The trailer for this movie so tells a different story than what the actual LOVE THE COOPERS film is.



I went in with little to no expectations, but leaving extremely happy. I saw this film ahead of some brilliant local live music so it really set the mood.

I have to say a big ups to the fabulous June Squibb, as Aunt Fishy she was just simply fab. She is in amongst an all star cast John Goodman, Diane Keaton, Olivia Wilde, Amanda Seyfried, Marisa Tomei (currently playing a sassy lesbian on Empire) and more.

Large ensemble casts sometimes work and sometimes they don't, this one however for all it's jumping around from plot to plot point all comes together nicely at the end. Excluding Seyfried which was still a bit random.

That said the whole film is random and Christmas films tend to give me the irrates however this was pleasantly surprising and also at times laugh out old funny.

Love the Coopers fell flat with some of the audience members (young and old) I saw this with, a lady in her 50's next to me was like an 18-25 year old constantly on her phone.

That said me personally this was a good honest look at families and the pressures Christmas puts on the family unit. The expectations that are not meet and the drama in the lead up to the big day. All that lead up for what? Average food and too much of it.

Therefore Love the Coopers in the lead up to one of the most irritating times of the year (next to Easter and Halloween) rates 3.5 Family (not) so Friendly Stars.

What a great little English/French film THE PROGRAM is.



Chris O'Dowd first up never seems to choose shitty films, from Bridesmaids to The Sapphires to this, he is just a real great selector of great roles, well done Chris.

I hate bikes so a cycling film was not my first choice and I knew Lance Armstrong was a drug cheat but this film and the way it detailed the last 15-20 years was brilliant. It really made me wonder leaving the cinema how many other elite athletics cheat this way. Yes we all need heroes as characters in this film insisted to, however do we need fake heroes?

The Program is a well acted, well scripted and well produced slick film which I was throughly interested in for the entire run time. It didn't run too long, it covered everything including the tell all interview with Oprah. Of all people Oprah??

This film will go down (mainly the time of the year I have seen it) as one of my favourites, just great, 4 Stars.

Do you know what... Good on the ARIA Awards and good on you Tina Arena & Matt Okine.

So time will tell how the ratings did for the ARIA awards, however with the absence of any reality shows last night it stands an OK chance. Also pulling in Australian favourite Ed Sheeran it stands an OK chance.

I saw most of the awards and have to give it up, Andrew G was actually a decent host, the majority of performances were great (Jarryd James vocal was a little on the nose) and their were some surprising winners (although after Sia giving away her ARIA's last year she was never really gonna win one this year right?).

I managed OK with my predictions predicting 8 of the 18, 10 wrong is not bad especially when you put into perspective the Sia thing. Sia really is still in her own right killing it in the Aussie music scene, This is Acting (set to be released 28 Jan 2016) is easily going to be one of the biggest Australian records of the forthcoming year, so Sia it's your year again next year, mark my words.

Matt Okine and Tina Arena however stole the thunder last night with Tina's speech naming and shaming local radio and exclusion of female performers when they reach a certain age, Matt on the other hand commented on the exclusion of any females in his category. Interesting Matt's speech was left out of the Channel Ten broadcast, however it's all over the News this AM.

So another year of the ARIA's is done and dusted, will Australian Music be better off sales wise this week? Check out the ARIA site on Saturday night to check in.

The Comedian of 2015 is.....

Readers of this BLOG will know I love comedy, Ronny Chieng, Amy Schumer, Joel Creasey & Judith Lucy so why do I crown the title of Comedian of the Year to a right wing Daily Telegraph columnist who loves a Liberal blue power suit?

Well her column yesterday defending once again the un-defendble (previous case defending Tony Abbott despite his clear incompetence) Reclaim Australia. Now don't get me wrong all these columnists Bolt, Devine and other News Limited employees love to bang on about free speech. Free Speech is one thing but inspiring hateful activity is clearly another. Now you can read the column here before reading on.

Titled who are the real bigots, FIRST laugh, you are darling Devine, you and Andrew Bolt are just vile and bigots is a tame word for you.

The laughs really do continue through the column, I will outline the highlights but really have you submitted this for the Sydney and Melbourne Comedy Festival yet?

Jacqui Lambie again cops it from Devine, and you know you have a point, this woman is interesting, one part of me feels for her and her drug addict son, another part of me thinks she is a female Christopher Pyne. She plays for whoever wins and clings to popular thoughts of the moment.

Once she was done and dusted, later Clive Palmer, hello independence. Now one can say she is outspoken however isn't that exactly what shock jocks like? Your paper would be nothing without statements from members in the public eye like Lambie. Shock Jocks, you also appear on 2GB the home of the Shock Jock - Alan Jones, Ray Hadley & Steve Price, these three men alone (along with Vile Kyle Sandilands) appear weekly or monthly for their latest outrageous statements, so basically is it not ok for a woman to say poorly researched, ill advised statements? Alan Jones received massive condemnation for saying Julia Gillards father died of shame and who could forget his involvement with the Cronulla riots.

Lambie is an interesting woman but don't put her name near Pauline Hanson, a known racist, bigot and media go to for vile remarks. Hanson deserves little to no respect, I protested about her statements and behaviour over 15 years ago, why on Earth is she still around? So Devine she DESERVES every bit of criticism that rains down on her, how dare you try and protect this evil, wicked Australian who has done NOTHING for the good of this country.

However the above said, this is a comedy piece right?

Now onto Reclaim Australia, a grass roots group just wanting to have their opinion heard. I actually fell off my chair:

Concerns about Islamism tried to find a voice on the weekend at rallies around the country held by Reclaim Australia, a grassroots group which says it comprises, “blue collar workers, white collar workers, mothers, fathers, grandfathers, grandmothers … We are not a racist hate group affiliated with any other group, nor Neo-Nazi or white supremacist. In fact it is the opposite. We are simply patriotic and love our country, our nation and the law”.

Blue Collar, darling, honey boo boo child the below looks like:

1. A Centrelink queue gone mad

2. Next years MKR, The Biggest Loser and the Block contenders

3. People I hope NEVER to see on the street

So I have some tips for these above folk in Reclaim Australia, look you are definitely not as glamorous as one Comedian of 2015 Miranda Devine, however the below 5 items will help you be happier and not spending your weekends being yelled out by inner city left wing soy latte drinking hippies. Whoops I just described me, left leaning, soy latte drinking, inner city living, oh well let's meet and do the below things:

1. Exercise, release some endorphins, learn to see your own penis again. The man in red above I'm looking at you, when was the last time you saw your own penis? The 80's? Being healthy and having a healthy lifestyle allows you to be happy, meet new people and get out and enjoy this fine brown land. I have done a bootcamp for three years with people of all walks of life, all faiths, married/single/children/gay or straight even some Daily Telegraph readers.

2. Get off Social Media. Aside from blogging I have NEVER had a Facebook profile, twitter account or Instagram, I loathe Snapchat and continue not to understand under 25 year olds and their need for constant access to these social media sites. People waste hours a day looking at others and measuring themselves against their peers and celebrities. You run your own race, remember that, you don't need to compare to anyone else.

3. Be nice to others. So you live here, your white, your old (or young) and you have it good. We live in a mostly safe country (no bombs going off every five minutes), we have clean drinking water, magnificent beaches and outdoor sites. So what's the problem, are you healthy? Are you safe? Do you have a roof over your head and enough food for the next week? Well come to me when you are fighting a life threatening illness, you lose a family member, you want a child and can't have one. I'm bored of people with no major problems causing problems like these rallies.

4. Put your Sunday's to a good purpose. I for all purposes of this piece have no religious ties. I am not Christian, Muslim etc I sometimes go to a Buddhist Temple but that's it. If someone is Muslim so what? If someone is Christian big whoop as long as you don't door knock and throw this in other people faces you are a good person in my eyes. Leave religion out of it. Like politics no one cares, Tony Abbott was a woeful Prime Minister, let's flick our hair and move on, like he should do.

5. With your Sunday's STOP attending these rallies (both sides Reclaim and Anti Reclaim) it just gives the media more crap to show on their nightly bulletins. I hate the idea of Reclaim Australia, I hate the idea of UPF (United Patron Front) however I stay home and just dance. So dance, sing be merry - Shake Off this bullshit Taylor Swift style. It's unacceptable people are being brainwashed in this manner. It's the same as IS brainwashing these young teens.

So the above people in these photos you should be ashamed of yourselves, the world needs diversity, imagine how boring it would be if we were all like Miranda, the 2GB radio hosts and the folks attending these rallies. The real superstars in the world don't have time to attend these woeful rallies, so next time one of these events is on:

1. Read a book
2. See a film
3. Watch Jessica Jones on Netflix
4. Have a run or walk
5. Meet a friend for tea or coffee
6. Be around your family and loved ones
7. Clean your house
8. Get a massage
9. Ride a mountain bike or dirt bike
10. Go to the beach
11. See your favourite band or turn the radio up loud to your favourite band

If one of those 11 things can't keep you away from a rally, I have lost you already.

But back to Devine, your piece yesterday (and I hope it was a joke) really showed you are either:

a. Insane
b. A bloody good comedian and the Chaser boys should add you to their next project.

First up Michael B Jordan is hot as fuck in CREED, the latest in the Rocky film series.

Yes Sylvester Stallone is back as Rocky Balboa, now before I move on I have to be honest I have NEVER seen a Rocky movie before, please don't hate me.

Now I think this makes me perfect to see this film ahead of it's release tomorrow. Firstly the first two Rocky films were released ahead of my birth, the third was released in 1982, the year of my birth and then I was just too young to witness the violence of boxing.

So let's check out the dreamy Michael B Jordan in this clip:



Creed is the usual boxing, redemption, big fight scene, a hot hook up and then some drama somewhere in between, however unlike Southpaw this was a much more enjoyable film.

Jake Gyllenhaal was great (and hot) however the film was totally missing something and after Million Dollar Baby, previous Rocky films and a long line of others was there really any need for a new angle and new boxing star? Or is there even a new angle to look at this sport? And I say sport loosely.

The sport and fitness in both these films this year is impressive, there are no Biggest Losers contenders here, just pure contenders.

So back to the film and not about boxing and film in general. Tessa Thompson was great as the love interest who was clearly modelled on FKA Twigs and her jams, Michael B Jordan is exceptional to look at and is a good hero however again like Southpaw did we need another look into Rocky's post fighting in the ring life?

Sport films can be good, but sometimes when a sport has been overdone it can feel like you are watching the same movie you watched a few years back. I did enjoy the film and honestly next to Southpaw it was amazing, therefore I give this a rock hard solid 3 Stars. Jordan's six pack alone gets one star - amazing.

ARIA's this week, Music, Music and More Music

The ARIA's are on Channel 10 this Thursday with the Red Carpet kicking off at 7:30pm and the actual awards at 8pm. Channel 10 no competition from the other two commercial networks as it seems they both slid into Summer Programming early, so here is hoping that the ARIA's draw a decent ratings number.

The good thing about the ARIA's are, Australian music sales usually rise, and already Triple J has given their Australian Music Awards and been given a lot of flack over choosing Courtney Barnett. What do I say to these people - FUCK OFF. Courtney Barnett is doing amazing business overseas and is a great representation of this nations fine and very diverse musical talents.

Triple J always copes shit for their J Awards, there decisions and the Hottest 100, however if the J Award went to Tame Impala for the third time would that be fair?

So come on Australia leave JJJ alone, can we say anything positive about the musical decisions made by the folk in programming at 2DAY FM (aka Hit 104.1), Kiis FM, Smooth or I don't know why I even mention Triple M? These stations are just woeful, their presenters, the poorly produced ad's, the corny segments, the even worse stunts and who could forget those pranks that can go terribly wrong.

But back to music, and my other BLOG Flashing off the Record is all about Music and with around a month to the Album of the Year is announced it's important for us the analyse the 5 albums a little closer and this week we start with the brilliant Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick will be in the country early next year for Bluesfest and a side show or two. I am extremely excited to welcome this amazing talent to our fine brown land.

While we are talking music (and mostly local) let's take in some key new releases from some of this lands most brilliant artists.
