Recent Calls for the ABC to be privatised - Is this good or bad???

I was reading some online articles from the Australian to FasterLouder about the ABC (and to a degree SBS) to be privatised. Now for some reasons why this would be horrid:

- We would be given another station to air pointless reality TV shows that other than the US trash (My Strange Addiction/Jersey Shore) our reality stars are BOOOOORRRRRRIIIINGGGGG

- More advertising space and more reasons to hop onto the Torrents

- More shows on at 8:30pm on a Sunday one week and then 11:00pm on a Friday night after a re run of  a tragic old film.

- Another Today Tonight/A Current Affairs style program with shocking stories about Australia's most feared topics, Oh No Boat People, Seniors take for a ride (and I'm not talking to Bingo whilst smashing a bucket bong), cross promotions a go go and also their favourite chasing a shame artist.

- More Packed to the Rafters and House Husbands, yes these are apparently dramas? Go figure painting my apartment has more drama than that rubbish.

Now you might think I am a left wing leftie but FasterLouder called for Triple J to be privatised giving us yet another lovely commercial radio station giving more airtime to Eddie McGuire, Kyle Sandilands and god knows who else the Austereo network feels is fit to abuse the world. Without Triple J radio and Local Radio we would have another pop/cock rock music station and more Alan Jones talk back anger than you could poke a stick at.

So please Tony Abbott if the polls are right don't privatise the ABC, it's the only good thing we have left in media in Australia. Australian TV has become so bad we have had the finger pointed at us for such high illegal downloading, so is this saying something? At least in the states HBO, Showtime and FX (plus others) are creating, funding and producing amazing new programs which challenge a viewer.

Rant over....
