stars, Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro and the stunning Frances Conroy. This film is an actors film, it's a Hollywood love letter with late night TV showcased whilst giving Joaquin Phoenix one of the roles of a lifetime.
Joaquin Phoenix is outstanding as his spiral that leads to a huge finale. Will Joaquin Phoenix agree to do a sequel, will we see more dark DC films? Maybe and yes, I would love to see a more dark and real Catwoman, Mr Freeze would be a stretch but the team behind Joker have put life back into the comic book movie scene.
This film is heavy, this film is shocking, dark and not at all suitable for younger viewers. Not because they will get scared (well they might, it's violent) but because of all the real life issues it covers. It moves lightening quick and his spiral into madness is a painful process to watch.
It's so well done, it flirts with the regular Gotham themes whilst almost making Thomas Wayne out to almost be a Trump like Mayor to be.
I loved this, go see it at the movies, it's a movie lovers movie, 4 Stars.
