Cinema Slut #2019 - The Curse of the Weeping Woman

I was not aware this was part of The Conjuring universe, however it has very Conjuring feels right from the get go.

With a tiny budget of $9M and going up against Avengers, The Curse of the Weeping Woman (AKA in the USA The Curse of La Llorona) has done extremely well even though some critics are not 100% amused.

The Conjuring series has given us The Nun, Annabelle and a third film to come in 2020. Annabelle will also hit film number three next month.

We all love a scary film and with there being no shortage of them right now, this is pretty damn good.

After finding Pet Sematary fairly average, this was a huge success in my books. Unlike it's competition Avengers, The Curse of the Weeping Woman is swift and gets to the point damn fast, it's 93 minutes of pure terror.

Yes a lot of the bump in the night stuff is nothing new but it was a wee bit of fun. A nice distraction from all the superhero goings on. With most cinemas in Australia being clogged with Avengers screenings it's refreshing to take in another genre which is only getting more and more popular.

Tony Amendola crosses over from Annabelle to make an appearance in this film, linking the universe nicely and Linda Cardellini who has appeared in a few Avengers films also makes a terrific lead in this film.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to, 3.5 Stars.
